Firefox 31.00 DOWNLOADS folder location has moved.

Firefox 31.00 DOWNLOADS folder location has moved.
I can no longer find the files I download using my Firefox browser.
(Firefox 31.00 - updated as of 2014_0812.)
This is my process:
Firefox 31.00 Menu Bar:
Click -> TOOLS
Click -> DOWNLOADS
This opens up: chrome://mozapps/content/downloads/downloads.xul
The files I download using Firefox 31.00 are not at this (chrome) location.
What’s up with that?
Is there a way to revert to my former setting where clicking on Firefox 31.00 menu button labeled DOWNLOADS opened up my Windows 8.1 DOWNLOADS folder. I'm not sure what I did wrong.

A question for you ...
Are you able to view the Download prompt window when you begin to download a file?
The reason being, is that I am having a download issue within Firefox in which I've been unable to download most any file that I select. The exception would be .ZIP files. Those I can download (and in the process, view the Download prompt window).
I've noticed that I cannot download most other files ... mainly .EXE files and others (in which the Download prompt window fails to even appear).
I initally thought that possibly the downloaded files were being redirected elsewhere within my C drive, but that appears not to be the case.
Let me know if you've experienced a similar issue.
Anyway, I do hope that your issue is resolved in due time.
Take care,

• Changing Apple Software Updates download folder location

Hi,
My C drive is full so my computer won't allow me to update iTunes. I have moved Apple Software Updates (as well as my iTunes and media folders) to my D drive but it still downloads the update files to my C drive which doesn't have room to allow the download to happen. Can anyone tell me how to change the download folder location for ASU?
I'm hoping if I can change the location it will work. Any help or other suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thank you

HI,
Saving files to the Desktop can lead to poor performance on your Mac, read here.
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7667118#7667118
If you still want to save files to the Desktop regardless, and you can change the default location in Safari Preferences, then make not of your Safari Preferences and then delete this file.
com.apple.Safari.plist
~/Library/Preferences.
Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac. Try Safari Preferences/Downloads, click "Other" and see if you can navigate to the Desktop.
You would be much better off creating a folder and keeping in your Dock.
*"i want my downloads to go to a folder on my desktop called downloads."*
Name it anything but Downloads.

How do I choose download folder location? I need to save files into separate folders depending on content.

You need to use about:config.

That however is a semi permanent setting there is no menu to use for quickly choosing locations.

• Firefox unexpectedly changes download folder

After upgrade to FF7.0.1 (on Win7 Pro-64) I sometimes see a strange behaviour: while downloading a couple of files to the same folder, FF does occasionally change to another download folder - without request.
I.e. I save files to folder A, suddenly FF offers me folder B. After choosing back to A, a couple of files later FF offers folder G, and so on.
While working 10 - 12 hours with my PC, this happens once or twice a day. It doesn't depend on the file's format, happens with docs, videos, pics, pdfs, zips and other formats.

Since 6 months, while using and upgrading releases (from FF7 up to currently FF12.0, on Win7 prof 64) that behaviour "unexpectedly changes download folder" still shows up. Sometimes after the 2nd or 3rd file, sometimes not until the 10th ... numbers are changing.
So, former ideas "mime types could be a reason" won't work, because - in my case - the mime types of the downloaded files (i.e. series of pics from same address, series of movies from same address of my internet video recorder save.tv) are always the same (proved!)
Result: there is still work to do - good luck!

• Where is the Downloads folder located on iMac 10.4.11?

.....

Welcome to ASC!
By default, Mac browsers save all downloads to the Desktop. See if the folder is here:
Macintosh Hard Drive > Users > [yourusername]
or
Macintosh Hard Drive > Users > [yourusername] > Documents
If it's not there, simply create one where ever you like.
Once you've found it or created it, go to your browser and set it to route downloads there. In Safari Preferences:
It's similarly located in other browsers like FireFox.

• Trying to uninstall and reinstall itunes, but keeps telling me that folder location has an invalid character

Have had a number of issues with itunes, but everytime I have tried to update it, it tells me that the file location is invalid.
Have tried to go through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, but when I come to uninstall itunes, it tells me that the file location contains an invalid character.
Help!!!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

• How to change folder location for Downloads

I want this folder to be on a different hard drive... is there a way?

