Firefox 4.0.1 UI badly flawed

Sorry to its creators, but it just doesn't work at all.
Four problems:
1. The X on each tab looks way too similar to the X used to stop a page loading and they often end up being located very close to one another. It's way too easy to hit the wrong one by mistake.
2. Similarly, the Home icon looks way too similar to the Create a New Tab icon which is just below it.
3. The controls for a tab spread all over the place. To kill it is on the tab, to stop it or reload it is at the end of the URL and to go back or forward is way over at the left. You end up bouncing around all over the screen.
4. Worst of all though is the fact that Reload and Stop share the same location (at the end of the URL). This totally ignores the case of a slow loading page which has been trying for a long time. In this case you need to do a Reload to get the OS to give this process higher priority again so that it will actually finish, but now you can't because only the X/Stop icon is showing.
5. A fifth, lesser problem is that add-ons like AdBlock now put their icons on the same line as the URL and search box. They're
stealing too much space! There's plenty of space on the next line (next to the Create New Tab icon) and they should go there.
How can I get these fixed or regress to the earlier edition?

# Place the cursor anywhere in a tab you want to close and either press the middle mouse button (the wheel), or right click and choose "Close tab".<br><br>
# Right click a blank part of the Tab bar and choose Customize. A panel will open and while it remains visible, you can rearrange the layout by dragging elements around. So drag the Home button somewhere else. You can also drag anything you don't like into that panel, or add to the existing layout by dragging it out.<br><br>
#Rearrange the layout as above.<br><br>
#Press F5<br><br>
#In the Customize menu, checkmark "Use small icons".
Also, right click a blank part of the tab bar and click "Tabs on top" to move them to below the location bar.<br><br>
To reinstate the text links at the top, click "Menu bar" in the same menu.<br><br>
However, the text links can be toggled on and off by hitting ALT.<br><br>
To revert to the previous secure version of Firefox, do the following.
Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.17] and download it to the desktop.<br><br>
Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).<br><br>
Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox<br><br>
Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.<br><br>
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.<br><br>
After you complete the installation, go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page and update those where necessary.<br><br>

  • Is Firefox working on the OS BADA for the Samsung Wave II GT- S8530?

    I posted this 3 months ago in your Mobile forum: Hoping for a feedback from someone at Firefox. So far nothing. Can someone respond? Is Firefox working on the OS BADA for the Samsung Wave II GT- S8530? Any guess if there is something in the works for completion? Thanks
    I recently purchased a Samsung Wave II GT-S8530 mobile phone while I was in Thailand. It is a great phone and I would like to use Firefox on it. I was just asking if there was anybody working on this new OS called BADA? If so, I would really like to find out if it will be available soon? Thanks for your help and you guys have a wonderful product. I put it on everyone of my friends PC as it is soooo much better than explorer.
    I really would appreciate if someone from the Tech/engineering/or anyone in the know, side of Firefox that would respond to me on this issue. BADA OS is a growing platform serving more and more mobile styles. This OS could really use a Firefox browser.
    Thank you for your time!
    Wader

    Sorry, we don't have support for BADA. There are no plans to support it at this time.

    OK it's now fast............but for me that's all at present.
    I tried all browsers, ended with firefox & chrome, preferred firefox but it is updated badly too many times causing me to have to re-install on many occasions, very time consuming.
    The last update also hanged my PC resolution viewing type, it became even more blurred on every program on my PC.
    The previous version was acceptable. I now intend to use chrome more often & maybe uninstall firefox for good.
    ?security updates, are these likely to affect my PC performance in any way?

    Start with a blank page using the Black or WHite template.

  • Firefox's kerning is so bad that it ruins text alignement?

    Here, I made an image of my issue, http://i.imgur.com/gv9jXnY.png
    Firefox on the top, IE10 is on the bottom
    As you can CLEARLY see, the repeat kerning failures in Firefox are so bad that they throw off the entire alignment of text, I searched for atleast six hours on how to resolve this, I could not find an answer
    Could you tell me how I can tell firefox to display text in the same way that IE does?
    I'm a DieHard IE fan who finally decided to stop using IE, I find Firefox (Personally Waterfox) to be a good alternative, the issue is that the text Literally Hurts My Eyes to read and look at, on Every webpage
    What the hell do I need to do to Force firefox to render text the same way as IE?

    Okay, so for example: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/forum/threadview/2955064785067990285/2/
    What I notice is that Chrome does not break the URLs and Firefox does: Firefox breaks by moving the / to the beginning of the next line. (I can't test IE newer than 8 on this system.)
    That forum has a typo in its style rule for that signature block:
    word-break: break-word;
    break-word is not a valid value for the word-break property, so it is ignored and the browsers are using their default rules. If the site intended to use
    word-break: break-all;
    then the [https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Web/CSS/word-break MDN article on word-break] suggests that all browsers would display that text like Firefox does.
    You can override what Firefox is doing in that signature block with a custom style rule:
    .forum-threadview-post-signature {
    word-break: keep-all !important;
    (Demo of the change attached.) Custom style rules can be applied to a page automatically each time you load it in Firefox by creating/editing a userContent.css file in your settings folder, or by using the Stylish extension.
    But it depends on how motivated you are... also, I might find time to research why Firefox and other browsers have different defaults when it comes to breaking words at slashes. Aren't we all supposed to follow the same standards??

