Firefox 21.0 doesn't warn when closing multiple tabs

I have a Mac OS X, version 10.6.8. I'm using Firefox 21.0. I have the box checked to warn me when closing multiple tabs. It does not. Why? Is there anything I can do to make it work correctly? Any information I've been able to find on the internet is for other versions of Firefox and is of no help to me.

PROBLEM: Windows FF 21.0 warns when closing multiple tabs when ONE occurance of FF is open, but NOT when mutlipe windows are open (then it only warns once I'm down to 1 window open).
I would like a warning for ALL windows' multiple tabs. I know this is possible because that has always been the case until approx. the latest update.
Oddly enough, the only thing close I found is a post from 2011 with the exact opposite problem: warning only when multiple windows are open, but not when 1 window is open.)
SUMMARY attempts gleaned and compiled from the various posts (with no effect):
- at General tab, "Show my home page" is selected ("Show my windows and tabs from last time" is NOT selected)
-at Tabs tab, "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" is selected
- at Privacy tab, "Use custom settings for history" is selected along with "Always use private browsing mode" (is selected); however, this has always been my setting, and I've always received warnings in multiple windows until recently
- staring in Safe mode had no effect
- my about:config boolean settings are appropriately set to true/false
- I've tried restarting Firefox multiple times and restarting the computer; I have not re-installed FF nor restarted from fresh, wiping out all settings because I have so many customizations.
Any other thoughts of what I might try?

  • Firefox 25.0.1 Warn when closing multiple tabs (on) conflicts with "show windows und tabs from last time" (on); need both, but only one or the other works.

Using Firefox 25.0.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium
I've poured through support forums for Mozilla Firefox searching for a fix to my initial problem of the "Warn when closing multiple tabs" pop up not popping up when I have it selected.
Went through About:Config, making sure warnings for tabs und closing, und showing on quit, und quitting, etc. were all set to true, which were "possible" fixes for the issue I was having, there are like five or six things set to true for warnings/quitting/etc. No avail. They are all set to true.
Then I stumbled across one that suggested a conflict with the "Warn When Closing Multiple Tabs" und the "Show Windows und Tabs from last time".
I use both features. However, I found if I want the warning pop up for closing multiple tabs, I have to have "show homepage" or "show blank page" selected instead of "Show windows und tabs from last time" selected. (Tools>Options>General>Start Up>When Firefox Starts:) The problem with this is, yes, I get my warning pop up, BUT, I don't get my tabs from my last session.
The warning in settings (Tools>Options>Tabs>Warn Me When Closing Multiple Tabs) is checked.
To have my tabs restored from last session, I simply select it for "when firefox starts". Bam, I have my tabs that were open from the last time I quit. Und again, full circle, I don't have my warning pop up.
There were also suggestions of the warning on close for tabs is conflicting with add-ons.
However, I don't have many. Und I have yet to test them to see if they interfere. These are according to my Add Ons tab when I check it myself.

    * NPWLPG
Unsure of what the "5.1.20913.0" und the "NPWLPG" plugins are, but they don't appear to me under Add Ons.
Und as usual, I'm assuming the solution lies within About:Config, I will show here now what I have set to True.
    browser.tabs.warnOnClose - True
    browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs - True
    browser.tabs.warnOnOpen - True
    browser.warnOnQuit - True
    browser.showQuitWarning - True
    As aforementioned:
The seemingly only issue is the conflict between Show Windows/Tabs From Last Time und the Warn On Quit pop up. Und again, I need/want both of them. More so the tabs from the last session, but I really really really really really want the warning.
So, if anyone knows a work around, preferably without having to download anything to fix this, I would be extremely grateful.

    You mention a second subject.
''I'm probably going to downgrade to another version of firefox that was suggested to me since I'm also having issues with shockwave flash causing firefox to hang und ultimately needs to be force closed otherwise having to have flash disabled to use firefox.''

Flash is notorious for causing Firefox problems. I suggest you start a new thread about that. If at all possible you should try to avoid downgrading to an unsecure & unsupported version of Firefox. it will increase risks to your system and Personal data. (This is out of curiosity, but with the intention of pressing for changes if forum faults are discovered.)
There are yet more changes to this forum underway. Mozilla recently tried to improve the experience for first time users of the forum and a troubleshooting app option was included in the workflow to try to encourage users to submit full troubleshooting information.
I would be interested to know what you thought
I sometimes wonder if users are not trying to use that, or whether forum users run into problems in using it. At one point I wondered whether there was a problem if too much data was included but never actually proved that conjecture.

