Firefox 3.6.6 severs my Internet connectivity

My system runs Windows 7. When Firefox 3.6.6 automatically downloads and my system restarts, my Internet connection is severed. I cannot restore it without doing a system-restore to before the new version was installed.
== This happened ==
Just once or twice
== Firefox 3.6.6 downloaded onto my machine.

I have the same problem, but worse. System restore does not work so now I have no internet at all. I was connecting to the internet fine through a wireless network before the 3.6.6 upgrade...now I have no internet connection through the same wireless network. ipconfig shows that I'm not being served a DHCP address and instead am defaulting to 169.254.39.142. I too am using Windows 7, on a Dell Inspiron laptop.

  • Firefox stops loading pages and hoses internet connection for all other apps

Running Firefox 3.6.3; XP sp3; FSecure Client Security 9
After using Firefox for a while - sometimes a few minutes, sometimes a few hours, it will stop loading pages. If I click on a link, nothing happens. The program still responds to key / mouse input, but refuses to load any new pages. Furthermore, it stops all internet connections from my machine, so that IE and Opera stop working. I think it also stops email, but I am not sure.
If I quit Firefox, the process is still running and I have to quit it manually from Task Manager. That solves the problem and internet connections are restored.
I have tried in safe mode, I have tried removing all extensions, I have tried deleting my profile and doing a clean re-install. It's driving me crazy. Any thoughts?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • Safari and Firefox windows are keep blank even internet connection is OK

    Hello,
I have a USB mobile broadband from Three.
For a few months it worked ok for my both iMac and Powerbook.
But since yesterday afternoon, somehow I can't see any web pages, except Google search and search results. I tried both Safari and Firefox, both didn't work. Also I can't receive or send my emails.
I checked internet connection, which must be fine. I see IP address and router address on network preference.
I cleared both browsers cache, and deleted all history, but didn't work.
Strange thing is that I can see Google and get results, but once I click any of search results, page gets just blank.
I'd be very pleased if anyone could solve this problem.

When did this start? Which version of Firefox?
For reference, Firefox 23.0 was released on Tuesday, August 6th, and Firefox 23.0.1 was just released on Friday, August 16th.
Does the address bar work normally in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
If Firefox is running, you can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
If Firefox is not running, hold the Shift key when starting Firefox to get the Safe Mode dialog.
    Any difference?

  • Safari, Firefox, Itunes and Update stop working, internet connection is properly working

    I have a 15 month old MacBook with OS X 10.6.7.
Since two days, Safari and Firefox stop working after browsing through a few (randomly chosen) pages. That is: initially, things seem to work ok (a bit slower maybe), but after a while the page loading progress bar (in blue) gets stuck, and so does the browser. By then Itunes and Software Update don't work either. I get the error message: You are not connected to the internet.
Sometimes, the programs start working again after a while
When going to system preferences / network / Assist me / diagnostics, I get the report that the internet connection is working properly (it is, because I can type this on my other laptop).
Using a tip from the Appel support community, I also tried Assist me / assistant, and set up the network again. Same problems arise.
I have tried a few more things:
    - Clean up the system from additional programs
    - Backed up files and removed them to create extra space
Although I do not know if it is related to teh above problem, we did experience a slower startup of the MacBook in the past few weeks.
Is there anybody who can help us with this?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/explanations.

This my sound too simple, but I just kept clikning on the arrow next to the selected music and it finally "Kicked" in.

  • Firefox 9 beta messed up my Internet connections, Can't be killed in Taskmanager, can't be uninstalled

I installed the Firefox 9 beta and it messed up my Internet settings so no browsers could connect to the Internet. However, my antivirus program can connect to do updates, and I could still use my FTP functions as well. I am using Windows XP SP3 32 bit, with Gigabyte motherboard with built in Ethernet connection connected to RCA cable modem. As well, if I run Firefox, I can't kill the process in Taskmanager. I cannot uninstall Firefox (the uninstaller just freezes and RevoUninstaller can't remove it either. This is the most trouble I had with any software installation in many years.

  • How to dial automatically internet connection in firefox browser at browser startup as in internet explorer

i have ADSL modem broadband connection in which i have to connect to internet by establishing a connection by using following steps
control panel>network connection>create a new connection>connect to internet>set up my connection manually >connect using dial up modem OR connect using a braodband connection in which username and password required
creating this connection i have to provide username and password provided by ISP.
i have to dial internet connection manually after modem set local area connection automatically
i found a solution for internet explorer and by changing setting internet explorer start automatically dialling internet connection as i start the internet explorer.
is their in mozilla firefox an option to automatically dial internet connection as i open firefox browser?
and is their is any solution for as i start my computer internet connections established automatically without opening any browser , if such solution is available ,please tell about it.