  • Can u release firefox for mobiles running on bada platform...? v r desperately in need of it ..... plz consider......

  • Small fonts for Firefox 35.0.1 display badly after Windows Update 2/10/15

    After Microsoft did an update (image attached) the display of many small fonts is nasty (image attached). I see it in no other programs including IE. Not all fonts are bad, just some small ones. Everything on your page here looks fine.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    hi chris, this is probably caused by microsoft update kb3013455 which can cause font rendering issues on vista:
    <blockquote>After you install security update 3013455, you may notice some text quality degradation in certain scenarios. The problem only occurs on systems that are running Windows Vista SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP2. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available. </blockquote>

    If you are running Firefox you can see an example of the problem here:

    Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

    Same here. It looks fine in Firefox 4 for me. Clear the Firefox cache (go to Firefox's Advanced/Network preference pane and click the Clear Now button for offline storage) and try the site again.

  • I want my Safari restart with previous session like FireFox does

    Hey. Just got to say that there's no way that I will have Safari as my main browser until it picks up the IE, Opera and Firefox functionality that if I close the application and restart I have the option to have Safari start 'where I left off'.
    Is this so hidden, that I can't find it, or this a feature we're not going to see leaving Safari badly flawed.
    Here's hoping!
    Dan
    Dual Core AMD 4400 rig

    Maybe I have a differenet setup, but isn't that only when Firefox doesn't quit normaly? If you just close and reopen Firefox it doesn't ask you about 'Resoring the Session', only if it unexpetedly quits or if you terminate the process via Task Manager. Frankly if all it does is help out a tiny bit when there is a fatal error Safari isn't really missing a whole lot. Not to say it couldn't use the feature, just wondering if this really consitutes "baddly flawed"...

  • Why is firefox 7b using a lot more memory and cpu on my computer?

    I'm trying firefox 7 beta in a debian squeeze box. It is using a lot of RAM and CPU compared to previous releases of firefox(I've tried disabling all plugins and add-ons, not a big improvement). In the follow link here is a summary from about:memory, websites tabs opened at that time and the usage of % mem and cpu of my system: http://pastebin.com/8ji1gmLk
    I'm using firefox on all my computers for a while now. So changing the browser is not an option for me now.
    It did crash few times when loading a lot of tabs. Please let me know if there is another information that would be useful for fixing this. Thanks

    Is it using a significant amount more resources than 6.0 did?
    I noticed 6.0 is a VAST resource hog over 5.0 and earlier. It's a very bad flaw in the new version, and has a lot of people upset.
    What has me curious is whether this is a new resource problem or whether it was present in 6.0 and you are just not noticing it.
    One suggestion: Don't run BETA versions of ANY software on "all your machines". Not when rolling back the version is not an option. That's generally a bad idea, since beta versions are likely to have bugs.
    With FF, now, I would never let it automatically update. I don't trust their new update policies, so I would suggest you turn "auto updates" to OFF, and do it manually, only after you hear the new release is stable, which we know 6.0 is NOT.

  • Downloading images used to go automatically to the last folder used to save images, even when reopening Firefox. In just the past few days, possibly coinciding wih the most recent updates, the folder defaults to the 'Downloads' folder. This is most annoyi

    Downloading images used to go automatically to the last folder used to save images, even when reopening Firefox. In just the past few days, possibly coinciding wih the most recent updates, the folder defaults to the 'Downloads' folder. This is most annoying. What happened? Internet Explorer 8.0 did the same thing. This was one of the reasons why I started using Firefox to download all images. I went into Tools>Options and it only lets me set another folder. I dont want to set a specific folder I want it to always go to the last folder used. So what gives?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == possibly when the most recent updates were installed, a few days ago

    Thanks jscher 2000. I guess I didn't make it clear. "It restarts with all the addons activated, and resumes with the tabs that were open before closing it." IE, it's running fine now with all the extensions activated. Everything is OK now.
    So something in the Firefox code was causing the bad behavior. It's not essential that I find out what the problem was - I'm just curious. And if anybody else has this same problem, it might be nice to have it corrected at the source.

