Firefox 2.0.0.14 Stalling

Hi,
Since last week Firefox has been stalling intermittently on my macbook pro. The only thing I have installed lately is those last security updates from Apple.
Is there a way I can clean out Firefox settings without uninstalling and reinstalling?
Thanks for any help.

Firefox > Tools menu > Clear Private Data. Also, delete the file ~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist.

Firefox is constantly comes to stall and there is nothing in my crash report, how can I fix it?
It stops working for about 2 to 3 min., then either I close the browser or it shuts-down by itself.

    Hi,
Please check if this happens in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode]

Please note that if you are using the customized Firefox version that came with the Linux distro, the Firefox updates may only happen via the distribution's channel and also, crash reporting may be disabled. If the problem is more general it may also be helpful to post in the particular distro support forum.

  • Firefox 3.6.3 update stalled on my mac OS X, won't resume. How can I get it to finish?

When I select "Resume Downloading Firefox 3.6.3" from the Firefox "Help" drop down menu, the Software Update box appears mid-screen with these messages:
    Downloading Update
    "Paused downloading Firefox 3.6.3
----- an empty progress bar ---- (and then)
    "Connecting to the update server...
But there is no motion anywhere in that box and nothing I have done gets it to move. When I click on the "Details" option, I am immediately redirected to Mozilla's Firefox 3.6 Release Notes page.
So. No updates, reduced functionality, and no apparent way out.

As of Firefox '''4.0''' the minimum was OSX 10.'''5''' until [http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/16.0.2/mac/ 16.0.2]. Then as of Firefox '''17.0''' the minimum has been OSX 10.'''6'''+ since. This is for Intel as PPC support was dropped as of Firefox 4.0
Since you have Intel and if you upgrade to at least OSX 10.'''6''' you can then use the current Firefox Releases including Firefox 32.

  • Firefox 14.0.1 stalls resources for a few mins upon OSX10.6.8.boot up

This has been happening for awhile and I have been living with it but it has become increasingly annoying. Everytime I turn on my Mac Pro (Intel) running OSX 10.6.8 or restart, then open Firefox to browse, my computer stalls and I am unable to use it for a few minutes. This only happens when I turn on or restart the computer. Any thoughts on what may be causing this and any ideas on the solution?

I tried deleting Firefox's cache from user/library/caches/firefox/profiles/XXXXXXXX.Default User/Cache. I also deleted mozilla-media-cache and startupCache with no luck. I then tried reinstalling after deleting Firefox under the application folder and deleting org.mozilla.firefox.plist in the user/library/preferences folder per instructions - no luck there as well.
The problem persists for example after opening Firefox for the first time hours after turning on the computer...

  • Since the latest update of Firefox was installed on my Windows Vista Home Premium system it appears to be crashing and sometimes plays up by not opening requested sites in new windows, tabs etc. Should I uninstall and reload Firefox??

Also when closing tabs and windows the screen appears to momentarily go a blue color. This same blue color can also be seen when Firefox appears to crash or stall. If you try to open a new tab or a new window there appears to be some hesitation before the new window opens and sometimes the new window or tab simply refuses to open-you then have to shut down Firefox and restart to improve this.

Thanks Alan I tried disabling several items so far and the situation has improved but still not as stable as I would like. Systematic approach is the key here so I'll continue with a process of elimination.

