Firefox 3.6.15 Windows 7 not saving passwords

When I enter a user name and a password, just as I did a moment ago to create my login for this forum, the information is not being saved by Firefox. The pop-up bar appears with the three buttons, Remember, Never for this Site and Not Now. However, clicking on Remember does nothing and the bar stays on my screen. If I recall, this bar used to go away after saving the password. I am using the latest version of Firefox (3.6.15) . What is new is this computer and the Windows 7 operating system. I am not really interested in a work-around, but instead why Firefox is not working correctly. I have read numerous articles and posts, but most of them are older and I suspect don't take into account the Windows 7 (with SP1 applied) issue.

I have no passwords stored yet as this is a brand new installation of Firefox, on this brand new computer running Windows 7.
When I try to save a password, nothing happens! That is the problem.
When the "Do you want Firefox to remember the password...." dialog box shows me 3 action buttons, none of them respond to clicking on them. Consequently, the passwords are not being saved.

  • Firefox not saving passwords - Mac Pro

    Hi.
I recently had to reinstall my bootdrive and software. Since then Firefox will not save my passwords. I am using a Mac Pro OS 10.6.8,
Firefox is 33.1.1. I thought it was firefox, so I tried Safari and Chrome - same problem. My preferences are set to "Remember passwords for sites". There are no exceptions listed. There are no saved passwords listed either. Under Privacy > History. "Remember history"
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thank you in advance.
    Brian

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history;Use custom settings for history -> Always use Private Browsing mode).

It is possible that there is a problem with the key3.db file and the logins.json (signons.sqlite) file that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox.
You can rename the key3.db file (key3.db.old) and logins.json file (logins.json.old) and a possible signons.sqlite file (signons.sqlite.old) or move them to another folder to make it possible to undo the action.
You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost.
If that has worked then you can remove the renamed files that are no longer needed.
Otherwise you can rename the files to their previous names (key3.db and logins.json).
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Powerpivot 2012 on Excel 2010 - External Data connections not saving passwords, having to re-enter password EVERYTIME I refresh data

    Hey Guys,
Using Excel 2010 with latest version of Powerpivot 2012 available 11.1.3129.0
For my SQL Server Data connections in Powerpivot I DO NOT have any issue, when clicking refresh it never asks me to enter a password and uses my Windows AD info.
However, for my plethora of other external data connections (Informix, Oracle, Etc...) that I would like to have fluid use within Powerpivot, big problems.
Lets start with Oracle. Below is a screenshot of my connection tab within Powerpivot.
So as you can see, all the details are entered and Allow Saving Password is selected. Now I will close out of Powerpivot and Excel completely and re-open. I will navigate to the Powerpivot tab
and select Powerpivot Window. And then will select to "Refresh All" and am quickly prompted with the "Data Source Credentials" window to re-enter my data source password, again.
What I have already tried. The above method for starters in which I use a connection string under Table Import Wizard --> Others (OLEDB/ODBC)... I found it the least annoying route, although
still have to re-enter password everytime, which is what I hope this forum can help with.
I also have tried doing a direct Oracle connection in Table Import Wizard but also does not eliminate my #1 problem.
I have also created an ODC file to try and use that with stored credentials within the file, also still asks for password each and everytime.
The same thing happens with my other data connections to Informix and DB2. So any help and/or suggestions anyone has would be great. I also cant upload these powerpivots to our powerpivot gallery
on SharePoint 2010, I have a sneaking suspicion it is due to the version of powerpivot I am currently using.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
My company is not using Excel 2013, only 2010. So that is what I have to work with. From what I have read this is a huge hole in the Powerpivot 2012 framework and is extremely frustrating. This seems so basic and simple and like something everyone using
this product would use, and yet it still doesnt work.
Great feedback. Connect is the right place for this feedback on 2010 as well. Thanks!

  • Mail Not Saving Passwords

OK...here's my system config: MacBook Pro, 17" (MacBookPro2,1), OS X 10.4.10 (8R2232). So running the latest version of Mail.
Please note that my Jabber account in iChat is exibiting this exact behavior.
Basically, every time I start mail, it asks me for the password for each of my mail accounts. This has happened before, so at first, I thought nothing of it. Then, when I realized that it was every single time, I looked in prefs and realized that the password field was blank for each account. So, doing what I thought made sense, I went through each account, added the password, and saved it.
Then, the next time I launched mail, it did the sam thing: asked me for the password for each account. I looked, and low and behold, the fields were blank again. So, I added the password to one, saved it, then clicked on it again, and yes, again, it was blank. So basically, Mail is not saving the passwords to my accounts. All other information can be changed and it will save properly.
I went to Keychain Access and did a repair on the Keychain, and it fixed nothing. Is this a Keychain corruption? Do I have to delete my entire Keychain to fix this problem?
    Help!

  • When I downloaded Firefox 4, I lost my norton saved passwords...how do I get that back?

