Firefox 4 appears to be causing my graphics card to stop responding for no reason, since upgrading to 4.0.

I'm not sure if its a common occurance for other users, but since the 'hardware accelerated support' with Firefox 4 release, firefox seems to regularly cause my graphics card (Nvidea GT320M) on my laptop to 'stop responding' for a few seconds every so often, usually when I have flash websites such as youtube open. It isn't a huge deal since it restarts working again after a few seconds of a black screen, but its annoying non-the-less.
An example of such: earlier today i started up firefox 4, and when it was loading the tabs, the screen turned black, and when the screen came back on, pop up in the windows task bar told me that the graphics card had stoped responding but successfully recovered. Not the first time, but becoming a more regular occurrence.

You seem to be running older versions of Flash and Java plugins. I'd recommend you update to the latest versions first of all to see whether the problem persists or not.
The easiest way to check is to go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page.
If that fails to solve the problem, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it works correctly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

I'm not aware of any, not to say that there aren't any issues.
it may have nothing to do with ntpd, there are a lot of things running.
ntpd just happen to make the log entry at the same time as the panic.
I would check to see if there are any updates available for you system.

if this happens more frequently and that traces look the same, then
there may be a real problem that needs to be looked into further.

  • Firefox 15.1 stops responding for no apparent reason!

As the title says, Firefox 15.1 stops responding for no apparent reason!
I just did a re-format of my system disk and I re-installed Vista 64-bit on it. I have obviously re-installed everything from Windows updates to chipset, graphics and sound drivers. I also pulled down the latest and greatest version of Firefox which at the time is 15.1. So installed that too.
Every now and then Firefox just stops responding for no apparent reason. It looks like it is processing the request (after clicking a link etc.) but it then it's just a silence... nothing happens!
It doesn't even say it can't load the page and Windows doesn't even say that it has stopped responding. Not even after I click like crazy on the Firefox interface like different buttons and tabs and on the web page... not even then does it say "not responding" in the title bar of the window, which is usually the case when you deal with programs that are not responding immediately (you get that dialog that asks you if you would like to close the program or search for solutions online). Just nothing!... it's only quite and does nothing....
At the same time, all other programs are working flawlessly, such as the Explorer (Windows Explorer), or even Internet Explorer. And Internet connection is not lost!
I have no add-ons or extensions installed whatsoever. I just installed Firefox! I haven't even had the time to install Java yet. All I have is Adobe Flash player. That's the only extra. Otherwise it's in its' original form, default settings, etc, etc, etc.
Why is it acting up like this?...
I'm surprised that there even is such a thing as Firefox 15. This one came at the end of August, correct?
I have been on Firefox 14.x something before I re-installed Vista. For a good reason so! This is why I hate the new update model of Firefox and I don't jump on the next train (version) unless it's safe and I'm having compatibility issues with the one I use at the moment. This is why my first step after installing Firefox always is to disable automatic updates! I hate it when the software vendors are pushing out their latest software versions forcefully.
Frankly, I think this new Firefox version of yours is crap. It's not properly tested and it doesn't belong in the official release channel. This is more like a nightly build or something. It probably has some memory leak, despite the promises made by Firefox engineers that it will not have memory leaks and that it would be the fastest version of Firefox ever. I don't really need a faster browsing, I need a stable browser for reliable browsing. The speed of this Firefox version is close to ZERO! When it's not responding at all...
I have been a fan of Firefox since 0.8. I will be probably ditching this latest version and going back to an older version like 13 or 14 that's more closer to the reality and not in this fantasy world of fastest, greatest, latest, version this, version that, latest features. I just want a browser that works man!... I'm getting tired of Firefox. I may even ditch it altogether in favor of.... I don't know.... Safari?... Chrome?.... I might even go back to Internet Explorer after like 12 years of absence.

please try to uninstall the adobe flash plugin from the windows control panel. afterwards manually delete any leftover files in ''C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash'' and download & install the plugin again (uncheck the option to install the bundled security software): www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

  • Graphic Driver has stopped responding but recovered ERROR

I have had this issue since I put windows 7 on my s12.
Graphic card driver stops working, usually when coming from sleep or the screen saver.  Usually the screen goes black for a few seconds,  Now its worse and never restores, the maching must be forced shutdown and restarted.
The most recent drivers are installed.  I will have to take care of this before the warranty is up.
Any experience with this sort of thing for the s12?

