  • HOURGLASS ICON AND RUNNING SLOW

I have all of a sudden have a hourglass icon that keeps popping up and my phone is running very slow.  Like a little behind on time relay.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Anytime random strange behaviors or sluggishness creep in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

  • Firefox will not run - double click on icon, select icon and run/open, opening via start menu are all dead

Problem started yesterday (9/28). While in Firefox, bookmarks stopped working. Closed out FF and tried to reopen the program, and nothing causes FF to launch. Tried double clicking on the desktop icon, single click on the bottom status bar (on XP), right click on icon to open or run, trying via Start -> All Programs -> Mozilla and neither regular or safe mode would launch. Only thing that seems to fix the problem is a full restart of the computer. Tried downloading the newest version via Chrome. When I clicked to run the install, kept getting a message to close all FF windows, even though there were no FF windows open.

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".<br />
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
    * Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
    * "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox hangs, shows Not Responding, on start up and at random times

Firefox is hanging on start up and at random times during use. When I click the desktop icon it takes about 20-30 seconds and then opens the usual Firefox start page. However as soon as I move the mouse or try and use anything on the screen it hangs. The Firefox logo top left in the blue bar turns into a white box. After about 2 minutes it reverts to the Firefox logo and all starts working normally.
However every now and then the same thing happens, white box, and the Not Responding words in the top blue bar. Sometimes the whole webpage goes blank white, with only the very top blue bar and side scroll bars showing.
It reverts to normal after a minute or so.
This has happened with the last few versions so it is not due to the last update.
I've tried most things (plugins, stop hardware acceleration, etc) except the one below - maybe someone has an answer to why I can't do the one below?
I've read that you can try and correct by right clicking the decktop icon, choosing Properties, and then Select Compatibility and my Windows Program which is Windows XP SP3. However when I try this the latest Windows showing is 2000. - Maybe this is my problem - how do I get the comnpatibility to Windows XP S3?
    Thanks
    Gaz

  • After install firefox won't boot up i hit icon and nothing firfox 4.0

i had firefox 3.62 went and upgraded to 4.0 after install when i click on icon it does nothing will not bring up

Windows 7 DVD has a decent memtest and you are in Safe Mode probably due to Windows didn't shutdown gracefully.
You can also use chkdsk or WD Lifeguard to certify all the disk sectors are mapped out if they need be.
8800GT: you have heard of the 10 minutes in over for 350*?
But you might want a new card anyway.
Vendors and RAM. Well it was working but buying RAM esp FBDIMMs and my guess is you have some 4GB DIMMs. Also mixing sets or brands can work most of the time, but not always.
RAM probllems result in dirty files and other errrors so fix the problem, make sure you have a good pair and no errors. Or more. And then try clean install.
Windows 7 w/ AppleHFS.sys and AppleMNT.sys does not like an Apple array to be present. MacDrive gets around that and allows mounting - and avoiding BSODs.
Cheap as I have found, highest quality though, 667MHz so they run 4% slower is all, if you need one good set:
    2x2GB FBDIMM DDR2 667MHz
    http://www.amazon.com/BUFFERED-PC2-5300-FB-DIMM-APPLE-Memory/dp/B002ORUUAC/
Lion Recovery Disk Repair? you did or didn't?
Lion installer: hopefully you kept the ESD package for later re-install (without having to download and all that bother).
Some people play musical chairs with the Risers and DIMMs and DIMM slots. Or just RMA and get new sets but I would try with just half the 24GB or less, then test with half the 16GB set. To have one set it would be one DIMM in A1 and B1.
And of course reset the SMC - hitting power button 10 seconds while unplugged (and no devices or cables connected).

  • Why do i keep getting a 2nd shortcut on my desktop for Mozilla-Firefox. I keep deleting the 2nd icon and it keeps coming back.

I started getting a 2nd shortcut icon on my desktop for Mozilla Firefox. Every time I delete this 2nd icon, it comes back and I don't know why.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.

