Firefox 24 - options not remembered from session to session

When I upgraded to Firefox 24, all of the option settings from v23 reset to the defaults. I put them back the way I had them before, but after restarting the browser, everything defaulted as before. I am running NoScript, and any changes to its rules are also lost when I restart the browser. I've restarted several times. with and without system restarts, and the results are always the same.
History and passwords seem to be updated and maintained across sessions. The problem is with configuration data for Firefox and NoScript.
I am running XP SP3 with 2 user accounts. One is an administrator account that I use only for system maintenance, and the other is a limited account where I do most of my work. The admin account, where I installed v24, remembers configuration changes between sessions; the problem is with the limited account, which is the one I care about.
I've checked the profile in use for the limited account, and the files have current update stamps in the \limited user\application data\mozilla folders, so it doesn't look like an authorization problem. This folder now contains 86 numbered prefs- files of which all but 3 have today's maintenance date, but the prefs.js file shows yesterday's date, before I upgraded versions.
There are also 25 numbered sessionstore- files, all of which have old dates, but the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files show as current.
Any suggestions?

After posting the question, I found this thread in the support forum - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-fix-preferences-wont-save?esab=a&s=firefox+24+-+options+not+remembered&r=1&as=s#w_reset-firefox-to-fix-the-problem.
Following the instructions, it looks like the prefs file for the limited account was corrupted in the upgrade to Version 24. I have deleted it, and the problem is solved.

    Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
    If the latter happens then you have a problem with cookies that are not kept or the file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
    Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie that you must allow: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"
    Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the 'Cookies' and the 'Site Preferences'.
    Make sure that you not run Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode.
    In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and some features like visited links and others are disabled and not working.
    You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing".

    Now up to Firefox 8 and the problem persists. Cannot go to the www.turnitin.com page and login as I used to do -- Firefox does not remember my username or password.
    Still works on Windows, and with other browsers... It would be great if a fix is available.

  • I have removed the master password, but Firefox still wil not remember passwords when I log in to other websites.

    Please read question above

    Whether or not you have a master password has no effect over whether or not Firefox will offer to save login information.
    * [[Usernames and passwords are not saved]]
    Some sites will prevent Firefox from saving login information using the ''autocomplete="off"'' attribute. You can ignore this as follows:
    # Type ''about:config'' into the address bar and press Enter.
    # To bypass the warning, press the big button labeled "I'll be careful, I promise!".
    # In the search box, paste ''signon.overrideAutocomplete''
    # In the search results, double-click ''signon.overrideAutocomplete'' to set its value to '''true'''.
    Firefox will still not autofill login information for such sites. You have to either double-click the user name field, or type the first letter of the user name.
    Also check that you didn't tell Firefox to never remember login information on specific sites.

  • Firefox 4 does not search from Location Bar (Awesome Bar)

    I have searched the knowledge base, and not found anything exactly like my problem. A similar question, '''[https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/815325 Url Keyword guessing does not work]''' is close... but only close. Link below.
    I was previously able to type some keywords into the Location (Awesome) Bar, and it would either jump to an appropriate page, or come up with a Google Search page of possible sites.
    I have upgraded to FF4, and while I can successfully conduct searches from the dedicated Search Bar, typing keywords into the Location Bar brings this problem. I have used "Mozilla Foundation" as my search keys:
    '''Firefox can't find the file at jar:file:///C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/omni.jar!/chrome/en-US/locale/browser-region/region.propertiesmozilla+foundation.'''
    The portion '''file:///C:/Program''' appears blue as if it is a link, but clicking on it, nothing happens. I have attempted multiple search keys, and nothing changes.
    I have attempted to use the about:config | keyword.enabled to turn it off, then back on, and it doesn't seem to have worked. I really can't decipher anything about the message that I do get (above). This may or may not matter, but I was surprised to find that my existing Add-On, "Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.2.1" is no longer compatible, and thus not functioning.
    Thank you very much for helping.

    You can modify the pref <b>keyword.URL</b> on the <b>about:config</b> page to use Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" or Google's "Browse By Name".

  • Firefox 4 is not remembering history or allowing "back" or "reload"

    I'm on Windows 7 Professional. I'm a LONG TIME Firefox user - several years. I love the program. I DO HAVE A PROBLEM NOW.
    About a week ago I upgraded to Firefox 4. Since then the program is exhibiting bizarre behavior. I reinstalled TWICE - same issues. Sometimes it works correct, but it seems arbitrary at best. Here is a description:
    1. When I open Firefox it no longer goes to my chosen home page - www.yahoo.com, as it has for YEARS. I checked the setting. It is still there.
    2. About half the time the "Back" and "Forward" buttons are grayed out. Sometimes they are on, but I can't figure out a rhyme or reason to it. (I am a LONGTIME web user - make my living on the web - not a novice.) I triple checked all my settings in "Options" and they are what I set them at.
    3. Sometimes I will be using the program and the "back", "forward" buttons come on and then they go off. Usually once they are on they stay on. If I am on a site and going forth or back they usually work once they START working, but they don't always seem to WANT to work.
    4. I've tested this for several days - can't figure it out.
    My PC Intel Core i& 930 @ 2.80 GHz 6 GB ram, 64-bit Windows 7 - WORKS GREAT otherwise.
    I have no problems with "back" and "forward" or "reload" buttons in IE, also installed, but seldom used. HELP