The icon for norton saved passwords along with my passwords disappeared...I want to retreive them...How?

Symantec need to update their Firefox add-ons so that they are compatible with Firefox 4. They have indicated that for Norton 360 they plan to release an update to Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early May - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
I do not know about the time scale for updates for other Norton products. Pending the update by Symantec, if you want to use the Norton add-ons you will need to downgrade to Firefox 3.6.
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • The Mail account is not saving password

Ok so i have done all the things that the Help suggests.
When I want to save a password of my Mail account into password, I click Save to keychain...but it doesn't.
I've checked to make sure the settings for the Keychain are not blocking the 'save' etc.
So when i go to get mail on my different accounts..it constantly asks for the password.
Wierd thing is that the MobileMe one IS saved...this is a new MBA (Jan)
    Any Suggestions...
    Regards
    G

    Hello
Glad to see you are using the Help menu, it's great for 'how to' but perhaps this is a troubleshooting issue.
You say it doesn't save the password in keychain, you can verify this. Open Mail and Keychain Access (found in /Applications/Utilities) have both windows open side by side, take note of the number of items stored in the keychain before you apply my next steps. When mail prompts for a password enter gibberish and you should now see that keychain holds one more item. If this is the case Keychain is working in this respect.
Next verify your keychains, 6 short steps.
Then try Mail again with the correct password.
Interestingly, you said that Mail in other user accounts exhibit the same issue. I suggest creating a new user account and check in a new account then to double check as I can not account for those other accounts already created on your mac.
If the issue in the new user account persists then you should see if you can login using the same password using webmail (Safari or another browser of your choice). If you can login then the password must be correct. If you don't know the URL for the equivalent email account then call your email provider or provide details and I will see if I can find it, google is my friend, and yours
If you can login using a browser then consider these follow-up articles to troubleshooting Mail in general as it is not a password issue.
One question, is this issue isolated to just one email account, do other email accounts work as expected in Mail? If you only have one email account then it's an irrelevant question on my part but I should ask.
This is a very good article. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3276
Use this page to determine if your email settings are correct, http://www.apple.com/support/macosx/mailassistant/ I doubt this is needed as per the symptoms.
Connection Doctor, built into Mail can reveal a lot, use this as a last resort in this case to report where red lights appear. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/10018.html
    Kind Regards

  • Firefox not saving passwords, what maybe blocking this pls

I am using firefox 3.6.18 (because it is compatible with my A/V) and it no longer saves passwords. I suspect something may be blocking this; but have no idea.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
If the latter happens then you have a problem with cookies that are not kept or the file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Websites_report_cookies_are_disabled (Other Solutions)
You Firefox doesn't offer to store password in the Password Manager then check that you aren't running Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode.
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
    * Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"
Some sites like PayPal, Yahoo, Windows Live and bank sites use autocomplete="off" to prevent Firefox from saving and filling the name and the password.
If a site uses autocomplete="off" then look at this article for a bookmarklet to remove that autocomplete attribute and Firefox will offer to store the name and password.

  • Firefox not saving password ? its save password in memory but show me logout , Again and Again i have to click on login button ?

I have Already Click on Remember Password but when i open some sites then i have to again click on login button

'''cor-el''' No offense but why are the end users having to now become programmers ? Shouldn't Mozilla be taking care of these issues that keep coming up ? FF 7 was working ok for the first week then it died & went to the browser heaven neighborhood.. I have lost several add-ons that I use & have lost OpenOffice which was working just fine pre 7 .. It '''Hangs''' constantly although I have the quick fixes for that but don't understand why I should need to keep doing it.. This is starting to be like using IE & quite honestly I am no longer satisfied with FF after 4 update.. Perhaps "Quick Releases" doesn't equate to "Quality Products".. As an end user that's how I want to stay I shouldn't have to keep doing all these little exercises to get this browser to work properly.. I retired from being a systems analyst yrs ago & no longer want to wear that hat or anything like it I just want to hit enter & get a quality response..

  • Not saving password or username. three days ago it did know I have to enter even thou it ask if I would like it saved

Left last Weds for vacation, came home Sun and the username and password saving is gone. Have checked tools security password and it is checked to save.
Need help with restoring this option

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.<br />
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.<br />
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you need to sign in once again.

  • Firefox v3.6.8 will NOT remember passwords. I've doubled check the settings but it will not remember the passwords

New HP laptop, O/S XP-Pro, my previous computer with XP-Pro had no problem remembering passwords but this v of Firefox will not remember the PW's

Thanks Cor-el. It now works on some sites, but there are still some where it doesn't work. The problem appears to be with sites that have more than just the username and password to fill in. Firefox only saves the username and password but not the other fields. It then refuses to fill in any of the fields on the site.
For instance, my bank has four fields on the sign-in page - username, security code, password, and an odd one with a number between 1 and 4 in it. Firefox only saves the username and password and so can't fill in the other fields. Actually it refuses to fill in any of the fields. It seems to not recognise the page at all.
The only way I can see around the problem at the moment is to save any that Firefox will save and use RoboForm to save the others. It means having two programs to do one job. It's messy but at least it works and I can save all my usernames and passwords and have them fill in properly.
I don't know why it is that RoboForm will save the data but Firefox won't. It appears to be something to do with Firefox only saving two fields whereas RoboForm will save any number as required.

