Firefox 32 - Download file to external application fails to open the application. Only works if app is used within Firefox as in Acrobat reader.
Some of my users have started using Firefox 32 and discovered that files on the websites (pdf, xls, doc, etc) will not open fully if the application option is set to a windows application such as Acrobat Viewer, Microsoft Excel, Word, etc. The Download manager shows them listed and "hung" up. The file is downloaded to a temp location but the file is never opened and presented to the user. If the pdf option is set to open within Firefox using the built in Acrobat viewer, that will open within the browser.
This did not happen with version 31 and installing this on a sandbox desktop reproduced the problem.
We are running Windows 7 operating systems. Need help to solve this. Anybody?
hello warnerm, this is a bug in the latest 32 beta 9 version which will be addressed in the release candidate 1 build which should be deployed via auto-updates to beta users tomorrow.
a workaround for the moment would be to enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), right-click somewhere on the page and create a new string setting with the name '''browser.safebrowsing.appRepURL''' and value '''https://sb-ssl.google<i></i>.com/safebrowsing/clientreport/download?key=%GOOGLE_API_KEY%'''
for reference see [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1057764 bug #1057764] (please don't post in bug reports, but vote for the bug if you want to see it fixed)

I am using UPK developer 12.1.0 single user. My sofware has crashed and needs reinstallation. Please suggest how can I take back up of my source files. I am unable to open the application and i can not locate the library backup folder on my local machine.
Also, does reinstallation takes the back up automatically or the files will be lost. Please help. Here are a bunch of scripts to get folder size under all circumstances. Take your pick.

Your question about 32 bit or 64 bit was good. In fact, before our exchanges, I downloaded Photoshop but I didn't run the application.
After our messages, I tried to click the setup
First, when I clicked "setup" in the directory ""32 bit PhotoshopElem13" I had an error message , then, I clicked the setup in the second directory, it was the good one.... 64 bit !
All is OK

I wanted to upgrade from Firefox 3 to Firefox 4. But, after I completed the download and then tried to open the Firefox application, I received a pop-up message saying, "You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture." Is it possible that I may have inadvertantly downloaded Firefox 5? I do not think that my system will support
Firefox 5. I am not a techie, so I very much appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you.*Firefox 4 versions and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac.
*Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

For an unofficial Firefox 4 compatible version (TenFourFox) that runs on PowerPC Macs with OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8 you can look at:

Firefox 3.6.x (Mac OS X 10.4 and later) can be found here:

I downloaded the FF4 update and it has the "no smoking" symbol over the FF icon. When you attempt to open the app it states: "you can't open the application "firfox" because it is not supported on this application."
I have OS 10.5.8
If it will not work, how do I get the old version of FF back? Are you sure you downloaded the .dmg file? It should have automounted for you and opened in finder. Then all you have to do is drag the FF4 icon over the Applications link in that finder window and it will install.
I seem to recall seeing the error you noted when I accidentally clicked a windows .exe file on my Mac.
Also, if you visit firefox.com from your Mac, it should be prompting you to download the .dmg anyway. The only way you could get the .exe would be to click the "other operating systems" link below the main download button. -
Do files in Snow Leopard no longer open the application that made them?
With every Mac OS I've used until now (nearly 20 years) clicking on a file icon would automatically open the file in the program with which it was created. But since I began using OS 10.6 this is no longer the case. Every time I open anything I have to manually choose what app will open it, which is tedious, especially if the drives have spun down. I can't figure out a remedy for this, if one exists.
I've also noticed that file icons no longer reflect the program which which they were created--Illustrator, Acrobat, etc., as they always used to.
Any ideas about this? Is it just the way OS 10.6 works? If not, what can I do to fix it?
Message was edited by: SchenkerBobSnow Leopard no longer uses creator codes to determine which apps open files. Now, it uses file extensions. So, whatever's set to open a file with an unique extension will open them; e.g., .doc files might not use MS Word to open them all—it might revert to the Pages app. You can change them to use MS Word, by getting a CMD+I, setting it to open with MS Word, and clicking on Change All (ensure it honors your choice).

Message there is a problem with Adobe Reader/Acrobat. If it is running please exit and try again. 0.104
It is usually quicker to get a reply if you provide all relevant information, e.g. your operating system / your Reader XI version.

whever i try to access websites, most of them work but facebook, youtube, my school email, sometimes even google, and alot other websites wont work for me and will tell me i need to update the lastest Flash Player. but when i try to download it, it says 'You can’t open the application “setup.exe” because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X.' what does that even mean?? This happens on safari, google chrome and i downloaded firefox and it worked for a couple of hours and then stopped working again.
please help, thanks in advance.1. Install Adobe Flash Player from Adobe site.
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Download it first. Click Safari in the menubar and select “Quit Safari”.
Follow the prompts and install it.
Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
2. Allow Plug-ins
Safari > Preferences > Security

My iMac G5 without intel chips, Mac OS X 10.5.8.
using Firefox 364 no problem at all.
But unable to install Firefox 4 on it, prompt "You can't open the application because it is not supported on this architecture"Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.
There is a third-party version of Firefox 4 that works on PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox -
I just want to download Firefox 3.6 again
I downloaded Firefox 4 onto my PowerPC G4, 1.67GHz running Mac OSX 10.5.6. When I try to open it I get error message You cannot open the application “Firefox” because it is not supported on this architecture.Use Tony's suggestion. I am running it right now and it is awesome. I love Mozilla but they basically screwed all of those older Macs over. Come on Mozilla. These Macs still work, and there are plenty of people with them out there.

I just downloaded the Windows Migrator and tryed to open it. A window popped up saying "YOU CANT OPEN THE APPLICATION BECAUSE MICROSOFT APPLICATIONS ARE NOT SUPPORTED ON OS X". How do i transfer my files?
An .exe application is compiled for Windows. It will not run on a different OS. If you need to run this program, then you will have to install Windows on your Mac. Either as a separate bootable partition, or running in a virtual machine, such as Parallels or VMWare.

Tried to install Firefox but an error message "Extraction failed - cannot open output file" always pops up, without a reason. Why's this happening?
Try to disable your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes it work.
You may need to delete the temp folder (%TEMP%) to remove the old files.
