  • HT201372 Both Mavericks and Yosemite stall at "One Second Remaining"

This has been a very disappointing experience and I am surprised that it came from Apple.  My wife's old Macbook Pro's HDD completely died and so I am replacing it, reinstalling OSX and then putting back what files we could salvage.
I have now tried to create a USB installer for OS X Mavericks and Yosemite.  When I tried the Yosemite installer the error log said it could not find a keychain related file and a decent hour after it said that only a second was remaining, the OS never installed.
Now I am trying Mavericks and the log gives many "Could not find package ref" errors and I am coming into an hour of waiting for "one second remaining" to finish and the install to work.
Seriously Apple?  This one of the worst and most frustrating installations I have ever done - and that's been a wide range of operating systems in the past.  The install program gives no human friendly error, no indication of what to do, no indication it will ever work.  Most posts seem to say "just wait" ...
Just wait?  How long is a user expected to wait for "about a second remaining" to last anyway?

At this point it looks like I will have to go to a Genius Bar just to installl OSX onto a Macbook Pro.  I can't or order a buy a Mavericks or Yosemite install, my wife's HDD is too shot to make a USB installer and it doesn't look like my other laptop will do it (for whatever reason - of which neither Apple nor the installation software can properly report - which is idiotic).
Utterly ridiculous that I have two laptops, the Internet and multiple flash drives but there doesn't seem to be a way to make this work.  Massive fail, Apple.  Massive.  Fail.

  • Cannot download Firefox, stops with 1 second remaining

Firefox crashed yesterday and I haven't been able to load it again. I cleared Firefox from my control panel and have not been successful in downloading firefox because it gets hung up with 1 second remaining. It is the Firefox setup 6.0.2 that stops downloading with 1 second remaining, though it does say 100% complete.

I turned off my Mcaffee, so the virus software was not the issue. I called my company's help desk and the person helping me was also perplexed, so I gave up on using Explorer to download Firefox. I installed Chrome to download Firefox and it did download completely. The problem I have now is that when I try opening Firefox, I receive a popup that says there was a problem and Firefox crashed. I tried opening Firefox in Safe Mode, but I get the same message about it crashing. Firefox has a help forum that I was reading for help and it recommends emailing Firefox with the crash details so they can figure out the problem. Well, Chrome works pretty well for me so that's what I'm using as my browser for now.

  • After downloading Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta to my desktop I restarted the computer, but I do not receive any prompts to create an account with a Secret Password. How do I set up the account if the prompt never show up?

Several months ago I installed the Firefox Home app on my iPhone to sync the bookmarks that I had on my Windows XP home computer. It has worked just fine until a few days ago. Just recently I was notified that the app would no longer work because of changes that have been made. I have tried to follow the instructions that were emailed to me regarding how to setup the new Firefox Sync add-on, but I am having a problem. After downloading Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta to my desktop and restarting my computer, I do not receive any prompts to create an account with a password and a secret phrase, as the instructions specify. How do I set up the account if the prompt never shows up?

Click on the Firefox button then select Options to open the Options dialog. Now go to the Sync panel for the option to setup a new account.

  • I downloaded Firefox 4.0 beta but can't open when clicked on icon or programs list

I downloaded firefox 4.0 beta on my Dell computer ( Vista ) on 2-23-11. I have internet explorer but cannot get into my blackboard learning system at Salt Lake Community college with that. Apparently, firefox is the preferred. My class is online, so this creates a real problem. Help, please, and quickly if possible. Thanks, Sally

After saving the file which is likely called "Firefox Setup 4.0.1.exe" you need to run it to install Firefox 4.
If you do not clear the downloads from the download manager, you can run the installer from the downloads manager. Open the download manager, then right-click on the Firefox setup file and select Open. As soon as you start running the setup file, close Firefox. You need to do this so that the setup file can replace the files in the Firefox installation directory.

  • I recently downloaded Firefox 6.0 beta and the message said that I

    Dear Firefox Staff Memb
I recently upgraded to Firefox 6.0 beta. Onscreen message said that Video Downloadhelper plugin cannot be used. What should I do? Retreat to the older version of Firefox or use something else to replace this plug in.
Thank you for taking care of my request.

  • How do I uninstall Firefox 4.0 Beta 12 and go back to the older vers

I made a mistake by downloading Firefox 4.0 Beta 12 and I can't work with this version. How do I go back to the older version. I need help quickly as I am unable to print my work. This is bad.

