Firefox 3.6.9 not starting, no crash dialog, no temporary entry in task manager, no entry in Windows Event Log.

FF won't start, even in safe mode. No crash dialog or file is generated. This was a fresh install of FF 3.6.9, which didn't generate any error messages while installing. There is a crash file that appears to be related to the installation, named "InstallTime20100824153629". The file has just one line of text (all digits): 1283985675 .

Problem solved, although I'm unsure of exact cause, since I did a number of other software installs between succeeding FF installs. But I have 2 most likely suspects. The particular PC I'm using was salvaged from another department in my company after being hit with a virus that was quite severe and the dept admins just decided to replace it. While installing other software, I got an error about the replacement PC having the same name in the company domain as this salvage one, although MS-IE-8 ran OK under that condition (now fixed). Also, while uninstalling FF, I had left a console CD'd to the FF run directory so as to add the safe mode option, and the uninstall program never mentioned that it couldn't delete some FF-related files, it just didn't delete them. It wasn't until I went to manually delete them with Win-Explorer that I got a non-deletable message.
For the duplicate machine name problem, it wouldn't be proper to ask you folks at Mozilla to try to detect it, but for the non-deletable file problem, I would recommend that you provide some type of warning message in the uninstall program when some program files can't be deleted.

    My cluster suddenly went disappear. and tried to restart the cluster service. When trying to restart service this above mention error comes up.
    even i tried to remove the cluster through power-shell still couldn't happen because of cluster service not running.
    Help me please.. thank you.

    Hi,
    Could you confirm which account when you start the cluster service? The Cluster service is a service that requires a domain user account.
    The server cluster Setup program changes the local security policy for this account by granting a set of user rights to the account. Additionally, this account is made a member
    of the local Administrators group.
    If one or more of these user rights are missing, the Cluster service may stop immediately during startup or later, depending on when the Cluster service requires the particular
    user right.
    Hope this helps.

  • My firefox installation is complete on my PC with Win XP, the icons are up, but the program will not start... no process or anything in task manager... any idea what is going on?

    bought a second hand laptop running Windows xp. When I go to download firefox, the installation goes seemingly smooth, but the program will not open. There are no firefox processes showing in task manager when I do this. I just downloaded chrome instead, but it sucks and I want firefox but my computer rejects it. This computer runs every other program I use without a hitch

    thanks chris for the reply back,i have solved the massive problem i have had with MF 3.6.3 it ws COMODO FREE FIREWALL i had a sneaking suspicion all a long it could have been that but was not sure?,my pc had slowed down since installing comodo i am pretty sure of that,there were lags and pauses ect ect on general usage of the pc even though cpu usage was ok?,so maybe if many pc users that have comodo firewall installed they might like to try a change to another firewall and see if it helps,i went back to OUTPOST FREE FIREWALL which i had for ages without ANY problems whatsoever.

  • Firefox 3.5 will not start

    Any time I try to start up firefox, I get this error message:
    Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.0.11 and 1.9.0.11.
    EDIT: Further poking has revealed that GRE refers to Gecko, which is part of xulrunner.  The current version of xulrunner is 1.9.1.
    EDIT 2: Tried reinstalling firefox, and discovered there were conflicts that prevented it from reinstalling, so I forced a reinstall, but now it just hangs.

    As I mentioned before you need to uninstall first firefox, xulrunner and obviously whatever firefox dependencies you have installed,
    after that run
    pacman -Sy firefox xulrunner
    if firefox crashes after loading simply move ~/.mozilla to ~/mozilla
    Hi,
    Same problem here firefox 3.5 will not start and no terminal output.Tried everything on this thread with no luck.
    Firefox will start as root but that is it.After trying everything Seamonkey was installed and  is working OK.
    I am thinking of raising a bug.
    Would be glad of any help thanks,Chris.
    I would try to install firefox from sources ( http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/firefox.html ). If this works, then evidently this is a bug in Arch packaging, otherwise your problem can be related to the firefox sources.
    i hope this will help.
    Arch packaging has some issues no doubt. I my case, each time when i upgrade firefox with pacman I am loosing saved passords. This is not a case when I install firefox from sources.