  • Entire OS has slowed down and likes to stall

What factors can I look in to to cause the entire operating system to slow down dramatically? I can't recall if there was any single instance that started this behavior but it's been several weeks now.
    Some examples;
On a fresh reboot, it takes a couple minutes (120-150 seconds) for the menu bar and dock to load up completely.
When I start Safari, it takes at least 20 seconds to just to allow me to either type in the url bar or to select a bookmark from my book mark bar. Once a website is entered, it can take up to a minute to actually load the web site. Many times this behavior with Safari is not secluded to a fresh reboot or restart of Safari. I've been using the browser for a couple hours now and it took more than 15 seconds to load ANY images on apple.com/support, meaning it was just a white page. Firefox is faster but still stalls at times.
Spotlight is slower than normal. Typing a-d-d to open Address book just wasn't all that snappy. Once Address Book opened, it took more time than usual just to load contacts. It shouldn't take ANY time as I recall. Typing p-h-o-t-o-s-h-o-p used to be very fast and responsive and the first suggestion was in fact photoshop. Now Spotlight occasionally hangs as I'm in the processes of typing and can't "think" past p-h-o-t-o so it thinks I want PhotoBooth.
Mail has also been acting slow. Just issuing CMD+N should take a split second but I have to wait for the OS to consider it before decides to create a new mail.
Generally, programs have just been stalling even more frequently than usual and I spent a portion of the day staring at spinning beach balls. I'm considering 30-60 minutes a portion of the day.
I've looked at some of the obvious things; I've eliminated all start up items in the accounts pref pane, I've freed up as much of the HDD as I can so I now have 12GB left on my 90GB partition. I'm currently running VMWare but I'm certain that it's actually having little to zero impact on the system performance. In fact, WinXP is running far more responsive at the moment as it's being emulated by Fusion. I had Tinker Tool installed but eliminated that and have restarted the os a number of times. Nothing seems to be standing out in Activity Monitor as a memory hog. Top items right now are VMWare, Safari, WindowServer and kernal-task.
    Some more background...
This is a 1 gen old 15" MacBook Pro with a 2.2 GHz Core 2 Do and 4GB 667 MHz Ram. It occasionally likes to refuse any keyboard or track pad input but I can plug a mouse in and close programs before I restart. When that happens I need to zap PRam to get back to normal. I've probably done that about a dozen times in the last two weeks. I think that make be related to static discharge as I use the laptop. I had it at the Apple store to get the mother board (are they still "mother boards"?) replaced due to a video output problem and when I got it back the embedded serial number was gone so that causes issues with retaining passwords and such while web browsing. I've been informed on this forum that they can fix that at the shop. I've been having issues with the battery as well but just attribute that to an "old" battery. It's only about a year old but doesn't last more than 45 minutes. More recently, it has just decided to shut off with no warning when the battery indicator on the bottom of the computer shows it still has half a charge.
    Thanks for any input

  • Cannot print specific websites to HP printers

Trying to print a specific website http://www.desert-alchemy.com/info/article/decision-making/ to an HP LaserJet 400 M451 and LaserJet Pro 300 m375nw using iMac OS X 10.9.3, MacBook 10.9.3 and an older MacBook 10.6.8 in Safari, Chrome and Firefox.
The printers simply stalls. The laserjet pro 300 reboots each time when getting the print command. The laserjet 400 doesn't do anything. LJ 400 says "printing" and "copying print data". I chat up HP Chat Tech support and they said, "We do not have Apple Tech Support Training. Please call M-F 10am - 7pm."
I have an old 2100M and hooked it up to the 10.6.8 OSX running MacBook. 2100 printed the above websites footer and header, nothing else.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi,
After waiting a couple days, maybe the problem would just magically resolve itself, tried again to print and same behavior:
HP LaserJet 300 Pro reboots, Error Code 79 and nothing prints.
We took out our Canon Pixma MP560, the one which makes a ton of noise, which prompted us to purchase the HP LaserJet in the first place, the Canon Pixma MP560 prints the above website in 6 seconds while the HP again, reboots.
Isn't there anyone at HP that can answer why this website doesn't print? http://www.desert-alchemy.com/info/article/decision-making/
Is there something in the driver I'm missing? Is there a radio button I'm not hitting? Why can't these 3 HP printers print this website but the Canon can?

  • I have to disconnect and reconnect wifi to get on internet, I have to diconnect and reconnect wifi to get on internet

We got two MacBook Pros an iPad an iPhone 4, 4s and 5 in the household. All of the them connects fine to the internet via WiFi, except one of the macBooks.
Both running on  OS X v10.6 Lion.
When I startup safari (and FireFox as well) the internet stalls and we have to turn off wifi and the reconnect to make the browser catch any page.
During a session  I sometimes have to do the same e.g. trying to get on hotmail or a homebanking site or downloading anything. I don't have the problem on any of the other computers.
Have tried to reinstall OS with no effect. I have set the firewall off, and the security level to low. Same on the Symantec Protection wich I have only on this device.
Oh and restarted the router. No luck.
WiFi connection on this peticular unit is always very slow.
A little help would come handy.
    Thanks Jesper

  • My mobile broadband doesnt seem to want me to use firefox it wont let me open firefoxor when it does open it stalls but if i switch to IE no problems im on 3

when i try to log onto firefox it wont let it open sometimes and if it does when i try to use it the broadband stalls or freezes but i can have an IE window open and its working ok

That's strange. It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is changing your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal? Also have you tried uninstalling & re-installing flash? If you need help un-installing Flash see http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html. You also could try safe mode. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Safe+Mode .

