Firefox 3.6 or 4.0 will not install

Greetings, I am unable to install either 3.6 or 4.0
After downloading 4.0, and turning off my virus protection and closing all programs...
I then begin installation in Administrator mode and during setup I am presented with this message:
'''Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous uninstall of firefox. Do you want to reboot now?'''
After rebooting and attempting to once again install Firefox, I am again presented with the same message.
I am using XP Pro and my primary browser is "Flock"

This began when an auto update was downloaded to my pc late August. I do use thunderbird 6.02 and that is up to date. That I closed before Firefox update attempt. Task mnager in windows 7 says no programs are running. Current version in firefox is 6.0 with update available when i go to help about firefox.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

* Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.

Firefox home will not install on my iPhone

Firefox Home shows up as "purchased" in my apps listings for/on my iPhone 3G but will not install on my phone either through iTunes syncing or through my iPhone apps application. What is wrong? Adobe Shockwave Flash needs to install plugins for Firefox, and Flash needs to do that with Firefox closed. So close Firefox and run the Flash installer.

Thanks for your response. I have previously reviewed this. The only potential problem it seems to resolve is having 2 versions of Shockwave installed. I only have one. The only thing I can think of to do is just uninstall the one version and see if it will trigger an installation. When I go to the Flash install site, I agree to the terms and get the next screen that says download will start. I never get a message asking if it's ok to run or anything. No matter where I look for a download for Flash I wind up at the same place with the same problem. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). Updater will not install updates from Firefox

Windows XP, click on Help, About Firefox, Check for updates. They download. Then I click on Apply update. A window appears saying "updater.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." Then I may choose whether to send the error report.
There has been no update. It will not install.
Why does this happen? The only way I can get updates from Firefox is to go to Mozilla.com and download.
I tried the troubleshooting tips in Firefox Help and nothing worked.

I should have explained that this has been going on for a long time. When I first installed Firefox several years ago their updates installed fine.
Then they no longer would install, starting in July 2007 when they downloaded Firefox 2.0.0.4. After they installed that, Firefox would not even open, and I got an error message. I had to uninstall and reinstall.
I figured out over time that I would have to go to their website and download the updates myself, each time they announced that an update needed to be installed. It would then install fine. And Firefox would open as it should. This has been the case for a long time.
So it does work out doing it this way. It is something of a nuisance, and it would be nice if the updates worked smoothly and automatically, as they used to.
I thought this might be some problem others users have had and would know how to fix it.

The toolbar for my webroot account will not install on firefox for some reason. It remembers my accounts and passwords along with the sign in pages of my accounts.

I had this same issue. Then I created a new firefox profile and installed the google toolbar again over this new profile, and the problem was solved.

Firefox will not install addons

After getting a new computer and installing Firefox 12 on it, Firefox will not install addons. The only way that I can get it to install anything is by downloading the .xpi file and manually installing it. Unfortunately, I cannot download the .xpi file to one of the addons that I need to do my work, so this is a problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