  • Firefox 4 will not start on Windows 7 64bit

    I just upgraded my installation of FF3 to FF4 and the installation seemed to go off without a hitch.
    I left the "Launch Firefox now" button ticked and hit finish. Then nothing...
    I can see that the process is being started (from Task Manager), but it doesn't do anything. There is no safe mode option available for me to try and restart it, so my only option is to kill it.
    I have tried installing normally, advanced, "Run as administror", restaring my PC; none of these worked. Every time the process starts, but nothing happends. Not even a task bar windows comes up.
    In the end I had to download (in Internet Explorer, yuk!) an older version of Firefox (3) and reinstall using this. This at least made it work again, but I still can't get FF4 working!
    I updated it on my other personal PC and it worked fine (all addons the same, but older hardware).
    In case it's relevant, I have heard of some annoyances with hardware acceleration and if I could get to the option to turn it off I would.
    My particular hardware is:
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU X980 @ 3.33GHz
    Memory: 12288MB RAM DDR3-1600MHz
    Hard Drive: RevoDrive X2 240GB
    Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 SLI
    Monitor: LG M237WDP 1920*1080
    Sound Card: M237WDP-1 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)
    Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.101026-1503)
    Motherboard: Asus Rampage III Extreme
    All drivers are up-to-date, bar my OS which is fully up-to-date bar having SP1 installed. No other application are having problems.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Solved it!
    It was a dodgy version of Firebug (1.6.2) running, which would kill the disable/update process. It was killing something on the first run that would corrupt my Firefox.
    How I fixed it:
    * Download the latest Firefox
    * Install Firefox 4 (as Standard) in-place upgrade
    * Before finishing, un-tick the "Run Firefox Now" button
    * Hit Finish
    * Find Firefox in the Start Menu and hold Shift and click the executable (safe mode)
    * Leave everything disabled
    * You should now have a working Firefox!
    Remove/update your add-ons as needed. I only had to upgrade Firebug in safe mode to get it working.
    Odd how the check for updates completely broke this Firefox, wonder what was so bad about Firebug.
    Hope this helps at least one other person! The "Run in Safe Mode" option is so hard to discover now when your browser is broken!

  • How can I retrieve my most recent tabs after I close Firefox?

    This is not a new problem for me - it has been going on for months and months, and I have wasted countless hours looking for a solution - so I decided to post a question on the forum, and hope for the best.
    The Problem: Whenever I close Firefox, it loses my most recent tabs, and there is NO way to get them back.
    Here's what I have tried:
    1. I set Firefox to automatically resume my previous session at startup. ( I did this a long time ago, and have not changed it since. ) When I restart Firefox ( without modifying the sessionstore.js file first ), I get an old session with all 5 of my tab groups present, but with two of them empty.
    2. Before restarting, I right-click on sessionstore.js, select Properties, click on the Previous Versions tab, click the latest Restore point, and apply. ( The latest restore point is always at least a week old. ) Now, sessionstore.js shows a size > 1000 KB. When I restart, I get the "embarassing" screen. Clicking Restore gives me exactly what was promised - the set of tab groups that I had over a week ago. This is the best I can do. It does NOT have my LATEST tabs.
    3. Before closing Firefox, I copy the sessionstore.js file from my Profile folder, and save it in a seperate folder on my desktop. ( This should contain any new tabs I just opened today, no? ) Then I close Firefox. Before restarting, I copy & paste the copy of sessionstore.js that I just saved into my Profile folder. When I restart, I get exactly the same results as in #2. The tabs I just opened today are gone.
    4. When I searched Mozilla support, I came across this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-restore-my-tabs-last-time?esab=a&as=aaq . It said "Note: In order to get your tabs and windows back from the previous session, you should close Firefox from the menu:
    At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select Exit." When I close Firefox in this manner, it makes absolutely no difference - the results are the same.
    5. A page in Mozilla support also suggested using the plugin Session Manager. I tried this, and all it does is make it easier to go through steps #2 or #3 - the results on restarting are the same.
    6. I tried writing a "Bug" to submit to the Mozilla developers, but it's way over my head!
    I can't believe that this is the way things are supposed to happen. Surely other people are having the same problem!

  • HT1773 Can I upgrade to 10.5 and buy the flawed Quicken Elements?

    Running 10.4.11 on an old iMac G5 and Quicken 2007 for Mac.  As of November I suddenly cannot download transactions from my bank (TD Bank).  After hours of telephone conversations with TD Bank's technical staff and Quicken Help, I have been informed that the bank transactions will no longer work on Quicken 2007 for Mac.  So, can I upgrade my 10.4.11 to a 10.5 and then buy the (Iknow badly flawed) Qucken Elements in order to maintain my Quicken bank transaction services (in place since 2003)?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Yes. Buy a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay.

  • I just got a new computer with Win 8.1 and everytime I open firefox I get dozens of popup windows.

    I turned this popup option off in the options. Why is this happening? They are all over the screen, some little popup windows and other are full size Firefox. It's driving me nuts. It doesn't happen when I use Chrome. But I don't like Chrome. I'm on Firefox 31.0

    I suspect a bad add-on. Since add-ons often are installed externally to Firefox, I suggest starting here:
    Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    Then, in Firefox, open the '''Add-ons page''' using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
    Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Finally, you can "mop up" remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools suggested in this support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
    Does that clear it up?