I found a newer driver on the Intel website
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 for Windows 7 32 bit* (.zip) Installs graphics driver version 15.12.75.50.5.2117 (8.14.10.2117) for the integrated graphics controller of Intel® chipsets for Windows 7*.
if you look at the driver history the problem is a known bug since 15.12.75.50.1.1972 revision. I also suffer from small corruption at the top of the screen when first booting. I'm going give it a try and report back.
Link to info: Release Notes and here is the link to  Intel Graphics Driver incase someone else wants give it a go.
     Intel 3150 Windows 7 Driver 7 8.14.10.2117
Edit Mod : Correct the Links/Click above to work
    Update:
I installed the new drivers and still have the same problem. It's an Intel known issue and will just have to wait for a fix. I does happen less often.

  • Firefox stops responding for 15s when starting downloads.

Every time I start a new download, Firefox will stop responding for around 15 seconds. During this time, nothing happens, my CPU usage spikes, and many downloads will subsequently fail if they do not support a resume feature. This is extremely frustrating. I have tried reinstalling, disabling add-ons, and clearing my download history daily, all to no avail. I'm tempted to switch back to Firefox 3.x. I know this doesn't apply here, but Nightly does the same thing.
I've got a C2D @ 3.16, 8 GB DDR2 1066, and a WD VelociRaptor 300 GB HDD as my primary (where files are saved temporarily), so I know it's not the system that's struggling.

I managed to solve this problem as my computer has been giving me problems lately and completely froze on me the other day thanks to Game Booster Beta 3 and completely screwed with Windows 7 to the point I almost had to reinstall again, but I managed to fix all my problems and if you would just follow my link here over to my post on Seven Forums then it would be easier then explaining it again.
http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/180714-windows-7-professional-64-bit-logs-but-almost-frozen-3.html#post1550277 The reason for this is if you shut down your computer while running Firefox, it's possible you corrupted your User Profile for FF and if you follow my instructions you can repair it instead of making a new, so just follow the link, read my post and if you have anymore problems just message me on Seven Forums. Have a nice day and hopefully you get it all fixed. :b

  • What upgrade graphic card do i need for a early 2008 mac pro

I have a early 2008 Mac Pro.  ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB is what i have now.  What is a good upgrade graphic card to get.

The GTX 780 6GB runs fine on the dual PCIe internal power cables -- as does the GTX 680 and Radeon HD 7950. The same can't be said of the GTX TITAN or GTX 780 Ti or Radeon R9 280X -- all of which require an auxiliary power feed to avoid a nasty power down of your tower at the worst moment when too much wattage is demanded of the Mac Pro's factory power supply.
Did I mention that the GTX 780 with 6GB of GDDR5 matches the 6GB of GDDR5 in the TITAN?
The one fallacy to my 'sweet spot' award has to do with OpenCL. In case you hadn't noticed, the AMD Radeon GPUs smoked the NVIDIA GeForce GPUs running Photoshop's OpenCL accelerated Iris Blur filter and rendering LuxMark's OpenCL accelerated Room scene.
So depends on budget, whether you want a PC card for less but no "early EFI boot screen" prior to drivers loading, and what apps and needs you have.
The one thing for sure is that 2600XT should have been retired ages ago and even more so with 10.8.3 and above, it could be trouble or just... PITA/POS.

  • Which Graphics Card do I need for H520S

I have a few questions for you lovely people out there and hope you can help.
My son has asked me for a new Graphics card for his PC.(Not a xmas present)
On an old post it was suggested that an Nvidia Geforce GT620 1Gb or an AMD Radeon HD7570 2Gb were the ones to go for. Is this still the case or are there newer/ better cards available.
    I have a reasonable budget of £100 ($160)
If these are the cards to upgrade his PC with, will I need to upgrade the PSU? If so what unit do you suggest.
I would need the graphics card and PSU combined to be near my budget.
Lastly, Is it easy to install the graphics card and PSU (If needed) myself or would I need specialist help.
    Hoping you can help
    Happy Christmas
    Mark

so i now need a new graphics card so i only have to use the new Mac mini port connecting cable, but which card to buy and should i remove the older card.
Replacing the graphics card will do nothing to help you unless your current card doesn't have a dual link DVI port (most all 2 DVI port G5 cards do have at least one dual link DVI port).
There are NO graphics cards that will work in the G5 that have mini display port.
I don't want to use multi cable connections
Using a dual link DVI port from a G5 graphics card, connection to the iMac via the Atlona adapter is the only way to achieve use of the iMac as a monitor with a G5.

  • Upgrading to iMac 5K or Mac Pro.  Is there a list of Graphics Cards that are optimized for Premier Pro CC?

