Firefox 19 install size significantly smaller?
Targets (1): firefox-19.0-1
Total Installed Size: 32.52 MiB
Net Upgrade Size: -14.89 MiB
I was really surprised to see the install size change that much? Has anyone heard what Firefox did to achieve this? I would have thought the size would have increased with the addition of a native PDF reader.
Hmm... Puzzling. Looking at the git commits it was just a version bump, no changes in build process. Let's see if the package file is larger:
sid ~ > du -h /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-*
16M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-16.0.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
16M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-16.0.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
18M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-17.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
18M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-17.0.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
19M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-18.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
19M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-18.0-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
19M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-18.0.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
19M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-18.0.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
19M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-19.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
Nope. OK, but that's compressed, what's the installed size of those packages?
sid ~ > pacman -Qi -p /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-* | awk '/^Version/ {printf "%s - ", $3} /^Installed Size/ {print $4 $5} '
16.0.1-1 - 41796.00KiB
16.0.2-1 - 41800.00KiB

17.0.1-1 - 45152.00KiB
18.0-1 - 48544.00KiB
18.0-2 - 48540.00KiB
18.0.1-1 - 48532.00KiB
18.0.2-1 - 48540.00KiB
19.0-1 - 33296.00KiB
OK. Something did change massively. Let's see which file changed sizes:
(with 19 installed)
~ > pacman -Qlq firefox | grep -vE '/$' | sort | xargs du -h > /tmp/19
(with 18.0.2 installed)
~ > pacman -Qlq firefox | grep -vE '/$' | sort | xargs du -h > /tmp/18
sid tmp > diff 18 19

< 48K /usr/lib/firefox/blocklist.xml
> 52K /usr/lib/firefox/blocklist.xml

< 108K /usr/lib/firefox/mozilla-xremote-client
< 8.1M /usr/lib/firefox/omni.ja
> 112K /usr/lib/firefox/mozilla-xremote-client

Only about a 200k diff there. I can't see what's causing this.
I'm still lost

How do you change the size of display in Firefox, I get Hotmail too small and Flikr too big
I get the font size too small on Hotmail when viewing through Firefox. The screen size and font size is too big when viewing Flickr through Firefox. I am sure it is a simple question of adjusting zoom and I have seen it change while I am online. I just can't work out what I did to change it.
Use NoSquint: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/

# Question
In IE if I set the zoom at lets say 150% it will stay that way even if I shut down. But with firefox, it goes back to small print every time I view a new page. Is there a way to set the zoom to stay at a larger size? Thanks, EHIf you need to adjust the font size on websites then look at:
* Default FullZoom Level - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/6965
* NoSquint - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/2592

In control panel/display, I had my display set at 150% and at 1680 X 1050 resolution. This filled my 22 inch screen with the page content. Now that I have installed Firefox, the font is too small and the content is centered in the screen leaving about3" per side of blank space. I want to fill the screen and make everything larger. Haven't found a way to do that. Firefox tells me in my control panel/display window that by setting my display at 150%, "some items may not fit in your screen if you choose this setting while your display is set to this resolution. It worked fine with Explorer.
The Firefox Page Zoom feature does a domain by domain level of saving the users preferred zoom level settings, there is no default Page Zoom level setting in Firefox.
Try the Default FullZoom Level extension: <br />

Or the NoSquint extension: <br />

Firefox browser appears as a small square on the screen. If I click on it, it disappears.
Try to restore the window via the right-click context menu menu of the icon on the Taskbar.<br />
Once you have done that then open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window to make it larger. If that works then close Firefox to save the new window size.

How do I import images from my hard drive without losing resolution? My original files after import are significantly smaller. What should I do?
Hi Keith, and all others chiming in, I do have the correct option checked in advanced settings telling iPhoto to copy the images into the library. What is a refernced library? Perhaps this is where I am getting confused. I exported my entire photo library from an old iMac5 to my external hard drive, from there I attempted to import the entire library to my new iMac. Am I overlooking an obvious and easy way to import from the hard drive to the new iMac--I dragged the entire photo pholder from the hard drive to the open window of iPhoto on the new computer. Now, I only get preview file sizes in iPhoto, unless I have my external drive open. Perhaps I need to import the original images from the hard drive in a different way...?! (This is making me feel pretty stupid.)

