Firefox 27 beta hogs 100% of CPU = 1 core on Mac

I have latest Firefox beta on Macbook Pro with latest OS X. Firefox is started to it's Welcome page, and Activity Monitor shows 100% for Firefox, meaning it hogs 1 core. Right now FF is started in Safe Mode with all Plugins disabled, hardware acceleration disabled and empty cache. Still it's running at 105% doing nothing (just one tab, the Welcome page) and the fan is humming. This can't be normal.

I found the culprit after further web searching: http://www.trusteer.com/products/trusteer-rapport
Uninstall of this Rapport, and both Safari and Firefox CPU loads are back to normal and reasonable.

• ITunes is hogging 100% of CPU. Tried "netsh winsock reset" fix already

I recently upgraded to 10.5 and iOS5. I had a similar problem to many in the community related to the sync getting stuck in the "back up" portion, so I tried the solution proposed by a bunch of people re: "netsh winsock reset" and I can now sync, but I still have the issue of iTunes and APSDaemon hogging nearly 100% of CPU. Anyone else having the same problem? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm having similar problems after the 10.5 upgrade on Vista. Tried the repair option in Control Panel, then uninstalled and did a fresh installation thinking it might have been due to the Apple upgrade installer but I'm still having the same problems. I've got 3gb of RAM but I can't even do something like writing an email at the same time as using iTunes without it beeping at me.

• Mail Can't Open & com.apple.internetaccount process hogging 100% CPU

Desperately seeking answers after Mavericks install..
My mail crashed and now won't open at all. I've tried most (if not all) the suggestions posted by others.  Haven't tried deleting and reinstalling mail yet, as this will be my last resort since I have a work account in it that is not on IMAP.
And another troubling issue is my macbook's fan is going crazy and feels like its overheating.
Looking at "Activity Monitor" I see a process "com.apple.internetaccounts" that is taking 100% CPU and 1.6GB of memory!!
No idea what this process is and can't seem to quit it.
PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks in advance

@Drewli77 yup that's it. When Mail opened I chose Google/Gmail and let Mail set the account up for me.
Before doing that I had noticed com.apple.internetaccounts hogging the CPU. I went into System Preferences > Internet Accounts, waited 10 minutes for the spinning ball to stop, then deleted the Google account in there. There was only one Google account in there, despite the fact that I have four Google accounts set up in Mac Mail. Anyway this one account seemed to be what was slowing down that preference pane. After deleting Accounts.plist I re-added my accounts in Mail, which added them to the Internet Accounts preference pane, but now that preference pane (and Mail) open just fine without hogging resources.
What annoys me is the fact that hitting Delete on a message sends it to Trash, which in Mavericks corresponds to Gmail's Trash, meaning it gets purged every month (regardless of the setting you choose in Mac Mail). I've been using Option-Delete to Archive it, but I wish I could just use Delete for that, since I always Archive and rarely Trash messages. I would set another folder to be used for Trash, but sadly, all of the options under Mailbox > "Use this mailbox for" are greyed out.

• FireFox 4 beta 8 freezes on startup, 25 CPU usage, over 2 GB RAM usage

Safe Mode does not work, the same thing happens if I do that. I have tried uninstalling, restarting and reinstalling but the same thing still happens again.
What else can I do?
I have also tried going back to the 3.6 release of FireFox but it crashes instantly on startup, even in Safe Mode.

You should make sure that you are using firefox 4 in a separate profile from firefox 3, use Profile manager to help you do that.
I think by default firefox 4 beta is installed in a separate location from firefox 3, but you still need to make sure you have separate profiles.
Try to sort out the problems with firefox 3 first. See
* Safe mode
*Basic troubleshooting
With Safe Mode do not initially make changes in the first dialogue window you see, instead just click on the 'continue' button
Creating a new profile is a one of the troubleshooting topics covered in the above article but remember it is good practice
- to backup your bookmarks manually
- use an empty folder for each profile
- keep unused profiles (just stop using them &/or rename them) do not delete them (At least untill you are absolutely certain what they contain and what you could loose if you do delete them, especially if they share folders)
After you have managed to use safe mode successcully you may be interested in

