Firefox 4 cannot "Sort by name" on Bookmarks on the fly but I have to open "Show all Bookmarks" to do so.

I used to be able to "Sort by name" bookmarks on the fly without having to open "Show all bookmarks" pane.

Firefox now always stores the old session which you can access by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session". There is also an option to restore the previous session on the default about:home home page.
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
# Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
# Go to the General panel
# Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • I cannot open "Show All Bookmarks"

I can import and export html bookmarks, but I when I use the drop down menu Bookmarks, and see Show All Bookmarks, the command does not execute. I cannot Show All Bookmarks. I deleted Mozilla, and Firefox, then used Safari to download a new Firefox 24.0. I restarted by MacBook Pro, but STILL- I cannot Show All Bookmarks. THEREFORE- I cannot delete or edit my bookmarks. ???

Nope- looked again in the library- NO plist files for Firefox. They do not get re-created at Firefox startup. Same w/ profile. No go.

  • I have no 'imports and exports' option after opening 'show all bookmarks'. How do I import from a backup file?

    I am running Firefox 6 under Ubuntu 11.04 .

Ubuntu 11.04 displays window menus in the control bar at the top of the screen with the switch to the Unity window manager
    *http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Unity
Click on Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks then move your mouse to the left upper corner toward Firefox Web Browser.
You'll get pop up menu (Organize, Views and Import and Backup).

  • HELP! Lost ALL my bookmarks & Bookmark Toolbar is empty. Attempts to restore from the backup files yields an error message that says, "Unable to process the backup file." Have tried opening nearly all 10 existing backups w/same result.

I was in the midst of a Firefox session w/two windows open. Nothing special about the sites. No fancy javascripts or anything. When I closed the second window and opened the "History, Show all History" pull-down, the Library screen had no data in it.
I looked for the Bookmarks.html file in my profile and it is missing. I tried renaming an old .bak file from a couple years ago and I can open it as a file and see the text of it displayed but Firefox will not recognize it as and open it as the Backups file.
Following the directions already posted - using "History, Show all History" then the "Import and Backup, Restore" process - allows Firefox to see all the backups, but trying to restore from any of them yields the "Unable to process the backup file" error message.
I have re-started my machine from a cold start - twice now.

The file that stores bookmarks is probably damaged, for details on how to fix that see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_process_the_backup_file_-_Firefox

  • "Show All Bookmarks" is not showing all bookmarks

upgraded to FF 4. When clicked, Bookmarks Toolbar button shows various bookmark folders with all of my bookmarks. It also shows the "Show All Bookmarks" option. When that is clicked the "All Bookmarks" folder is empty and I cannot organize any of the bookmarks which are in the main menu.
Also, the other Bookmarks button which used to show all my bookmarks is now empty - it just shows "search".
    Deleted localstore.rdf and no change.

After numerous reinstalls failed to solve this problem, I discovered that on my system, it has to do with using an external monitor (via DVI port). When I drag the Firefox window from my laptop screen to an external monitor, "Show All Bookmarks" is suddenly empty. Dragging the browser window back to the original display (laptop) does NOT fix it. Firefox must be RESTARTED on the original display. When Firefox re-opens, "Show All Bookmarks" functions normally again.
WORK AROUND: the only way I can view "Show All Bookmarks" on my external monitor is to first open both the browser and "Show All Bookmarks" windows on the original display, drag BOTH windows to the other monitor and be sure to leave the "Show All Bookmarks" library window open in the background. If I forget and close it by accident, the problem happens all over again.

  • I can't get Sort By Name to work on the Bookmarks Menu. How do you sort your folders alphabetically?

I have my bookmarks sorted in folders. When I create a new folder it goes to the end of the list. I have tried going into Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks, right click on Bookmarks Menu and Sort By Name but nothing happens. I have to manually move the newly created folder.

Open the Bookmarks Manager. Open the folder branch tree. On this tree,
select the folder you want with a right click.
    </blockquote>
I have no problem sorting an individual folder by name, I can't get the list of folders to sort. As you can see by the attached images, several folders I've added are at the bottom of the folder list and even after I right click on Bookmark Menu/Sort By Name, they don't alphabetize.

  • I upgraded to Firefox 7 and lost all my Bookmarks and the Toolbar which I use every day for all the important things I do on my Mac.. PLEASE HELP ME... Is there some way to restore my previous settings, go back to the older version or something?

PLEASE HELP!... I am seriously freaking out... I use my Toolbar all the time!... and ALL OF MY BOOKMARKS ARE GONE ALSO!

I am not an expert or even close, and I offer this only because this is how I figured out how to do it. I used a similar approach to importing all email accounts, email content and the address book into a new version of Thunder bird, but I assume this is common knowledge.
    My system:
Windows 7 64 bit, recently upgraded from XP64. Installed Mozilla Aurora but seems the same as recent Firefox versions with respect to these features.
    Limitation:
This solution depends on whether or not automatic backups were done of the bookmarks when you used your old installation. They were on my system and I don't remember doing it, but maybe I did. Others might know if this is periodically done by default. Assuming you have some backup (*.json) files,
Locate your the bookmark backup files from the old version of your browser. On XP it was located in
    E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.<your computer name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bookmarkbackups
Each of the bookmark backup files look like this example:
    bookmarks-1010-09-22.json
They might also be located one folder deeper, in my case:
    E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.<your computer name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\x72qybcl.default\bookmarkbackups
Again, they will look like this:
    bookmarks-1010-09-22.json
Copy all of these .json files to the backup folder on your new installation. On my new Windows 7 file system system I found their new home at:
    C:\Users\Art\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\0ptl24i3.default\bookmarkbackups
On an XP system I'm sure they would be found along a path, possibly on a differed drive, similar to where your got them from as above.
I fired up Aurora. Drop down "Bookmarks" tab, Select "Show All Bookmarks" (found near the bottom). This brings up the "Library" window. At the top of the window is a tab "Import and Backup". Click this and select "Restore". All of the prior backup files will be available indexed by the date of backup. Select one and all of your prior bookmarks will be repopulated, including the bookmarks Toolbar.
    Hope this helps.

