  • Every time I try to close out Firefox, it locks up and won't shut down unless I contol-alt-delete. I recently downloaded the latest version, but I was having the problem prior, although intermittantly. What to do?

I use Windows Vista as my OS.
I can navigate from window to window in firefox, or navigate between pages on a website OK, and I can close out windows until I get to the last one, and then it doesn't respond. I don't get a message that it isn't responding, it just sits there and won't close.
I'm not having this problem if I use windows explorer, but it keeps not responding while I'm browsing, so thats just as frustrating.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

I have made a batch file that shuts my pc down, but as the title says, I often just restart it.
What I want to do is make it nearly impossible to do this.
Is it possible to make another batch file that does this?

    Hi,
Here's a PowerShell script that will do what you're after:
    if ( (Get-Date).Hour -lt 8 -or (Get-Date).Hour -ge 22 ) { Stop-Computer -Force }
Just be aware, this is completely unforgiving and there's no warning.
Set it to run as a scheduled task at whatever interval you'd like.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee

  • My MBP (2007 intel) freezes or spontaneously shuts down and crackling comes from the speakers.

My MBP (2007 intel) freezes or spontaneously shuts down and crackling comes from the speakers. Sometimes this happens together all at once? It happens with and without peripherals. Has this happened to anyone else?
It does not seem to be linked to a specific program or periferal use.
I would appreciate if someone can shed some light on this.

Run the Apple Hardware Test and swee if any issues are discovered.  Also a SMC and PRAM resets may help.
    Ciao.

  • HT201401 Safari and Camera spontaneously shut down...help

I have an iPhone 4s.  I do all the updates that are available, so I'm at the latest version of iOS available. Safari will open and let me use it, but it spontaneously shuts down frequently...to the point where I don't even use it now, its so irritating.  Also the Camera was doing the same thing.  I would hit the shutter button and it would shut down.  Did that for awhile... couldn't get it to even work to take a picture in a text.  Now it won't even open... hit the app and it starts to open and then shuts down.  Anyone have similar issues or a solution?
    Thanks!

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Spontaneous shutting down.

My Power iMAc G5 10.4.11 is spontaneously shutting down when I close all open apps.
This has never happened before and energy saver shutdown does not appear active when checked.
I know this is an old iMac and I will be replacing it later this year, but it works fine otherwise and does everything that I need it to.
    Any advice?
    Many thanks.

    Have you reset the SMU?

  • Mini spontaneous shut-down and application shut-down problem

    Help!
    I've searched. I've read. I can't find the answer!
After I updated my firmware several weeks ago (to SMC 1.3f4), I've had problems with spontaneous shut-down of the computer, and a frustrating application shut-down issue (Safari, Mail, Word--you name it!).
I tried to find the other firmward update from last summer, which I read about in several posts from July/August, but the link is dead (Mac Mini Firmware update 1.0.1).
Coincidentally, after an office break-in two weeks ago, I FileVaulted my computer. I thought my problem must have to do with that, but all the posts I can find here are about this firmware thing.
Should I/can I reinstall the SMC 1.3f4 update? Is there some secret to the no-longer-available 1.0.1 update?
Can anyone help me? (I would certainly appreciate it!)

Try a safe boot, hold the shift key and power up, this will take a little loner than normal, hold the shift till you see the progress bar. See if it works normal, if it does than it is more than likely some 3rd party software. Then restart normal and check your console for panics. That would be your isssue.  You can also start holding command R and restoring from utililities.  Back up before you do anything.

  • Why does iPad spontaneously shut down apps?

My iPad has started spontaneously shutting down Apps, with no action from me. I try to make sue I don't have too many Apps opened that are not in use, so I don't think it's a memory issue. Sometimes it actually causes a restart, but not always. Anyone else experiencing similar actions?

    Hi,
Restore your iPad but not from a backup as you may re introduce the problem all over again.
    Instructions here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
You may want to sync maybe 5 apps at a time after the restore, then test the iPad. Might be one app that's the culprit.

