Firefox 4 bookmark menu messes my windows 7 taskbar

is there anything i can do so this wont happen again?
http://oi56.tinypic.com/oksy6d.jpg

I'm having this issue with the Windows 7 Basic Theme.
A workaround that works for me is to disable hardware acceleration in FF4.0.
I'm using the latest ati drivers 11.4 on a Radeon HD 5850 1GB.
I tried to disable all firefox extensions but nothing. I'm using FF4 default theme.
UPDATE:
Please, if you have this issue, can you help me to report your experience in this specific bug thread?

Thank you.

When I sign out of FF and want to go back in, I have to go through Task Mgr each time by deleting FF and then signing back in. • With Firefox 35.0 maximized, my windows taskbar does not appear when I move the curser ot the bottom of the screen

With all other applications running maximized (full screen) the Windows taskbar pops up from the bottom when the cursor is moved to the bottom of the screen, but now with Firefox. Why not, and how do I fix this?

Are you in fullscreen or maximized for Firefox?
There is an entry that show toolbars when in fullscreen you can check if its on in the about:config page, but if you have never been there before do not worry about this troubleshooting step. (I do not know if you have or not :-))
With those hypothesis it is possible to see if this happens in Safe Mode if you have any add ons or extensions that may affect this feature: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]

  • Import saved bookmarks from C Drive into Firefox bookmark menu

I want to import saved bookmarks from a thumb drive into the Firefox bookmark menu

  • In Firefox Bookmarks Menu, no "ORGANIZE BOOKMARKS" populates

    Greetings all,
On my Macbook, I have Firefox and all of my bookmarks are contained within. I am attempting to export my bookmarks from Firefox, and then import them into my Safari browser. I have read just about every Firefox tutorial, and am still hitting a dead end. If I follow the Firefox tutorial, I am led to believe that clicking within the Firefox bar at the top of my computer, on "Bookmarks" (which is just to the right of "History"), I will see a drop down menu, and then I will be able to scroll down to "Organize Bookmarks" When I click on "Bookmarks", indeed there is a drop down menu....but unlike the tutorial, where you can plainly see "Organize Bookmarks", this does not appear for me. I am so stumped, and so frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you all, so much
    Jeff

Wow, you did good! Thank you for the heads up. I was able to import my bookmarks into Safari within a minute. I'm pretty thrilled, but I have one final hurdle. Don't know if there is a fix or not. On Firefox, I had "Yahoo" as my home page, whenever Firefox would open...I was also able to have all of my bookmarks appear on the left side, within my Yahoo homepage, whenever I would open the Firefox browser. To do that, within Firefox, I simply went up to Bookmarks, and clicked where it said "show in sidebar". I can't seem to do this in Safari. I'm pleased that I now can visit my bookmarks when in Safari, but it would sure be great to have them immediately at the ready when opening Safari.
    Thanks again for helping out,
    Jeff

  • Update deletes pinned bookmarks in Windows taskbar

I have an URL pinned to the Windows taskbar by calling the Firefox.EXE with a command line parameter. I also have Firefox itself pinned to the Windows taskbar.
Every time there is a Firefox update the pinned URL gets lost, i.e. the icon in the task bar is removed. Since this does not happen with other applications pinned in the same way when they get updated, it looks like this is a Firefox and not a Windows issue.
Does anybody know a work around? Maybe there is a way to remove the write permission to this pinned item. (Unfortunately I don't know how Windows stores them.)
And does anybody know how to report this as a bug to Firefox development? The support site only led me here.
    BR, Wolfgang

  • After upgrading to Firefox 4 in my Windows XP desktop, how do I restore to Organize Bookmarks... selection, which is no longer visible in the Bookmarks menu or in any other menu?

Typo; should be "how do I restore the Organize Bookmarks... selection". This selection also does not exist when I manually change Firefox to show the new "Firefox" orange menu tab at the upper left corner of the Firefox window.

OK, that works. In addition, just before receiving your response, I discovered that History --> Show All History brings up the identical "Show All Bookmarks" Library popup that includes the export and import Bookmark options (which is what I was looking for all along).
If anyone from the Mozilla-Firefox organization reads this, please update Firefox Help concerning the Bookmark maintenance functions. Help still refers only to pre-Firefox 4 versions, and is no help here with respect to Firefox 4 (which is why I had to post my initial query).

  • On windows 7 pro, how do i add firefox bookmarks to the start menu?

On Windows 7 professional, how do I add firefox bookmarks to the start menu so I can access my bookmarks without opening firefox first?

Only Favorites can be displayed as a submenu of the Start Menu. You can convert your Firefox bookmarks to IE favorites as follows:
    # [[Exporting bookmarks to an HTML file|Export your bookmarks to an HTML file]].
    # [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Import-or-export-favorites-in-Internet-Explorer Import the bookmarks in Internet Explorer].
    # In Firefox, install [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/plainoldfavorites/ the PlainOldFavorites extension]. This will allow you to create and manage favorites from Firefox.
    # Alternatively, if you use both browsers, you can keep bookmarks and favorites synchronized with an extension like [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync/ Xmarks Sync].

  • How can I get my bookmarks to always display in a docked window like Firefox 3? Clicking through multiple windows to get to the Bookmarks Menu is stupid.

    Any ideas?