    cor-el
    Thank you for your swift reply. I don't know that this has helped me, as I've reached my level of tolerance for fooling with this annoying little problem - for today anyway. It has been going on since I "up" graded to Firefox 4. My wife is running 3.6.x on her laptop with none of this foolishness. As BLASPHEMOUS as it may sound, I've gone back to IE for the time being even though I don't like it 1000th as much as I do Firefox.
    Not just to rant here, I would say that I found a way to put some buttons on the right side of the toolbar that immediately gave me permission to "back, forward, and reload", but upon closing the browser and going out for dinner with the wife, I find on return that not only are those buttons NOT still on the toolbar, but I can't find them anymore. I think they were in "add-ons" found under I believe Add-On Manager.
    I did also manage to achieve back/forward functionality running Firefox in SAFE mode, but this meant no No-Script, among other things, and I've grown too fond of that particular little script to give it up.
    I've rebooted, restored, and reinstalled, can't get this formerly completely reliable program to work like it always has. Before looking around on here, I was beginning to think it was my PC.
    THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP, cor-el. I'm going to see if I can get on live chat on Monday.

  • Firefox still does not remember some passwords. Is this ever going to be fixed? I've had to switch to Chrome because of it.

    I never had problems with earlier versions of Firefox, but starting several versions ago (I don't remember which one now), it started forgetting some of them. The worst problems have been with Facebook, which is the one I visit most often except for my ISP's spam filetered mail. That site has not had any problems. I'm using Windows 7 with the latest updates. Firefox 12.0, Norton AV (2012), Windows 7 firewall. I can't think of anything else that might affect the browswer, and Chrome has had no problems with the passwords. I have IE and Opera, neither of which I use enough to have noticed problems.

    Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
    There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically.<br />
    The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.<br />
    If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you anymore and you need to sign in once again.

    Can you try to run SQL Devloper in the same environment to see if you can meet the similar issue?

  • Save as FXG option not working from script.  Am I doing this right?

    I see that the Illustrator Scripting reference document for CC 2014 [1] has references to FXG, FXGSaveOptions, etc.  I thought I would give it a try to see if I can save a document to FXG.  Here is what I am trying:
    var myDocument = app.documents[0];
    var myTextFrame = myDocument.textFrames.add();
    myTextFrame.position = [200,200];
    myTextFrame.contents = "Hello World!"
    var newFile = new File("c:/temp/fxgfile");
    var fxgSaveOptions = new FXGSaveOptions();
    myDocument.save(newFile,fxgSaveOptions);
    This causes the file to get saved as fxgfile.ai and not fxgfile.fxg that I was looking for.
    Any ideas?

  • Everytime I start Firefox it will not remember by home page. I have set it according to the FAQ's listed but it changes everytime i close it.

    I open Firefox and have to reset my homepage every time I open it. I have followed the instruction in the FAQ's, but it still changes after being closed. Also when I try to open another page it open something trying to sell me something or telling me that my drivers need updating or that I do not have the latest version of Firefox (I currently have version 28.0). I get pop up adds without opening or being asked if I want to view them. This is a new computer running Windows 8.

    Is your homepage getting changed to the same URL every time you open Firefox?
    What's happening sure sounds like you picked up some Malware, , that you may not be aware of, along with a homepage changer of some type.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

  • Hardware_Diagnostics PC_Doctor PC-DOS option not available from TV R&R 4.21 Service Partition

    I recently updated my Z61t laptop [with XP Pro preload] to TV R&R 4.21; the Service Partition experienced corresponding changes.  When I run the Service Partition, the help text continues to refer to the Hardware_Diagnostics PC_Doctor PC-DOS [reboot] option (which was available under TV R&R 3.x); however this item no longer appears as a menu option [the space it formerly occupied is now blank!]
    Interestingly, with a little trickery, I can still  launch the Hardware_Diagnostics PC_Doctor PC-DOS functionality from the Service Partition using a 3rd party boot manager...
    There are no apparent system problems associated with this change, but I am wondering if this feature loss is a symptom of some more significant issue [or problem] as yet undiscovered...

  • TS3171 IO'S and bus names keep changing from session to session

    My IO'S keep changing there names back to original factory names after I change names on bus and input output they do not save from session to session .i am in 9.21 ver and using lion any help would be great

    To recap (correct me if I'm wrong), two things have to happen for session sharing to work: 1. the session must be passed in a cookie (the same cookie used by appls sharing the session), and 2. the appls must use the same authentication.One solution is for both/all participating applications to use an authentication scheme based on our built-in session management mechanisms that use a cookie in conjunction with our internal sessions table. The schemes may differ in most other repects, e.g., one might use LDAP and the other your own user tables to authenticate. N.B., the no-authentication (DATABASE) scheme does not use a cookie. Another solution is for you to implement your own session management infrastructure. With that, the only constraint on session sharing between applications is that a) the applications must belong to the same workspace, and b) sessions already "registered" in the internal sessions table with an authenticated username may not be used by a different authenticated user.
    Optionally, if you want either of the appls to have public access you make the pages public.Yes.

  • Helllo I cannot activate the setting in the options panel get Firefox to restore the tabs from the previous session. The option is grayed out. What can I do?

    When I start Firefox itt will not restore the tabs I had open during shutdown on the last session. This used to be an option when working on something in order not to have to leave the pc on over night. Now the option under Firefox/Options/General: On Firefox Startup: "Restore the tabs & Windows that were open in the last Firefox session" is grayed out, so that I cannot select it.

  • Firefox blocks my ATT mail from reloading, i.e. remember password. I have to re-input sign-on each session.

    Under options, I chose for my computer to remember passwords. Each time that I open my ATT mail account, it requires me to sign in. A pop-up appears that says "Firefox has prevented this page from reloading". It only happens on this laptop. My other Laptop doesn't do this.

    See:
    * Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
    The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.
