Firefox 3 and iWeb canvas

Hello,
anyone know if there is a fix/workaround for the <canvas> problem with Firefox 3 (picture frames and shadows not shown) like the one for the photo album?
Thanks.

This was posted on MacWorld yesterday. I downloaded the installer script and updated iWeb, then I re-published my sites. The photo pages now work in FireFox 3.x +with the exception+ of those pages that have shadows (including photo page themes that have shadowing built into them, such as 'comic book'). To get all of my photo pages to work I had to remove shadowing and pick a different border, and I converted my 'comic book' themed pages to something more generic. This is an issue that Apple needs to address in an update to iWeb. Hopefully there will be an 'official' fix from Apple soon.

Hi I just use
http://wordpress.com/
its a free account and just link to it with an Iweb page,
word press works on all browsers.
Iweb pages have lots of issues on other browsers, stay away from iweb photo slide shows, and reflections on your iweb pages. if the people you are trying to show your site to, have firefox and e7 or e8, it gets kind of weird.
hope it helps

• Using Dreamweaver and iWeb together

Can you publish a website made in Dreamweaver through iWeb?

iWeb cannot open or import html files.
You can re-create the webpages in iWeb by copy/paste text and images to the iWeb canvas.
You can also drag & drop the text. iWeb will add a texbox with the text and retains the styling of the text.
Try it.

• The "Audio Visualization 2D and 3D canvas " part of the audio api slide show is only showing the background part of the 3d image

There seams to be a problem with the Audio Data API slide show on the 10th page (Audio Visualization 2D and 3D <canvas> at http://videos.mozilla.org/serv/blizzard/audio-slideshow/#slide10). or maybe just on my computer. the problem is it only shows the background of the canvas. It still looks like its a moving image but it doesn't show the objects. So haw do i fix this?

Works for me with the current nightly build.
Do the other slides work?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

I am on windows 7 and I upgraded to the newest verison of firefox and now it will not open. I have removed firefox completely and uploaded it again and that did not work. I then made sure it could get through my firewall and that did not work. So my latest attempt I removed firefox 10 again and uploaded the beta version hoping that would do it and once again nothing. It will not open at all. Please help - is there a live chat or a number to talk to someone at Firefox?

I think when uninstalling you may also have to choose (tick) to delete the preferences and other personal data like the bookmarks, stored passwords etc. to erase completely. If you are installing afresh, please try right-clicking on the file and Run as administrator to install. And when uninstalling, please also make sure choose to delete all data and also manually delete any Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox or Firefox from %appdata%, %localappdata% and %programfiles%. You can open a location by typing for eg. %appdata% in the Run box (Windows key + R). You may also have to check the VirtualStore folder in %localappdata%. Files in the VirtualStore can be problematic. I think a clean installation may help.

For uninstalling Firefox 4 see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+Firefox
Make sure you do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data" as that option will delete all of your bookmarks, passwords etc.
You can re-install Firefox 3.6.15 from http://www.mozilla.com though judging by your user agent string you still have 3.6.15 installed.

• Firefox opens, and preview shows when hover on the task bar link, but the window will not maximize, or show up at any size on my screen (Windows 7) Help?!

I am running Windows 7 and just updated Firefox to the 7.0 version. I can open Firefox, in the sense that I can run the application. I can see that it is open because the link shows up on my task bar, and when I hover over it I can see the thumbnail preview - which, incidentally says "You're almost there!"; but I can not open the window! I have tried clicking once on the task bar link, and once again (just in case I was clicking to minimize instead of maximize). I have tried double clicking the shortcuts on my desktop, then the one in my program files, as well as the one in my start menu, and the static one pinned to my task bar. I have tried accessing Firefox from every path available on my computer and I can open it every time, but *never* not even once have I been able to view it on my screen. I can't understand what would cause this and maybe I'm just an idiot but can anybody help me... please? Oh, and I don't know if it makes any difference, but I did try restoring 6.0 and I re installed 7.0 again, all to the same end... Many thanks to anyone willing to help me fix this!

-> Run as Administrator
-> right-click Firefox icon and choose Properties
* go to Compatibility tab
* click Use Resolution 640x480 pixels
* click OK and start Firefox
-> Firefox will now start but you should be able to change the size of the window.
* Close Firefox and now Uncheck the 640x480 resolution
* Start Firefox again and now all should be fine
Check and tell if its working.

• Firefox gave a popup window that said "Firefox could not successfully update. You can do it manually" or something like that. I go to the Firefox website and there is no link withing this site to download manually. Is this a spooffing site??

I wanted my Avast! updates to be current. I have not run Avast! again. I just ran it about 1:30 AM local time. I got up from sleeping and just restarted my computer after looking at the summary from Avast! All I did was close Avast! and click "Restart" and re-entered my computer and opened 2 Firefox browsers and 2 Explorer browsers. One of the Firefox browsers said it needed to update which it attempted but then a window popped up that said Firefox could not update and I should do it manually. The other Firefox browser says "Download Firefox for your Android (I don't have Android) and also said "Restore Previous Session" which I will attempt right now.

