This appears to be happening more often after updating to 23, and also updating windows. I am not certain if this has any bearing

  • FrameMaker 8 crashes frequently on Windows 8

    Hi,
I've had FM 8 since 2008, and it's always worked fine, but since I upgraded to Windows 8 a couple of months ago, FM has started crashing randomly. It wasn't so frequent at first, and the symptom of the crash made me think it was just slow (it will suddenly say "Not Responding" at the top of the FM application). That can happen with anything, and it usually means that something is temporarily hogging the system or slowing it down for some reason. But in this case, FM never comes back from the not-responding state. If I click on the application, everything goes gray. Eventually I have to exit the program or kill it through the task manager.
    Here's mybasic info:
    System: Dell - 64-bit processors (2), 4 GB (3GB usable) RAM
    OS: Windows 8 Pro, 32-bit
    FrameMaker: 8.0p266
I saw a similar post from 3 years ago, of FM 8 crashing in Win 7. There were several responses with suggestions, but I know that Win 8 is different from 7, so I'm not sure those suggestions will apply here. The incompatibility between FM 8 and the 64-bit processor (mentioned in the other thread) sounds quite possible, but I'm not sure what to do about it.
    Thanks,
    Joyce Wermont

    > You need to run FM8 in an XP virtual machine ...
That would probably fix it, however ...
It will need to be a 3rd party VM, because Mr.Bill doesn't support "XP Mode" for Windows8. That was a Win7 [Ent/Pro/Ult only] thing.
If you upgraded from Win7 in place and had XPM installed, it might work. "Compatibility Mode" is no substitute. If you can downgrade to Win7, XPM is still available for download (it's huge, and is an old XP/32 install, which needs all 200+ Windows Updates). With a 3rd-party VM, you'll need to get an XP license and code by some other means.
You may need to have a CPU that supports hardware virtualization. Almost all AMDs made in the last decade do. Intel CPUs, esp. low end SKUs, often don't (reportedly fused off because you didn't pay enough). A Dell PC will almost certainly have an Intel CPU.

  • Firefox 19.0 Crashing in Windows 8

I recently got a new computer with Windows 8. One of the first things I did was download Firefox. However, Firefox has been crashing frequently. Sometimes it will crash several times in a row, either upon starting the browser or after a very short amount of surfing. Other times it will allow me to surf for a while without a problem.
I have read through some of the other similar topics. I have disabled hardware acceleration and removed extensions. I tried installing an earlier version of Firefox (16.1) and the problem persisted.
Here are my most recent crash reports:

I don't really want to change browsers, so any help would be appreciated.

Firefox has been up and running perfectly for at least 8 hours after downgrading. Problem solved - thank you very much!

  • Firefox crashes frequently. Especially on upload of files to server.

I am running the current Ubuntu Firefox, it appeared to be downloaded from the standard repository. Upon upgrading to Firefox 10, Firefox began to crash frequently.
I have not been able to find a rhyme or reason to the crashes but I do know that Facebook and the ANGEL course software used at my college will cause it to fail most of the time.
On ANGEL the issue is nearly 100% repeatable when uploading files. Facebook and all other websites, it occurs randomly. I haven't been able to find a consistent reason.
I am running Bodhi Linux 1.3.0, an Ubuntu 10.04 derivative.

You may find Ubuntu forums more useful if you are not running a nnonestandard version of Firefox, ( if you do find a solution elsewhere, a link would be appreciated). Note also at the moment there seem to be quite a few crashes of Firefox 10 being reported, they may even have suspended the automatic upgrading to Firefox 10.
For general information please read [[firefox crashes]] and after reading that see if you are able to obtain CrashID s and report what those are. I would also keep an eye on general posts in the forum and the article [[latest firefox issues]]

  • While on Firefox my computer crashed and firefox will not open. Everthing else runs fine, how do I fix this?

I'm using a new Asus netbook and have no idea what caused the crash. I tried restarting firefox in the crash pop up window, nothing happens. I tried quitting firefox and then restarting in the crash window, it sends a report and that's all. I cant open firefox. I have power cycled the computer several times, tried to checking and install all plug ins, re-install firefox, uninstall and then reinstall ( could not reinstall), I restored the computer to the previous day and it still wont open. I tried opening it safe mode, I tried opening the computer in safemode, I still can't open firefox. I also tried to test for a virus by creating a notepad document on the desktop and naming in firefox.exe. Notepad ran fine. I also renamed firefox.exe to firefox3.exe. This didn't work and changed the name back.
    What do I do now?
The computer I'm sending this from is not the one that crashed

Both your Conduit Engine, particularly, and Alexa Toolbar are known troublemakers. I would advise Googling both for advice and removal instructions.
I'm not sure it is a good idea to have both Foxit and Adobe Reader.