Firefox is not warning when closing multiple tabs, even though it is set to warn me in preferences! Unchecking and rechecking the box does not help, it's as if Firefox is ignoring the option to warn when closing multiple tabs.

You can set the warn prefs on the about:config page to true via the right-click context menu or toggle with a double left-click.

  • Warn when closing multiple tabs

I find it really annoying that there is not an option to warn when closing multiple tabs (as there is in Firefox). The number of times I've pressed Apple Key + Q accidently when I meant to press Apple Key + W!
I hope this will be tackled in a forthcoming release.

  • Warn me when closing multiple tabs is not checked, but I still receive the warning when closing multiple tabs

After installing Firefox 16.0.1, I always get a warning whenever I close multiple tabs, even though there is no check mark against the option, "Warn me when closing multiple tabs".

This a recent bug problem. In other versions do no exist. Some users like warnings, but others not, like me.

  • Yosemite - Safari still does not warn when closing multiple tabs, what will it take to get Apple to add this simple option?

I cannot understand why Apple does not add the option to warn you when closing multiple tabs. There are posts all over the Internet requesting the feature or looking for a way to do it.  Why do they totally ignore this valuable, simple feature?

Thanks for the support.  I guess you take one battle at at time because you hate to lose multiple battles and I picked this one. However, and this could go on quite a while, why do I have to buy another application to sort my bookmarks and have the sort sync the Cloud?. Bookmark sort - that is a programming 101 feature. Now I found that iPhoto can read AVCHD video files and Quicktime cannot.  Oh my. I wish Apple would read the posts and actually take them into consideration. It would make their users feel more included.  I do like Yosemite and love email markup. Good job but the customers have a few good ideas too.
At least you can Air Drop to Mac now!

  • Firefox 4b10 does not warn when closing multiple tabs (setting is on).

    Hey,
Firefox 4b10 won't warn me when I'm about to close multiple tabs. I have verified this setting is on multiple times.
The only reason I think this is happening is when I decided to download Firefox 3 (latest version). I installed it to see if IPTV would work on it, and decided to uninstall it. This also ended up deleting some of my addon's such as ABP.
I've tried uninstalling FF, using CCleaner and then reinstalling it.
For some reason when I install FF4, I can't seem to find the SAFE MODE option, even when I run it with "firefox -safe-mode".
    Could someone help please????
    Thanks. :D

The prefs for Save & Quit the warning message have been set by default to false in current Firefox 4 beta versions (Bug 592822 - Remove quit warning dialog).

  • Why am I not warned when closing multiple tabs even though it is set in the preferences to do so ... using Version 4 on a MAC

I have set the preferences to warn me when I close the browser window with multiple tabs open. No warning is given and the multiple tabs have to be reproduced every time I open. In previous versions I would be asked if I wanted to SAVE the tabs for the next session ... which I do. And, when opening Firefox the next time, the tabs would all be there.

You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get back the previous session.

  • Warning when closing multiple tabs in 2012 macbook pro

I used to close accidently when working on internet, so I want safari warns me before closing. I checked Safari Preferrent > Tabs > but No choice for that issue for mid 2012. How do I do?

I just downloaded the latest version of Safari (6.1) and it does not have that feature.
You could do what I do, use Firefox.  It does have that feature.
    Ciao.

  • Firefox 17.0 doesn't warn me when closing multiple tabs any more

    hi all
Having updated to Firefox 17.0 (from 16.0.2), for some reason I don't get warned when closing multiple tabs any more.
I've confirmed the relevant options are selected and am 100% certain this was working fine before updating Firefox today.
I've replicated the problem on my vista 32bit platform and on XP 32 bit too.
I also looked at the changelog for Firefox 17 but can't see any explanation for this change in behaviour, although I wonder whether this might have something to do with it "772319 No option to disable the "Close other tabs" prompt."
As I use Tab Mix Plus (add-on), I've also checked Firefox in safemode and have found the native tab warnings not working, so have concluded it's an issue with Firefox (rather than something to do with an extension).
I've checked "about:config" and "browser.tabs.warnOnClose" is set to true, as is "browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs".
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gary

I have this problem too. i have tab mix plus but in my case browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs and browser.tabs.warnOnClose are both set to true but i still get no warnings which sucks because i accidently click on close alot.