• QTTask.exe hogging 100% cpu

This QTTask.exe is driving me nuts. It loads at startup, and renders my Vaio unusable as it takes up 95-100% of CPU time. I cannot kill it via Task Manager. Every time I remove the key which starts it automatically, it recreates it.
I don't understand why it is behaving like this on my machine, I have updated all my drivers etc to latest versions. I have the latest version of iTunes/Quicktime. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, run Registry Cleaners etc. Nothing will stop it.
Any suggestions?
thanks

Go to Start>Run and type in msconfig>click OK, then the Startup tab and uncheck qttask, this will get QT from loading at start up.
If the cpu keeps running 100%, disable all your, adware, anti virus, spyware, and whatever else is going on to protect your computer, cause one of them is likely not compatible with QT.

• Itunes uses 100% of cpu, Whats the deal?

Is there any solution to this problem out there?

Same problem on XP system.
iTunes 10.5 installed. AppleMobileService.exe and iTunes now hogging 100% (50% each) of CPU.
Tried complete de-install of apple software as per previous guidance for same problem with 10.4.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
This does not solve the problem with 10.5.

• IChatAgent takes more than 100% of CPU

The iChatAgent takes more than 100% of CPU. It works normally for 10-15min with little CPU usage but then takes 100% of CPU and stays like that until I quit/kill the process. I tried waiting for hours to see it might go down is usage, but no, and the cpu fan remains on continuously.
I simply use it for text based chatting, and have disabled audio, video, microphone etc, and still this behavior that I can't use it for more than 15min.
Here is the iChat version: Version 5.0.3 (745)
Macbook Pro/10.6.4/Intel Core i7
I have tried removing ~/Library/preferences/com.apple.iChatAgent.plist as suggested elsewhere, and that hasn't helped either.

Thanks again Ralph.
No, I do not have any add-ons, just out-of-the-box ichat without any audio, video in use.
At this stage unfortunately, I can't continue using iChat as it hogs up the CPU in less than 15min. And that I do not experience any problem with other chat-clients such as AIM or jabber, so switching over to those until there is a resolution.

• Firefox 4 beta opens instead of 3.6.13 - why?

UPDATE
I updated to 4.0b10, and apparent behaviour changed (I don't think it was doing this before, but I can't be 100% certain):
Both 3.6 and 4 Beta will now open correctly, provided that neither is already running.
If either is already running, then an attempt to open the other will instead open a second instance of the one already running.
ORIGINAL PROBLEM
I have been running 3.6.13 for a some time. Two days ago I installed 4.0b9 alongside, and at first I could use either or both.
However, now when I try to open 3.6, it appears that 4 is opening instead.
Looking at /program files (x86) / mozilla firefox/firefox .exe, the file properties still say that it is 3.6.13, and the file size is 891kb, whereas
/program files (x86) / mozilla firefox 4 beta 9/firefox .exe shows 903kb.
However, when I double click the 3.6 executable, it appears that the 4 beta browser opens.

If the add/remove programs option did not work, you can manually remove any versions that you no longer want. For details of how to remove them see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox
Typically, you just need to delete the installation directory to remove Firefox. user data and settings are stored in the profile folder, so will not be touched when you delete the other versions of Firefox.

• How to Download Firefox 4 Beta for Maemo !

Guys I am trying to install Firefox beta 4 on N900 by using this URL  "Download Firefox 4 beta 1 by visiting Firefox.com/m/beta on your Android phone, or Nokia N900" I tried couple of times and it's getting hung at "preparing for installation, please wait" step.

• I'm running Firefox 7 beta. Upon start up it asks me to update it, but when I go to the direct site it says that I'm already updates. Is there a 7.1 that I need to download? I can't find it.

When I start Firefox 7 beta in the morning it will tell me that I need to update it for security reasons. I hit "ask me later" and go to the Mozilla site to check to see if it is a valid update. The Mozilla site says my Firefox is already up to date. Is someone trying to get me to download something I shouldn't, like a virus? Or is it an actual update. I can't find anything about 7 beta updates.