The setting you set in IE also affects Firefox. For example, if you set the following, then when Firefox makes a connection request to Windows, Windows is supposed to dial the connection:
Windows Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections or <br>
Internet Explorer Tools menu > Internet Options > Connections
"Dial whenever a network connection is not present"

  • How to uninstall and reinstall if firefox is my only internet connection

getting directed to bad place when accessing internet. Did virus scan, found nothing.
How can I uninstall and reinstall firefox since I have no other internet connection. I DO NOT was to load internet explorer.

Bad redirects can result from a variety of causes, including (1) system level malware, (2) system level settings changes, (3) bad Firefox add-on, (4) Firefox settings changes, (5) other (depending on the nature of the redirect).
Here's what I suggest for tracking it down:
    (1) Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    (2) Then, in Firefox, open the '''Add-ons page''' using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    (3) Check your '''Firefox connection setting''' in the Options dialog here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
The default of "Use system proxy settings" should piggyback on your Windows/IE "LAN" connection settings, but you also can try "No Proxy" to see whether that works better.
    (4) Search for remaining issues with the '''scanning/cleaning tools''' listed in our support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
Are you able to get rid of the unwanted redirect?

  • My 2007 mac pro has a slow internet connection with lion

    Hi:
I've been dealing with a severely slow internet connection with my 2007 mac pro - dual quad core.  I have os 10.7.3.  I use wifi.
Typically, I'll experience difficulty loading websites completely.  Certain sites have a 90% failure rate to load most elements.  Other sites operate quickly from time to time.  Often, a site will simply fail to load at all.  My cable company cannot find anything wrong with my connection and other, newer devices don't have a problem loading sites.  It seems the issue is most likely related to my computer.
Interestingly, I can usually "jump-start" the connection by turning my wifi connection off and on and this will (temporarily) allow me to get an image or video to download.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Firefox has been causing drops in my internet connection lately. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!

OK, I recently wrote to the author of Session Manager about this problem, since I thought I'd narrowed it down to that, but, well, maybe not. I'll copy & paste that conversation here, rather than waste a lot of time writing up something from scratch, especially since I've already wasted an INCREDIBLE amount of time on this problem, and I'm about ready to go berserk...
Hello. I've been using Session Manager for a long time, but lately, it's been causing a problem that's been driving me out of my skull, and I think I've finally pinned it down to SM. lately, when I've tried to load sessions, even with a small number of tabs, it's caused my internet connection to drop, or, at least, to slow down to the point where pages try to load, but finally come back with a message that the connection timed out, or the page had took too long to respond. I have my Windows Vista Home Premium computer running Firefox 11 connected via Ethernet to a wifi router that is connected to a cable modem. I tried disabling pre-fetching, resetting my router to factory settings, I tried a different router, I tried removing the router and connecting directly to the cable modem, i tried a different modem, I tried disabling the Symantec extension, I tried clearing windows' DNS cache, I tried disabling Firefox's DNS cache, I tried disabling Symantec's Firefox extension (I have Norton anti-virus), and I tried disabling my anti-virus & firewall programs (hmmm, did I leave anything out?), but none of that solved the problem. I haven't noticed this behavior with any other program, and Firefox goes along swimmingly otherwise. The reason why I think I've finally pinpointed it as SM is that trying to load a certain 9-tab session caused this problem multiple times, but I eventually got it all loaded correctly, and then I tried restarting it, and Firefox's own built-in feature of loading the tabs and windows if it closed properly the last time worked just fine, and it loaded quite quickly.
So, why might this be happening, and what can I do about it? Do you think it might be a matter of the SM data being corrupted/ If so, how do I get rid of it? I found the Session Manager Export Tool extension and exported my sessions and then tried uninstalling and re-installing SM, but it hadn't gotten rid of the old SM data. Please help, as I consider SM to be a vital part of my Firefox and have come to rely on it, plus I'd like to be able to use my old saved sessions again. Please help ASAP, too, as I've already wasted an unbelievable amount of time on this and I am extremely frustrated and aggravated. Thank you.
    The response I received:
"Session Managwr cannot cause your Internet connection to drop, it simply doesn't have the ability to do that. All it can do is cause Firefox to restore tabs that have been saved. It can cause lots of web pages to load, which could slow down Firefox or possibly your Internet connection (if you have a really slow connection), but it can't drop your Internet connection. The only exception to that that I can think of is if your modem has a web page with a reboot button and you press that, then save the session such that restoring the session causes the reboot button to press, but that is extremely unlikely.
By default Firefox loads tabs one at a time anyway so it's unlikely to slow things down when loading sessions. If Firefox can restore sessions properly, the Session Manager should be able to do so as well, since Session Manager uses Firefox's restore capabilities.
I'd recommend disabling plugins in Firefox and/or other addons and see if that helps. If you can figure out what changed recently that would help narrow things down.
As for Session Manager data. It doesn't store anything other than the sessions. You can delete those if you wish."
    My reply:
Well, I have a cable internet connection, so I don't think speed is the problem there.
Are you sure about Firefox loading only one tab at a time? I know when I load a session, it seems to show several tabs loading at the same time, and I can't remember it ever not being that way.
Frankly, though, I need more specific, targeted help than being told to just start randomly disabling extensions. I've ALREADY wasted an INCREDIBLE amount of time on this and am ALREADY EXTREMELY frustrated and aggravated, and to just go blindly shooting around in the dark at random is only going to throw craploads more wasted time and aggravation onto the already huge pile. I'm at my wit's end here. I can't take much more of this. I need REAL help. I need more specific, targeted advice about what sorts of things I should be looking for, what sorts of things I should be trying, etc. I don't have any patience left to just start flailing around randomly and likely getting nowhere fast.