  • If you check the don't show this again box when closing multiple tabs, how do you get it to warn you when closing multiple tabs, or to save previous tabs? Checking the warn me when closing multiple tabs box under tools/tabs does not work to solve this?

I accidentally checked the do not ask me again box when closing multiple tabs. Now I no longer get a warning when closing multiple tabs, and it saves my previous session. I have tried checking and un-checking the warn me box under tools which has not worked. If I open a second window and try to close multiple tabs it will warn me but not on the first window.

You can reset the warn prefs on the about:config page via the right-click context menu.
    browser.tabs.warnOnClose , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries
    browser.warnOnQuit , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnQuit
    browser.warnOnRestart , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnRestart
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

  • I checked the box that says "warn me when closing multiple tabs" but it doesn't warn me at all

I checked the box under Option > Tabs that says "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" but whenever I would accidentally close firefox with multiple tabs open, it doesn't warn me at all! It would just close everything. I have tried to check and uncheck it a lot of times but it still not working.

You can reset the warn prefs on the about:config page via the right-click context menu.
    browser.tabs.warnOnClose , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries
    browser.warnOnQuit , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnQuit
    browser.warnOnRestart , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnRestart
In Firefox 3 you do not get the 'Save & Quit' pop-up dialog if you choose Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time".<br />
If that option is selected then your pages will already be reopened the next time.<br />
To get that pop-up dialog you have to select one of the other choices (Show my home page, Show a blank page).

  • Even after enabling "Warn me when closing multiple tabs", firefox closes without any warning even if multiple tabs are open.

I recently installed Firefox 4.0 and in the options, under the section "Tabs", I have enabled "Warn me when closing multiple tabs". But if I have multiple tabs opened with websites loaded in them, and then try to close the browser, it simply closes. No warnings are shown (which was there in previous versions). Couple of times I clicked on the close button of browser and then realized that I had some important sites opened in different tabs, which I lost as it didn't warn me. Can you please let me know whether this is a bug or a mistake from my side?

I'm sure you are using Private Browsing mode in Firefox 4. I have also the same problem and I tried to uncheck this option after many times accessing about:config\browser.warnOnquit. And it's wonderful, the warning cameback. I think it's a bug about Private Browsing mode. Hope Mozilla's Developers will fix it.

  • "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" doesn't work

Under Tools > Options > Tabs, "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" is selected. Also, in about:config, browser.tabs.warnOnClose is set to "true". I always have multiple tabs open. However, sometimes my hand slips or the mouse falls off the table and Firefox closes without any warning.

I had this problem too a few monthes ago,
sorry don't remember how I solved the problem...
BUT a general TIP is that you sometimes should fully reinstall Firefox from the scratch.
I mean save your bookmarks (json), have a list of your add-ons,
preferably with their url too, and one for your plugins too, everything safe in a folder in your documents...
And only then "shoot away" Firefox from your computer, profile included...
make a full cleaning of everything belonging to Firefox.
(with Glary utilitises, CC cleaner or any soft alike)
Reinstall everything with the latest Firefox.exe !
This especially if you're used to ( as I am) try new adds, make changes
    in about:config... and so on.
I guess it comes because with the "normal way of updating", which I suppose is the case for most people, just to download the updates, Firefox, after a few monthes,
starts to mess a little things around.
And even "Speedyfox" nor defragmentation can't help that much...
Personnaly, I don't like so much to do it, but like that, usually my Firefox works fast and well.
Another solution is to use "FEBE" add-on...
I wish this "general tip" will help some of you, or at least give some indications,
on how you want to solve some Firefox problems :-)
Note : depending on how many add-ons you have, this may take ~30minutes up to 3 hours (:-(), if you have never saved anything before (list from your adds).
PS Me ? I save everything quiet often, because I once lost, years ago, everything concerning Firefox because I did a main mistake (lost all my bookmarks)... and told myself : Not Twice... :-)
    Happy Christmas ! :-)

  • Firefox warns always when closing multiple tabs, even when respective setting is cleared

Firefox warns always when closing multiple tabs, even when respective setting is cleared. "browser.tabs.warnOnClose" (and "browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs" too) are in "false" state. The same behaviour after reset. Firefox 32.0.3, OS - Linux Mint 17.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
