Firefox 3 vs. Minefield 3 for Solaris 10

I installed the Minefield 3 build for Solaris 10 from
http://releases.mozilla.com/sun/firefox-3.0-en-US-solaris-10-fcs-sparc-pkg.bz2
(see http://blogs.sun.com/pengyang/entry/enjoy_firefox_3_0_on)
I seems to work fairly well, but some FX 3 add-ons don't quite work on it (like Colorfultabs). I have Sol 10 11/06 sparc.
Now there is a Firefox 3 build for Solaris 10 on the mozilla ftp site, contributed by
the Sun Administrators division of the Student Systems Administrators program
at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST). (?!? - What the...)
Some questions:
1) Are both packages basically the same, or is Minefield a post-Firefox 3 beta release? Is it based on the beta nightly builds, and thus not fully tested?
2) Is the new Firefox 3 Solaris 10 build the REAL FX 3 release, fully tested and stable?
3) Has anyone compared these two packages with each other on Solaris 10? Any opinions on relative stability/functionality?
Thank you...

Check the web site for Colorfultabs to see if they have an updated version for FF3. If not then there are some web pages that describe how to trick Firefox into running them if you decide to go that route.

  • Is Firefox x64 (Minefield) for Windows compatible with the x64 Java 7 Beta?

Firefox x64 (Minefield) on Windows 7 crashes with the Beta x64 Java 7 (it works on 64 bit windows, and the 32 bit java 7 works in 32 bit firefox). It works fine with any newer version of Java 6 x64 however. Is this a firefox or Java bug?

I was having this problem myself until just recently.
However, it works for me with the following:
    Nightly x64 6.0a1 builddate 05222011 and
    Java 7 x64 b143
Earlier versions causes crashes, so try updating to the latest JRE7 and the latest Nightly.

  • Flash Player for Solaris - And J2SE 6.0 for Solaris

    Hello,
The current version of flash player for Solaris is 7.0.67.0. For Windows it is 9.0.45.0. What gives? Is Adobe just giving up on Solaris? Now, in Firefox and Mozilla for Solaris, imbedded videos on web pages such as www.nytimes.com will not display, apparently due to the ancient version of Flash for Solaris.
Also, does anyone know when and the new java runtime j2se 6.0 will be released as a patch for Solaris 10? The patches are 118666 and 118667.
    Thank you.....

From Adobe Lans web site above:
Adobe Labs is currently featuring prerelease versions of the Flash Player 9 Update software. This update includes enhancements and bug fixes for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux versions of Flash Player 9. Please see the release notes for more information regarding this prerelease technology. The prerelease program for Flash Player 9 for Solaris is closed at this time, and Solaris versions of Flash Player 9 will be available shortly from Adobe.com.

  • Firefox 17.0.2 for Solaris 10 (sparc) (contrib) not available

There is a security finding on Firefox 17.0.1 (CVE-2013-0759), and we need to install Firefox 17.0.2 for Solaris 10/sparc. We have to use the 17.x series. For some reason the "ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/17.0.2esr/contrib/" directory is empty.

Has there been any additional info from Oracle as to when they might update Firefox for Solaris 10 SPARC beyond 10.0.7 ESR (''aka Patch ID #145080-12'')? I have not been able to find the referenced package for 10.0.12 ESR within MOS. Realistically, I really need 17.0.5 ESR or later -- the contributed versions are not an option due to their questionable source (''i.e., Beijing'').

  • Java 1.8.0_31 for Solaris Sparc missing Firefox plugin

Until now I didn't realize that Oracle planned to deprecate (Oracle) Solaris in favor of Linux.
Since updates to Java 7 will be ending in April 2015, I thought it would be a good idea to migrate to Java 8.  I installed Java 1.8.0_31 on our Solaris 10 server and then tried to configure the Java plugin for Firefox.  Low and behold!  It is no longer supplied with the Java installation.  Apparently, when Oracle removed 32-bit support for java in Solaris, they removed Java Web Start (javaws.jar) and the Firefox plugin (libnpjp2.so) with it.  As I searched the web in vain for a solution, I recall that additional java functionality has been removed from the Java 8 build for Solaris as well, but I can't recall what they are right now.
Of course, Linux remains fully supported!!  Too bad we invested in an all-Oracle solution for our aging Oracle Forms applications.  I guess now we need to stay on Java 7 until we can migrate off the high performance (Oracle) Solaris dinosaur to a better supported Linux platform.  Thanks Oracle for providing no risk solutions.
I've submitted a ticket to Oracle Support regarding how to get past this issue, but I thought I'd throw it out here too:
How can I run a java app (like Oracle Forms) using Firefox on Solaris without a Java plugin?

Obviously Sun (excuse me, Oracle) does not intend to support the solaris-10/sparc/firefox-3.6 combination. Firefox 3.6 requires the NPAPI and/or NPRuntime interfaces to java, but oracle does not provide the new "libnpjp2.so" java plugin with the jre-6u18-sparc-solaris java download.
A search at www.oracle.com does not turn up any support announcement about this. You have to learn it the hard way. :(
If you want to continue to use sparc-solaris, downgrade to firefox-3.5 so you can use the old libjavaplugin_oji.so module. Otherwise run Linux or Mac OS X to stay in the unix camp.

