Firefox 4.0 will not download.

My computer is a MacBook Pro 10.6.6. I automatically subscribe to the Foxfire updates. This morning I received one for Firefox to be updated to 4.0
I have attempted three times to do such and it will NOT download. Currently my Firefox is 3.6.16.
Can you assist me, with ease. I am 70 years old and not to savvy about computers, considering I just started back in 2001.
Thanks,
Michael Sherwood.

Same problem, but I'm on OSX 10.5.8 - non Intel mac.
Wording is actually "... because it is not supported on this architecture."
Ironic that I have to use Safari to post this. :)

There's no 3.6.18, so there appears to be a glitch in the update checking. Or the message is not really from Firefox (malware site).

  • Firefox crashes and will not download, stops at 1 sec.

Firefox crashed Tuesday am. I download firefox from the internet and it ran fine all day. Today I had to restart my computer and firefox crased when I tried to start it. I could not download firefox. It would download 100% of the file but would show 1 sec remaining and not go further.

  • Firefox 4.0 will not download at all, I get the circle with a slash. I have mac osx.

I had firefox 3.6, downloaded free upgrade, which totally replaced the old one, it's gone.
But the new icon has a circle and slash on it and is not viable. Doesn't work, doesn't open, messages says: You cannot open the application Firefox.app because it is not supported on this system.

  • Firefox install executable will not download files and install.

I cannot install firefox on my windows 7 pro machine. I have downloaded the ver 22 installer executable and when I run it, it never gets past the "Downloading.." progress bar. It looks as though the DL never starts. I am running Win7 64 bit Pro SP1, on a HP elitebook laptop. I have left the installer running for over an hour and it is never able to download.
    System specs:
    Intel Core i7 2.4GHz

Please only download and install Firefox from the official Mozilla servers to avoid getting infected with malware.

  • Firefox will not download and neither will any other program, ever since I accidentally deleted it.

I tried to clear a history and accidentally trashed firefox, It disappeared from my dock, so I opened Safari and tried to re-install firefox. Now, it will not download. Nothing from any site will download at all. What do I do?

It sounds as though your PC is infected with fake antivirus software. The detailed cleanup instructions vary depending on which fake AV you have. However, as a first step, try this:
Download the following on a different PC, copy them to a USB flash drive or CD, and then run them on the infected PC:
    Malwarebytes Anti-malware : http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
    SUPERAntiSpyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/
Hopefully these will get you back online safely. If not, search for clean-up instructions for the specific malware.

Can you start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> by holding down the Shift/Options key?
You can use one of these to start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u>:
*On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
*On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox will not download on mac OSX10.8.5. Stops at 15 seconds to go.

Firefox will not download onto my mac OSX 10.8.5. It stops at 15 seconds to go. HELP!!

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop
    *Firefox 25.0.1: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Mac
Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data when you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • When I download Firefox, my computer will not install and claims it is corrupt

When i download Firefox, my computer will not run the install and claims the file is corrupt.

Firefox versions 3.0 and higher require OSX 10.4 and higher:
[ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/mac/en-US/Firefox%202.0.0.20.dmg Firefox version 2.0.0.20] is the last ever version of Firefox for OSX 10.3.9 and lower.
However, I would think about finding/creating an unofficial build of Firefox 3 for older Mac (if you cannot get next version of Mac OSX). If it's possible. I don't know.