A couple of years ago I remember Adobe listed Graphics Cards that were optimized to work best with Rendering in Premier Pro and other applications.  I have Creative Cloud so I have access to latest versions.
The iMac 5K Retina has a choice of AMD Radeon R9 M290X and M295X.
The Mac Pro has Options of AMD FirePro d300, D500 etc.
Does anyone have any idea where I can find out what graphic cards are optimized for Premier Pro an other applications from Adobe?
    Thanks...
    Chris Moody

If you are not in the 4K business --> I would go for the 32 GB & 27" iMac w/o Retina, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M mit 4 GB GDDR5 (CUDA support) will give you quite a good performance, i.e. with a Thunderbolt connected Raid6 system your 2K projects (including some color correction and other plugins) will work well and you can even use the system as 4k starter/test system.
If you in the 4K business you could use a full blown iMac Retina system with a GPU AMD Radeon R9 M295X mit 4 GB GDDR5 together with an already mentioned TB Raid6 system. As described from the forum-compatriots, this non-CUDA card doesn't perform too well on GPU accelerated functions of PPro --> but --> search this forum... you will be surprised....some workflows are nearly unaffected....
If you are in the high end 4K footage busine$$ and you apply a lot of external color correction to your 4k footage (e.g. BM DaVinci) I would go for a MPro with 2 D700 cards.

  • What graphics cards will stop mac os x from booting?

I'm getting a gaming graphics card to run things like COD4, Supreme Commander, Crysis, and UT3 on my Mac Pro under windows. I'm considering a few - ati 4870, nvidia gtx 260, or the 8800 gts (g92) on the cheaper end.
I know some cards will actually prevent Mac OS X from booting, and don't want to purchase any card which will do that. Does anyone know if any of these cards will do that?

I thought Rob (Barefeats) went into what works, how to use the 4870 and 280.
A lot of cards won't allow you to boot if present in OS X at all and need to be removed. Some have other side effects like fans running on high.
Yes, there are two aux power connectors.
Most any PC card works natively in Windows.
And the 2008 Mac Pro is fortunate in having two 16x slots which is a luxury we lack.
If a card doesn't have video out during early boot before any OS loads and is controlled by EFI at that point in the process, you can't use the OPTION key for instance to choose which system drive to boot from, for instance.

In simple words the problems is that your mainboard is too old and don't have PCI-E slot...
Read the replies which you have above 1st..
As mates and MSI Tech as well notified you can't use PCI-E VGAs into your board...
You need a AGP one, here is examples of VGA's that can use:
    Ati: (few good choices)
    Radeon X1950PRO: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1146&maincat_no=130&cat2_no=137

At all you can use any AGP VGA... Just make sure that your PSU is powerfull enough.

  • MacBook's Graphic card - is it enough for a web dev daily use?

    Hello folks,
    I have a question about MacBook's graphic card. (Intel GMA 950 - 64 MB - DDR2 - shared)
I'm going to buy a MacBook. I'm a web developer working daily with editors, browsers, databases and graphic softwares (like FireWork, Photoshop, etc)
Is MacBook's graphic card enough for my works? What about running Leopard on it? Is it capable of running it and the softwares I use?
What's the benefits of having a 128 MB graphic card (like what's in MBP 15) for someone like me?
    Thank you all in advance,

    Hi, hdunnil.
If you read the published reviews, such as those at at Macworld, especially this recent review, you'll see some good comparative specs. In the Photoshop tests, the 2GHz MacBooks were close to the MacBook Pro. Whether the difference in performance there is worth the extra cost, only you can decide for yourself. If you spend a great deal of time in Photoshop or similarly graphics-intensive apps, over time it may be worthwhile buying a MacBook Pro instead: time is money.
Where the MacBook's graphics really falls short is in graphics-intensive games. This is because it employs an integrated graphics chipset vs. a separate graphics card.
As to running Leopard, I'd say its a safe bet it will: while no one knows — the Leopard details won't be out until its released in Spring 2007 — Apple has only obsoleted some very old Macs with new releases of Mac OS X. As the MacBook is part of the current product line, I'd say you're safe there.
The benefits of a faster graphics card are faster graphics performance. Likewise, the more VRAM (video RAM) you have on the graphics card, the better. If you spend most of your time in graphics-intensive apps, then you would generally want a faster graphics card, but there are tradeoffs in price vs. performance and these are often personal decisions, e.g. what one's budget allows.
You may want to post your question to the MacBook Dicussion, asking for feedback from other Web designers using MacBooks.
    Good luck!