  • Firefox for solaris 9

    Hello
I would like to install a modern web browser like firefox on Solaris 9 Sparc servers.
These servers run Oracle and other mission critical applications.
Is there a way to install firefox on Solaris 9 Sparc?
Where from can I download the browser?
Netscape is already installed by its not very user friendly.
If I install this browser, how sure can I be that there won't be any problems whatsoever with the production server.
    Thanks

You can install Firefox 2.x on Solaris 9 without any problems. It should not affect your production environment.
IIRC the Firefox 3.x browser requires some libraries which are not available on Solaris 9, which is why you are stuck with Firefox 2.x.
Sunfreeware have fairly recent firefox packages:
    http://www.sunfreeware.com/mozilla.html
The Solaris 8 packages works on Solaris 9.

  • Lightning 1.0 build for the Thunderbird 3b4 build for Solaris 10?

I use Thunderbird as my primary email client because quite frankly the version of Evolution in Solaris 10 is awful.
I posted to the mozilla.support.calendar list over in google groups some months ago asking what happened to the Solaris builds of Lightning
    http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.support.calendar/browse_thread/thread/12e27450b2cc67e0/7877dde2ace2ebf2
Essentially they said Sun used to provide servers to build Lightning on and now they don't. What does it take to get Sun to provide those again?
Evolution 1.46 is atrocious. 1999 called and wants there email client back....
The latest build for Solaris is Lightning 0.9. Of course the project itself has moved on to 1.0+. 0.9 still works with Thunderbird 2. Thunderbird 3 while still in beta is already so much better than Thunderbird 2, but it requires Lightning 1.0 builds. You can download Sun contributed builds of Thunderbird and Firefox from the mozilla releases site. Why not build recent Lightning builds so people can actually use their Sun calendar with the Sun contributed version of Thunderbird?

A similar question was asked w.r.t. 64-bit Linux builds:
"Dan, regarding 64bit nightlys, this is somewhat dependant on Thunderbird itself having 64 bit nightlys. We will surely have contrib builds with 64 bits for releases though."
The latest build for Solaris is Lightning 0.9. Of course the project itself has moved on to 1.0+. The project has not hit 1.0 release (or beta) yet.

  • Firefox 29 crashes on Solaris 10

I recently downloaded both the "pkg" and "tar" packages for Firefox 29 for Solaris 10 from "http://download-origin.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/29.0/contrib/". On two different Solaris 10 servers after either install, I find that the executable (/opt/sfw/bin/firefox) causes a Segmentation Fault and does not start a browser (same for -safe-mode). I also found that if I remove the user's profiles.ini file in .mozilla/firefox, that the crash does not occur and a browser starts (also starts in -safe-mode). In the browser I have tried running about:crashes and did not get any results. I also searched for Crash Report directories and found none. The Solaris 10 servers do not have Internet access, so what do I need to provide to assist in working this issue? Thank you.

not to say you're having the same problem, but we've noticed that (with) 1.6 we needed to change the mx (we also did ms but most likely didn't need to).
it seemed to be picking up all 128 threads on our T series servers and attempting to use rather larger than we'd hoped for default settings otherwise...maybe it determines the mx setting based on the number of threads

  • How do you get Firefox to ask for proxy username password in a pop up window?

Previously, about a month ago a pop up message would appear when I would connect to my University's wired network proxy to ask me for my password. In Chormium Browser the following message pops up when I log in http://tinypic.com/r/i77lhi/8. A similar thing used to happen in Firefox, but doesn't anymore. I know it is not my proxy settings that are incorrect as I have double checked them and it is only in Firefox that it fails. I have Firefox set to use system proxy settings and this is the setting that is dictated by the University. It is very possible that I changed a setting while tinkering that prevents such message boxes from appearing or uses an old username and password automatically, but I haven't been able to find anything like this.
Help would be greatly appreciated! I am completely stuck on this.
    Thanks

I have two inconviniences with fire fox..
1)when i want to go another from a tab,it shows firefox not responding, for a while then opens that tab!this is embarrassing me a lot by taking so much time!!why it happens?
    2) every time when adobe flash player is updated, it shows flash player can't be installed and it crashes! it says 'disable real player' though i never installed real player!!
plz Let me know why it happens to me????

    1. Update firefox to the latest version 2. and disable real player in menu->addons->plugins.
Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox 13 are most probably caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and/or a malfunctioning Real Player browser plugin.
In order to remedy the problem, please perform the steps mentioned in these Knowledge Base articles:
[[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems]]
    [[Flash 11.3 crashes]]
[[Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox]]

Please tell us if this helped!
Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

I can't download Oracle 8.1.7 Enterprise Edition for Solaris 32 bit. After filling out the form with the questions...I click on the actual link, but the box never pops up. The status bar on my Internet Explorer slowly increases, but never allows me to download. It just hangs. It seems you are deploying a very big application. Try to deploy this application with following command
    j2eeappreg <filename>
It should work fine. It was a bug with iasdeploy command in iAS SP3 which had been fixed in iAS SP4.
