Firefox 4.0 i want my bookmarks on left side of page-how do i do that

just got a new computer and put on mozilla 4.0 i made a few bookmarks but want it to appear on left side of screen whenever i open a tab. how do i do this

Press CTRL+I
- or -
Right click a blank part of the tab bar and go to "Customize". A panel will open and in there, you'll find a button with a star on it slightly right of centre. Drag that to the toolbar and then close the panel. You can subsequently open bookmarks in the left panel with that afterwards. See screenshot.

Click the round flag icon bottom right corner of the App Store window. In the next window select United States.
For purchases, your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside.

    Put it there.
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of the old computer to your new one.
It will not magically appear anywhere.  It will only be where you put it.

  • When I SYNC, my bookmarks are still on a work computer, even though I've closed out of Firefox. NO ONE wants their bookmarks to stay around at work.

So, the reason I decided to try Firefox Sync is that I recently discovered that when I sign out of my Google Account, it turns out that my bookmarks were still all there on Chrome on multiple different work computers (I'm an independent contractor & work at many unrelated locations, so clearly, this was a serious security problem with Chrome & they had no way to help it. None. Whatsoever. And it was happening to other users, probably unknowingly)
So, I used Firefox Sync today with a work computer & yep, when I clicked the red EXIT FIREFOX button in the settings, & then reopened Firefox to check, there were all my bookmarks. I do not see a LOGOUT option for SYNC. Just a Delete my account or change my password option under Manage Account or a DISCONNECT option under Options. The Disconnect popup says this: "Firefox will stop syncing with your account, but won’t delete any of your browsing data on this computer."
So, I didn't use the DISCONNECT or DELETE MY ACCOUNT options because when I tried the disconnect option on Chrome, it deleted most, but not all of the bookmarks on ALL of my devices & I would've lost all hundreds of my bookmarks had I not made a copy of them from my non-logged-in tablet.
NO ONE wants their bookmarks available to anyone else who opens the browser on the same computer just because they synced once w/ their Firefox account or logged into their Google account.
If there is NO way to log out & remove the USER-SPECIFIC--NOT device- or browser-specific-- bookmarks & other potentially problematic info, then this should be made CLEAR in an informative article if someone chooses to SYNC.
No one would ever SYNC if they ever used a computer that is not their own if they knew that their bookmark info were left on the browser.
Is there a SYNC logout option that I missed that makes this question irrelevant? I hope so. Otherwise, I guess I'll be emailing a bookmarks file to myself for temporary work use & then deleting it.
If I sign in to Yahoo! or Facebook or any shopping site, etc, when I logout & clear the cache & cookies, etc, like I always do, my info is gone. It doesn't show up the next time someone opens the browser.
I even changed the settings in SYNC to NOT synce the bookmarks, but they were still there when I reopened Firefox.
    thanks.
    Christine

Actually, it's not obvious & common sense would dictate that users' bookmarks would not be left stuck to random computers even once they've logged out of the account. No one wants that if it's a public work computer or if they're traveling & use an Internet cafe. As I am not the only one who has noticed this issue or had bookmarks disappear/be deleted, in addition, common sense would indicate it's not really a very good system. And carrying around a flashdrive to run Firefox off of it is a good solution? Really? Just curious why a useful feature such as being able to login & use your preferences & bookmarks & then logging out removes your preferences when you're gone hasn't been developed. Yahoo keeps my preferences when I logout (it's called My Yahoo!). Maybe a My Firefox or My Chrome solution could be developed.

  • After upgrading to Windows 8, FireFox only brought in A-C. Bookmarks were arranged in folders. How do I import?

