Firefox 26.0 search bar has an erratic behaviour on ubuntu linux

When I start firefox and do a search for the first time everything works flawlessly, from that point onwards every search I do won't work.
By the way the suggestion from google are still the (and so the autocopmletion) it simply seems like the return is not 2felt" by the bar.
Using ubuntu raring ringer x64.
Tried several times purging the install in apt-get and reistalling as well starting firefox in safe mode, no changes.

  • My Location/Search Bar has no memory. It does not remember what I type in.

My Location/Search Bar has no memory. It does not remember what I type in it when I am doing Google Searches. I have had this problem for over a week now.

I guess I would call it the "Google.com" Web Site. It is the horizontal bar/box in the middle of the screen (not at the top). Whenever I would do a Google Search, whatever name I typed in that box would stay there until I manually deleted it. Now, nothing stays in that box. Can you figure out why?

Choose Show Toolbar or Customize Toolbar from the View menu and put it back.

  • Firefox added a "search bar" as a tab. I don't want it. How do I get rid of it?

This was solved a long time ago. I previously flagged it as solved. I continue to get suggestions.. I don't need them. I've tried "unsubscribe" too, but I still get answers. NO FURTHER ANSWERS ARE NEEDED. Thank you.
recently Firefox installed a search bar in line with my tabs. I don't want it and can't find how to get rid of it.

It seems to part of the add-ons. I was able to remove it by going to the add-ons in the Firefox menu, and taking to following steps:
Add-ons menu, Extensions, Default tab, Click "remove"
(I tried just disabling it, but it didn't seem to work, so I removed it.)
It should then ask if it's ok to restart and when it opens up again, the search box should be gone. Hope this helps, it worked for me.

  • ITunes 11.01.1.2 - Search Bar has disappeared.

I'm running the latest version of ITunes on a Windows machine.  As far as I know, we haven't updated it recently - think it has been updated for a while.
I opened ITunes this morning after using it successfully in the last couple of days and the Search Bar in the top right has disappeared, so I can't search my music collection.
I've looked under the Edit and View menus, checked Help, looked at preferences and I can't work out where it's gone or how to get it back.
    Please help!
    Cheers.
Don't worry - I've worked it out!  Thanks all!

    Hey there Man-of-Mystery,
It sounds like you are looking to use the local network sharing feature of iTunes, which can be found here:
iTunes: How to share music and video
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2688
For the sharing feature mentioned above, you do not have to be signed in to Home Sharing and it does not require the other computers utilizing the shared library to be signed in to your Apple ID. Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • The browser and search bar has disappeared.... including the entire menu. How can I get it to show up again? Should be easy but I can't figure it out. Can anyone help?

The only thing that appears at the top is...

    Getting Started
    No menu above it.

You can drag '''Search Bar''' from '''Customize Toolbars''' window which is accessible either from
    '''menu bar''': '''View>Toolbars>Customize...''' or
    '''Firefox menu''': '''Options>Toolbar Layout...

  • After a Firefox update my search bar is useless. There is Nothing there to manage so I don't know how to fix it.

I have the search bar but nothing is there. There are no search engines to manage. I really miss that search bar and am afraid of another update. Since I lost it after an update I get anxious when Firefox updates now.

You can check if you have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.

You can find the full version of the current Firefox 33.0 release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data if you would uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

  • Firefox CTRL+F Search bar searching with Case Sensitive

is this only for me or all ?
Fiefox search bar is working with case sensitive.. if i type in capital.. it is only showing the results with capital.
for example. Type "vishnu" in search bar. it will only show you the small vishnu below.
    VISHNU vishnu
is it a bug ? or is it a feature ? if it is a feature, i want to disable it :(

You can remove the check-mark on Match Case if you open the Find bar via Ctrl+F (Edit > Find).

  • Since recent Firefox update, Google search bar is in foreign language!

Following the recent firefox update, my google searches are directed to google.cz. Unfortunately, I don't speak cz, only .co.uk

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ get the uk version and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Since I installed the latest version of Firefox, my Google search system has forgotten about my past entries and is not adding on each search topic etc as I search. Is this a GOOGLE or a Firefox issue?

Example. I searched for NYT.COM. In past the system remembers and when I start typing ny it immediately fills in nyt.com and other options related to nyt.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.

  • After updating to FireFox 16.0.1 in Windows, the address bar stopped working, as well as the search bar, though not immediately. Reinstall didn't fix it.