You can find a button that opens the bookmarks in the sidebar in the toolbar palette and drag it on a toolbar. In Firefox that can be the Tab bar as well. There is also a Bookmarks Menu button (with a drop marker) that can be used to access the bookmarks if the Menu bar is hidden and the orange Firefox button is displayed.
Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"

  • I updated to firefox 18.0 and suddenly all of my bookmarks and explorer bar windows are messed up. how do i fix this?

basically any time I open up one of the windows at the top of my firefox, such as "bookmarks", the real firefox window where my browsing is is duplicated into my bookmarks menu. This only started happening immediately after installing version 18.0. I tried updating my graphics plug-ins, as well as un-installing all previous firefox versions, including the current one, and re-istalled. None f this fixed the problem. I've included an image of this happening on my browser

  • I turned the Bookmarks Toolbar (BT) back on per posted instructions (Relax...!) and no BT appeared. I've also lost the Organize Bookmarks option in the Bookmarks menu. I'm using a Mac 10.5.8. Restoring back to Firefox 3.6.whatever didn't help.

Upgraded to Firefox 4.0 earlier this week (4/11/11). Have been using and recommending Firefox for years (in spite of the websites that don't work well on it) but liked very little of the new 4.0 look (flat, colorless, buttons not very visible against theme graphics...) Do like the new Zoom buttons (thank you for that!), but re-arranged all buttons immediately. Don't like Tabs on Top - changed that - and turned the Bookmarks Toolbar (BT) on as well. Tabs shifted correctly, but no BT appeared... The Bookmarks sidebar works fine, but I no longer have Organize Bookmarks in the Bookmarks menu.
Today (4/16/11), after trying to revive the BT several times, researching problem in support, trying out the App Tab (OK, but not a substitute for BT), I restored to previous version of Firefox. The window looked like what I remembered, except the BT was gone. Aaarrgh! I've done nothing else to Firefox or my Mac recently.

  • I have pinned Firefox 5.0 to my Windows 7 taskbar. Why can I not open Firefox from a "pinned" link?

I have Firefox 5.0 installed on Windows 7 Ultimate, and the Firefox 5.o icon pinned to the taskbar. With IE9, I can right click the icon, and any site that is in my "pinned" menu can open the browser. This doesn't work with Firefox 5.0. Why?

I would suggest using the Quick Launch instead with Firefox being one of the first so it shows on the task bar. No preloaded or anything just ready to use.

I think IE is a browser interface to Windows, Firefox is self-contained and runs on any system.

  • I'm running the same version of Firefox on one computer in Windows 7 and on another computer in Windows XP. How can I make them look the same? Bookmarks is a button on the right in W7 and a tab at the top left in XP.

I am already running Sync for bookmarks, but I don't understand how to make Firefox have the same format at the top of the screen. I don't want to Sync tabs, so I haven't tried that option.

There is no bookmarks tab, expect you are referring to the bookmarks menu on the menu bar ("File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help") on your XP system.
Once your restore your menus on you Window 7 system, you can get rid of the bookmarks button. After going through the 10 steps below your toolbars on your Windows 7 system will be more usable again and like your XP system, none of which has anything to do with Sync.
You can make '''Firefox 6.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. the first 9 steps above are basic toolbar customization the following link is in step #1 above. (See before/after picture (.png) in the footnote)

There is a lot more beyond those first 10 steps listed, if you want to make Firefox more functional.
Before and after customizations, the following also includes [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4styles styling changes] besides rearranging toolbars and toolbar items.

  • Upgrading from FF 15.1 to Firefox 16, the Bookmark menu is very laggy. Moving the mouse is slow in menu.

I have been using FF 4ever.
After the update to firefox 16, when I drop the bookmark menu down, scrolling thru the menu, the movement is laggy, like stuttering.
If I leave the menu down on the screen and move the cursor across the menu, the mouse pauses and jumps like 3" on the screen. like it hits a border and sticks then jumps across. But then I test and move the mouse across all menus and its laggy. but once I surf or click on a link, its fine. I disabled hardware Accel. to test, no help. I did a clean install of FF by cleaning and deleting all mozilla and firefox folders. no help. So I downgraded to 15.0.1 and all is well. I tested 15 and 16 both with importing the bookmarks and only FF16 is having this issue.
System is Windows XP, SP3 Pentium 4 3.06HT
    2GB Ram
    ATI Radeon3850 HD AGP card

Weird thing is that if I revert back to FF15, everything works with HA enabled and full bookmark menu.
but its a no go with FF16

  • In firefox 14 on Linux, how do I restore normal bookmark menu functions?

I'd like to '''restore the normal function''' of the Firefox menus, to the default behavior for a Windows/Mac/Linux Application - where clicking on the menu reveals all of the valid commands as lines of text, with unavailable commands greyed out.
The "Bookmarks" menu seems to have been most affected by changes since 3.6 that were rolled out in release 4 or release 5. Sometimes, depending on the command you want, you have to trigger the bookmark menu dropping down with a keyboard command, and not the normal mouse movement.
I see tantalizing bits at https://wiki.mozilla.org/FX2_Visual_Update/User_Interface_Design, but I'm really looking for the '''User Interface design document that Mozilla developers follow''', while the web page shows something more like the output of a design session.

Some menu entries in the main menu bar are hidden if you use the mouse and only appear if you use the keyboard to open the menu (Bug 626825).<br />
You can see the difference if you use Alt+F to open the File menu or other menus like the Edit menu (Alt+E) and Bookmarks menu (Alt+B) and compare that to what you see if you use the mouse to open the menu after you have made the menu bar visible by tapping Alt or by pressing F10.
    * "Bookmark All Tabs" (Shift+Ctrl+D) no longer shows in the Bookmarks menu unless you open the Bookmarks menu via the keyboard (Alt + B).
    * "Bookmark All Tabs" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of a tab on the tab bar.
    * "Bookmark This Page" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of that browser page.