  • I'm running windows 7, downloaded firefox 3.6, when I click to open and run the exe file, it says the file is corrupt. Any thoughts? I have the latest Adobe Flash Player installed

Says file is corrupt every time I try to install Firefox 3.6

    Hi Raphe,
There are a couple of things I know that can cause this. One of which I have experienced myself.
Sometimes, your router may be faulty. This will usually effect all downloads unless they are very small files. I have experienced this myself, and found the only way to fix the problem is to replace it.
Another problem that could cause this is a virus. You should scan your computer for viruses using a trusted antivirus. The virus is sometimes scareware which claims you have a virus, but actually, the only virus is the scareware antivirus!
    I hope this helps,
    -Taddle

  • Firefox 10.0 now creates a new icon on Windows 7 Taskbar whn launched. Why?

With prior versions of Firefox on Win 7 I had 1 Taskbar icon and I would go back to that icon to go to the program. Now when launching Firefox, it spawns a separate icon on the Taskbar and it is confusing, because I am used to going back to the original icon, except now it opens up a new Firefox session that I don't want. How do I go back to 1 icon?

This also fixed it for me! Thank you so much for the help. I had the right click options set up just the way i like with the web sites and stuff on it. And when it spawned a separate icon i was so annoyed, i was so used to it all being in the one icon. Thanks again.

  • Old Firefox's icon and item Name (not blue one) in Application has disappeared suddenly from the screen. How can I retrieve this?

When I clicked "Finder" and "Application", Firefox (old one, not new blue one) icon and Name used to show up in the screen, but no longer. How could I bring them back? There are no difficulty
in running computer, but I cannot update Firefox. Please advise.
    Thank you.

Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

  • Cannot pin sites to taskbar icon in Windows 7

This is a separate issue from pinning sites directly to the taskbar, which has yet to be implemented.
This may be the same as
    * [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/773250 questions/773250] which got 40 people saying they have that issue, but only 1 reply that had nothing to do with the problem at hand, and
    * [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=621941 Bug 621941] that was filed 2 years ago as a follow-up of the above thread, but went nowhere.
    Can you please tell me
    # Can you reproduce the issue? Try to drag the following onto the Firefox taskbar icon: address bar site icon, .URL shortcut from the desktop, bookmark entry from the Bookmarks button menu. I get a crossed-out circle cursor indicating the action cannot be performed.
    # Is this the same issue as the aforementioned bug report? If not, has this been reported as some other bug? Things can get a little confusing between pinning to the taskbar, pinning to the taskbar icon, and so on. I've already messed up by commenting on the wrong report once today, and I'd rather avoid doing that again.
If “Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar” isn't enabled in the taskbar properties, then there are no frequent items listed in the Firefox jumplist, so that leaves no way to pin a site there.

Now it seems to have sorted itself out. The only things I've done is update nightly, set it as the default browser, and toggle the “Store and display recently opened items...” taskbar option on then back off.
I don't know what fixed it, but if I had to guess, I'd say it was setting as the default browser. Ever since bug 621873, it's been tied to pinning to the taskbar, and there's no shortage of bugs about that.
I'd prefer to just leave this thread open in case others want to comment. It doesn't seem right to mark this post as a solution, since I had the issue across many Firefox versions and I have no idea what fixed it in the end.
    ''djst wrote:''
You can try this by dragging the little globe icon next to the address bar in Firefox and drop it on the Firefox logo in the taskbar
When doing that, I (and apparently two others) were getting a crossed-out circle cursor, indicating the action cannot be performed.
    ''djst wrote:''
I don't think it's possible to drop a bookmark directly on the taskbar as its own shortcut -- the only way is to add it to that context menu for Firefox. Note that this is a Windows 7 limitation, not a Firefox limitation.
No, it is indeed a Firefox limitation, but it's unrelated to this thread. Read [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=605222 the bug report you linked to] for the plan to implement it and [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/products/ie-9/features/pinned-sites Pinned sites] for a description of the feature.
