Firefox 3.6.4 keeps crashing!

So for the past 5 days, firefox will not stop crashing. Whether I'm on YouTube, Last FM, or just checking my email on Yahoo, Firefox crashes abruptly. I get a little box that pops-up, stating "Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts.
To help us diagnose and fix the problem, you can send us a crash report." When I to send an error report or check the box that says "Tell Mozilla about this crash so they can fix it," I get the response "That was a problem submitting your report." I've done everything suggested, from trouble shooting, to disabling all my plug-ins & extensions, uninstalling & reinstalling, running Firefox through Safe Mode, et cetera, yet despite all this, the crashes persist. I don't want to return to Safari, Google Chrome, or IE, yet I feel as though I have no choice with this obdurate and, frankly, obnoxiously annoying crashes. It's incredibly ironic that Firefox just launched an update which reduces crashes, yet now, more than ever, crashes are most prevalent.

The shockwave plugin was causing crashes for me.
Ironically, adobe's site was crashing too.

• Firefox on my MacBook keeps crashing after about 1 minute use.

For the last few weeks I have not been able to use Firefox.
It keeps crashing about about 1 minute of use. It is not always on the same page that it crashes.
I have tried reinstalling the program and that does not help at all.
Can someone please help me.

Hi,
If it was working but now fails, it could be a problem with your catalog.
I would suggest you try repairing and optimizing it
Load the organizer
From the File menu, select Manage Catalogs - that should open the Catalog Manager.
Select you current catalog and click on the Repair button
When that has finished, click on the Optimize button
When that is done, click on the Cancel button to close the Catalog Manager.
If it crashes before you can get into the Catalog Manager, start the organizer while holding down the shift key - that should go straight into the Catalog Manger - resume at step 3 above.
Good luck

• Firefox, chrome and spotify keep crashing (Flash?)

Hi,
since an update about 2 weeks ago, my browsers and spotify keep on crashing constantly. It happens reproduceable every time i open sites with flash like youtube. Chrome also keeps crashing after entering GMail and both firefox and chrome crash when the hangout windows pops up in G+.
Firefox has no flash-plugin installed! Spotify crashes when a song starts.
I have the following packages installed (related to the problem)
firefox-25.0.1-1
flashplugin 11.2.202.327-1
google-chrome-31.0.1650.63-1
spotify 0.9.4.183-1
I reinstalled all of them, but without change to the problem.
The latest log in /var/log/journal is the system.journal with entries from today, but without information on this problem.

Plotinus wrote:
I tried disabling hardware acceleration and then I tried installing the VLC video plugin, but maybe i did it wrong because it was saying "missing plugin" when i went to youtube. i reinstalled flashplayer and that seemed to help: now i can watch youtube videos without x crashing, but my browser still crashes several times per video -- which is less annoying than x crashing and i'm getting really good at paying attention to how many minutes into a video i am so that restarting will be less painful.
X has been crashing an awful lot since i upgrade my system, though, and it's not just flash, although flash was what i was noticing most. it crashed about 20 times while i was using gimp earlier, for example. (gimp was also upgraded recently). firefox is crashing x really frequently too: even when i installed noscript and additionally blocked gifs, x is crashing when i scroll down a page or just sometimes for no discernable reason.
What's your log look like?

• Firefox update (19.0) keeps crashing when I open anything new or try to refresh. VERY IRRITATING!!!

I updated firefox as was "suggested." I was happy and had NO PROBLEMS with the older version. now whenever I try to open a new tab, a new page, or refresh an old page, this version crashes. REPEATEDLY. It is very frustrating and irritating. I do not like IE and do not want to change over to it, but if your "upgrade" keeps crashing, I don't really have any other alternative.
It also opens 2 tabs when I click on a news story. it crashes when i control c or control v. it crashes when i back space.
I bet I've already sent 30 crash reports since I updated. What the F... are you doing with them???
PLEASE FIX THIS UPDATED VERSION (19.0). At the current time, it is a piece of crap!!

It may also be worth noting that the Beta channel provides Firefox 20 and it has been confirmed that does not crash because of this problem.
* http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/#beta/beta-desktop
The Beta version is secure. It is relatively straightforward if necessary to revert back to the release channel, so there is always a secure downgrade option, and the downgrade is almost certain to work, as once you have been in beta for over 6 weeks you will have already used that version without problems.
The more users who use the Beta channel, the more problems will be picked up and fixed before they even get to the release channel.

• Fresh Firefox install, Adobe Flash keeps crashing.

My Firefox browser keeps having problems with the Adobe Flash plugin as it keeps crashing.
It is a clean FF install with only a few plugins like my password manager and ABP, i have not changed any settings, it did this from the start so there is nothing to go back to.
Some pages suggest disabling hardware acceleration but this to me is just not an option. If you, for example, fullscreen anyhing of a sub-optimal resolution it looks absolutely horrible as there is no smoothing of edges and such. I'd rather have an actual fix for this problem that is not such and awful compromise that should not be made in the first place.
I've switched from Chrome and that never gave me any headaches. But then chrome didn't insist on using flash for Youtube which has HTML5 support these days. Maybe that is a also something that needs looking into.

I have been able to convince youtube to use HTML5 instead of Adobe Crash, you can do that here: https://www.youtube.com/html5.
Have not yet found any limitations with doing this so this should solve the problem on Youtube at least. Ofcourse this is merely walking around the actual problem.

