Firefox 31.0 google old search engine :(

i had to format my computer , after that i downloaded FF , and when searching in google i see the OLD engine , not the new 1 , how thats possible?

You may have cookies from an older Google experiment.
Did you try to clear the cookies?
You can try a New Private Window to see if that has effect.
If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.
*Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

  • Firefox keeps changing my default search engine to Bing. I've changed it back 20 times already. Enough is enough.

Ever since the deal went down when Firefox changed its default provider from Google, I have had to reset my default search engine back from Bing at least every other day, if not more frequent. It is maddening. It doesn't just happen on one machine either, it's happening on all of mine.
I do have Firefox sync enabled with preference sync, so is it possible Firefox sync is getting out of sync? IE every time I change it on a machine, it misses a browser, and then the browser that doesn't get changed goes out and changes all the rest back in the next sync? That's the only thing I can think of, other than Mozilla selling their souls and values and forcing Firefox users to use a search engine they hate.
If the latter is the case, I have had enough and am switching to Chrome. I can't handle having to change my default search engine back every other day. Please someone tell me there is an explanation and a fix. Thanks.

Alright, I feel like an idiot. It was from an extension I installed called InvisibleHand that I installed right around the time the Google deal with Mozilla expired, which is why I assumed the problem was a result of that.
I just checked the settings of the extension and sure enough it has an option that gets ticked by default called "InvisibleHand Search (Use InvisibleHand (powered by Bing) as my default search provider)". So I jumped the gun and blamed Firefox, my apologies.
The extension automatically shows you if an item is cheaper elsewhere while online shopping which is useful, however having that setting ticked by default is pretty skeevy.
Anyway, thanks for the response and sorry I blamed Firefox :P

  • How do I change google search to google chrome search engine

need to have google search changed to google chrome search engine...attempted several times, several different ways...yet NO... will not happen... not a computer whiz... not at all...so please give simple instructions for me...I would appreciated it so much.

I mean I want/need Google Chrome search opening in Mozilla...right now I have Google... want to keep Mozilla as my default browser and have Chrome to open on the Mozilla Start Page...is this possible? I am severely challenged in understanding all this technology... learning curve is long and high... but I am trying to grasp it....

  • How to keep Google as the search engine on Firefox startpage, no matter what search engine is in the upper-right drop-box?

When I change the search engine in the upper-right search-box (to let's say Wikipedia), the search engine in the middle of the Firefox home-page changes accordingly. I don't want this to happen (I want that to pin to Google). How to do it?

Current Firefox versions use the search engine that is selected in the search bar (click the search engine icon to open the drop down list) on the Navigation Toolbar for searching via the location bar and for the search engine on the about:home page.
If you want to use different search engines then you can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page (Firefox > Add-ons).

  • I can't get to google recently on my computer, neither with firefox, what is this a search engine blockade virus?

    recently for two weeks now
    i can't open google
have firefox, try to open google or ask something on the google bar
    i can't get no connection
is this on my computer and how do i get this deblocked?
i think a specific program to block google search engine is on my computer

I assume Google toolbar extension is not compatible with Firefox 5.
You can try this extension to override compatibility issues,

  • Firefox passes me to bablon search engine even though I have deleted this from search engines. I wish to have Google as my search engine

I have removed Bablon from search engine list in manager but Firefox continues to use it as a default search engine

Is that with searching via the location bar or via the (Google) search bar on the Navigation Toolbar?
Try to reset some preferences to the default with the SearchReset extension:
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the about:addons page.
You can also try to delete the search.sqlite and search.json files in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • How to make google default search engine in address bar.

How do I make it so that when I search with my address bar it ALWAYS uses Google, regardless of what search engine is selected in the search bar? It used to be like this, but a recent Firefox update altered it. Now, when I search with my address bar it uses the search engine selected in the search bar...if I wanted to do that, I would just use the search bar! Any suggestions?

