Firefox 4 freezes within seconds of starting. I had to uninstal it and instal an older version. Help?

''locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/808469''
I installed Firefox 4 and it behaved exactly as the Minefield beta did. It looked almost identical and froze within seconds. It flat out does not function. Is there a way to make it function or is this just a massive bug that will be fixed at some point?
I run Windows XP

Create a new profile exclusively for 4.0 and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile.

    I have unchecked hardware acceleration.
I have uninstalled, removed all data files, deleted all profiles and reinstalled Firefox.
    Internet Explorer works fine.

I recently began to experience this same problem. There are many, many reports of this same trouble all over the web. Why is it that when so many people report having the same problem tech support asks each user to perform trouble shooting. The firefox team should instead look for the fault within the firefox program.

  • I've lost the use of Appleworks in 10.9.2. Is it possible to partition the internal hard drive of my MacBook Pro and install an older Mac OS (10.6.8) on the second partition with OS 10.9.2 on the other?

I've lost the use of Appleworks by upgrading to 10.9.2.
Is it possible to partition the internal hard drive of my MacBook Pro and install an older Mac OS (10.6.8) on the second partition with OS 10.9.2 on the other? I'd like to be able to boot to the older OS when I need Appleworks and  few other applications that aren't available on OS 10.9.2.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello again, WZZZ,
Here's an update. I was successful in creating two partitions on my internal drive, and in installing OS 10.6.6 on the second partition, as per your guidence. I now have it up to 10.6.8 with all the security updates and AppleWorks. A great thing.
    Some thoughts:
    • The partitioning had one hitch; it failed at first. But once I "repaired" the disc with Disc Utility the partitioning went thru.
    • The partitioning took a long time in 'resizing the partition.' A few hours I think it was. Lots of progress bar watching.
    • If I had it to do again, I'd size the two partitions differently. My original data was occupying about 230 Gb of the 320 Gb disc. I made the new partitions share the space, about 230 and 75Gb. That left very little available space for the main disc. I ought to have put some breathing room in there. As it is, it's an incentive to clean up all those files, especially all those iTunes files. I now have about 10% of available space there and mean to continue deleting.
So, all in all a good project that got me where I wanted to go. Thank you for your help.
    Appreciatively,
    wallah

Current Firefox versions require a Mac with an Intel processor and OS X 10.6.
Firefox 16 is the last version that runs on Intel Mac OS X 10.5.
You would have to update to OS X 10.6 to be able to use current Firefox releases.

  • Firefox won't respond at all. I have completely removed the program and down-loaded and installed the latest version. Still no response.

Firefox suddenly quit responding one day last week. After re-installing the program (which didn't work) I went to the website and downloaded and installed the latest version. Program does not open (respond) at all. This is on Desktop with XP. Firefox works fine on my laptop which has Windows 7. I am now using Chrome as my browser on the desktop. No problems. I am at a loss as to what happened.

But I can't... find... it... It's not there.
Unless you're talking about the entire Mozilla Firefox folder (which isn't what the thing you copied says,) there is no installation folder.

  • Thunderbird crashes within seconds after starting, even when I completely reinstall it. Caused by Facebook Photo Uploader" (fbplugin)

The basics: Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite, 10 GB RAM. Thunderbird version 31.3.0 (though the same thing happens when I try earlier and later versions).
Symptom: Thunderbird crashes within a few seconds of starting it up. I have enough time click on a menu or two, perhaps glance at a message, then it crashes.
    Attempted solutions:
    - Starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode.
    - Starting the Mac in Safe Mode.
    - Deleting ~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.thunderbird.plist and ~/Library/Preferences/Thunderbird, deleting the Thunderbird application, emptying the trash, and reinstalling Thunderbird from mozilla.org.
    - Using Yosemite Cache Cleaner to scan the hard drive for viruses, and to deep-clean all System and User caches.
    - Booting from the Recovery partition, repairing disk permission, and repairing the filesystem.
The only time Thunderbird has semi-stable is just after I've deleted all preferences, started it up, and I do the initial set-up for my e-mail account. Everything appears normal, and my list of IMAP folders appears. But shortly after that Thunderbird crashes again, and keeps crashing at every subsequent restart.
This is a problem that developed last Wednesday, Dec 24; prior to that the program ran just fine. No other program on my computer at work is showing these symptoms. Thunderbird works on my Macintosh at home (same software versions) and on my Linux computer at work.
I'm at a loss of what to try next. Any ideas?

Or you can try Earlybird from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/channel/ which should have the patch from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1086977

  • Mac Pro Freezes within seconds

I have a Mac Pro and last week I occasionally occurred problems with the spinning beachball/pinwheel (2-3 times a day for about 45 seconds on each spell) This morning I opened the machine and the problem was obviously worse, locking up for minutes at a time (instead of seconds) and then often as every 10 minutes. As the morning went on it the spells got longer and more frequent. Till finally by early afternoon the machine pinwheels within seconds after restart, and refuses to snap out of it.
My main goal right now is to save my info, but it only gives me seconds after boot up to recover my info and I have several GBs of info to extract.
    I've tried:
    Disk Utility (CD)
    Reset PRAM
    Safe Boot &
    Archive & Intall
I would like to do a erase and install, but I'm unable to buy enough time to save my info to another HD.
    Thank you for any assistance!

The worst idea is to continue to use or reinstall the OS.
One reason I always recommend Mac Pro owners to setup a small emergency boot drive with Disk Warrior, and a couple of clones of your system.
Disk Warrior has Preview mode that mounts the partition as Before and After images to allow you to recover files and see what you can copy or will look like.
I would start by building a new system - new drive and clean install and keep that (image it) for maintenance only, and clone it to 3rd drive which will become the new system boot drive.
And yes Disk Warrior will do a better job than Apple First Aid even today. And can help. You may have any number of issues with files, directory, your home folder (Application Support / SyncServices is one).
Then with a clean system see what is anything is the cause. It may be a faulty cable or external device that doesn't play nice.
TechTool Pro 5.07 is handy too for scanning and looking at files; at disk media. you want to rule out a bad sector that needs to be deactivated and mapped out.
And you may want to pull the hard drive and put it in an external FW case while you build a new foundation to work from and become the new system. Easier to turn it on after startup, stay out of the way, and repair the directory.
Data Recsue 3 is another utiility worth looking at if you have to recover files.

  • When I click on link in a website firefox randomly decide to reload the page after it has already loaded it once. It's really irritating. I tried uninstalling firefox and installing the latest version but it still does it. HELP!!!!

After I updated to 3.6.8 I started noticing on a game I play at UniversalCriminal.com that randomly when I click on a link, firefox will load the appropriate page and as soon as it finishes loading that page it will refresh or reload the same page. It doesn't happen on any particular link it just happens randomly, and not all the time but most of the time. I tried reverting back to an earlier version of firefox but it still happened. I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled the latest version but it still happens. It doesn't do it with IE or Chrome or Opera. What gives? Any ideas anyone?