• What is C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugin-container.exe keep crashing computer.grrr

last week pc worked fine...
this week downloaded 3.6.4 firefox and everything now crashing cant use u-tube or or listen again facility...
come on fire fox get your act together...

The Malwarebytes web page is available. I just checked it, so the problem is somewhere on your end.
That Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED) makes rjohnson19s suggestion valid. I did not see that in your initial post.
Did the problem start <u>immediately</u> following your un-install of McAfee and install of Norton?
Did you use the McAfee removal instructions (including the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe))? See: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507
Note that Norton also has a removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
*Is Norton properly configured for Firefox? See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firewalls
*Are you having problems accessing any web sites other than anti-malware sites?
*Have you tried updating Norton? Does it update?
*Try going to the McAfee site and see if you can get in.
*Did you try to download Malwarebytes from another non-infected computer at another location as I suggested?
*You may also need to access that Malwarebytes forum page from another non-infected computer.
*Call a friend, give them the addresses and see if they can access both of the Malwarebytes addresses.
*If they can, then that will confirm what I suspect; that you have a malware infection that will keep you from downloading, installing or updating anti-malware applications.
If this is being caused by malware, you may need help from one of these expert sites (all free, just read their requirements and follow the instructions they give you):

• Mozilla Firefox 20.0.1 keeps crashing for weeks on end

Ever since 2 or 3 updates ago, my Firefox browser has been crashed every 15 minutes. I have sent numerous crash reports to Mozilla, yet they don't take any action whatsoever to fix the problem. I even submitted my email for them to get back in touch with me about the problem.
I know I'm supposed to go to about:crashes and collect the crash records there, but they don't copy over well.

i am having this same problem. started occurring about 3-4 weeks ago. sometimes it happens when i have a bunch of tabs open, some with youtube and some with games. sometimes it happens with only 3-4 tabs open and NO games or videos running. there's no consistency that i can discern. nothing has changed on my pc, and i have good antivirus system running. i'm speculating that it's something that was in one of the recent updates that Mozilla did to Firefox, and having customers bear the brunt of responsibility of proving where the problem is is simply ridiculous. it should be obvious by now that it's something residing in the softwear and Mozilla should fix it ASAP. i may have to resort to using google Chrome at this rate, when for years i've been very happy with Firefox.
please advise. thanks.

• After installing the Current Firefox 30, the browser keeps crashing. How do I fix this? (/questions/999699)

I am using win 7 and get multiple crashes randomly but it can be reliably generated on trying to open http://www.standard.co.uk/news/ .
I dont want to give up on Firefox but I have been trying so many solutions with no success, and I'am just finding it easier to use Opera and Chrome depending on my mood.

You can check for issues caused by plugins and set all plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" page (plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode)
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

• Firefox ver. 21 keeps crashing

Until a couple of months ago, I was using a really old version of Firefox (ver 3.6 I think) until it started getting really slow and I decided to update it to see if it that make any difference. It did. It made it worse. Now not only is Firefox slow, it also crashes at random dozens of times a day no matter which website I'm on or what I'm doing.
I'm using the the most up to date version of Firefox at the moment. To fix my problems I've tried resetting Firefox, deleting plugins, disabling add-ons, completely uninstalling Firefox... nothing works.

I have the same/similar problem with Firefox 24.0
It seems to be crashing randomly.
Herewith the (latest) crash report:

• Ever since installing Firefox 29, the browser keeps crashing. How do I fix this?

About a week ago, my browser shifted to the new version of Firefox, version 29. Ever since then, I have had repeated random crashes multiple times a day and even an occasional blue screen incident. The browser has become so unstable as to be useless. If I'm counting right, this has generated over 50 crash reports since the upgrade; here's the tags for the last five:

I've shifted over to Chrome until this can be resolved, but I don't want to stay there because of the privacy issues.

I uninstalled Firefox. On the reinstall, the .exe interrupted and crashed due to a corrupt file. At this point, it's more headache than I want to deal with. I'm leaving it uninstalled and going with Chrome (now that I've found some suitable means of dealing with the privacy issue) until Firefox comes out with Version 30.
Sorry, guys, but v. 29 was just too horribly buggy an experience for me to want to repeat.

• Newly updated Firefox 3.6.4 keeps crashing when opened

I have recently updated my Firefox to the 3.6.4 version but every time that I try to open it, it loads but freezes and all I can do is close it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled but this has failed to help.
== User Agent ==
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US) AppleWebKit/531.22.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Safari/531.22.7

I had the same problem. Firefox just kept crashing all the time, probably because there is so much Flash content on the web.
I updated all of my plug-ins, I increased the timeout time, neither solution did anything.
So I downgraded to 3.6.3, and voila! Everything's back to normal. Definitely a problem with the upgrade.

• My Firefox 6.0.1 keeps crashing over and over.

Sometimes it will stay open and let me browse for 5 or 10 minutes. Other times it crashes after only a few seconds. It also is VERY SLOW and hangs for a long time before loading pages. This just started out of the blue. HELP!

• All my plugins keep crashing after I try to use them. The two main ones I really want working are silverlight and adobe flash player but for some reason Firefox 9.0.1 keeps crashing them. All plugins are updated

All plugins are updated. This has only started happening recently. Plugins seems to launch for a few seconds (no more than 5) and then crash. Chances are that there is more than a problem with just Silverlight and Flash but they are the only two that I really use.

Perform the suggestions mentioned in the following articles:
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes
* Troubleshooting plugins

Check and tell if its working.
