Firefox 4.0b.11 plugin container.exe using 20.24% CPU .. Why
Environment:
Windows 7 64bit
4GB Ram / 750GB HDD
Firefox up and running with 9 tabs open, and firefox is minimized as I am working on something else. Any idea's why so much CPU for container.exe if its just sitting there.
See [[Firefox consumes a lot of CPU resources]].
Try also to update your graphic driver, if it is not up-to-date, as HW acceleration can also caused your problem.

Plugin-container.exe using 40% of cpu
== Issue
==
Firefox is having problems with certain web sites
== Description
==
FYI, (thanks to all developers)
I rarely go to porn sites but the popunder-windows they generate caused the plugin-container.exe to use 40% of cpus (2 cpu). This is after I had closed all tabs and left my computer unattended. This popunder-window might have very-very-unusually slipped my attention due to my errand.
Thanks again

Firefox opening with 2 plugin-container.exe
recently updated my flash to the latest and noticed a bit of slow down (this is an older computer) checked out my process and were as when i used to open firefox i would only get 1 firefox process and 1 Plugin-container.exe i was now getting those,and Extra Plugin-container.exe and 2 flash process so i reverted to the last flash uodate and it got rid of the flash process and it was a bit faster but i still have 2 Plugin-container.exe every time i load firefox
one just sits there using around 2,500 k all the time and i can manually close it with it not messing a single thing up flash and everything else works just fine and it no re opening itself so anyone know how i can get rid of this Extra Plugin-container.exe so every time i open firefox its not just taking up space and slowing me downhello every plugin is running in its different container in order to enhance stability and security of the browser. this is normal behaviour and not detriment to your computer's performance.
please refer to the following blog post, that explains why there are more porcesses running with the new adobe flash plugin: http://blogs.adobe.com/asset/2012/06/inside-flash-player-protected-mode-for-firefox.html -
Plugin-container.exe using alot of resources
Im using latest version of firefox but when i use flash player on websites like bc iplayer i notice my system is hanging and i found out it was plugin-container.exe using alot of resources.
I have latest flash player installed also
How can i stop thisThere are some compatibility issues between the latest Flash player and some Firefox add-ons or settings. Could you see whether anything in this article helps: [[Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox]].
You might also consider disabling the new protected mode in Flash 11.3, since that feature is currently being debugged. See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493 Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?] -
Plugin-container.exe from firefox sometimes uses up to 95% of my computer resources and needs to be manually shut down by way of task manager or in the last resort of a manual log-off/hard reset (pushing the power button) At this rate NO browser will work on my pc under win7 ... i have gone through chrome (constantly crashed pc) IE (last resort, still installed useless for most websites)
and a couple others that just did not play nice. What gives?There is a possibility that you have a malware problem, maybe you need to investigate that.
* see [[is my firefox problem a result of malware]]
If the problem is occurring as you clear cookies, or history (possibly on close-down of Firefox) then it may be caused by a known bug in Firefox. (Bug 633427 ) -
Why does plugin-container.exe hog so much cpu usage?
When FF is running with some application (ie flash or maybe shockwave) or some type of embedded function, the cpu usage for plugin-container is generally between 60 and 80 percent. This causes extreme lag and reduced functionallity. Quite frankly it is extremely annoying to have things run so slowly.
Somehow this bug came up on my radar yesterday later in the day: the first two comments indicate different plugins, and the third refers to the Acrobat plugin:
<blockquote>This seems to happen if Adobe Reader is used for displaying PDF documents (pdfjs.disabled set to true and Preferences > Applications > PDF to "Adobe Reader (in Firefox)").<br><br>Opening two tabs displaying PDFs and closing one crashes the other one.<br><br>Was able to reproduce with Firefox 36.0.1 and Adobe Reader plugin "Adobe Acrobat 11.0.10.32". When I tried to reproduce it later again in the same profile (or on Nightly and Beta), the tab didn't crash.</blockquote>
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1113190
Sounds like your issue, but it's puzzling that they got a tab to crash and in your case only plugin-container.exe crashed. -
All extensions and add ons are disables other then flash player. Flash player is needed for the webpage.
Reboot. Uninstall Firefox, then use another browser to download and install a new copy of Firefox from mozilla.org/firefox - see [[Installing Firefox on Windows]] for more help.

