Firefox 2.0 speed

Have just upgraded to Firefox2 on two different computers-one on a wired DSL connection on iMacG5 running 10.4.6-one on an iMacG5 running 10.3.9 wireless via Airport Extreme. It is my impression that both browsers are now slower rather than faster. Don't have any tech specs to back it up but seems as though loading pages and downloads are slower. Anyone seen similar problems? I run disk utility and repair permissions first. Also-anyone tried Opera and with what result?

I had a problem with pages loading slowly after my upgrade to Firefox 2.
My fix was fairly easy.
In your Browser's address bar type- "about:config"
you should get a list of browser prefs.
Top of the page you'll see a filter pane. type "network" to filter by network.
Scroll down to "network.http.pipelining" and change the value to True.
Below that, change the "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests' to something like 10.
hope this helps your situation. It made a world of difference on mine.

its playing in the background right now and sounds fine. Motion is a little jerky but acceptable.
using the 2.6.16 kernel from testing firefox from current over a DSL line.
Is the rtc module loaded? Otherwise at a loss (as usual)
BTW, that VW system is the last thing I need in my truck. Would rather have a cup holder that works and a first gear that does not lose sync.

Cannot activate firefox built in Speed dial

Hello, Every time I open a new tab whilst my computer is busy I see a speed dial page briefly which then quickly reverts to homepage. All I want is the speed dial to load up as my deafalt home page and for every new tab I open. Most help refers to needing a plugin for this but a) I can see the speeddial occasionally and looks functional b) it must be built in as I have no speeddial plug ins c) downloading a plugin is not adequate as the speeddial I see works with my walnut theme very well and I dont need the additional features. How do I set the inbuilt speed dial to open as deafalt?

Since upgrading to 5.0 I have not been able to access the firefox version of speed dial, what happend to this?

On 5.0, what happened to the foxdial (similar to speed dial addon)?

The player works for me in Firefox 3.6.26 on Linux, but not in current Firefox releases and in Google Chrome.
Weird. It works in Firefox 10 if I run the object code in a new tab. This also works in Google Chrome.

I cannot add on my "collection" of on the Firefox website "Page Speed" of google

IT IS A WEBSITE PROBLEM NOT FIREFOX SOFTWARE.
Same as title. It just doesn't find the addon "Page speed" of google on the website of Firefox. And because I tend to lose the plugins while switching between FF versions, I really need a place to collect all my addon as list.

Both the Yahoo! Toolbar extension and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause an issue like that. Disable or uninstall those add-ons.

Am using windows 7 and upon installing firefox 4 i installed speeddial extension and it was working fine but after 2 days speed dial no longer appears why is that?

You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
If you detect a faulty add-on, you should contact its author for support. You can also search for alternatives. Site filters are relatively common in the add-ons gallery: [http://addons.mozilla.org addons.mozilla.org].

I want to use the speed dial extension when I start firefox. I have the option checked in speed dial settings but firefox does not open to the speed dial. How do I get this to work?

I want firefox to open up to the speed dial add-on so I can use it as my start page. In the speed dial options I have checked the option to start firefox in the speed dial but when I open firefox it doesn't open the speed dial.

Firefox internet speed slow in verizon fios until I use another browser. When I return to firefox speed very much inproved = to other browsers

Each time I run verizon's fios speed test in fire fox the results are very slow until I use another browser,IE, chrome, then back to firefox and rerun speed test. The speed increases = to other browsers. I have another computer on the same network but with win 7 instead of win 8.1 and do not have this problem. This has occurred over several months ,versions and updates of fire fox. I have tried many fixes to no avail. I like fire fox and want to stay with it.

Does FireFox work with Windows Vista?

Question is not about the machine I'm using right now - so I haven't opened the "troubleshooting" window. The question is regarding my wife's old Vaio laptop with Windows Vista OS. It browses very slowly. We may want to use FireFox and possibly speed browsing. Uses Chrome now and will want to migrate tabs and favorites (etc).
Is this possible and might it make the system a little faster?

Seems like your slowness issues may caused by malware. Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. 
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. 
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Java Applets not working with Firefox 5 properly

Java Applets work sometime. But after sometime the Java icon at the bottom (near date & time) disappears. After this no matter what I do it does not work. Java Applets are used in this case to draw charts. The same charts come out properly in Internet Explorer. But I prefer using Firefox for its speed. What is the reason for this problem ?

Why do I have 2, 3, 4 copies of Firefox shown in Windows Task Manager Processes Tab?

After a few days, Firefox will get real slow, has lots of disk activity when opening a new Tab or going to another website. When I look in Task Manager, I'll see as many as 4 instances of Firefox in the Processes Tab. Even if I restart Firefox, some or all of these processes remain and I have to manually stop them to get Firefox back to speed. What is wrong or is it something I'm doing?

You can test to see whether one of your plugins is causing Firefox to use too much memory by selectively disabling some of them:
1. Click the menu button and choose Add-ons.
2. In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Plugins panel.
3. Click on a plugin in the list to select it, then select Never Activate to disable it.
Repeat for some of the plugins in your list.
After disabling some of your plugins, close and restart Firefox, and observe its memory usage. If you don't see an improvement, you can enable those plugins again and try with a different set.

Firefox causing high GPU usage and fluctuations

I have an NVIDIA GTX 440 graphics card and I like to monitor its speeds and tempratures.
Ive noticed whenever using firefox even when im just scrolling down a page my gpu clock will shoot up to max (822 mhz) and this will of course cause the fan to speed up and make noise.
Its kind of annoying cause when im not scrolling its on idle and quiet, and then I scroll down and suddenly it shoots up. Basically its making my gpu go from max to low constantly and I dont think thats very good for my gpu.
Is there anyway to fix this? I dont see why firefox needs max speed from the GPU.

There should be an issue in bugzilla for this. It's obvioulsy coding defects. Chrome utilize GPU 3-4 times less than Firefox and works smoother. IE10 utilize GPU 10-13 times less than Firefox and works even more smoother than Chrome.

Fios upload problem with firefox

just got 25Mb/25Mb Fios along with the Extreme HD tv service installed today and was having upload speed problems while running Firefox. Had speed of 25Mb download but 4-7Mb upload. Tested with IE8 and got download of 24-25Mb and upload of 21Mb. Did another test with Google Chrome and got better result same 24Mb-25Mb download and 23-24Mb of upload. What is the problem here with Firefox? Currently running Window Vista Ultimate 64-bit version all updated to latest version, Intel i920 OC to 3.8Ghz, 6GB of Corsair Dominator DDR3 triple channel ram, Asus Deluxe P6T motherboard, ATI Raedon 4870 X2 (yea i know its a little old, but was waiting for the new videocards to get a little cheaper before upgrading to either the ATI 5870 or nVidia 470), harddrives are 300GB Velicoraptor and 1TB Seagate 7200rpm and 2TB WD Green drive. Use this PC mainly for online gaming MMO's and FPS's games. This PC was built around 2 years ago so parts are a little old, but was having no problem at my old home with Fios 15Mb/5Mb plan, got what i paid for there with the Firefox. 15Mb download and 5Mb upload everytime i tested the speed out for 3-5 months since it was installed.
Ran both Speedtest.net and Speaskeasy.net tests. Fios guys even ran the optimizers and that didn't help at all, they said since this was an issue with Firefox and not IE or Chrome that was not really Verizon problem since i was able to get ~25Mb upload speed on the other 2 broswer. Is anyone else having problem with their Firefox Upload Speed?

Be sure you have the latest version of Firefox/3.6.6. Some of the older versions may have had issues. I did a google search and only found the postings for upload speed issues from 2009 and back.