What is difference between Firefox OS and Android or iOS?

kingofhawks, Firefox os is open source, offers the ability of do not track and has many great customization options. It is currently however targeted at 3rd world countries and/ or underdeveloped countries so it isn't recommended to use this if you're use to using Android and iOS at this moment. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thanks

• Firefox 13 and 14 will not install properly on my windows 7 starter. Also I cannot get the Scrapbook addon to work. Can you tell me why ?

I have tried to install Firefox 13 and 14 on my netbook, running a Windows 7 starter OS. The installation begins to go smoothly from the setup.exe file; but after the installation seems complete, and I press the 'Open Firefox' button the firefox programme can be seen to start opening because it accumulates about 50mb of private bytes RAM on the windows task manager or on the 'process explorer' utility program by sysinternals. However the firefox screen/window never opens up and so firefox does not seem to be properly installed. Also I have had problems with getting the Scrapbook" addon to install properly. I have another computer, a laptop, running XP Home, and I can get the Firefox 13 or 14 to install but it is on this other computer that I cannot get the 'Scrapook' addon to install properly; There is no notice on the Addon page saying the 'Scrapbook' addon does not work on Firefox 13 or 14, and the addon does install, but not properly, so it does not work.
I have the old Firefox setup.exe files, and so I have managed to install an old version, firefox 3 or 4, on an external hard drive. I have successfully got this old firefox to work on the XP Home laptop from an external hard drive, and can successfully use the 'Scrapbook' addon in this way.
I cannot understand why I have problems with Firefox 13 or 14. I think I first noticed the problem about 'Scrapbook' with Firefox 12.

It seems your Mozilla installation is broken. Try the following steps to fully uninstall Mozilla Firefox:
1. Uninstall Firefox as you would normally do.
2. Open a command prompt as administrator.
3. By using the cd and rd command, remove Firefox AppData and Roaming folders, for example:
C:\Users\USERNAME> cd AppData
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData> cd Local
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local> cd Mozilla
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla> rd /s Firefox
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla\*.* - Are you sure? (y/n) y
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla> cd ..
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local> cd ..
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\> cd Roaming
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming> cd Mozilla
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla> rd /s Firefox
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\*.* - Are you sure (y/n) y
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla > exit
Remember to press Enter each time.
4. After that, open a hard disk clean-up tool (such as CCleaner or Windows built-in) and remove all temporary files from your computer.
5. Restart your computer. Download again the Firefox package from Mozilla official servers and try to install Firefox. If the problem persists maybe your computer has a problem or is infected with viruses.
About the Scrapbook add-on, I could get it to work. It has no icon when docked to the toolbar, but you can anyway open it. Right-click a button on the toolbar, click Customize... find the Scrapbook icon, drag it to the bookmarks bar so you can see the icon and click on it to open it. Whenever you need to save a page, right-click that page and choose Save page.

• Swf link not working in Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer but works in Safari

Hi,
I'm sorry but Im a real newbie and really need help!!!
On the homepage of my website I have put a swf file that I linked to another page in my website through the div a href link and it displays great on safari and links, however in other browsers, when i try to click on it, it comes up with the link at the bottom of the browser (where it sometimes says Done), however it doesnt actually link, it jsut stays on the homepage.
Here is the coding i put in:

                </object>
                </noscript>
              </a>
              </p>
            </div>
Could someone please tell me where I am going wrong?
I would REALLY appreciate it.
Thank you in advance!!

I'm doing it for a client and they dont want it put up on the server yet, I wish I could put it up bc I have no idea what I'm doing!
Basically I wanted a swf file from Flash to display a range of products (I have turned all the products into buttons) and then I put coding into all the buttons to on release getURL which work in the swf file, however when I put the swf file into dreamweaver, the buttons worked in hover state, but the action scripting didn't work to link the swf file to another page in the website (the index in Our_brands folder).
So i decided to make it link to the index.html in Our_brands folder from wrapping the swf box in a div tag and linking the div tag <a href="Our_brands/index.html"> which links it great in Safari but wont link in Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer.
Does that make any sense?
Sorry if it doesn't.
Thanks for the quick reply as well!!!

Firefox has suddenly gone wrong. I was successfully running both Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. My laptop is new and has plenty of RAM and HDD. I auto-accept upgrades including the most recent Firefox upgrade and the suggested upgrade to Adobe Flash 10.1. But after this, Firefox stopped working and does not work when I re-load Firefox 3.6. Also IE8 now works very slowly and does not locate major websites like Microsoft without a 'can't find the website message' and having to pressing Return a second time. When I do get to the Mozilla website and click on the button to try to download Firefox 3.6.6, I get this message "Oops! Internet Explorer could not find mozilla3.snt.utwente.nl". Can you help with what has gone wrong? As it stands, I can't use Firefox at all. Note: because Firefox did not work after the upgrade, I've downloaded the IE8 version of the Adobe Flash 10.1. What I really want is to be able to use both Firefox and IE8. But is this possible if they use different versions of Adobe Flash?

