Firefox 4.0 address bar shortcut - used to be F6 in older firefox versions, what about firefox 4?

Hey guys,
pretty much wat i;ve asked in the question bar,
Oldre firefox versions would let you type in an address by hitting F6 but what has this been changed to in firefox 4? I;ve tried various button combinations or has this been removed entirely?

There is a bug report concerning this, F6 will not work with tabs on top.

• Change firefox icon in address bar

I'm attempting to customize firefox to look like IE, don't ask why, trust me I don't want to. But anyway, I downloaded FoxE9, that kinda customizes firefox to look like ie9, which I think its the closest I'm gonna get.
Only problem Im running across is the firefox icon that is in the address bar on the left side, I think its called a favicon?
Is there any way to change or remove it? Also this is firefox portable version 26.

That isn't a correct action for the URL bar.

• Firefox mistakes the address bar as the search bar.

Everytime I go to do a Google search, I begin typing and all of a sudden, my text stops showing up in the search bar and begins to show up in the address bar. This also happens when I'm searching on YouTube and when I try to copy a link from the "Share" tab on a video, it automatically jumps to the address bar. Firefox seems to think it's now Google, I guess? It only does this on websites run by Google.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

• Apple Mail links will not open in Firefox. The address bar and page are blank.

I have just upgraded Firefox to version 4.0 and when I receive an email with a link in it, the link will not work. Firefox will load but the page is blank and the web address bar will sometimes show the link and sometimes not. If I cut and paste the address from the email it will not work.

In mail.app preferences there is a setting for RSS that lets one choose which program is the default RSS reader. Whichever program is set to be the default RSS reader is used by mail.app to open any urls in mail messages.
I really like my Mac but this is the most un-userfriendly, un-"it just works" thing I've run across in the 23 years I've been using Macintosh...

• FIrefox 20 - make address bar larger

Hi, I don't mind most the UI changes in Firefox 29, and am happy to adapt to the new interface. The only issue I'm having us that the address bar is too small. I am a web developer and constantly looking at URL slugs, and I need the address bar to be more visible. Is there any way to make it larger to see more of the URL? I also DO NOT want to rely on the "Classic Theme Restorer" addon. I use minimal Firefox addons , and I don't want to rely on a 3rd party addon, I would really just like to know how to increase the address bar length in Firefox 29 WITHOUT addons. As all I see right now is the SSL information an the first 10 characters of the URL, most of which are "https://ww", this is not very helpful for my use case.
Thank you,
--Tony

Nevermind, I "reset to default" and now it's all better now. :)

• Firefox 29 - transparent address bar

I have just upgraded to Firefox 29 and have managed to change the controls so it looks like the old version but I am unable to work out how to make the address bar and navigation buttons section transparent like they were before. Is there simple way to do this in Firefox settings or about:config or will I have to get an extension to restore this?

I tried the add-on but it made the navigation buttons transparent too so you could hardly see them and there was no separate setting to make the buttons properly visible.

• Gmail will only load basic view on all of my computers in my home. Firefox help says I am using outdated version while "about Firefox" says I am updated. sa

Gmail started only loading on basic view about five days ago. It will not load regularly on any of the three computers in my home. I checked my browser (Firefox) and when I click on Firefox help it says that I am using an outdated version but when I click on About Firefox to update it - it says that it is all ready updated to 4.0
I have cleared my cache and cookies.

You can download the latest Firefox 6.0.x version here:

• After every Firefox upgrade I am unable to use it. I have to uninstall it then reinstall Firefox. This happens every time there's an upgrade.

Firefox alerts everytime there's an upgrade available. I decline the upgrade because of crashes. Then Firefox automatically upgrades. When that happens I can no longer access the internet. I have to uninstall Firefox then go online via IE and reinstall Firefox. Once it it reinstalled it works fine. So my question is - why does an upgrade cause Firefox to stop working and how can I avoid that in the future?

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
*(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

• Want to upgrade to lastest version - help/about Firefox window does not show "upgrade" as in instructions.

I want to upgrade to latest version but -Help/About Firefox- window does not show "upgrade" as in the instructions. I cannot find an "upgrade" function anywhere else. How do I upgrade? The version I have is -18.0.1- it came with this used computer.
I believe this computer was hacked. Word started doing very strange things. We wiped the hard drive and reloaded everything as it was originally when I bought it. I am now getting hacked online.
They originally got into one of my credit cards last fall. That is when this all started. They got my AOL email address. They also got the credit card current balance, minimum payment, due date and then even the payment amount. They got into my Barnes & Noble account and now checkout does not work. Now I believe they have gotten into my AOL account - one thing after another has started going wrong. I cannot change that AOL user id/email address since it is the master and I would lose about 15 years of "stuff".
The folks that sold me this computer told me to use a free version of an antivirus. I am very unhappy with it. I never had ANY trouble when I used TrendMicro's expense products. Those folks also told me to use Firefox, since AOL uses Internet Explorer - which I already knew is like Swiss cheese.
Now, I cannot seem to get an upgrade of Firefox. Is this also a hack?
Please help any way you can. Thank you for your time.

It's probably just the Firefox updater having some problems. go to www.getfirefox.com and download Firefox 20.0.1

• Firefox connects to retrieve update but doesn't (connection window on for hours). However, "About Firefox" claims it's up to date although it's missing several updates.

I have Firefox set up to update automatically. The update window will occasionally pop open and remain in "connecting" mode for as long as the computer is on. Although this seemed odd, the process happens in the background so I'd assumed the updates were proceeding on schedule. Most importantly, the window "About Firefox", which I check to make sure the update occurred, does indeed indicate that Firefox is up to date. Today I visited the Mozilla site and realized I'm still using Firefox 5.01 when the current version seems to be 7. No idea about the status of plugins or any ancillary software.

hello, when this is happening after you've already updated firefox with your admin account, try to delete the updates folder and active-update.xml & updates.xml within the %localappdata% folder of your restricted account like it is described in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update#Software_Update_not_working_properly

• What about Firefox OS v.1.4, v.2.0 and so on?

Hi,
I would like to know when the releases v.1.4, v.2.0 of Firefox OS will be available. In fact, according to the roadmap of Firefox OS https://wiki.mozilla.org/B2G/Roadmap, the version v.1.4 should be already released on last June 2014 and the version v.2.0 on September 2014 https://wiki.mozilla.org/Release_Management/B2G_Landing.
The last available release of Firefox OS v.1.3 is https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/os/notes/1.3/ which is dated March 2014. Is Mozilla experimenting problems with Firefox OS? I'm an Android user that wants to migrate to Firefox OS, but it will be not possible until a decent development of the OS. I think that Firefox OS has great potential especially in term of freedom, privacy, openness and system requirements.
Thank you

Hi Albert,
the version 1.4 has been released https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/os/notes/1.4/ while the others not.
Bye

• Shorten firefox 33.1 address bar for longer bing bar

earlier versions of Firefox had "spacers" to add to accomplish such things. They are not to be found in the present version, at least not by me. Thanks, George Kunkel

You can place the mouse pointer between the location bar and the search bar and it will become a resize icon that you can drag right or left with the left mouse button pressed to change the relative width of the location bar and the search bar.
