Firefox 4 displays "Could not launch Acrobat" error when exiting

Firefox 4
Adobe Reader X installed
OS: Win7 Pro
Every time I exit Firefox, whether I view a PDF file or not, I get an error message, saying "Could not launch Acrobat."
I've manually gone Options, Applications and changed them to use Acrobat Reader, but the problem persists.
The only way I've solved the problem is to reinstall Firefox 3.6.16.
Any suggestions? I'd like to use Firefox 4, but won't until this issue is resolved.

Have no solutions to this problem been found? It seems many people have it. I get the error on start up and when shutting down Firefox.

  • Launching PDF in Firefox yeilds "Could not launch Acrobat.".

I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.6 with Acrobat Reader 8.1.1. When I click on a PDF on a web page I get the error "Could not launch Acrobat.".
The file "nppdf32.dll" is in the Firefox plugins folder.
If I double-click a PDF file on my hard drive, Acrobat launches fine.
    Can anyone help?

    >>Under Tools->Options->Applications, I have nothing for "Adobe" in my content Type. Any ideas how to get it to populate in there?
Assuming you have acrobat installed, this worked for me:
    1. start acrobat (for me this was Acrobat Reader 8 )
    2. help -> repair acrobat reader installation
    3. stop and restart firefox
now I have entries for pdf and everything works again
[for me, this problem was apparently caused by installing a program that *took the liberty* of installing an ancient version of Acrobat even though I already had 8 installed. After that happened, Firefox refused to open pdf files. I uninstalled the ancient version of acrobat, rebooted etc. etc. to no avail, then found this thread, and looked in Tools->Options->Applications to find nothing for "Adobe"]

  • "The attempted operation failed. An object could not be found" error when double clicking on an ics file

    Operation System: Windows 8 Pro
    System Type: 64-bit Operating System
Office: MS Office Professional Plus 2013
I am getting "The attempted operation failed. An object could not be found" error when I double click on an .ics file to an appointment to my calender. My outlook.com account's data file is set as default and this error only occurs if
that is the default data file. I thought that maybe my profile is corrupted. So, I opened up a new profile with the below steps and only add my outlook.com account there:
1-) Open up the Control Panel and go to Mail section
    2-) Click "Show Profiles"
3-) Click "Add" and give a name to your profile.
4-) Configure your outlook.com account (with Auto Account setup, not manual steps)
5-) Finally, set that profile to be used always.
Then, I opened up the Outlook 2013 and clicked on the .ics file to add that appointment but got the same error.
Is this a known issue or specific to me?
    Thanks!

yes, I have the same problem.
The workaround of saving the ICS file and then importing it into the current calendar
    works,
    but the ICS calendar
displays in other section, NOT in the section of my old events.
    why  ??

  • Could Not Launch Acrobat

im on a vista trying to download a pdf but the site gives me an error that says that it 'could not launch acrobat', then after i click the 'OK' button, the middle of the window says 'missing plug-in' so im confused as to what to do can someone help me?

Are you asking about Acrobat or Reader? Are you saying that since you installed Reader, Acrobat will not open? If this is the case, then you are running into the issue of why Adobe recommends against running both Acrobat and Reader. It can be done with care, but often causes problems and becomes a major problem for uninformed users.
For Reader questions, you should go to the Reader forum. There has not been an Acrobat Reader product since AA5, and even then it was not Acrobat.