After upgrading one of our PCs to Windows 8, not all of the bookmarks were in FireFox upon opening the browser for the first time after the upgrade. Only A-C were brought in. We've tried several methods of getting the rest back into the browser with no such luck.
The folder where all the bookmarks are housed was found and backed up. The problem as I see it is that all of the individual bookmarks were sorted into Folders. When the main Bookmarks folder is opened, it contains individual pages (similar to what one would see if they saved the page as a .html page, instead of printing or another save method), and then there are subfolders, that contain even more individual pages. (If this is confusing, I can post an image or a link to an image.) In order to access a bookmarked page, we currently have to go to File Explorer, navigate to the Bookmarks folder, search through the links (which show as the full URL) and folders, to click on the url to have it open in the default browser.
As far as I've been able to discern, through research and trial-and-error, these won't be read by FireFox in the format they are as I view them currently; they need to be in one single .html with links and sublinks, not individual clickable pages. But since they are no longer viewable in the Bookmarks section in FireFox, I am unable to Export them to the correct format.
How do I get *all* of the bookmarks back into FireFox's Bookmarks menu dropdown?
    Thanks.
(Btw, the computer/browser I'm using are not the PC in reference above, in fact, it is not even a PC, so please do not use any info that may show regarding any automatically inserted text about the "internal workings of [my] browser, as it is of no value to this issue.)

The disk folder you're describing sounds a lot like the Windows Favorites folder. That's actually completely independent from Firefox's bookmark storage.
After your upgrade, did you freshly install Firefox? In that case, the problem might be an incomplete import of your Windows Favorites (IE Favorites) instead of an incomplete recovery of your old Firefox bookmarks.
To see whether you still have your Firefox bookmarks, in your backup -- for example, the C:\Windows.old\ folder, or a backup on external media -- could you try to track down a folder named '''bookmarkbackups'''. By default, this is hidden folder, so you may need to turn on viewing of hidden files and folders. This article has the steps: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files].
Let me know what you find and then I can suggest next steps.

  • How can I display all bookmarks on left side of window without opening library?

I usually have a bookmarks view (NOT the toolbar) open in the left side of the Firefox window. It shows all my bookmarks, much as the library view does, but not in a separate window. After Firefox crashed, I restarted a "new session" and the bookmarks were not visible. The help files only talk about the bookmarks toolbar, not what I'm looking for.

You can open the Bookmarks in the sidebar via View > Sidebar > Bookmarks (Ctrl+B)<br />
Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
You can find toolbar buttons to open the bookmarks and the history in the sidebar in the toolbar palette and drag them on a toolbar.<br />
Firefox 4 has two bookmark buttons with a star in the Customize window.<br />
One star button has a drop marker that open a Bookmark menu.<br />
The other star button without the drop marker opens the bookmarks in the sidebar.<br />

  • How do I delete the search feature from the bookmarks section (left side of the window when open)? Just the search feature in bookmarks.

I don't know if it's always been there, but there is a search box now at the top of my Bookmarks toolbar that opens on the left side of my window. When the Bookmarks toolbar is open the first thing is Bookmarks and the X to close bookmarks. Just below that is a search box. I don't have a lot of bookmarks and don't want the search box. How do I get rid of the search box?

Sounds that you have the bookmarks sidebar open.
*Toggle the Bookmarks sidebar on/off via "View > Sidebar > Bookmarks" or Ctrl+B (Command+B on Mac)
*Toggle the History sidebar on/off via "View > Sidebar > History" or Ctrl+H (Command+H on Mac)
You can find toolbar buttons to open the bookmarks (star) and the history (clock) in the sidebar in the toolbar palette and drag them on a toolbar.<br />
There are two bookmark buttons with a star in the Customize window.<br />
One star button has a drop marker that open a Bookmark menu (you may not see the drop marker in the Customize window).<br />
The other star button without the drop marker opens the bookmarks in the sidebar.

  • Mozilla crashed yesterday and now bookmarks are not showing along the left side of page as they did before. They are on the menu bar but hubby does not like this location. Anyway I can get it back to the left side of the page?

This spring we changed from IE to Mozilla after upgrading to Win 7. Everything has been fine with Firefox until yesterday when it crashed when I attempted to open an email. Since then the bookmarks (or favorites as my husband calls them) have not been in their usual place which was along the left side of the page. They are located in the Bookmarks bar at the top of the page but husband prefers the old IE way which we had until yesterday PM. Is there any way that we can get them back to the left side of the page other than going back to IE? Now that I have gotten used to Firefox I like it just fine.