Adobe Reader XI Menu Text significantly smaller.
I just installed the lasted update for my Adobe Reader and now suddenly the text for the "File,Edit,View.." drop down menus is significantly smaller as well as the toolbar icons and all of the drop drown menu options. What gives? Is there a way I can fix this? If not how would I go about undoing the update? I don't like the small text at all. It went from something like 12 pt to 8 pt. That is really dramatic. I checked my display settings in the control panel and they are fine.
Help is greatly appreciated. I have Windows 7 32 bit if that helps too. That happened when you updated 11.0.6 to 11.0.7? Strange; I updated a number of computers, none had any such issues.
Could it be a problem of missing or corrupted system fonts?
If I were to experience that problem I would try two things:
run the System File Checker
sfc /scannow
revert to 11.0.6 to see if the problem goes away -
Hi,
I been using an oracle form in my work, in my computer office I have linux Installed (Ubuntu 10.04.4) and the oracle form opens just fine. now I seen myself on the need of connecting from my home to the office sometimes, the problem I have is that in home computer the oracle form when in open the size too small and I cant work like that, is there something I can avoid using a remote desktop, since this is the only way I have been able to work from my home. What software do you need to run on the remote system? If the remote software does not provide any kind of remote access and remote desktop sharing does not fit your needs, perhaps SSH with X Forwarding can. SSH is often accepted through Firewalls and can be a solution if you need to run some X11 client residing on a remote system. If you need more help, please provide more details about your problem.

Newbie Musing About Installed Size
I recently installed two distros on my PC. Arch Gimmick and Debian Etch. I installed both distros the same way. First I installed the "base" system. Then I installed the minimum amount of additional software required for my needs/wants: X window, KDE, Mozilla-Firefox, packages necessary to use my HP 3210 printer, Kaffeine and multimedia packages necessary to play .mpg and .wmv video files with sound, samba and packages necessary to browse shared folders on a WinXP PC on my local network.
The Arch base system was 575.0 MB while the Etch base system was 460.6 MB. The Arch total installed size is 1647 MB while the Etch installed size is 1200 MB. I am surprised that Arch is 247 MB larger than Etch.
Arch boots from the Grub menu to a full KDE desktop in 40 seconds while Etch takes 43 seconds.
Any comments from more experienced Arch users?
Good luck, jimboI did a quick and dirty speed test between Arch and Etch. I measured load time for Firefox, emelfm, Kaffeine, Konsole and Konqueror.
Firefox Emelfm Kaffeine Konsole Konqueror
Arch <3 <1 <2 <1 1
Etch <2 <1 <3 1 1
Not really a very presise test, I just started each application several times while watching a clock. But I think it does represent the relative "feel" of the two distros.
Sorry for the poor column line up, I don't know how to make it any better.
Good luck, jimbo -
When I downloaded the latest version of Firefox, the print was so small I could barely read it. what do I need to do to enlarge the print without losing some of my tool bars...?
== When I downloaded the latest version of Firefox, the print was so small I could bvarely read it. what do I need to do to enlarge the print without losing some of my tool bars...?THIS ISSUE IS RESOLVED FOR ME.
When I opened this pop-up to view the settings (File > Page Setup > "Format & Options": Scale ), the Scale value was 40%. Changing it to 100% corrected the issue I observed.
To my knowledge, I have not been inside this pop-up window before to set the Scale option. Could this value be affected by other actions within Firefox? I noticed this while using v12 which was installed 24Apr2012.I know it worked correctly since that installation, so why did the Scale value change?
UPDATE: I just realized that the Scale option in print preview sets the Scale value in the settings. NOTE TO ALL: This is a sticky setting, not just a setting for a specific output request. -
I am trying to make a Photo Book using IPhoto for my granddaughter's wedding. I am using 6 pictures per page, as I have many pictures to add to book.
The picture size is small. But when I zoom is all the way down to the end to make smaller. Doesn't go far enough. When I try to put a picture in the square spot, it cuts off part of the picture. Has anyone else had this problem, and could help me out. I really would like to put on each page even more pictures, but that is not an option with IPhoto. I have used other sites to make books. This is my first try with IPhoto. I may have to revert to the old familiar ones. Wanted to give this one a try. My granddaughter leaves for Germany on the 21st to join her marine husband. I am quickly running out of time. (The wedding was this past Saturday)Place it the book, right click on it and fit to frame

I am using Firefox 3.6.8. Oddly, my problem appeared a few hours PRIOR to Firefox automatically installing the latest updates (the week ending 7/23), not afterwards. The problem is this: the browser continues to display tabs, the reload/home/history/favorites icons, URL field and Google search field while in full-screen mode, so it's not really full-screen anymore. How can I correct this?

Why does FireFox open as a very small box in the top l/h corner and i have to resize it every time this only occurs on the initial opening up of F/Fx after boot-up
Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.<br />
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

Today I think firefox automatically installed a new version and after that it said my adobe flash was old so I had to update that. Now I can't open links in a new window.
Firefox doesn't install new versions of plugins, but Flash may update itself automatically.<br />
You are still one version behind on Flash, current is Flash 10.1 r85<br />
If the Flash player didn't update properly then you need to download the full version and run the installer as Administrator (right-click: Run as ...)
