Firefox 31 compatibility with Norton toolbar

When I start to update to Firefox 31 I get a notice that Norton toolbr is not compatible. This has been a problem for years; Norton never seems to have issued the patch yet when a new version of Firefox first comes out, so I always check with Norton to see if they've patched their app so it will run with a new Firefox before I run the browser update. With well over 200 username/password sets in the Norton ID Safe, I cannot afford to have it disabledeven thouh I keep all their nearly useless security stuff turned off so it doesn't interfere with my ESET. I checked with them several days ago and they claim that it IS now compatible with Firefox 31. But the Fireox update app still warns me that it isn't compatible and will be disabled if I update the browser. And yes, the Norton is current, with all updates and patches. So what is going on here?

Norton issued a patch for their toolbar extension for Firefox 31.0 on the day before Firefox 31.0 was released.

From bottom of page.
''You may need to run LiveUpdate and reboot a few times before your product is completely updated to the latest version. It will appear in the LiveUpdate history as Norton Toolbar Add-on for Firefox''.
''If you are running Firefox 31 and Norton Internet Security, Norton 360 21.4.0.13 or NSS 21.3.0.12, and still do not see the Norton Toolbar, please ensure the Norton Toolbar plugin is enabled. You can do this by clicking on the Firefox menu, selecting Add-ons, and then clicking Enable next to Norton Toolbar''.
Unlike with most Extensions, since this toolbar works with a separate application it needs to be update for each new major Firefox version .exe

  • FireFox VERY slow with Norton Toolbar 4.6 on GMAIL and B of A, etc.

Using XP Pro SP3 and FireFox 3.6.7, but has been slow for a while now. If I disable Norton ToolBar 4.6 (from NIS 2010) it is OK but IE 8 is fine. What happens is that GMAIL logs in and just hangs for a while. Even B of A or the Norton site. Even my ISP's site is VERY slow. A lot of forums are slow as well. Seems like sites that need a log-in have this issue.

I had done this and disabled ALL of the addons/plugins, and it was fine. As soon as I enabled the Norton toolbar, the problem was back. I then enabled everything except the Norton Toolbar and it was still good. I believe this is a Firefox issue as IE 8 works well with the Norton Toolbar enabled. I also see this when I go to my Netflix queue. Firefox is very slow while IE 8 shows the list quickly.

  • Compatability with norton tool bar?

I would like to update but untill you are compatable with norton toolbar i can't

hello v2fish2, actually it works the other way round - 3rd-party-developers which want to hook into firefox have to make their addons compatible.
symantec has a pretty good track record in making their product compatible whenever there is a new version of firefox released, so they should already be compatible to firefox 18 (run symantec liveupdate to obtain their latest version):

  • Why does the new version of Firefox not integrate with Norton 360 Identity Safe. Problem for me because I use Norton 360 Identity Safe to manage my passwords and make it more difficult to use password protected website without that add-in.

  • It says ff4 is not compatable with norton or avg.....why is this?

    i downloaded ff4 beta
was a nitemare, but heard good things bout new version, downloaded it
now pc is slow an says ff4 is not compatable with norton or avg antivirus
    '''bold text'''

It is down to Norton and AVG to update their products to work with Firefox 4. Mozilla froze the extensions API about 5 months ago, giving add-on developers plenty of time to update their add-ons, but some companies have not yet done so.

  • Is Firefox 10 compatible with Norton products

I have Norton 18.7 with Identity Safe and got a message stating Firefox 10 is not compatible.

  • How do I return to firefox 3.0. Norton toolbar is not compatible with firefox 4

When I upgraded to firefox 4 I found the Norton toolbar was incompatable with this beta version. I contacted Norton and they suggested I return to older version of firefox. How do I go back to firefox version 3.6?

The Turnitin system requirements on mention Firefox 3. If it does not support Firefox 4 you can downgrade to Firefox 3.6
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • Your update 33.0 is not compatable with Norton antivirus and the screen only turns black when trying to open firefox. Please help

Please see question. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but with no success. Chrome and Int. Exp both work fine, but nothing comes up but a black screen covering most of my monitor in Firefix.

Sorry but it is always the other way. Norton needs to update their Firefox extension to work with the new major version Release so it can tie in with their antivirus client.
The good news is that Norton as usual has a live-update patch for Firefox 33.0 which was available on October 13, the day be fore Firefox 33.0 was Released.

As for the black screen it may be due to old graphic drivers

start Firefox into safemode '''by pressing the shift key while the application is launching''' & disable Hardware Acceleration in the Firefox ''menu ≡ > Options > Advanced > General'' (You will need to restart Firefox to take effect).

  • My Norton toolbar doesn't workm in Firefox 21. It says it is incompatible with said version of Firefox. It is Norton toolbar version 2013.3.4.3.

Also, there is no "enable" button next to the listing in add-ons list. I have the most current version of Norton Internet Security installed and there are no further updates available on Liveupdate.
How do I resolve this issue?

How can I remove Norton Toolbar when there are no buttons to remove or enable/disable?
Besides, I wasn't aware the toolbar had a standalone download? I thought it could only be received through Norton products such as Internet Security.
    Please advise.

  • 4.01 is not compatible with Norton toolbar?

I have used Firefox religiously for the last few years and have always been happy with the stability and reliability. But now I have installed the latest version only to find that it did not work with the Norton Toolbar and the Identity Safe in particular. So, I have had to reinstall the 3.6.17 and uninstall the 4.01. Now the earlier version is not functioning correctly. Keeps asking me if I want it to be my default browser, has the home, reload and stop icons relocated in unlikely places and doesn't function with the same predictable reliability. Can I get a fix for this? Or can I get an update notice when the bugs have been worked out of the new version so that I can get the Norton Toolbar back?

Symantec need to correct a mistake they made with their add-ons. They originally updated their add-ons after quite a delay to work with Firefox 4.0 as shown here - http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Firefox-4-compatibility-hotfix-is-now-available/td-p/428894
They made an error with the update in only listing it as compatible with Firefox 4.0, so they will not install on Firefox 4.0.1 and subsequent Firefox security updates. Symantec have indicated they will be releasing an update to correct their error soon, for details see http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-Toolbar-not-compatible-with-FF-4-0-1/td-p/442788/page/12

  • Just upgraded to Firefox 4 and important Norton toolbar is missing - how do I get it back?

I've only just upgraded to Firefox 4 today (30.4.11) and when it had installed and restarted, my Norton toolbar was missing. A message from Firefox did come up - something to do with some items not compatible with version 4 but I can't remember all that it said. I haven't had this problem with any of the other versions of Firefox. This is an important toolbar as it concerns identity protection, safe web searching.

Symantec have released updates for Norton 360 and Norton Internet Security to make them compatible with Firefox 4, for details see http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Firefox-4-compatibility-hotfix-is-now-available/td-p/428894

  • Crashes with norton toolbar ext.

Kept crashing upon opening. Started in safe mode ,disabled add- ons and worked ok. Enabled add-ons until I got to Norton toolbar 4.6. It immediately crashed.
Also, when I open Firefox support forum there is no text shown. When I type into the search box nothing shows. Vista SP2
Right now I'm using my XP It's the only way that I can communicate with you.

Anything nortons you should delete. The internet security cannot find basic 1980 virus's.
Get rid of nortons and get something like Avast or AVG..