RC -R
True, you can copy the download folder's icon by selecting "get info" then clicking the icon, selecting copy, then selecting the target/desired folder for downloads, selecting "get info", clicking once on the icon and selecting paste.
However, this doesn't get you the uber-cool green download arrow in the sidebar.
Leopard really should have a preference in System Preferences for a default Downloads folder location...no matter the drive or location. I too prefer my downloads be directed to a different drive and had manually created "downloads" folders in my sidebars in prior versions of the OS.
As others have commented, the icons in Leopard for the special folders lack differentiation in both color and silhouette/shape, relying on those embossed characters that are a bit too subtle for my tastes...but that's just opinion.
Similarly, Leopard should introduce default browser and media app selection in preferences instead of requiring the launch of Safari or QuickTime etc.. It's an incredibly poor choice to bury preferences with system wide applicability in proprietary apps.

• Mesh enabling Downloads folder stopd Firefox opening it?

I have my Dowloads folder sync'd to all my other computers using Microsoft's Mesh system. When I got a new computer, downloading a file would produce the downloads list and allow me to run prog or open containing folder. Once I pointed downloads to a Live Mesh folder (so I only have to download a file once) this all stopped working. The downloads box opens and the file starts downloading OK, if I am quick enough I can right click the downloading file and "open containing folder" but if not, the download finishes and then the file vanishes from the list (its still in the folder and been downloaded OK, just not easily accessible from Firefox download window??
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== Changed download folder to Mesh Live folder

Yeah, thanks but that's not what I was trying to ask.
I know that you can save and open a document by performing these three steps:
1. Confirming to save a file to the Downloads folder
2. Open the download manager by clicking the temporarily green arrow
3. Clicking on the downloaded file
What I would like to know is whether or not it is possible to have Firefox open a saved file ''automatically''. At the moment, if I choose to open it automatically, it is only saved to my temp folder.
It would be great though if it was saved to my Downloads folder ''and'' opened with the respective program on my pc. Is there a way to do this?

• Can't download purchases due to download folder permissions on NAS

I downloaded several podcasts using my iPhone whilst away at Christmas. My media library is stored on a Buffalo NAS with the library xml stored locally and after syncing with iTunes I can no longer download new purchases reporting error - 5000.
"There was a problem downloading ************. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again."
I've investigated exhaustively to solve the issue. Apple's iTunes Store troubleshooting suggests the following:
If you encounter this issue while while downloading something from the iTunes Store:
Delete your iTunes Downloads folder, located in:
Mac OS X:
~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Downloads Note: "iTunes Media" may appear as "iTunes Music. Also, the tilde (~) refers to your Home directory.
However, I can't delete the Downloads folder because I do not have sufficient access permissions. Worth noting that the files on the Downloads folder correspond to those downloaded by my iPhone so the iPhone has caused this issue, even though I have been able to perform this task away from home before without these issues before iCloud and Match came along.
So, now I'm faced with a Downloads folder that I cannot delete even using Sudo rm -rf in terminal, CHOWN, CHMOD or even MV to relocate the files. There are no answers on this issue on the Buffalo forums so I am opening this frustrating issue up to the geniuses on the apple discussions group to see if anyone can help. Thanks

Okay, I solved it myself - surprisingly.
I logged into the NAS using Telnet as 'root' and this allowed me to delete the 'Downloads' directory without any permission issues. After re-opening iTunes it was able to download the backed-up purchases without error.
I don't know if the iPhone will cause permission issues again down the line though, so this may well be a bug in the latest iTunes version?

• I am having a difficult time downloading HD movies from iTunes. I tried on both my imac and new macbook pro but 95% of the time I get error 8008 (corruption). I can stream HD content from Netflix and hulu w/o problems. I also empty my download folder.

