FIrefox 20 - make address bar larger

Hi, I don't mind most the UI changes in Firefox 29, and am happy to adapt to the new interface. The only issue I'm having us that the address bar is too small. I am a web developer and constantly looking at URL slugs, and I need the address bar to be more visible. Is there any way to make it larger to see more of the URL? I also DO NOT want to rely on the "Classic Theme Restorer" addon. I use minimal Firefox addons , and I don't want to rely on a 3rd party addon, I would really just like to know how to increase the address bar length in Firefox 29 WITHOUT addons. As all I see right now is the SSL information an the first 10 characters of the URL, most of which are "https://ww", this is not very helpful for my use case.
Thank you,
--Tony

Nevermind, I "reset to default" and now it's all better now. :)

• Firefox 29 - transparent address bar

I have just upgraded to Firefox 29 and have managed to change the controls so it looks like the old version but I am unable to work out how to make the address bar and navigation buttons section transparent like they were before. Is there simple way to do this in Firefox settings or about:config or will I have to get an extension to restore this?

I tried the add-on but it made the navigation buttons transparent too so you could hardly see them and there was no separate setting to make the buttons properly visible.

• Apple Mail links will not open in Firefox. The address bar and page are blank.

I have just upgraded Firefox to version 4.0 and when I receive an email with a link in it, the link will not work. Firefox will load but the page is blank and the web address bar will sometimes show the link and sometimes not. If I cut and paste the address from the email it will not work.

In mail.app preferences there is a setting for RSS that lets one choose which program is the default RSS reader. Whichever program is set to be the default RSS reader is used by mail.app to open any urls in mail messages.
I really like my Mac but this is the most un-userfriendly, un-"it just works" thing I've run across in the 23 years I've been using Macintosh...

• Change firefox icon in address bar

I'm attempting to customize firefox to look like IE, don't ask why, trust me I don't want to. But anyway, I downloaded FoxE9, that kinda customizes firefox to look like ie9, which I think its the closest I'm gonna get.
Only problem Im running across is the firefox icon that is in the address bar on the left side, I think its called a favicon?
Is there any way to change or remove it? Also this is firefox portable version 26.

That isn't a correct action for the URL bar.

• Firefox mistakes the address bar as the search bar.

Everytime I go to do a Google search, I begin typing and all of a sudden, my text stops showing up in the search bar and begins to show up in the address bar. This also happens when I'm searching on YouTube and when I try to copy a link from the "Share" tab on a video, it automatically jumps to the address bar. Firefox seems to think it's now Google, I guess? It only does this on websites run by Google.

'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).

*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on ''Help'' (or click on ''Help'' in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.

* On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.

Click the url in the address box.
Sorry, you cannot increase the default length of the address bar.

• Firefox 4.0 address bar shortcut - used to be F6 in older firefox versions, what about firefox 4?

Hey guys,
pretty much wat i;ve asked in the question bar,
Oldre firefox versions would let you type in an address by hitting F6 but what has this been changed to in firefox 4? I;ve tried various button combinations or has this been removed entirely?

There is a bug report concerning this, F6 will not work with tabs on top.

• How to make address book larger and more readable?

extra large isn't big enough. is there a way to make the address book interface larger and more readable?

This won't cover the entire interface (although there is a somewhat experimental way to do that as well), but try quitting "Address Book.app" if it is running, opening "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" and entering this command:
defaults write com.apple.AddressBook ABTextSizeIncrement -int 10
Then relaunch "Address Book.app". Substitute whatever integer value you prefer in place of "10" (the default sizes are 1, 2 and 3 respectively for "regular", "large" and "extra large").

• Shorten firefox 33.1 address bar for longer bing bar

earlier versions of Firefox had "spacers" to add to accomplish such things. They are not to be found in the present version, at least not by me. Thanks, George Kunkel

You can place the mouse pointer between the location bar and the search bar and it will become a resize icon that you can drag right or left with the left mouse button pressed to change the relative width of the location bar and the search bar.

• I can't copy or paste anything from firefox to the address bar or to word or anyplace... any ideas? thanks Patricia

Thanks, Patricia

you should try the copy+paste tool CLICKTO! (It's for free!)
That tool will post your link to FB in just one click. All you have to do is to press STRG+C after marking your desired link. Clickto will show you the opportunities options for the paste action. Choose FB and CLICKTO will post you link to FB automatically. Take a look how it works here: [http://www.clicktoapp.com]

• I used to write e.g. "onet" in the address bar and firefox opened page "onet.pl". After reinstalling Windows it only moves me to Google. How can I change it?