Initially I downloaded an AOL-optimized version, but when the problems came up I reinstalled the regular version and it was fine. Two days ago it randomly started again. Address bar won't go anywhere with enter or pressing the arrow button, and the search bar has no search engine. Trying add a search engine by clicking "manage search engines" doesn't help; the "add search enginges" button is unresponsive and there are none in the list to choose from. I uninstalled everything including my customizations and personal settings and reinstalled, which still didn't help. I tried disabling all the plugins and that didn't work either. I even tried searching from the FireFox home page search, since at that point it was the only page I could get to, and even that wouldn't search. The most recent add-on I downloaded was the Evernote Web Clipper I think, but it didn't seem to coincide with the start of the problems.
Update: I ran a malware program (MalWareBytes) and it came up with nothing. I also got back into FireFox to get the Troubleshooting Information and added it in. In addition, here's my complete plugin/extension list:

Sorry you are having problems. First of all try Fifrefox's safemode.
*[[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]
If that works post back for further advice.
Next step, if safe mode did not work.
<u>First: Try a clean install, (you have had a none standard version installed previously)</u><br /> that involves deleting the program files. Then if necessary try troubleshooting by creating and using a clean empty Firefox profile.

    * this recent post [/questions/940399#answer-377134]

    <u>Second: try a New Profile</u>
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile
    * this will be an additional profile, it is still worth backing up any existing or currently working profile on a regular basis
**[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
    * Until you are absolutely confident about the repercussions I suggest
** always use an empty folder when creating a new profile
** never delete or rename profiles, just disable or remove shortcuts
** after creating a new test profile open it and check for any addons or plugins that may be have been included by default

  • Firefox 4 search bar and "Tips" bar are blank windows that do not work. Removed F4 and downloaded again three times but no joy. Gone back to F 3.6.17.

On Firefox 4 home page the "Tips" bar and search bar above it
are both blank windows. The search bar does not say Google on left side. I can type in search bar but when I click on search nothing happens. ( Desktop XP Pro)
On my Laptop (XP home edition) Firefox 4 works fine and I have not found any faults so far.
It's a shame losing RealPlayer downloader for YouTube. I have to go to IE for that.

Seems that may have worked and that's great, thank you. But now I have another problem which seems to be as persistent as the search bar has been.
Now when I edit the bar and position of the buttons some of those buttons disappear when I click Ok in the customization, but reappear when I reopen the customization settings.
Why is that? When I put a space in between some of the buttons the buttons near the space will disappear and leave a blank space where it should be.
I'm beginning to be rather annoyed with this Firefox Beta to say the least and am considering returning to the version before it. Whatever I do now as far as customizing is concerned of the toolbar is reset every time I reopen Firefox. The buttons are no longer where I had set them up, the address bar is stretched to it's maximum, the Menu Bar is back the far left edge, buttons are missing that I had put there, and buttons I had removed are returned.
:| I know it may seem insignificant to some people but it annoys the crap out of me. I understand this is a beta and if there is no solution then I perhaps will use the earlier version for a while.
Thanks for your input by they way, it's much appreciated.

  • Where has my search bar gone in ff34?

I would like to be able to update FF only when I want to, but it forces me to update by stopping working a day or two after the new version appears! Anyway, since updating to 34, my search bar, which I use all the time for different search engines, has vanished, so I've had to revert to version 33. I imagine, at some point it will decide to stop working, and I'll have to upgrade, but I'd like my search bar back before I do, if that's possible?

Thank you very much. It appears that if I disable one extension (Organize Search Engines), then the search bar comes back, but another extension that is not disabled (Add to Search Bar) has stopped working. I have emailed the developer of these extensions, so hopefully there will be a resolution.
BUT (Firefox, not you! :) )...
I KNEW it would happen, I even predicted it - this morning Firefox just decided not to bother opening at all, because I had the TEMERITY to be using an old version. I mean, who do I think I am? How DARE I have a reason for not wanting to upgrade! It won't even run in safe mode!
SO, I had to download the latest version of Firefox FROM SAFARI!!!
And now I have the same problem with the search bar as I had before. Firefox therefore, has wasted an hour of my time for nothing. Again! Thanks a bunch, Firefox!

  • Firefox search bar suddenly changed to french...

    Hi.
On my work arch linux desktop, the  firefox google search bar has suddenly changed to French.
I'm pretty sure it is not the fault of the arch linux package but though id ask here in case anyone knew ...
    Any ideas ?
    Cheers

I don't know if either of these suggestions will help.  These are untried by me
    1. Remove the Google search engine and then add it back. Next to the the search bar's icon, there's a small down arrow.  Click on it and select "Manage Search Engines..."  Use the dialog box buttons to remove and then add Google back into the list.
    2. Type "about:config" into the address bar.  A warning may come up.  If so, promise you'll be careful.  Filter on "keyword.URL".  The value for "keyword.URL" on my installation is:
    http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
Yes, the value ends with "&q=".
    Edit to correct typo.