I'm also having this same problem... it's the first thing that Firefox has ever done that's made me contemplate getting a different browser. The "update" seems like a step back, and a removal of a very good feature. I'm in the same boat of wondering if there's any work-arounds or add-ons to restore the old usage, even if it comes at the risk of having my address bar's search engine occasionally hijacked.

  • An add-on to force firefox switch back to default search engine in search bar

    Hi,
I have a couple search engines installed in firefox's search bar. I find it extremely annoying that each time I change the search engine it remains like that even after restarting firefox. Is there any add-on that would switch back to the one that is on the top of the list (which happens to be my default search engine for navigation bar as well) every time I restart the browser?
Let me give you an example: I use duckduckgo as a default search engine for the nav bar and in the search bar. Let's say I need to find a definition for which I use wikipedia search engine. I switch to wikipedia one then. I turn off the browser and the next time I start firefox the search engine that appears in the search bar is wikipedia and I would prefer it to be duckduckgo.
I hope it isn't to vague.
    cheers,
    Omen

Easiest is to set the preferred default engine to the preferred search engine via the user.js file in the Firefox profile folder by copying the related user_pref() line to this file.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can search the <b>about:config</b> page for browser.search. to locate the pref(s) that you need.
    *user_pref("browser.search.defaultenginename", "Google");
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    * Create the chrome folder (lowercase) in the <xxxxxxxx>.default profile folder if this folder doesn't exist
    * Use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) user.js file in this folder (the names are case sensitive)
    * Make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as user.js<br />Otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working user.js.txt file

  • Two issues: Mail dotcom is now telling me to enable java in my browser and firefox has issues w/duckduckgo search engine. I am not allowed 2 instal DDG n search

2 issues: After a windows update on 5 10 2012, maildotcom says I need to enable java in my browser, when as far as I can tell, it is.
Second issue is, I am not able to add duckduckgo as my preferred search engine. I get a pop up in search tool add-ons that says "sorry, you need a Mozilla based browser to install a search plug in."
Why and how can these irritations be fixed?

  • How can I stop Firefox from changing my default search engine to Yahoo when I want it to be Bing?

I keep changing my default search engine to Bing but it keeps changing back to Yahoo. HOW CAN I STOP THIS?!?!

    Bookmark and use this;
    Download the '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Mozilla Search Reset]''' {web link}
This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up
and then resets your search preferences and home page
to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This
affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

  • Safari 7.0 will not use google a search engine

Eventhough I've selected google as my default search engine in the preferences it will only use Yahoo. Is there a fix or work around for this?

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • Googles custom search engine

I purchased Google's Business Search Engine and have spent all day trying to get it to search over my 2 sites. It will search the one site fine but I cant find out why it wont include the 2nd one. Google's support is not much help. Thought someone over here might be able to shed some light. Both sites are created in iweb 08 and hosted on 2 diff .mac accounts.
    Thanks !!

  • Everytime I open a new tab on firefox. I get this search engine page powered by Bing. I DON'T WANT IT.

I open up a new tab on firefox, and every single time I get a new search engine powered by Bing. I don't like bing first of all, second of all the random image is shows was freaking triggered massive anxiety. I don't need this crap.
There was another post that apparently 'solved' the problem but IT DOESN'T WORK. I've tried going to about: config so don't tell me that. What can I do to fix firefox's problem.

WELL. My wonderful girlfriend showed me how to fix it since I couldn't find a solution throughout Firefox's troubleshooting. BASICALLY. I restarted firefox. And voila it's fixed.

  • Firefox forcing yahoo as default search engine

For several days now, every time I turn on my computer and open firefox, the default search engine has been reset to yahoo. I have reset it to my preferred search engine countless times now, I have even reset firefox, and frankly I am annoyed enough that if it continues I'm going to switch my default internet browser.
I would like to not have to reset my preferences each and every time I go on my computer.

Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