I was using firefox 5.0.1 & it was crashing frequently.I removed the installation & tried to reinstall.I getting a window asking for adminstrator password.Even after entering password, firefox was not getting installed

Sorry you are having problems. First of all try Fifrefox's safemode.
*[[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]
If that works post back for further advice.
Next step, if safe mode did not work.
<u>First: Try a clean install, (you have had a none standard version installed previously)</u><br /> that involves deleting the program files. Then if necessary try troubleshooting by creating and using a clean empty Firefox profile.
    See
    * this recent post [/questions/940399#answer-377134]
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall
    <u>Second: try a New Profile</u>
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile
    * this will be an additional profile, it is still worth backing up any existing or currently working profile on a regular basis
**[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
    * Until you are absolutely confident about the repercussions I suggest
** always use an empty folder when creating a new profile
** never delete or rename profiles, just disable or remove shortcuts
** after creating a new test profile open it and check for any addons or plugins that may be have been included by default

  • TS1717 iTunes 11 and Windows 7 (32 bit). iTunes crashes frequently (Windows message : "iTunes has stopped working and will be closed").

iTunes 11.0.1.12 and Windows 7 (32 bit, latest version). iTunes crashes frequently (Windows message : "iTunes has stopped working and will be closed"). I may be trying to search for an App. or book (or anything else), trying to access iTunes store, checking for updates to Apps., inputting my password, etc. etc. I have uninstalled iTunes several times, reinstalled several times, but the error persists. I tried the iTunes 10 suggested fix of running in safe mode, but iTunes again crashed when I was trying to create a new ID.
Any real help would be gratefully received. Thank you.

  • After update to Firefox 15 it crashes after javascript call window.close();opener.alert('test');. Is this working as intended or is it a bug?

After update to Firefox 15 it crashes after javascript call from a popup window.close();opener.alert('test');. Is this working as intended or is it a bug?

According to the pages linked to the crash ID, there is a bug report on this.
Does the crash occur as soon as you run those two lines of code, or after dismissing the alert()?
If this is your application, why are you running script commands after calling window.close()? Could you avoid the problem by using an approach like this:
    <br>window.setTimeout(function(){opener.alert('test'},250);
    window.close();

  • Firefox frequently loses window focus

It seems that Firefox frequently loses window focus when I open a new page. It may be a bookmark, a link opened into a new tab via CTRL+Left-Click, or whatever. The following scenario always results in the window losing focus (for me).
    # Open Firefox.
    # [http://www.foxnews.com Open this link and bookmark it].
    # Close and reopen Firefox.
    # Open the page just bookmarked using the bookmark list and don't touch the window.
I read this page daily, so when I start Firefox and open the page, I have to click in it so as to scroll, etc..

Since I upgraded to the new firefox (4.0.1) it crashes on startup.
(By crash, i mean the mozilla crash reporter appears and goes no further)
    I am running windows xp.
Here is what i have tried so far:
    - uninstalled & reinstalled firefox
    - restart in safe mode (causes crash reporter to appear too)
    - uninstalled google desktop

Only I upgraded to firefox 4 while it was in beta and never had any problems like this. It took the final version to have problems. I truly miss my Firefox 4.
it crashes on start up with tabs open. sometimes i can tell it not to open my tabs and it'll run until I open up some tab that causes things to crash. but once it crashes it wont run until i close all the tabs. but on other occassions it just crashes.
    thanks

    Error Message
    "Script: chrome://tavgp/content/libs/include.js:595"
Choice of "Continue" or "Stop script"
When choosing "continue" firefox launches but after a while crashes. Using Windows 7

That is a problem with an AVG extension (toolbar).
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • My Firefox crashes frequently, but I the system can not find the reports to send for analysis.

My Firefox crashes frequently, The system goes to the grayed screen and sits there until I try to close it, then it says "Firefox not responding" and I close the program. When I go to "about:crashes" it says the report was submitted, but I never get any feedback and when I try to retrieve the report to look at it, the system can never find it. This happens at least twice daily. It keeps searching for a while, then displays the gratituous "Oh Noes. The report could not be located" message. I've included the latest crash report address.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5. You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • Firefox crashes frequently while using facebook, youtube, etc

I am using firefox 30 and my firefox crashes frequently when i use facebook, while watching youtube videos, closing a high-loaded tabs, etc and also shows "plugin-container.exe has encountered a problem and must close." and another problem is that while watching youtube or using fb plug-container.exe and firefox.exe both uses about 500MB of my RAM and currently I have only 1.5GB RAM which makes pc working slower. I had recently disabled hardware acceleration but the crashing problem still there.
    Please provide me a Fix.