• On installation of Firefox 4 beta, it tells me that it won't run on my Mac. When I go to system requirements, it takes me to a page for Firefox3.6 requirements. Where can I find the requirements for the beta?

The link to system requirements for Firefox 4 beta takes you to a page that gives you the requirements for Firefox 3.6 instead. I assume that the requirements for the beta are different as I can't seem to install the beta on my Macs. Where can I find the beta system requirements?

I never expected Mozilla to neglect the users of Apple's PowerPC (PPC) computers, while still supporting much older operating environments such as Windows XP. So, I should just throw away a $6,000 system, which is still fast and functional, and contribute masses of heavy metals to land-fills because…?
I'm hurt and confused after supporting Firefox for many years — installing and using it not only on my own computers but on most of my customers' computers. Now I have to tell my customers with PPC Macs they can't have a secure cross-platform browsing experience from Mozilla. They'll have to learn to use some other browser, or buy a new computer.
If one doesn't buy a new computer every year, one doesn't deserve Firefox 4. This is sort of sounding more like a Microsoft™© doctrine. (But wait, I can still have Firefox 4 on a SERIOUSLY CRAPPY WINDBLOWS XP pile of rubbish?!) Please open your eyes Mozilla. This just doesn't make sense.

• When I open firefox 4 beta the webpage does not load and i am unable to click on any buttons or access menus

This has only started happening today. When I start firefox 4 beta it opens and begins to load my homepage (google.co.uk) but the page never fully loads and firefox freezes. I am unable to click on any buttons on the navigation bar or access menus. Keyboard shortcuts are also unresponsive.
All that I am able to do on the browser is to use the three window buttons in the top right of the screen (minimise, maximise and close).
After closing the window if I try to open it again I get a message saying that Firefox is already running, but not responding. Once going into task manager and stopping firefox under the processes tab and then restarting firefox the window again freezes as soon as it opens.
I have tried restarting my computer and reinstalling the beta but with no success. I am still able to use firefox 3.6.13 as well as chrome with no problems.
Any help would be much appreciated

I had this too. Starting firefox in safe-mode and disabling all add-ons solved the problem. After re-enabling all add-ons did not bring back the problem.

• My old tool bar is not compatible with Firefox 4 Beta. How do I get rid of 4 Beta and go back to my old Firefox browser?

One of my social networks, MyYearbook.com , has it's own tool bar, which I use extensively. But, for some reason, it is not compatible with the new Firefox 4 beta, and will not load.
How do I uninstall 4 beta and go back to my older version of Firefox?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).<br />
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.<br />
If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key to make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
*Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize"
*Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
*If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
*If missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
*If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up

hello..i use firefox 4 beta 05..my question is..why when i open let's say 6 tabs..my windows show that i have 6 instancies of firefox instead of one like it does with firefox 3.6? thanks
maybe i am saying it wrong..when i press alt+tab there is only one firefox open..but in windows 7 in the taskbar..every tab open..appears as another window open

If you are referring to taskbar previews, you can turn them off by modifying a hidden preference.
# Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
# Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
# In the filter box type previews
# Double-click on the preference browser.taskbar.previews.enable to change its value to false

• Firefox 18.0.1 consuming excessive CPU--both in Standard and Safe Mode--when accessing Gmail

Firefox 18.0.1 consumes excessive CPU--both in Standard and Safe Modes--when accessing Gmail (in Standard Mode). CPU consumption averages around 56% on my dual-CPU, Windows 7 desktop.
The only way to stop this from happening it to open Gmail in "HTML" mode. When I open Gmail in Standard mode, a "Loading..." status shows at the top of the page. After about 30 seconds, a error window pops-up within the Gmail page saying that there is a performance problem and provides the option to load Gmail in a limited, "HTML" mode. Clicking the HTML Mode link solves the issue. I've been using Firefox for years and have never seen this issue until now.