I have been having the same problem as the original poster. After upgrading to Ffx 3.6.6, the program asks you to upgrade to Flash Player Plugin 10.1. I download and installed 10.1 only to find videos weren't loading.
In my case, the problem is the previous installation of Flash Player (9.0.47) was somehow messing things up. To fix this, because I already had Flash plugin 10.1 installed I had to uninstall 10.1 using the uninstaller from adobe and then manually remove any files related the old flash player plugin 9.0.47
Here is a run-down of my process:
0. To check if you have a previous installation of the Flash Plugin lurking around, in Firefox go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins (tab). At this point you may seen both Flash plugins.
1. Proceed to uninstall Flash Plugin 10.1. Adobe provides an uninstaller here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
( you have to make sure you have nothing running when you execute the installer).
2. On my Mac (sorry I don't know what it is in Windows) I searched the hard drive for any files/folders with "Shockwave". I found a folder called "Shockwave 10". It wasn't removed by Adobe's uninstaller. For safety I deleted it and then emptied the trash.
3. I then went to My HD -> Library -> Internet Plugins.
Remove the file and folder named "Flash player.old"
4. Restarted; ran the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 installer. Restarted again.
5. Opened up ffx and double checked the plugins list (see step 1). Version 10.1 is installed and available. Went to problem sites to test it out and Success!
Hope this helps.

• I can not delete my history and adding new bookmarks. Upgrading to later Firefox versions and/or re-installing didn't help. The address bar still shows the web addresses of old and whenever I make new bookmarks, it's always gone as if it was never made.

I can not delete my history and adding new bookmarks.
Upgrading to later Firefox versions and/or re-installing didn't rectify it either.
The address bar still shows the web addresses of old and whenever I make new bookmarks, it's always gone as if it was never made.
Also, I have noticed that every once in awhile you can not close tabs you've opened, either by pushing on the X button and/or clicking on the mouse to close it. Although closing the window and opening it again (without closing the Firefox application) seemed to rectify the problem in the short term, it's becoming quite annoying.
== This happened ==

I think I have a solution.
First, download the add-on SQManager. This should be included with FireFox, it is really good.
Look for the file moz_hosts in the folder places.sqlite.
Don't delete the file, just delete the information in the file. My file has over 3600 websites, which go back years!! I did not know they were there, but I was frustrated about not being able to get rid of them. They popped up every time I used the address bar. Clearing my history would not get rid of them.
This is where they are stored!! I found that by deleting the pesky web site from moz_hosts, it does not appear in my address bar anymore!!!
I think that if I just delete all the websites in moz_hosts....
Wa-la...History Gone!!!
As long as you don't delete the file, just empty it, FireFox won't know the difference. It will just keep adding websites to it until you empty it again.
Why running "clear recent history" doesn't do this, I don't know. You are doing manually what "clear recent history" is not doing.
Please tell me if you see any flaw in this.
I think it's the solution we've all been looking for!

• How do I block an ad that opens up a new Firefox window and keeps telling me my system performance is poor? I can't even capture the link.

This particular ad, supposedly from a Windows Certified Partner, opens in a second Firefox window and keeps flashing the message that my System Performance is Poor, wanting me to click on their ad and let them do whatever nasty things they want to my system. I have not been able to capture the path but next time it comes up, I will write down all that I can see.
If I have closed my main Firefox screen first, and then close out this ad, the next time I open Firefox, the ad opens and all my standard tabs are gone, requiring me to reopen each one seperately (Facebook, Google, etc).

Just to address the last point: check your History menu to see whether you have the Restore Previous Session option and use that if you can. If that is grayed out or doesn't restore everything, check the Recently Closed Windows and Recently Closed Tabs lists for other pages.
The unwanted window may be generated by an add-on. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Any improvement?
Here are some other things to check:
(1) user.js file that changes Firefox startup behavior and overrides your preferences. This article describes how to track that down and delete it if you have one: How to fix preferences that won't save.
(2) Possible hijacked shortcut. Check the "target" of the desktop icon you use to start Firefox to see whether it lists the unwanted page. To do that:
right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab
For 64-bit Windows 7, the Target should be no more and no less than this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
(3) Possible undisclosed bundle items. If you have installed any free software recently, check your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a program for surprises. If you click the "Installed on" column head to group by date, it is easier to spot bundled junk. Remove everything suspicious or unrecognized.
(4) Supplemental clean up scans. Our support article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.
Hopefully that cures it.