Thank you in advance!

Firefox's address bar ("location bar") has an "autofill" feature based on your history. Once you've visited onet.pl the next time you type onet Firefox should suggest that location by pre-filling it in on the address bar. Is that not working? Does it work for .com sites or not for any sites?
Or if you meant more generally that you want to type a word and have .pl added to the end, then you can change what Firefox does with address bar entries by disabling the search feature. Then Firefox will use a "fixup" procedure instead. This change needs to be made in about:config. Here's how:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''keyw''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the '''keyword.enabled''' preference to switch it from true to false
(4) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''fix''' and pause while the list is filtered
(5) If the '''browser.fixup.alternate.suffix''' preference isn't .pl you can double-click to edit it

• Address bar google search does not open in the current tab

When I do a address bar google search, the search window does not open in my current tab (which is usually a newly blank tab window), instead it opens in a previously opened tab window (or sometimes even a new tab), but never does the search appear in the current tab. When it does this, it ofteb replaces a web page which I can no longer view it without going backwards.
The only fix I have found is to open a new tab and go to Google's web page and search from there. But, this takes extra time and I have to remember to do this. Otherwise, I might lose web pages I wish to view.
This never used to happen until recently. I have a Mac using Lion for the past year.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Anna

I appreciate your input, but I don't want the google web page to open in a new window.
Instead, I want to search using the address bar in using google to open the search in the tabbed webpage I am viewing, rather than open another tabbed webpage. When it opens in a different tab from the one I am in, it either creates a brand new tab, or more problematically, opens the search in an tabbed window which has an existing webpage I still want to access for viewing.
This is a Firefox issue. Address bar searching works as it should in Safari.

• How can I get rid of search.babylon in my address bar, I have tried everything?

when I open firefox, in the address bar comes search.babylon.com I have tried everything to get rid of it and can't. Please help

Unless you are a new computer user you may consider doing the above in a different order, and even avoiding the Reset Firefox step.
# Remove Babylon related and other unwanted software
#*see also [[Cannot uninstall an add-on]]
and [[Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page]]
#Try ''SearchReset''
#*SearchReset may not have a permanent effect unless rogue software is removed first.
#*Also I am not certain SearchReset deals with [http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file user.js] files if that was created or modified by Babylon etc
# Consider using FirefoxReset.
Reset is quick and easy, BUT be aware it removes amongst other things all of your Firefox software extensions. You may wish to at least list them and their websites before you use Reset.
# If you are confident enough to create a new Firefox profile there may be better; none destructive methods; of sorting out such problems.

• Address bar disappearing

I recently had to reinstall Safari because it was crashing every time I opened it. I think maybe something was wrong with my preferences file.
Now that I've installed it from scratch (version 5.0.3), I cannot make the address bar stay visible. When I open a new window, it always opens without the address bar visible, and I have to go to View > Show Toolbar to make it appear again. I've looked in the preferences but I can't see any option to make the default behaviour to have the address bar visible. I've also tried right-clicking the address bar and choosing "Keep Item Visible" but when I open a new window, the address bar is gone again.
Am I missing something very obvious? If anyone knows how to make address bar visible by default, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
From your Safari menu bar click View / Customize Toolbar. Drag up the default bar straight up to the address bar.
Carolyn.

• Address bar i'm feeling lucky

The reason I'm using firefox is that i could change the configurations and that allowed me to use the address bar as I wanted.
Before the last update, I used the address bar with the option I'm feeling lucky from Google and had Duck for the search bar. That means I was using two different search engines until the last update. Why can't i use that.
I thought the idea of putting I'm feeling lucky in the address bar was genius and when it wasn't by defaut I changed it in the config (about:config) and then switched to an Add-On. Now none of them work.
I'd like to have a search engine for the address bar and another one for the search bar, not one for the two.
It would be too bad if it can't be done, firefox seems so much nicer than the other browser and is loosing that

It has been many versions since Firefox linked the address bar to the search bar. Were you using the Keyword Search extension to assign the lucky search to the address bar? If not, I suggest trying it:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/keyword-search/
After installation, go to the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then click the Options button for Keyword Search and change the Google Options to lucky search (see screen shot).
Success?
