Hard drive was the culprit!!! Had 3 bad sectors...diagnosed and fixed by the Apple Genius's!

Last week, Firefox asked me to upgrade, that’s when my troubles began -- Now when open Firefox, I get my default page, and then it freezes, disallows any page changes, the links die, no page scrolling --
The only unusual aspect to my previous Firefox configuration, was that I installed a NO SCRIPT thing to get past the New York Times paywall — and I don’t understand how to un-install that, assuming that’s the issue --

These MacBook Pros drew more power than the power brick could readily supply, and so would only run at top speed when the power brick was supplemented by the battery.
Though the applicable tech note has been removed, it stated:
"If the battery is removed from a MacBook or MacBook Pro, the computer will automatically reduce the processor speed. This prevents the computer from shutting down if it demands more power than the A/C adapter alone can provide." -
Trying to update. When I drag ff icon to apps folder message says replace or stop. Answer replace, then message says can't complete as I don't have permissions. I have full admin rights for imac running 10.5.8. I've reviewed preferences & security settings, FF is set to accept all incoming connections. Not sure what else to check.
If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

I was having massive stability problems myself until I followed some advice I received from the support team.
Even pop up processes like Norton's, McAfee's and Screen savers would kill my conformed audio & confuse things.
Now I too only have a 32 bit OS (Vista Premium Home) but have 3GB RAM - the most you can utilise in 32 bit OS - & two internal HD.
The advice was to save aside my raw media, then completely delete PRE 8 using Windows Add & Delete Programs.
Next too I deleted all the directories it was using & also cleaned up various system deitrous using CS3CLEAN SCRIPT (Google for it)
selecting Level 4 to clean the registry too - downloaded from the Adobe resource of course rather than anyone else.
I then did a DFRAG on both C: & D: drives and a general file cleanup making sure that there was 25GB of swap space on C drive.
This took a day and a bit.
I then reinstalled everything and, this time, when I started a New Project I first of all set up scratch disks for every sort of cache it needs on my D: drive.
It seems that this means its temporary files can be read and written efficiently without compteing with the processes competing for swap space.
I still have problems with sustaining conformed audio but I will make a separate post about that in a minute.
The good news is that the continual crashes and snail-paced user interface responsiveness is cured for now!
Hope others out there can benefit from this post. Perhaps a future edition of PRE could notice at installation that you have an internal D drive & use it. -
I have had firefox since an earlier 2. version and have been able to upgrade as normal. After the installation is done it will not open at all. I have restarted and even uninstalled all previous version .exe and still nothing. I am using windows 7 OS. I am still running 3.6.8 and would love to see the new one running on my laptop.

I keep getting told my browser needs updating and it doesn't work right on some websites. I have had unhappy experiences in the past trying to update Apple OS and Firefox due to compatibility issues. I suppose I could switch to Safari but I have been using Firefox for many years and would prefer to stick with what I know.
Firefox 16.0.2 was the last to work on the old Mac OSX 10.5.x as Firefox 17.0 to current has required OSX 10.6+

Why won't an hp F4480 all-in-one printer install on an imac running mavericks?
I researched this printer before I tried to install it. According to both the Apple and HP websites, the driver for it is already included in Mavericks, and no driver downloads were necessary. I followed the instructions I found on the HP site to install the printer with a USB connection, and the imac picked up the printer as an HP 4400 series, but in spite of that the printer was not listed in the Add menu where it was supposed to be. I tried using the generic printer driver, and it did not work when I tried to send a print job. There was no error message, but the document sinply never made it to the print queue. I had to reset the printing settings to remove the printer since it wasn't working. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?
This is my first Mac, and I just set it up, so I am new to all of this. If there is something I am not understanding, I apologize.
If I go to the app store and check for updates, it shows that no updates are available. There is a list of updates that were installed yesterday, the day I turned it on, but some of them have an x next them. Safari, itunes, ibooks and digital raw have the x, while garageband, pages, numbers and keynote have icons next to them in the list of updates. Does that mean the ones with the x did not really update? Would that somehow affect whether or not the HP driver I need would show up when I install the printer? As far as I can tell the OS is updated. I checked the version in system information and it is 10.9.2. -

Ok, I was hoping it would be simple. Next to try are Plugins, Permissions, and Fonts.
If you have no third party Font managers, or plugins, this might be easier. Then you would repair permissions and check your system fonts.

About uninstalling and reinstalling: I use the CS Cleaner tool after I uninstall to get rid of anything that the uninstall missed before I reinstall.