  • I want to name individual photos in the album but I am unable to select view sort in the drop down menu How can I overcome this?

I want to name individual photos in the album but I am unable to select view>sort in the drop down menu How can I overcome this?

Great to hear, but what was the solution?

  • When NOT using icons on the toolbar, side-bar drop-down for additional toolbar items has disappeared with Firefox 4 and accessing these items requires clicking 'Bookmarks', then 'Show all bookmarks' then 'Toolbar'--ugh, what a pain.

On older versions of Firefox, Toolbar links ran across the top of my screen, with a drop-down to the far right which would show additional Toolbar items for which there was not room on the screen.
With Firefox 4, if I'm not using icons (text only), the dedicated Toolbar drop-down is gone and I have to first click 'Bookmarks' to the right of the Toolbar ribbon, then 'Show All Bookmarks', then 'Toolbar' in order to access my additional Toolbar links. Could anyone have made it any harder?
Why doesn't someone just restore the drop-down at the far right of the Toolbar so that all of my Toolbar items (which I prefer to keep separately from the regular Bookmark items, else I would have just plain bookmarked those items in the first place) are readily accessible?

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).<br />
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />
You only see the Bookmarks menu button if the Menu bar is hidden.

  • Why is there no "Show All Bookmarks" in my Bookmarks menu in Firefox 3.6.28--AS YOU SAID in how to export to Bookmarks.html??

I followed instructions on how to export my Firefox bookmarks to a Bookmarks.html,
BUT there is no Show All Bookmarks in my Bookmarks menu. I don't get it. I have Firefox 3.6.28,
which is the latest I can install on my PowerPC OS 10.4.11 Mac. Thank you.
I'm stuck without my Firefox bookmarks on my new iMac OS 10.8.

In Firefox 3.6.x it is named "Organize Bookmarks"

  • Firefox crashes when I "show all bookmarks"

When I click "show all bookmarks" and then select uncategorized bookmarks, firefox locks up and eventually crashes with the Library window open.
This seems to happen every time. I'm using Firefox 5.0. I also tried in safe mode and the same result.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Can't find "Show All Bookmarks" button on Firefox 29

I can no longer locate the "Show All Bookmarks" button from the Bookmarks menu on Firefox 29. I tried looking for it in the Bookmarks Sidebar, but it's not there either. I would like to manually backup my bookmarks from time to time - is there another way to do this on Firefox 29?

  • Firefox 24: "Show all Bookmarks" hangs in clean, fresh install on Windows XP

Firefox 24. A _clean install_ (during the previous remove I specified 'delete my profile') with no added addons or plugins and no imported bookmarks or bookmarks added by the user hangs when I select "Show all Bookmarks" from the Bookmarks menu. The Library window opens, but when you click once on any item at All Bookmarks or below on the left panel, or any of the items in the right panel, the Library window is hung, and must be killed with Task Manager.
This problem also happens if you have lots of bookmarks, a slightly above average number of plugins and addons, and lots of history.
I will not automatically add troubleshooting information because I have dropped back to Firefox 23 (which does not have this problem) in order to submit this trouble report.
Windows XP Pro, SP3, up-to-date with Windows Update.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is hanging.

  • I updated to the new firefox. but now the show all bookmarks option is gone.. how do i get it back?

how do i get the show all bookmarks option back?

For me, the option to show all bookmarks now appears at the bottom of the bookmarks listed after I click on the bookmarks icon.

  • How do I replace bookmark bar that was lost when a new Mozilla Fox Start page suddenly appeared with a Zone Alarm Community Toolbar, and nothing I have so far tried, working with "Show all Bookmarks", works ("Unable to process the backup file).

My current version is 6.0.2. A box appeared a few days ago informing me of an update to 7 (x?). I declined for the time being.
Then a Start Page just showed up missing the bookmark tool bar. I tried to import a bar from another browser. Nothing showed up. Then, I went to "Help". First, I clicked on "About Firefox" where I was informed of an update. This time, I tried it. When I clicked on "Apply Update", I received a message; 'Update could not be installed" despite there being no other Firefox browsers running.
I went back to "Help" and clicked on "Firefox Help". A page came up with the URL in place, but the page would not load ("Cannot find server at support.mozilla.com"). After several clicks on "Try Again" with the same result, I copied the URL and pasted it into a different browser, from which I am now working.
Before sending this question, I tried the two procedures ("Manual Backup" and "Restoring From Backup") found on Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks/Import And Backup/Restore, using both "stored backups" from Mozilla's Profile folder and "Choose a file", as well as Bookmarks/Show ... /Backup. In each case, the response was, "Unable to process the backup file".
I had previously tried another method I found on Google which involved copying and saving a Mozilla backup file (this is the file I used in the procedure above - "Choose a File") found in the C:/Documents And Settings/.../Profile Folder, then renaming the original file "backup.HTML" and saving it in a folder one level up from its original location. The Bookmark bar was to show up after shutting down and reopening Mozilla - it never happened. I replaced the original backup file.
It occurred to me to locate the Bookmark File for this browser (Chrome) and using it in the "Choose a File" method, referred to above. But there is no extension included in the file name, and I was afraid to try it.
I'm out of ideas. Is there something else to try?

Check that the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible and that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
    * Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button
