Firefox 19 Questions

I have the Norton 360 antivirus and it has the Norton toolbar on my browser and they put a new update out for 19 a couple days ago. I been having issues having the Toolbar show up for me on 17 and I'm gonna upgrade soon to fix that. (I even asked on the Norton Community forums and they confirmed it was a issue with 18 and with my thread I had confirmed it for 17) I just have a question about 19 before I do.
My Flash player is still at 10.3 because I read about it crashing a lot with the later versions. Does this version fix that issue or is it still there? I know you can downgrade and all that if you upgrade but I was wondering if it fixed itself before I do decide to upgrade adobe. I use YouTube a lot throughout the day and wondered if it ever was fixed or not.

Hello demonicvampiregirl, for the flash issue, as Tylerdowner said above, ''The Flash issues are issues that need to be fixed by Adobe. In Flash 11.6 (the most recent version) they have fixed the majority of the issue they introduced in 11.3. ''
''In Flash Player 11.3, a protected mode was added as a new security enhancement for Firefox 4.0 and greater on Windows Vista and higher. '' as you can see : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071?tstart=0
basically the flash issues, from 11.3 and later, is for windows vista and later (win 7 & 8), personally using always the latest flash(in my xp) with no problem at all (not that that's saying something) but the problems is at 99% with windows vista or 7.
i think if you upgrade to latest flash you don't have any problem
thank you

  • Rebuilding firefox question....

Ok for some reason an online app I use for school will not run with Archs firefox package since it registers as Bon Echo or what ever it is. So I need to rebuild it and my question is what do I need to change so that the it will be names Firefox and not Bon Echo when you do Help--> About?

Rebuilding is easy. There is a thread about it already around somewhere. I saw it a few days ago.
The quick of it is that you need to edit the mozconfig file to include 'ac_add_options --enable-official-branding' without quotes. Rebuilding with makepkg will result in a properly named firefox. You've got to change one more step to get the proper icons and logos but I cannot recall that from memory.

  • How can I get back (Microsoft Office 2013), I recently deleted b/c Firefox questioned it?

I managed to get back my Microsoft Office 2013 in this pc by activating required program. After a restart, I was prompted by Firefox screen to resume previous settings or continue with the new one. I accidentally checked the wrong box and got me back to continue using my old program (2003 version).

Sounds that Firefox had crashed or otherwise wasn't closed correctly the previous time.
Any choice made there should not have effect on other programs.<br />
If you didn't restore the windows from the previous session, but started a new session then the tabs from the previous session are most likely lost if you have started Firefox more than once and a new sessionstore.bak file has been created.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/restore-previous-session
If you didn't succeed to finish the registration of a new program then you could try to repeat that action in the MS Office program.
Best would be to make sure that Firefox is already running and if possible then copy the link and paste it in the Firefox location bar manually to prevent this issue from happening again.

  • Firefox question: How do I get back my old menus?!

I'm using the Edge GTK theme, and I decided today to install a Firefox theme to complement it - Aaron Spuler's Smoke theme. I added lines to userChrome.css to get the native GTK look for the tabs and the location and search bars... But my menus still look like plain, themeless menus instead of Edge menus! What do I add to userChrome.css to get my old menus back?

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Current Firefox versions use the default search engine (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename) to set the search engine that is used on the about:home page.
Check the <b>browser.search.defaultenginename</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and make sure that it is set to the default value Google.

  • I unsubsribed from Get Glue and now every time I open Firefox, Get Glue opens on the page and I cannot get rid of it. I like Firefox and would like to use it, but the problem with Get Glue coming up each time I open Firefox causes me not to use Firefox.

Don't know what to add. How do I get rid of Get Glue and have Firefox open by itself?

This sounds more like a Windows question, than a Firefox question. When you say that an image shows up every time you open your computer, do you mean every time you turn on your computer, or every time you start Firefox?

Spell Check in your version 11.1 is just as impeding in my three systems as was 4.1.
(Note the string below.) I have returned to 3.6.28, and will refuse to upgrade your
program in the future until Mozilla can demonstrate that the newer versions will not
impede when the user attempts to spell check in email.

    Hi mjattie,
We just wanted to let you know that KingGhidorah
has found a solution to a Firefox question that you're following.
    The question:
Spell checker not working since FF 4 was marked as solved by its asker, djf42.
You can view the solution using the link below.
Did this answer also help you? Did you find another post more
    helpful?

djf42: Sorry my suggestion hasn't worked for you. Not being a computer wizz can't help
    you further.
Perhaps the back room boys at FF can step in and help, I'm sure that they wouldn't want
you to go backwards in the versions.
mjattie: I was perfectly happy with 3.6.17 (all of the 3s by the way.) How do I get in
touch with the back room boys at FF?