  • Firefox suddenly stopped responding. I couldn't close Firefox, then restarted my computer. When I did, Firefox constantly gives "Not Responding"; will not start. I tried reinstall, and am getting a stalled installation. What can I do?

    OS: Windows XP
Numerous crashes out of Firefox in recent uses, before this latest catastrophic crash.
    Installation is also stalled.
I cannot open any Firefox window and have it find the internet now, so am stuck using Internet Explorer to log in here.
Past crashes have been about once every 18 hours, not including some crashes of Flash roughly every 3-5 days.
Should add that I couldn't kill any Firefox process using the Windows Task Manager, which is a first. And, (re-)install hung for more than an hour now, not proceeding.
Norton scan showing no viruses, and it has the latest definitions. This seems confined to a problem in Firefox.
Trying again to install and get this running, trying to open Firefox again fails, using what I presume was the latest previous install. I can't re-install still.
I did briefly see a program called SysFader trying to run when I was opening the Firefox window (unsuccessfully), but just did a search in my hard drive for a file or folder named SysFader and there are no matches. I don't know if they are related.
Nearly a day later and no apparent progress.

  • Acrobat Pro 8.1 stalls in Firefox .....frequently

I appear to have a problem with Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 downloading .pdf files in Firefox 3.0.14.  This is happening frequently on files greater than about 2 MB.  I am currently trying to download a reference manual that is 7.7MB.  All was normal until about 3.1 MB was downloaded. The program appeared to stall.  Looking at  Processes in Task Manager, Acrobat.exe is using 9-11% of the CPU with System Idle taking up the other 89-91%.  It has been about 30 minute and the download is now at 3.53 MB.  I called technical support on the site that has the reference I am trying to download and they see all to be normal downloading the document from their computers (of course they are on the same server).  This happens on another system and other sites, so it doesn't appear to be my individual installation.  Maybe it's my ISP, but I doubt they will fess up.  I have a 1.5 MB/s DSL connection.  Could it be Firefox?  Has anyone else had this problem?  I am running Windows XP(32 bit) SP3 with latest updates.  I have a fairly recent computer with Intel dual core processor and 4GB of RAM.  Any help or comments would be appreciated!
    Barry

You should check your file associations (Start--> Control Panel--> Folder Options--> File types) to check what program should open .pdf files. It should be Adobe Acrobat.
Also, you should make sure that you DO NOT HAVE Acrobat and Acrobat Reader installed on the same system This situation has been know to cause all sorts of erratic behavior with Acrobat. Also, Adobe STRONGLY SUGGESTS that only one product, not both, be installed on one system.

  • Every 5-20 minutes firefox stalls (not full crash)

Windows 7, 6.0.2, http://i.imgur.com/qBmF9.jpg shows addons installed. issue has existed 2-3 weeks now. Firefox "stalls" (not a crash, just blue-circle, screen goes white, not responding) for approx 20 seconds, every 5-20 minutes. Sometimes random, sometimes seems to be triggered by opening new tabs, especially many new tabs. Does not happen in chrome, haven't tried IE. I had upload ping issues with my router, fixed them, problem persists. I can switch to other programs during the stalls, only firefox slows down. Any help?
Sorry for the terse writing, I wrote this in the question box before realizing there was a details box I would be given later on.

Other information - Sound will still play, such as from youtube, up to the point where the buffer ended.

  • Firefox 6 bug stalls on many sites

For some reason or another Firefox 6 while it looks great is actually acting very buggy. I use a hotmail account and it constant stalls there and on other sites forcing me to have to constantly refresh the screen in order to get it to open to the next page. Am I the only one this is happening to? I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times and each time I do it also looks like some modification of improvement has been made to it. I am experiencing this on my windows 7 ultimate 64 bit acer desktop (which is where I have seen the modifications) as well as my emachine and other 32 bit xp professional desktops. It actually has me concerned as o whether or not it is stable enough to use for online banking due to all the stalling or freezing of pages. help

Same with my Windows Vista. I simply hit reload once or twice and the website works. When I go back to an earlier version of FF there is no such problem, but then the earlier version auto updates back to FF6 and the problem returns.
Lots of others reporting similar problems under "hang" and "freeze" complaints, but nothing new from Mozilla. Guess we just have to hope it gets fixed in FF7 - or move to Google Chrome/ Microsoft Internet Explorer if it is too disconcerting.