  • "Could not complete scan" error when using Windows Fax and Scan

"Could not complete scan" error when using Windows Fax and Scan with a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus All-In-One network printer.
    Printing is fine.
When using the HP Scan application, get the error "Scanner communication cannot be established".
When scanning from the printer itself it fails with the same message. In addition the printer panel displays the error:
"The scan could not be completed due to one or more of the following issues:
Connection to the computer is lost
    The scanner is in use
    OCR application is not installed"
My PC is a HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF 64bit, with ethernet cable to the router and ethernet cable to the printer
Originally ran Windows 8.0; recently upgraded to Windows 8.1.
Older separate Netgear router and modem was replaced with a newer Netgear Router/Modem, but both experienced the same problem.
There was no problem with the original Windows 8.0 configuration and only after upgrading to 8.1 did the problem emerge.
On my home netowrk I have an HP ProBook 6550b running Windows 7 sp1 that uses wireless to get to the Router, and it has no problem with scanning.
I have followed the recommendations of a number of articles relating to this issue (including: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02915410&product=4323659#N94), but there has been no change in behaviour.
    The printer has a static IP address;
Power settings have been adjusted to Never for Turn off Hard Disk; Sleep and Hybrid Sleep.
Scanning has been tested with all firewalls and antivirus turned off and in Selective Startup.
The printer has been plugged directly into the power socket.
With all these settings the Windows 8.1 cannot scan while the Windows 7 laptop with wireless to the router has no problems.
Appreciate any insights into this problem.
I can only surmise that the problem is a compatibility problem between the 8600 Printer and Windows 8.1.
    Any ideas?
    regards,
    Motorbike

You can determine if there is compatiblity between the printer and PC by checking the Windows 8.1 hardware compatibility list. I have done that and it is shown to be fully compatible.  If the driver you installed before was only the basic driver,it would explain the lack of scan and copy functionality.
Download and install the Windows 8.1 full feature driver and software on the HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF 64bit PC .

  • Configuration could not be verified error when connect to Cox

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect to Cox but keep getting the "configuration could not be verified" error. I can access my Cox account through web mail and I've retyped and retried my email address and password enough times to be confident that it's correct. I've also verified my account settings (incoming/outgoing server and ports) with Cox support, and I've checked the my firewall and antivirus settings (norton 360). No luck with anything.
I'd really appreciate any thoughts anyone has!
    Thanks,
    David

I should have added that my Cox connection has been set up several years now with no problems but suddenly quit working. I checked everything I know to check, including firewall settings, and finally deleted email account and tried to set it up again. Still getting the same error.

  • "The file is damaged and could not be repaired" error when trying to open a PDF in Reader

A few of our employess (only 3 out of over 100 so far) have been getting the error, "The file is damaged and could not be repaired" when trying to open some PDFs. Other people are able to open the same PDF files with no error. It's happening on about 10% of the time. I've read a bunch of threads here with this isue and tried some suggested fixes and nothing has resolved the issue. Here is what I have found works and does not work and the info on their computers:
    Computers:
1 Dell Vostro desktop running WIndows 7
    1 Toshiba Satellite C55 runnign Windows 8
1 Samsung ATIV Book 4 running Windows 8
All using Adobe Reader XI but we did uninstall that version and tried previous versions and still got the error.
    Did Not Work:
As suggested by the company that we use online for claims adjustments where this error is occuring, we tried using a different PDF creator since the files were created using a free PDF creator by the employees. PDF995 and PDFcreator (pdfforge) did not resolve the issue. I then created the PDFs with my Adobe Acrobat, uploaded from my computer to the online program, and that did not resolve the issue.
Saving the file to hard drive and then opening in Adobe did not work.
Turning off Protected Mode and Enhanced Security did not work.
Compatibility View settings enabled in Internet Explorer 10 did not resolve the issue. The previously mentioned claims adjustment software company we use online was code for IE so is not fully compatible with other browsers.
That being said I did try to open the PDF files in Chrome and it also did not work. Same error message.
    Does work:
I download the file they cannot open onto my hard drive, open in Adobe Acrobat, Save as a pdf, then email it to them and they can open it via email attachment.
If they close the error and continue trying to open the file over and over sometimes it will eventually open.
Is there a setting in Windows that is preventing them from opening a small % of files some of the time? Thanks in advance for any help!
    James

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

  • "ABC could not be saved, because the source file could not be read" error when downloading

Almost every time I download a file, the download gets to the end and then I get this error "<filename> could not be saved, because the source file could not be read", and then the download fails.
I checked my addons and they are not the problem. This doesn't happen when I try another Firefox profile. I tried several solutions offered in "http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files" but they didn't help. It's not my antivirus.
I hate to start another profile because I have my current one just the way I like it.
    Please help!