Hi, djf42. I have found the 3.6.17 installer, have reinstalled it, and I am now
    perfectly happy.
One of these days, Mozilla will come out with 4.02 with this problem fixed (hopefully).
    I will
then give it a try. Thanks for your help.</nowiki></pre>

This problem occurs on the Juno webmail site?
I assume you are doing something different than just correcting the squiggly red underlined words. How are you spell-checking the email: using an add-on or using a feature of the Juno webmail site? If it's an add-on, which one is it?

  • 4 questions I have not found the answer to yet...

    1. What is Iphoto doing internally to create more vivid photos that I'm unable to reproduce in other photo management applications? When I import a photo from my camera to Iphoto it looks vivid and great. I then export that image from Iphoto to my desktop and view it in a different application and it looks washed out. What exactly is Iphoto doing to create the vividness in the photos that is not being carried over when viewing the picture in other programs and how do I insure what I'm looking at in Iphoto is what my family will be looking at when they view photos I post to our website?
    2. What specifically is being read from the jpgs in Iphoto and in preview that is not being read in other applications?
    3. Why does a photo, I export directly from Iphoto and ftp to our website, look more vivid in safari compared to viewing it in Firefox or IE? What is safari reading in the image that Firefox and IE are not?
    4. Also, when I take a vivid photo in Iphoto and export it to a photo page using iweb, the photo carries its vividness when viewing it via say firefox. However, if I take the same photo and export it using Iphotos built in web page option (under export), the photo looks noticeably washed out when viewing in say firefox. What is the difference between the two ways it was exported that allowed the photo to be more vivid in the gallery created with iweb and not with the gallery created with Iphoto's built in webpage export option?
    http://www.thehickoks.com/1/3.jpg
link above is to photo exported directly from Iphoto. Looks vivid in safari and washed out in firefox.
    http://www.thehickoks.com/2/Site/untitled%20albumfiles/DSC8484.jpg
Link above is to photo exported from Iphoto into a Iweb photo page. The photo looks vivid in both safari and firefox.

I suspect that it's the same answer to all the
questions. What ColorProfile is attached to the file,
and are all the non-Apple apps reading it?
That's just it... I don't know which color profile is attached and I don't know why Iphoto outputs different profiles for different export types.
This goes back to the photo looking vivid in firefox with a gallery created via Iweb, but looking washed out if was exported to the desktop. I don't quite grasp how drag and dropping the file out of iphoto will not have the same information as using Iweb to create a photo page. It makes no sense to me...
instance, iphoto is reading an attached sRGB profile
it will give excellent results. If the third party
app is not reading the profile, or is viewing it
through a different profile, the results will not be
    as successful.
We can set firefox aside because it is able to view the vivid version in some manner... as far as the other apps (acdsee, PS E, IE in XP, and FF in XP) I will check to see if they can see the vivid version created via Iweb, or if they see the vivid as washed out.
It's noticeable that in all your questions that the
Apple apps: iPhoto, Preview and Safari produce
excellent results, and third party apps don't. Try
and find a way to make the third party app read the
Color Profile and the problem should disappear.
I did make a 3rd party app see the vivid form of the file... that being when I used firefox to view the photo page created in Iweb... What doesn't make sense is that should be the same file as the image that was exported to the desktop, however the desktop image does not come up in vivid color.
In fact it should be the exact opposite since iweb resizes the original photo for the web, while the file dragged to the desktop (or exported there) should be the exact bit for bit that was taken off the camera.
On the Safari v Firefox question, they use different
rendering engines, and while it's tempting to say
that Safari's is better, it might also be that Safari
is better 'tuned' to the Apple Monitors and Screens.
This would be the case if I had not been able to see the image in vivid color via firefox... but I was able to, so it debunks this idea...
    Any other thoughts?????

I tried to update to mavericks, but am unable to open the files to install. From what I have read this is probably a good thing; however now firefox keeps on downloading the files and I can't seem to make it stop. Each time I open firefox the whole process starts again..

You should actually update to mavericks, it's a good solid update and plus, your version of Mac isn't getting security updates anymore, meaning it's vulnerable to attack (despite public opinion Mac isn't invulnerable).
This isn't really a Firefox question anyway..... You install Mavericks via the App store, not through Firefox. http://www.macworld.com/article/2056564/how-to-install-mavericks-over-leopard.html