The plugin-container.exe is using 100% cpu usage???
After I open a few different pages or tabs within the pages, the plugin-container.exe max's my cpu usage and the system hangs horribly. It comes back and then hangs again. The plugin-container is reasonable new, because I don't recall seeing it in the Task Manager. Is there a way to fix this?? I know it's related to some apple piece of garbage software that I could totally do without if that helps.
ThanksPlugin-container was introduced in Firefox 3.6.4 to run certain plugins in isolation from the browser, so that when an offending plugin crashes, it does not crash the entire browser, just the tab with the offending plugin. There is information about plugin-container and a method to disable plugin-container in the following article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
If you disable plugin-container, your entire browser will crash if a plugin crashes. If you choose to disable plugin-container, restart Firefox to be sure that plugin-container closes; once started, plugin-container remains open until you restart Firefox. -
plugin-container.exe is making my cpu get to 100% immediately i go online.
i first thought i got a virus somewhere, but no virus scan could find it. only then i checked the cpu usage to see what makes it go crazy, and it's plugin-container.exe, a program i thought legit, else i would've searched and destroyed it. turns out i'm not the only one having this trouble so guys, please do something about it. in the mean time i'm going back to 3.6.3 and hoping you solve this soon.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== after the update to 3.6.6.I found the way to stop using plugin-container.exe from somewhere and it works.
Steps to stop plugin-container.exe process:
* Open Firefox web browser.
* Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter key.
* A warning will appear. Ignore it and press the "I』ll be careful, I promise!" button.
* In the Filter field type dom.ipc. Six preferences will appear for the filter dom.ipc.
* Ignore first and last preferences. Toggle (double-click) each of the four remaining preferences to change the value from "true" to "false".
Explanation: The crash protection feature in Firefox 3.6 is enabled for certain plugins only. The four preferences that we modified here specifies four different out-of-process plugins. They are the the NPAPI test plugin, Adobe Flash, Apple QuickTime (Windows) and Microsoft Silverlight (Windows). These plugins are specified in a separate dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.<filename> preference by default is set to true. We can disable them by changing their value to false. And thus plugin-container.exe will not run. By default the preference dom.ipc.plugins.enabled is already set to "false". So, no need to touch it. The dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs is also not important here as other values are false. -
plugin-container.exe is a disaster and looking at previous forums it has been so for at least a year without any resolution. As I said before at one stage this was using 94% of my CPU and my system was reduced to a snails pace.
Surely Firefox should give some useful alternative.
EmjayelTry going to http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck and see if your plugins are out of date.

I am using fire fox 5.0 (after using 3.6 for what seems like forever) and the plugin-container.exe has been sucking up my CPU power like a vampire. It had been doing that in 3.6 but not as much. I figured if I upgraded the problem would go away, but no, it has not. After reading some other similar posts, I ran Firefox in safe mode with no plugins running and sure enough after browsing for a bit it started running slower and used 90-100% of my CPU. Is there any way to fix this issue? Or am I doomed? Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.
That's supposed to show you the problem isn't Firefox, don't know how successful that actually is. You can delete it so that it starts up again. Susggest restarting Firefox when you see it has used about an hour of CPU time as the next hour of CPU time will take shorter to get there and you will be locked out.
Also see this -- the solution on all the items seem to fix a lot of problems with the places.sqlite database.

When use "Clear history" firefox 4 create to much processus plugin-container.exe process
Hi,
When i clear History , Cookie, etc.... i see in the process manager any more process for plugin-container.exe
See screenshot : http://i52.tinypic.com/spvtq1.pngTwice recently my main XP system has begun to run extremely slowly and has taken a very long time to shut down. Investigating yesterday, I found that plugin-container.exe was hogging memory, using 250Mb. Available memory went don as low as 6 Mb. As I closed programs it grabbed more, eventually peaking at 400Mb. There were several tabs open, so I closed them one by one, and it was clear that one web site had triggered this problem. I suspect that there had also been memory leakage, with an area of memory no longer available. Eventually the system did close down, but it took 20 minutes. Firefox 4.0.1 is installed.
Same problem occurred with a laptop on which 4.0.1 has just been installed. -
In looking at Windows Task Manager I found that plugin-container.exe was taking over 100% of my CPU and my system was frozen. Is this a memory leak or other bug?
Thank you! I have been having problems with Adobe Flash since downloading the new 11.1 version. I will download it again and reinstall it, hopefully that will correct the problem.
-
My computor had been overly slow which was not normal when looking at processes running in task manager I found plugin-container.exe to be using alot of memory. I looked online and found that this was an update of firefox which was not essential, I then looked on my C:\ drive for the application and deleted it hoping this would solve the problem as I could not find it when looking at my firefox plugins. However now when I open firefox it quickly crashes, how can I reinstall this? Do I need to reinstall firefox completely or is there a more simple solution? I have done the firefox plugin check and it can find no problems.
Probably the easiest way is to download Firefox again from http://www.mozilla.com and re-install it.
If you want to disable plugin-container, see the section on "Disabling crash protection" at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