You can check the file attributes of all the files in the Firefox Profile Folder to make sure that you have write permission.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

  • The document could not be saved error when Saving to a SharePoint Document Library

I am having an error when opening and commenting on Adobe PDF's that are stored in SharePoint 2010. When I attempt to save a PDF I have commented on I get the following error:
The Document could not be saved. The server said:
"The operation failed because an unexpected error occurred. (Result code: 0x80020005)"
This seems to happen in a Document Library that is based on a custom template with Managed Metadata columns, when we remove the columns it seems to work and when we create a library with a standard document library template and manually add the manage metadata columns it also works fine.
We would make this change to all document libraries where this issue occurs however this template is applied to 100's of libraries with thousands of documents stored in them. Is there anything we can look at to attempt to resolve this issue?
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. documents seem to work fine in these libraries.

    Hi quodd,,
We are sorry for the issue being faced by you. I need some information from you so that I take further steps:
    1. Which Adobe product are you using Acrobat or Adobe reader- what is the complete version?
    2. How are you opening and saving the PDF, the exact workflow?
Are you doing it from within Adobe Reader/Acrobat application or opening it from browser, doing changes and saving it using browser itself.
    3. Can you try to save a PDF to library with Custom template and managed metadata columns using browser directly.
    4. Please verify that columns name do not contain spaces or some other special characters.
Can you try to save PDF to library with Custom template and just a single managed metadata column  with a simple name
    Thanks,

  • Disk utility reports "Device could not be opened" - error when trying to format a new drive in a Mac Pro 1,1

    MacPro 1,1 Quadcore 3 GHz (2006 "Woodcrest")
    32 GB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 5770
    OS X 10.7.5 Lion
I have encountered the following behavior when trying to format a new drive with disk utility. This description has also been send via the Mac Pro feedback as a bug report to Apple.
On searching the web and forums with this particular error message and behaviour I could not find any usful results. So maybe the following description may be helpful for some users.
    Best regards.
    1. Drive Bay 1 contains the original 250 GB Startupdisk. It works without errors.
    2. Drive Bays 3 and 4 contain each a WD Caviar Black 2 TB SATA 3 HDD. They work without errors.
    3. I have purchased a third WD Caviar Black 2 TB HDD.
    4. In Drive Bay 2 there has been a Seagate 750 GB HDD, which worked in conjunction with all the other drives without error.
    5. I exchanged the Seagate HDD in Drive Bay 2 with the new WD Caviar Black 2 TB HDD.
    6. On starting the system, it will report to initialize the new drive.
    7. On trying to initialize the new drive with disk utility it reports the error [translated from German] "Erasing of the volume has failed. The device could not be opened."
    8. I thought that the drive is faulty. Thus I created an RMA-Case at WD. They exchanged the drive without problems.
    9. On getting the exchanged WD Caviar Black 2 TB drive I put it in Drive Bay 2 as before.
    10. On trying to erase and format the exchange drive I got the same error message "Drive could not be opened."
10.1 On selecting the physical drive in the devices list, disk utility reports all information in the bottom area of its window as usual, e. g. hard disk description, connection bus, type and place, capacity, write status, SMART-status, partition scheme.
10.1 On leaving that drive selected in the devices list and clicking the info-button, disk utility will also report additional information as usual, e. g. Name, Type, partition scheme, media-identification, media name, media type, device tree, … , number of relocated sectors, etc.. All this information appears to be valid, as can be compared to the other devices information inside the other Drive Bays. Also the disk numbering scheme appears to be standard - 4 HDDs give the numbering disk0, disk1, disk2, disk3.
10.2 From that information I conclude that the SATA-bus and connectors electrically work properly, the drive has spun up and can be accessed by the system normally.
    11. I powered down the computer, took out the HDDs from Drive Bays 3 and 4 and put the caddy with the new exchange drive in Drive Bay 4 [Maybe, I could have also just left it alone in Drive Bay 2, or 3].
    12. After powering on the system, disk utility will quick format the exchange drive without any error message. Also, when erasing again by selecting the option to write zeros to the drive, disk utility will finish without error.
    13. After disk utility finished formatting, I put back the original drives into Drive Bay 3 and 4 and put the now newly formatted drive back into Drive Bay 2.
    14. After switching on the computer the system start and login proceeds without any error message. All drives appear as expected on the desktop.

