Any apps to clear temp files killing my space ?

    Hey priyankarzana,
First, try deleting the app and redownloading:
Remove the app from your device and reinstall it:
Tap and hold any app icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle and show a small "x" in the top-right corner of the app.
Tap the "x" in the corner of the app you want to delete.
Tap Delete to remove the app and all of its data from your device.
    Press the Home button.
    Go to the App Store.
Search for the app and then download it again.

You can also try to restore from an iCloud backup to see if that helps. You can read about how to do that here:

  • IPad iMovie help clearing temp files.

Does anyone know how to clear the rendering temp files for iMovie iPad addition. I ran out of space during my movie render (large 1 hour movie).  Now, I really don't have any space and no way to export the project to anything, including iTunes.

You could have done the following if deleting the projects from inside iMovie doesn't help for some reason
    - check out in iTunes' File Sharing pane (the one in the lower right area of the Apps tab) whether the iMovie app has any temp / xported files in its Documents directory. Backup and/or delete them.
If there aren't any files there,
    - get iExplorer ( http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/ )
    - go to <app home> / Library / Application Support
    - backup / delete the projects there

  • How does one clear temp files in Mountain lion?

Computer summary shows a large nmber of temp files. Also, my system is becomeing very slow.
what tool do I use to TUNE UP my iMAC?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • I used Computer Associates ver.7.0.0.117 to clear temp files and cache. Firefox won't open a window since though it shows in processes.

System: Toshiba Portege M750, Vista 32-bit SP2,4GB RAM
I've been using Firefox up until last night when I shut down. This morning I did a cache cleaning using CA Internet Security Suite, ver 7.0.0.117. Firefox will not open a window, though it does show in the Processes list of Task Manager.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled ver 6 from the web twice with the same results.
Firefox has had a tendency to hang (never finding a new website, i.e. busy icon revolves endlessly) when left open over several hybernation cycles.

    <u>'''Kill Application'''</u>
In Task Manager, does '''firefox.exe''' show in the <u>'''Processes'''</u> tab?
    See: '''[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Kill_application Kill Application]'''
'''<u>Causes and solutions for Firefox hanging at exit:</u>'''
    '''[[Firefox hangs]]'''
'''[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs#Hang_at_exit Firefox hangs at exit (Mozillazine article)]'''
'''[[Firefox is already running but is not responding]]'''
    <u>'''Safe Mode'''</u>
You may need to use '''[[Safe Mode]]''' (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox SafeMode is a diagnostic mode that disables extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes before starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
    See:
    '''[[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]'''
    '''[[Troubleshooting plugins]]'''
    '''[[Basic Troubleshooting]]'''
If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

  • How to clear temp files/caches

Hey, I was watching some HD video streams yesterday and i went back to my macbook today with it telling me i had zero kb available. I was thinking that the stream must have gone into a cache somewhere, so i used cocktail to empty user caches, freeing up about 200mb. I also used the safari clear cache function and restarted but all im still at just 270mb free.
I think i had about 5gb free yesterday, so it went somewhere. Help?

in omni sweeper i am coming across some curiosities -
There are 2 "users" folders, both appear to be identical in size and contents. I was thinking it could be just the way the program shows "macintosh HD" and "username". the folder is 21.4 GBx2, so is my OS somehow making a duplicate users folder? Because i need to include the total 42.8GB there with the other totals omni gives me to get my hd capacity of 80gb.
i could do a pic but this is the output of the program:
    21.4 GB Users
    21.4 GB Users
    13.3 GB Library
    13.6 GB Applications
    2.3 GB System
2.1 GB private -(used space on my linux partition)
    1.7 GB Volumes
so this all adds up to about 75GB, but i dont see my bootcamp partition.? and the duplicate users folder? not making sense. but it adds up. my toshiba hd capacity is 74.5 according to disk utility, making up that is 56.5GB macintoshHD, my windows part is 14.2GB, and linx part is 3.4GB).
So yeah, weird that omni gets me the total space correct but, if i have 21.4GB of this duplicate folder then that could explain why i have always thought i was missing space... but within the finder, there is no indication of a duplicate folder, (also i used the program invisibles to show invisible folders and i still have only the one users folder when i look at mac hd on my macbook)
And not to further add to the stew, but omni comes up with that last big item, the 1.7gb Volumes folder. its contents are only a very few items that are contained on a separate hd i have currently hooked up to my tower. when you double click on a folder that omni shows in its list, the finder pulls up that folder, for my 2 users folders, finder on the tower pulls up two windows showing the good old "Users" folder within a list. When i click on that volumes folder, i get nothing. FYI, the volumes folder is apparently an invisible folder, it is useless so i will delete it.
good news there, but i am still wondering about the two users folders omni comes up with, i wouldnt know which to delete...
edit: i wanted to mention that there is only one user, but i did at one point a while ago attempt to change the computer name, dont know if somehow that could have resulted in this mysterious identically updated folder over time...

  • The 2 year old fix for changing temp files is no longer valid, I need to change the temp file location in the latest firefox.

In 3.6.3 I'm unable to find the parent cache to change where the temp files are located. I have an SSD drive, and I need to get the temp file off, and onto my platter drive. I have read the previous fix of about:config and changing the parent cache location, but it no longer seems to be there. I'm unable to locate anything relating to my SSD drive location in about:config.
    == User Agent ==
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.70 Safari/533.4

Unfortunately, it appears that what I wrote about not being able to find the location IN about:config of the cache to change it from my C: drive to a different location, was mildly misunderstood that I didn't know how to get into about:config.
The location of browser.cache.disk.parent_directory does not currently exist in 3.6.3. I'm assuming it's under a different location. Also using the simple string of "cache" lists several options, but none of them appear to be where firefox is currently dumping the temp files onto my C:
I merely need to know how to switch the temp file location from 1 drive, to another. Not downloads, the temp file.