  • Not saving passwords uniquely for google sites vs gmail

Installed the latest firefox for the first time on Windows 7. I have private email account that is hosted by google aps (mydomain.com). When I go to mail.mydomain.com, that eventually gets translated to google.com/a/mydomain.com/.... The resulting username/password is saved for www.google.com. When I go to my gmail account, that translates to google.com/accounts. I have an account that has the same username there, but a different password. When I save the username/password, it overwrites the first one. IE explorer recognizes these as 2 different sites and save the username/password as 2 entries, where as firefox save the username/password as 1 entry.
Is there some way to get Firefox to use more of the web address to distinquish username/passwords for different accounts hosted by the same vendor?
    Thank You

  • HT201609 keychain not saving passwords

Two days ago I called apple about an issue with my Iphone 5s. I was instructed to rest my network settings which I did. Now everytime I boot up or restart my machine I am asked to enter the passcode for the router. Additionally keychain isn't saving this password or any of my mail passwords nor my Apple ID password. I tried changing them but keychain still isn't saving the passwords. I've spent over 3 hours on the phone with Apple Tech support to no avail. The senior advisor I spoke to said he's never seen this problem before? So does that mean my problem isn't real or doesn't exist? There MUST be a solution. Please help. Now my Iphone and Macbook aren't working correctly.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ First Aid
There are four checkboxes in the window that opens. Check all of them. if they're not already checked. Close the window.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.
If you use iCloud Keychain, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device.

  • FF not saving passwords....found solution

I have been having the same problem that many others have had dating back to 2012. Firefox (ver 24) quit saving and even lost my passwords. I tried "ALL" the tricks and solutions given by the experts. Not one worked! Here's is what I finally did to solve my problem.
    1. Backup all your bookmarks, found under "show all bookmarks". Save to you desktop so you can find it again.
    2. Find the "Mozilla FireFox" download file from their webpage. Download the appropriate file need for your system.
    3. Remember where you down load this file. You'll need to re-install it as a fresh version. Also, I re-installed the newer version of "Nightly" (27.0) which is in beta and has caused some issues before. But it was the only version of FF that works for me.
    4. As a precaution check to see if you have Microsoft I.E. still installed on you system. You'll need it in the event you can't re-install FF and need to reconnect to the Internet. I didn't and it got scary but all went well when I re-installed Firefox.
    5. Go to the systems "Control Panel" and find "Programs and features" and "uninstall" FireFox.
    6. Reboot just to clear any resident memory issues left behind.
    7. Find the downloaded file for Firefox. Install it. It goes totally back to square one. You loose all your settings.
    8. After install, go to "Show all Bookmarks" to reinstall you save bookmarks. It will ask where the file is so hopefully you remembered where you put it.
    9. You will need to reset all your preferred settings one at a time all over again.
    10. Under "add-ons" you will need to re-install all those over too. I installed "Save Password Editor" for my system and it works well. There are several to chose from, your choice.
So far my system is back to normal but I still needed to visit all the sites that use a password and completely re-enter every one over again and save them. Password editor made it easy. Copying and pasting the "old key and signon files" as suggested elsewhere didn't work. I fact, things got worse not better.
That's my solution and it worked! Good Luck.....

To Cor-el: Your assuming users know how to do that. 90% of the users have no clue of how to incorporate your solution.
Second question...where's the "solved" button? As requested by Computerwhiz.

  • Firefox opens PDF in window, not specified Foxit app

When I click on a link that specifies it's pointing to a PDF, Firefox (ver26.0) opens the PDF in a window rather than using Foxit, which I've specified in the Tools/Options list. In that PDF display window which I should not be getting, I AM presented with an option to open with something else ('Open with different viewer'); when I select that, I'm presented with a window that states 'You have chosen to open' along with the PDF file name, followed by 'What should Firefox do with this file?', which shows already selected 'Open with Foxit...' and 'Do this automatically...' also selected. In other words, despite having (a) selected Foxit in the browser Tools for PDF files AND (b) specifying in the 'open with' window to always use Foxit for such files, neither selected option seems to be in effect.

Usually Firefox follows your settings in Options > Applications but occasionally the file that stores your selections becomes corrupted with additional or conflicting entries. Because the structure of this file is challenging to edit, the typical workaround is simply to rename the file and have Firefox rebuild it. You will need to go back in and select a new action for PDF Files.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
    Restart Firefox.
Your application preferences should be rebuilt from internal defaults, plugin settings, and the Windows registry, and be ready for customization.
    Any improvement?