    == This happened ==
    A few times a week
    == Not sure when it statrted

    Hi.
    When this happens, please press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and see how much RAM and CPU Firefox is using. If they're sky high, then... Well, that kind of issues are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like. Thankfully, 99% of the cases are very easy to solve. However, you do need to diagnose what your exact problem is. Do this:
    #run Firefox in safe-mode to disable all extensions and plugins. If this fixes your issues, be them with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with plugins or extensions. Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix the issues, then read bellow, after this list;
    #update all extensions and plugins in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
    #disable all extensions and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you WANT that plugin to be enabled, so keep your overall number of plugins as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all.
    #enable one extension at a time. Again, be certain that you WANT that extension to be enabled, so keep your overall number of extensions as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic extension, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all your extensions (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all;
    #you're done! You've fixed your problems with problematic add-ons.
    Ok, if disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to bring Firefox's CPU and RAM usage to good levels, then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Do as follows:
    #do a virus/malware check on your computer. If this doesn't fix it, proceed;
    #disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in windows, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing "msconfig" (without the commas) and pressing enter. Now, under the "Startup" tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect. If you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix you issues with Firefox, proceed;
    #check your firewall/antivirus/security suite for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be conflicting with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable to see whether or not that's true. As long as you don't browse the web with your antivirus completely off and your firewall completely turned off, there should be no problems. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
    #check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem (after all, it's the last item on the list), it's remotely possible. If this doesn't do it, I'm out of ideas. Except make sure you've followed my instructions correctly.

  • Firefox 3.6.3 fails to close completely, leaving an open instance in Task Manager.

    Firefox 3.6.3 fails to close itself, leaving an open instance in Task Manager of Windows 7 x64 each time the browser is closed. The instance needs to be closed manually in order to successfully start new browser session. This seems to happen in OEM version of Windows 77. There are no issues with a retail version of the OS. • Firefox not starting after crash, GLib-CRITICAL error

    This happened to me more than once. Firefox crashes and then it will not start again. When started from the terminal I get the following error message (even when just checking the version or running in safe mode):

    Mozilla Firefox 37.0.1
    The problem is fixed when I log out and log in from my account. Maybe there is another option to reset firefox without logging out?
    I already searched for the problem and there are some bug reports:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=672671 (marked as resolved, apparently because they are about different bugs with the same error message)

    In addition the Photoshop Organiser crashes frequently and If I edit a picture and save it to the stack, it does not appear in the catalogue so I have to manually get the picture and stack it with the original. I assume that these problems are related to the above problem.
    My original installation co-existed with Version 3 so I uninstalled this old version then uninstaled and reinstalled version 12. This made no difference to the problem.
    Any ideas on this problem?

    Thanks for that suggestion Michel.
    Killing the AutoAnalyzer using these instructions (http://barbarabrundage.com/2013/10/31/the-elements-12-auto-analyzer-adobes-evil-undead/doe s ) does seem to have solved the problem of edited pictures not being saved to the stack - although I have noticed that since disabling the autoanalyzer, when saving a file, the editor almost always now does not display the option window which allows you to choose if you want to save with the stack etc. It usually only shows the JPEG quality selector window.
    Its too early for me to say if making this change has reduced the frequency of crashes but it certainly has not solved the problem with the Watched Folders so Im still looking for a solution to this one.

    Hi,
    After system crash SAP is not starting normally. When running startsap under SIDadm puts out: /usr/sap/TST/SYS/exe/run/startdb: Terminateing With error code 12
    startdb.log shows that:
    /oracle/TST/102_64/bin/sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libsqlplus.so: cannot open shares object file: No such file or directory
    I have checked - file and directory are present.
    However - when manually starting DB under oraSID and then logging in as SIDadm and starting SAP - everything starts normally.
    (Allthough SID is has been changed before - system also worked normally after SID change) I have checked userrights and groups , also profile - everything seems to be normal. Any ideas?

  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but it will not start up upon clicking

    Firefox will not start up. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, done a system restore, and nothing works. I can use Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and it works fine, but all of my saved information on Firefox is not available.

    Many thanks.
    That suggests that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
    So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
    First we'll need to change some view settings.
    In your Start menu, open Computer.
    In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
    In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
    Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
    If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
    What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)