  • Why does firefox need to be closed to delete cookies & temp files

Only firefox seems to be this way -- under Windows, when I run a cleaner to delete temp files and cookies, firefox temp files and cookies can't be deleted unless firefox is closed. Can't this be fixed?

Other browsers don't seem to have his problem. i enjoy be being able to click on one item and having things cleared without fuss or bother. I'd prefer not to auto delete with each close nor do I want to have to manually hunt down with Ctrl+Shift+Del. I'm aware of those options. I was wondering why firefox still worked that way. Definitely a disadvantage for me using it. reminds me of the story:
A guy goes into a store to buy a suit and the clerk gives him one to try on:
Guy, "Hey one sleeve is longer than the other."
Clerk says, "Just shift your shoulders like this and it will look fine, see."
Guy, "But the pantlegs are uneven."
Clerk, "Well, just shift your weight onto one hip and, yes, see it looks fine."
Guy, "But the collar rides low on one side."
Clerk, "Here, hold that side in place with your chin against your chest like you're holding a violin. Voila!"
These accommodations go on for bit and the guy, somewhat exasperated but worn down, buys the suit. He wears it out of the store and down the street with his chin clamped to his chest, and one leg sort of dragging and his shoulder cocked, etc.
Two doctors walk past him and one says, "Oh that poor fellow," and the other says, "Yes, but he sure had a nice looking suit."

  • I want to delete temporary internet files. Notice I did not say clear the cache. That does not work! How can I delete the temp files? Why did you take that feature away? VERY frustrating that you would do that!

I search for how to delete temp int files and keep coming up with the "clear cache" crap. That is not what I searched for. Clear cache does NOT delete the temp files. Why would you take that feature away??

The Windows temporary internet files folder isn't used directly by Firefox. Firefox uses its own cache folder and you can see its current usage on the about:cache page via the location bar.
If anything does show up in the temporary internet files folder then it is likely caused by using MS plugins like the Windows Media Player or Silverlight. You need to clear that folder via IE or the control panel (internet settings).

  • IE has an option to have internet temp files deleted at exit of IE. Does Firefox have the same setting I can select? How do I get to it.

I would like to have Firefox setup delete internet temp files when I close out the browser. Is there a way to do this. IE allows users to select that as an option thru Internet Options - Advanced Tab but i can not find the option on Firefox.

I have followed the above instructions for clearing cache automatically and have found that the cache is not being deleted on exit from Firefox. Clearing the cache manually appears to work (amount of cache goes to zero). However just closing Firefox does not result in the desired outcome. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Firefox version 7.0.1

  • Clear RAM/temp files on system SSD disk

    Hi!
6 months ago I installed OS X 10.8.5 on a faster SSD disk on my Mac Pro from 2008. PhotoShop and other heavy applications became much faster with the new flash drive, initially. Now, it's even slower than before, for some reason. Can I clear RAM cash, temp files or something?
On this 120 GB disk I've only installed the operative system along with applications. It seems to me that I have temporary files taking up space or something because the memory scan shows 76.83% of memory being used for "other" stuff than photos and apps. (se attached images)
I keep all files that I work on, on a different disk. In other words, the SSD disk should not be running out of memory like this - right?
Happy for any help with this!
    Cheers!
    Angela

CS6 uses the boot disk for scratch and can put 100's of GB on there if there is room, and can cause trouble and overload the SSD.
So yes you need to find another location for scratch.
PCIe lets you leave your drive bays as they are and allow you to add two SSDs that will run faster and not impact performance.
I would aim for keeping the boot drive to 60GB free.
I would also want to see the 500GB drive upgraded to 1TB or larger (use the 500GB for backup clone of the system for one thing).
Your 2TB is where I like to see: 50% free area.
You need to make a backup system image of the SSD with CCC and then restore from and booted from the clone and restore back to the SSD at some point soon. Use this SSD for scratch or another seeing you have a free hard drive bay #4 still open until you can get a PCIe Sonnet card (US$150-300).
Install TRIM Enabler 3.0 now and use Onyx after that.
There are more options today but the basic ideas, from MPG:
    http://macperformanceguide.com/OptimizingPhotoshop-Intro.html
    http://macperformanceguide.com/OptimizingPhotoshopCS5-Benchmarks.html
MPG LLoyd's site, is a graphic photographer and edit.
Eventuially a newer even a 2009 Mac Pro and better GPU and more cheaper RAM would make sense if you want to as would 10.8.5.
Or save up for Mac Pro 6,1 or to buy a used Mac Pro 2012 even. Some things you can take with you and re-use.
    Look at your 8800GT.
It has one power cable. There are two thumb screws holding a bracket bar in place. So you can remove or upgrade or clean.
Small, 512MB VRAM, can run hot, can get dust clogged inside and need to be cleaned out. And could fail from heat and weak solder joints (take apart, bake in oven for 15 minutes at 350*F actually works, is documented how to do on Youtube). 10.6.8 does not provide as many options in graphic cards.
It seems like upgrade to 10.8.5 $19 might be worthwhile some point (another reason to 'clone' your system or start fresh with a new SSD for system, so you can if needed continue to boot and run 10.6.8).