After logic board replacement and software update, MacBook Pro is spontaneously shutting down and preventing restart. Inconsistent ability to restart after multiple tries. What is going on?

Hard drive sensor or logic board failure.
Try a SMC Reset, only thing I can help.

Check your tones with this sounds like it's not recognizing the RAM, perhaps it's not seated well or making a bad connection or it's defective.

  • Spontaneous shut-down while plugged in

Earlier this week my computer kept shutting down, going to that dark screen with ghost images behind it or just going black. Restarts worked one out of 4. With the power cord in, the restarts wouldn't work at all, with it out restarts were more successful.
I took it in to the nearest Genius bar, and they told me the bad news: I needed the hard drive replaced. Okay. Trauma-rama, went with one of the authorized repair places they sent me to, got a fair bit of my files off (don't lecture me about backing up properly, I know, I know!), yesterday evening I brought my baby home, loaded emails and music back on, time to start rebuilding, right?
Well, this morning my computer started acting up again. I leave it plugged in because the battery drains hella fast, but now we're getting the shut-downs, fan of death, etc., again. I have reset the PMU, but no difference. If I reboot without being plugged in, it's fine and it stays up. If I reboot with being plugged in, not so much. If I reboot unplugged, AND THEN plug in, it shuts down immediately.
I am reluctant to keep testing this, but it seems to me that something is additionally wrong with my battery and/or power cord. I have not replaced the battery in the four years that I've owned this, and I know I need to. But why would that cause problems with the cord plugged in? For the time being (until I can afford a new battery), can I just run it on cord power, and pull the battery out?

Yes you can run it without the battery.
Which iBook do you have? Sounds more of a power or logic board issue, rather than a hard drive. You should check your serial number against the lists of iBooks known to have bad logic boards or power management.

  • Spontaneous shutting down of HTC Trophy 7 windows phone

I have seen this on other forums but with no solutions.  Has anyone had issues with the HTC Trophy 7 shutting down on its own?  My phone does this now usually at least once every day or two and it seems to be becoming more frequent.  It seems to shut down by itself when I'm not using it for a little while, even 30 minutes or so.  It's not in battery save mode either.  any suggestions or comments?  thanks

    Hello jadevore1
Wow! What a irritating problem to have the device reset on its own. Let's investigate this together.
When the device resets, is it using a particular application? Are any applications open when it resets? Is the battery loose or swollen? Please remove the battery for 15 seconds then reinsert and retest.
If you still are having the issue. Please back up the device and perform a hard reset. Here's a link to the hard reset: http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=40853
Please let me know if this helps.

  • Laptop keeps shutting down and restarting after touchpad dies

Trying to decide ehat went wacky on a friend;s Toshiba SATELLITE S105-3713 laptop (running WIndows Vista Home Premium).
FIRST: touchpad just stopped working; I hodeb up an external mouse and checked out the device manager - no touchpad existed at all!  Went rhough Control Panel - same thing!  As if there were no touchpad installed.
THEN:  Decided to donwlad and reinstall the driver but  as I typed it was as if something else had control of the keybaord - characters I entered were deleted as if the backspace key had been hit, or I selected a website and no sooner got there but I was returned back to the initial search screen.
Ran a quick anti-virus scan and came up with nothing.  Then I deleted the old Synaptic Touchpad  driver, rebooted and re-installed the driver from a flash drive (I had downloaded from the Toshiba support site using another PC).  Still no touchpad finction and system still behaving as if a ghost had contgrol of the keybaord and the pinting device.
NOW HERE IT GETS WEIRD!  Decided to shut the laptop down for the night but each time it shut down it staarted right up again!  Finallyhad to pull the power cord and the battery.
So...is it possible there is a nasty virus in here?  Or could a system short / partial failure cause this crazy behavior?
This is a backup system for my friend - has anew laptop with all current data on it so this one is not critical.
Should I try reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling the OS?  Or could htere be a hardware problem not worth fixing?
    Help!  Thanks  - Cindy