Firefox 4 is probably the most un-successful "new" Product since the "New Coke Formula" and the Ford Edsel!
It has been a '''DISASTER''' for me and many I know.
The cgi order form button on my own website does not work for anyone using Firefox 4.
Darn annoying and folks take ages ordering, press the button, assume it has gone though, and sadly nothing reaches me. Annoyed clients and large loss of money for me.
Tonight I tried to book a complicated multi city International itinerary on United Airlines site. Spent 30 minutes getting it right, went right to "Purchase" page and the SAME issue ..... click "BUY" button - and ZILCH.
Removed Firefox 4, did it all again, and worked fine using Firefox 3.6.
Thanks Firefox for wasting a good hour of my time tonight.
Tech boards all over the globe have reported these glitches for quite a while on order buttons, and the geeks there seem to be all asleep.
Bill Gates must be laughing his head off - and you now have ''Microsoft's VISTA'' on your hands.
They did not fix that either, and folks still use it as an example of an "UPDATE" that should never have been released as the bugs were never Beta Tested out.

  • Firefox 4.0 beta is not opening a window when I try to start it up

  • When and where can I get the firefox 31 ESR beta?

The current beta download on http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/#beta is v30.0b9, is that it? (if so, why not v31.09b?) (Also, my platform is Linux)

The current Firefox ESR version is still a Firefox 24 version (24.6.0).
It usually takes about a week for the next beta to appear, so this might be the case for the Firefox 31 ESR version.
You can keep an eye on this folder list to see if anything about esr31 will appear:

  • Where's the MD5 or SHA-1 or SHA-256 etc. for the beta downloads?????

there are no links to the checksums on the beta downloads page. Loads of advertising though. The difficulty of entering this support information would thwart over 95% of all feedback. This is so obvious but what is also continuously obvious to me is the incompetence of software organizations (commercial or open source). PULL YOUR HEADS OUT. Never make someone search for duplicate bugs on a bug submission page. You people make spyware CHROME look viable!!!

  • Why doesn't my Firefox 4.0 Beta 3 Look like the beta 1 in the video? Like, where is the yellow firefox button?

Ok, so i've been looking froward to the new beta, and i always wanted the yellow Firefox button and the smart download section, instead of the old pop-up one witch is annoying by the way.
I'm currently using the Firefox 4.0 Beta 3.
And the only thing that is changed is that the taps on the top..
but it's not see through or anything like in the preview videos.
    Please help!

Some of the new things are not shown by default in XP but easily established.
Right click on a toolbar space and
    * Uncheck the Menu Bar; this will hide the Menu Bar and show the orange Firefox Button in the top left hand corner. You can toggle from one to the other.
    * Check Tabs on Top. This will move the Tab Bar above the Navigation Bar - remember you are not showing the Menu Bar. I must admit that I prefer tabs in their traditional place where they are nearer the web page action.
For moved and combined buttons this will help -

I hope this is what you are after.

  • Why can't I open up Firefox 4.0 Beta again? One time only?

Yesterday I downloaded a preview of Firefox 4.0 Beta 1 and had a blast playing with it but this morning I went to try it out again and now its just back to normal Firefox 3.6. I double-clicked the new 4.0 icon in multiple places, (i.e. Start Menu, Desktop) and still nothing just regular ol' Firefox 3.6.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I went to reopen Firefox this morning

I was running 3.6.6 on my XP computer and I can run both 4.0b and 3.6.6 just fine.
If you go to C:\Program Files you will probably notice that there is a Mozilla Firefox folder and a Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 1 folder. Make sure you have closed whatever Firefox window you have open and then open the firefox.exe from the Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 1 folder.
The executable files for the two versions of Firefox are different, so you have to make sure your shortcuts are aimed at the right one.

  • When I click on the home icon - all tabs I've previoulsy used and have closed pop back up. Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 7

A few days a go I had installed iMesh, but FF took forever to load. I uninstalled iMesh and all my stored passwords were gone. I then did a system recovery. And everything was back to normal.
Yesterday when I downloaded a video using youtube downloader I got a there's a newer version. I installed the newer version. After it was installed the previously closed tabs started popping up.

Check your list of home pages, Firefox can store multiple home pages. For details of how to do that see the [[How to set the home page]] article.

  • Firefox prompted me to download an incompatible update that its website claims is compatible with my operating system (Mac OS 10.4.11). Why prompt an incompatible download AND claim it is compatible?

I have an iMac and use OS 10.4.11 & Firefox 3.6.19. Firefox prompted me to download an update (to 7.0.1). I looked up the system requirements on your website, and it stated the update is compatible with OS 10.4.11. But after I downloaded and installed the update, it failed to work on grounds of incompatibility. Hence 2 questions: (1) Why did Firefox prompt me to download an incompatible update? (2) Why did your website claim the update is compatible with my operating system when it is not?

Sorry, it's because Firefox 4+ are only compiled for the Intel processors.
There is a separate project for PPC Macs called Ten Four Fox. You might give it a spin when you're tired of 3.6.