After it started happening on my imac I tried to download on my ne macbook pro but the same thing is happening. I can stream without any ral noticiable problems from my icloud library, Netflix, and Hulu but when I try to download so I can back them up I get the 8008 error code. I have contacted spple support and am still waitin on an answer. Sometimes the error will happen towards the beginning and other times when it is almost downloaded. I can tell it is atarting when the time remaining starts to fluctuate, then the download bar may stop ans start over. It seems to be an icloud problem but I thought I would check to see if anyone else has had the problem and was able to get it taken care of. It should be noted that everyonce in a while I do get a complete download.

These alerts occur due to timeouts or conflicts trying to write a file during download.
After locating your iTunes Downloads folder:
Quit iTunes.
Delete the Downloads folder on your computer.
Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.
Enter your account name and password.
Also review this support aticle as it might be causing due to internet connection: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368
Hope this helps.

• Prevent show 'select download folder' dialog when click export csv button in a flash-based website

I want to download csv file from a flash-based website. When i click the button with export icon, Firefox always pop up dialog box with title 'select download folder for ...'. I have set up default download folder and uncheck 'always ask me where to save files'. If i download from other websites (not a flash one) then the download automatically started without pop up folder selection dialog. I want to prevent firefox from showing download folder selection dialog because i need to use it for web automation. by the way, i use ubuntu 12.04 with firefox 21.0. I have used flashgot extension but still no luck. Any suggestion about this?

I already have followed the instruction above, but still no luck. The dialog still appear. I think this is not a regular download link since it's made with flash. It's look like an export button which will force browser to pop up 'select folder location' dialog and when i click save then there is no download progress like usual, the file just saved automatically. I think the file itself is rendered when the flash website loaded, and then embeded into the web page. When i download, it didn't send any request, it just get the embeded file.

• Mail attachments aren't being downloaded to Downloads folder?

Whenever I click on an attachment I receive on Mail, I want it to automatically download onto my Downloads folder. However, when I click on an attachment, it opens, but it doesn't appear in my Downloads folder. It only saves onto the hidden "Mail Downloads" folder that you can find by going into your Mac's Library. This is especially irritating when I open an attached word document, edit and save it, close the window, and then attempt to resend the edited attachment through email only to find that it's not in my downloads folder and that the "Mail Downloads" folder only has the original copy (without edits).
Under "Mail Preferences -> General -> Downloads folder:" I have it set to my actual Downloads folder so I don't understand what could be wrong. Anyone know what could be wrong? Thanks for the help!
P.S. I know that I can "Save As" the file and put it into my downloads folder, but that's a lot of unnecessary work when I'm downloading multiple attachments.

Select the photo(s) in the email body, Control (right) - click , and select Save to Downloads Folder from the contextual menu:

• How to (successfully) change Mail Downloads folder?

Hi,
I've been trying to wrestle with my Mail Downloads folder location without success, so I thought I would ask.
I dislike having a separate "Mail Downloads" folder because stuff accumulates endlessly there. The default Mail Downloads is at ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads. Here's what I have tried:
The obvious: change "Downloads folder" in Mail prefs. No matter what I choose, the files are still downloaded to the default folder.
I removed ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads and made it a symlink to my ~/Downloads folder (where I'd like to put everything). This causes opening attachments from Mail to hang (I have to save them first, and then open from the saved location). I get these messages in Console (in this example, trying to open an attachment named "Manual.pdf", and PID 56818 is the Mail app):
9/13/12 11:52:29.707 AM CoreServicesUIAgent[56818]: Quarantine resolution refused to pid 56809 because it is not allowed to read /Users/a10022/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads/Manual.pdf

Any thoughts? The symlink trick was working fine in Lion and before, the trouble started with the upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Thanks,
--Diego

Hi,
I have spent quit some time on this and there is no decent option to do so. Mail is a buggy product since it ignores the default preferences. Old tricks with the symbolic link don't work. Most likely because Apple wants you to look at all the nice inline attachments in stead of treating them as a real attachment. Just like they do in their commercials.
I found some posts on how to move it to another disk but that was not my goal. So in the end, there was only one option left for me and that is to just make it a faourite folder in my finder so I can at least review it daily to clean it up.
Sorry for not having a desent fix but this works for me.
Good luck!