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.

  • "Could not create ac3" error when burning Blu-ray

I've spent the last week designing a Blu-ray in Encore CS5.  Upon burning, I was given the error message "Cannot create '_sessionfiles_Dsf_session_1_audio.ac3", and the burn failed (after going for seven hours).  I really don't even know where to begin with this.  The Blu-ray is about 80% full (20 GB) and includes multiple timelines and several menus (one of which has audio).  No pop-ups.  It should be a fairly straightforward project.  However, it's given me problem after problem and has taken way too much time.  Can anyone offer insight before I spend another week tracking down the problem?  Thanks.

In the last few days, things have gone from bad to great and back to bad, and it's been non-stop work.  I freed up a ton of space on the computer and backed it up.  Then the computer gave me a kernel panic, which happened so often that I had to restore the whole computer.  I don't know if that's related to the Encore issue.  Then I tried to burn again, and it seemed to be working until it gave me an error message that said "Blu-ray Error: 'device error', code '3', Note: ".  So I looked around online and decided to export as an ISO disc image file.  That worked fine.  Then I tried burning a Blu-ray using third-party software, which failed halfway through.  Next I tried burning using Disc Utility.  It got all the way to the end and said "Could not verify" and failed.  I tried playing it in my Blu-ray player anyway.  For the first time, it actually worked.  The movie and the Scene Selection menu work fine.  But when I try to go to Special Features, nothing happens.  The Blu-ray is supposed to go to the Special Features menu at the end of the main movie, but it just goes to a black screen after that and locks up.  Now I'm really lost.  Any more suggestions?  Thanks.

  • Alias could not be found error when networking with PC

I am trying to connect to the PC's at work via the ONLY Mac on the network. When I go to the Network home in the Finder, I can see all of the PC's on the system, but everytime I try to connect to them with the correct username and password, I get this error:
The alias "Development9" could not be opened because the original item cannot be found.
Has anyone seen this error? What could be the problem?

    Hi Al-
    1) Is your mac configured in the same "workgroup" as the PC's? (Look in Utilities>DirectoryAccess>SMB/CIFS>Configure). Workgroup must match, and try putting name using ALL CAPS.
    2) Instead of using this alias, have you tried Using Finder "Go" Menu?
    Go>Connect To Server> SMB://[PCname]/[Foldername]
There are some security settings which may need changed, over on the PC's. Search this group for 'digital signing'.

  • Firefox 5 will not launch. Error message "Another instance of Firefox is running" is generated every time

After updating to Firefox 5, on Windows XP machine, Firefox will not launch at all. No matter what I try, I just get the same error message, than Firefox is already running. *This disc could not be verified and might be unreliable. Try again using a new, blank disc. (Error code 0x80020063).*
I have tried with many blank disks and different data (text files, music files, etc). The CDs I am using are blank Memorex CD-RWs.
This machine is using a Matshita DVD-R UJ-845, here's the rest of the info from the System Profiler if it helps:

What can I do to get my CD burner working?

All good suggestions...thanks to all of you weighing in. I have had no issues buring DVDs or CDs (7 months) until this week and am a bit puzzled. Since this verify issue popped up, I've tried buring data from various sources and had some success. As such, I suspect it's not a hardware problem.
I was able to review 1500 JPEGS burned to 1 DVD one-by-one until I found the single file that was an issue. I did this on an XP machine and got a 'cyclic redundancy' error which leads me to believe that I've got a software problem tied to a recent update.
That file is not corrupted at the source and can be copied individually without issue. I've varied burn speeds, media types, file types and data sources and have not been able to identify why 3 of 11 have worked.
The first DVD I burned using dic utility at 4x worked. I felt good that I had a workaround to burning via finder but 3 subsequent attempts with disc utility have failed, too.