Firefox hangs when i try to play flash videos from any site but when i run firefox as administrator it works fine. (but Google Chrome, Opera & I.E9 Plays videos without running as administrator.) I am using Windows 7 & Firefox 7.0.1. Please help.A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I have a MAC: 2006, but intel Core Duo; version 10.4.11
I have had some difficulties with my Firefox recently: crashing occasionally, not always loading a page on the first try, saved e-mails or passwords working off and on. I trashed my current version of Firefox (I was told by my tech guys to uninstall it and download a new version, but I couldn't find an uninstall package for mozilla, so I dragged it to the Trash) and I uninstalled flip4MAC, too. I tried to download version 4, but my system could not run it, so I downloaded 3. 16. 12 - it worked really great for a while, but then started to revert to its old problems and my tech guys said I might not have done a complete uninstall- I am a bit of a techno-peasant, so I may have not done it properly. In the meantime, I upgraded my Internet service with Bell and was going to download Snow Leopard- I have Tiger- to see if that helped, but after the upgrade, Mozilla won't even open at all; the window comes up with a tab that says "restore session" and it freezes immediately and then closes with a crash report and an icon in the apps bar called "Crash Reporter." I have copied the incident report and am including it with this email. Bell tech support says it is not their issue, it's mine, which I think is probably correct, but why did it completely crash after the upgrade?
I did go on Mozilla Firefox's website for support through Safari, and tried all the suggestions, but Safari's Mozilla Firefox only displays the search bar and not the address bar, so I used the tip to got ''library/,'' etc to get the crash i.d. I was able to get the i.d., but when I typed in the url with my crash id, I got an error message: File not Found. I tried it more than once, so I copied it from one of the reports sent to you guys and I only hope that you are able to use the crash info I submitted below (after Trouble shooting info).We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.
#Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
#In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
#From that explorer window, double-click on the ''Mozilla'' folder, then double-click on ''Firefox'' and then on ''Crash reports''. Double-click on ''submitted''.

Classic freezes or stalls when started in OS X 10.4.6

The classic environment freezes or stalls when it is started from OS X 10.4.6. In the expanded classic window pane, the smiling mac on the grey background appears, then the "welcome to Mac OS" appears (Mac OS 9.1). The blue progress bar at the top shows only a small sliver of blue on the left, and the progress bar does not advance at all. After many minutes, 10 or 15 so the classic window closes, perhaps a time-out limit, and has not started.
Mac OS X 10.4.6 was just recently installed on our Mac G4 from CD (4 CDs) rather than the OS X DVD, since we only have an internal CD drive. Our Mac is a 733 MHz PowerPC G4 (2.0) with 1 CPU; 512 MB SDRAM, 1 MB L3 cache, and 32 GB of available disk space. Let me know if other details would help with a diagnosis.
I have tried the suggestions given in the other forum articles that talk about the classic envirionment freezing or stalling such as:
blessed the Mac OS 9.1 system folder,
rebuilt the desk top,
removed the OS 9.1 servers folder,
turned off extensions in the classic options,
disconnected all external devices,
searched for the DivX folder, but didn't find it.
Are there other things I should try to permit classic to start from OS X?
Other forum articles seem to indicate that starting up classic in OS X allows older software to run in OS X. Is that true, or am I missing something?
By changing the start up disk to OS 9.1 the Mac will boot up directly to OS 9.1 (the previous OS used for many years) without any problem. Our current work around for older applications is to change the start up disk and boot up directly to OS 9.1.
Your advice and help is appreciated. My goal is to be able to start the classic Mac OS from OS X to run old applications like MS Office. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your reply to my question. I'll try to describe how I start classic in more detail. I have tried starting classic from the top menu bar icon (and from the classic system preferences form), and by trying to directly start an OS 9 application (like Word or Excel).
When I launch classic from the top menu bar icon a new window opens with the "smiling mac" on the grey background followed by the "welcome to Mac OS". At that point nothing else happens for a long time (no progress bar movement, no other forms or windows opening), in excess of 10 to 15 minutes. If the classic form closes after the long wait, the classic system preferences form still has a "start" button, so I presume that classic has not started. OS 9 applications do not start at that point. Should the progress bar move while classic is loading? I'm pretty sure that the blue progress bar in the classic window never moves, even when the classic window closes.
When directly opening an OS 9 application like Word or Excel the classic window opens, but again no change to the progress bar and the classic window stays open for a long time. The OS 9 application does not start.
Does this description help? Let me know if I can provide more details of what happens. I would be glad to try any tests you suggest, and report on the outcome, to help diagnose this problem. I can also try upgrading to OS 9.2.2; can you point me to an easy way for that upgrade? I'll check around the apple web site too.
Since the Mac can be booted up directly to OS 9.1 or OS X (by selecting the startup disk) it seems like there may be something that is interfering with classic being launched from OS X. Perhaps there are other files or preferences that can be disabled or removed in hopes of removing the interference and gettting classic to launch?

I had also recently had Google Chrome installed on my XPro 32-bit operating system via the backdoor when upgrading my Real Player. I thought it might be a conflict with Chrome & Firefox as Chrome wanted to be my default even though I tried very hard to remove that default. I removed Chrome but let it have a toolbar on my Internet Explorer ver 8.0.6001.18702.
I still have the freeze although not as often. Do I have to wait for a Firefox update to fix this like my similar conflict with my AVG 2010 that took several updates on both sides to resolve?Thank you. You forced me to do some housecleaning I didn't really want to do. I usually have 10+ windows open at any one time & crash Firefox so that it will reboot them all when I open up the first window. That's all gone. Ce la guerre...
Only time will tell if my original error comes back. My guess is it won't as this house cleaning did fix another nagging problem I was having with my Google Calendar that insisted I was operating an out of date Firefox version that Google no longer supported. In the future I will remember this "about:config" then "Reset" everything in bold not just >br which brings up everything starting with "br" -- for browser. Basically a wildcard search alphabetically. Yep there were a lot of lines in bold. So I rest everyone.