    Hi,
You can try to verify that '''Don't load tabs until selected''' is enabled in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > '''General'''. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20General%20panel?as=u Options > General]
    [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window Options]
If the problem persists please also check in a [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles new profile]. If the new profile is okay, you can later [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Recovering%20important%20data%20from%20an%20old%20profile?s=profile&r=1&e=sph&as=s copy the needed personal data] from the old profile and start using the new profile. You can then delete or troubleshoot the old profile. Firefox stores your personal data and settings in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder another location (profile folder)] separate from its [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory folders/files]. A new profile would have the default Firefox settings in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window Options] and [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config], and usually would also be empty of '''Extensions''' and themes ('''Appearance''') in '''Tools''' > '''Add-ons''', and their settings. Also, a new profile would have no previous stored website cache/cookies/data/preferences: '''Tools''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History '''Clear Recent History'''].

  • I receive a message that I am unable to connect and check internet connections. I'm able to access thru Explorer. Tried re-downloading Firefox. Thoughts?

Have been using Firefox for a number of years. About two weeks when I attempted to access a bookmark through Mozilla I got an unable to connect. Have tried multiple things including removing and reinstalling several times. Each time I attempt to got to a site I receive a "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.X. I'm offered choices to retry; check network connection or check Firewall or proxy and make sure Firefox is permitted access to the Web.
To the best of my knowledge I made no changes to the access. I am able to reach the internet via internet explorer and can reach the sites that Firefox is denied. I've tried playing with the internet connection settings but to no avail.

I, too, have used Mozilla/Firefox for yrs and like it very much. After some security issues and my security company worked on the issues, Mozilla/Firefox disappeared from my screen. I'm getting the following when I try to download:
    C\user\Lee\App Data\Data\Local\temp
    7zEEEE.temp\set up. exe
    D:users\Lee AppData\Local
    Temp\7zEEEEtemp.\setup.exe
This system could not find the environment option entered.
Might someone be so kind as to help me please?
    Thank you,
    Leeflea.

  • How do I log off my DSL/Firefox Internet connection when it is not in use?

With my old dialup/Firefox Internet connection, I could return to the provider's home screen and click on a button to log off. I do not want to be connected to the Internet 24/7, but want to log off when I am not using the service. The provider says I should unplug the incoming cable, but if I do it this way several times a day, it won't be long before I need a new cable. Please tell me that there is a better way.

  • How can I prevent Firefox from starting in Offline Mode when there is no internet connection?

    Hey!
When I fire up my laptop from standby it takes some time before the wireless internet connection is established. If i am too quick and open Firefox before that happens, it automatically goes into Offline Mode, which I hate a lot.
Is there any way to disable this behaviour?
I have already tried everything mentioned here: [http://superuser.com/questions/208146/can-firefoxs-offline-mode-be-disabled http://superuser.com/questions/208146/can-firefoxs-offline-mode-be-disabled]
Also I found this addon, which unfortunately does not work with Firefox 11: [https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/disable-automatic-offline-mana/ https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/disable-automatic-offline-mana/]

That shouldn't happen in Firefox 4 or later. You should just get a page not found or server not found message.
Can you check the following setting?
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''offline''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Look for '''network.manage-offline-status''' and reset it to False (either double-click or right-click/reset).
    Does that work?

  • How can I install Firefox on a server that does not have an internet connection?

I run Firefox on a server to display graphs for a program. I was able to save, upload and install Firefox version 21 on my server because it used the executable installation program. Versions 22 and 23 use a stub program that goes to the internet and installs the program. My server does not have an internet connection, so the stub program does not work. Can I get a copy of the executable program that installs the program without having an internet connection?

hello pkautzman, the full install packets that are capable of an offline installation are available at https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/.
