  • Everytime I use the firefox browser it will freeze up when refreshing a page or changing to another page saying program not responding. This is getting really annoying, is there anyway to fix this problem?

Everytime I check my email and switch websites the program will become unresponsive and freeze, then it will say "Not Responding". After waiting a while it will work again but with it freezing up for every time a page changes or refreshes it's a waste of time for me to use this browser.

  • Firefox hangs when I use it. error message says 'not responding' tired of this. it happens more and more. Do I have to stop using firefox

When I start FF it application hangs (freezes) some times over a minute. Message say FF is not responding. . Have had my PC checked, it is clean, cleared the cache and performed everything else I can think of. When I click to change pages, it does the same thing.

Does everything else on your computer work as expected, is it only firefox that you have a problem with ?
If so Try Firefox in [[safe mode]]
    # do not make changes in the first options window, just click on continue.
    # use only the default theme
    # if you still have problems, then whilst still in safe mode, disable your plugins
    * see [[troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
Try firefox on a file on the local computer, eg save a web page and open it on your harddrive with firefox, presumably that works ok without giving messages of not responding.

I closed the only opened Firefox process that was running. Then clicked the Fox to start Firefox again. I received a message: Firefox is already running, but not responding, to open a new window. • Photoshop CS6 - Quick Selection tool freezes Photoshop/ becomes unresponsive for minutes

After only two selections the tool becomes unresponsive for minutes.
I'm on a 2.6 Ghz retina MacBook Pro, 16 Gb RAM, and this in connection with an SSD should make this tool very good to use. Operating system: OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion", latest update.
Unfortunately, it seems to develop some kind of overload, during which you cannot use Photoshop at all. No commands like "undo selection", "quit", "close file" are accepted.
There is no beachball, no other signs that Photoshop is working on something.
Hint: it seems to happen when you option select (subtract from an existing selection).
Hint: the freeze can be shortened by a tool switch (has to be through clicking on a tool, keyboard commands are frozen as well)
Hint: the "subtract selection" move that caused the freeze appears after Photoshop comes back to life after a couple of minutes. The subtraction to the selection seems to be random, makes no sense, and is not the regular function of the tool.
First step after this freeze would be to undo the last selection, and continue working.
If you do several "add to selection" moves, they add up in a kind of waiting line. If you do the subtract from selection move, this doesn't work, and the freeze happens.
So far, I have not noticed the freeze when adding to a selection. Adding to a selection was always quick and instant. The bug must sit in the "subtract from selection" code.
On most freezes, the ants continue walking, I just had one (again with subtracting selection) where even the ants stopped walking.
I don't think it has anything to do with Photoshop working. I have used the quick selection tool regularly under CS5 on my old machine (which was a museum piece), and while I had to wait sometimes, it was never ground to a freeze/halt like the quick selection tool under CS6.

Did this work before, or has it always been this way?  Not a bug or everyone with your system would be complaining.  Have not seen that.
If it has always worked that way a reset of preferences will probably not do anything.
A reset of preferences will reset to factory defaults, so you will have to reset to saved workspace.
Do you have at least 10% free disk space?

  • Firefox keeps freezing with new tab even in safe mode

Firefox keeps freezing, so there's no chance of even a crash report, I can only get out via TaskManager/End process. I usually have dict and thesaurus open while writing, usually with second tab my browser is a still.
It's very annoying as it's also stuck on my screen for a while so I can't continue to work.
I really need that to work or I have to switch to a different browser!
    Thank you.

  • Hello.. I'm having trouble with my google bookmarks since I upgrdaded to Firefox 3.6.6, when I click on my bookmark tab it opens but then closes again in a matter of seconds. I can't seem to get my list to stay open long enough for me to browse through. A

Since upgrading to Firefox 3.6.6 my bookmarks will not stay open, when I click on the bookmarks icon on the toolbar my list opens up but then disapears again with in about 10 seconds.... i.e, not enough time for me to chose which site I want to open. I've tried deleting cookies, temp. files and I even tried a complete re-install of Firefox but I'm still getting the same problem.... Any ideas please?
    Thanks.... Jon T.

I'm having difficulty visualizing what is wrong but try some basic steps first:
Launch Safari while holding a Shift key - this will start Safari with just your Home page
If you can see Reset Safari from the Safari menu, try that.
In addition to downloading and installing Safari again, try reapplying just the Snow Leopard Combo Update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 There is no need to uninstall Safari first.
Lastly try deleting Safari's Preferences file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist

  • Firefox hangs for about 5 minutes on startup and about that long each time I try to do something. How do I fix this?

My problem is basically that Firefox is deadly slow and unusable because of its slowness. It takes about 5 minutes (I haven't timed it) to bring up a window after I click on the Firefox icon in the dock. It beachballs for a while after the window comes up, and then for about five minutes after I click on the "new tab" button next to the current tab, directly above the address bar.
When I went to get the Troubleshooting Information, it didn't take too long. I was able to click on the Help menu, ask for troubleshooting, wait (a while), and then once the page loaded, I was able to copy the information and scroll around the troubleshooting page without difficulty. Other than that, I haven't had the patience to get to any websites. I'm sending this request from inside Safari.
I used Firefox 24 without any problem. I was unable to automatically upgrade to Firefox 25, so I downloaded it, deleted the old application, and went on my way. I started having this problem, so I took some steps based on the Knowledge Base (not listed in the order I tried them in):
    I reset Firefox
I reinstalled Firefox (deleted the old application from the applications folder and dragged in the application from the mounted .dmg again)
    I deleted the profile folder
    I restarted my computer
I confirmed that I'm not running antivirus software
I verified and repaired my disk with Disk Utility, which showed no errors
I ran Rember (one pass), which showed no errors
I started Firefox in Safe Mode
I have twice now gotten the red bar that says, "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem." I am not running antivirus. I tried renaming places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old (there was no places.sqlite-journal), which prevented the red bar from coming up the next time I started Firefox, but two or three Firefox force-quits and relaunches later, it's back again.
Right now I'm looking at 'top' in Terminal, and here's Firefox:
PID COMMAND %CPU TIME #TH #WQ #POR #MREG RPRVT RSHRD RSIZE VPRVT VSIZE PGRP PPID STATE UID
    454 firefox 0.0 00:02.80 25 2 183 534 64M 47M 102M 120M 2894M 454 144 sleeping 1049
Could it be a plugin? I'm not sure where to get this information.
I can post logs from Rember and Disk Utility if that would help.
I am also currently trying to load about:crashes, but right now Firefox is trying to load "https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional?blahblahblah" and there is a little thing that says "Looking up support.cdn.mozilla.net..." at the bottom of the window, so I'm waiting for it to give up on that. To give you an idea of how long it's taking, it already was trying to reach this URL when I started writing this.
    Thanks in advance!

  • MBP freezing/programs not responding with increasing frequency

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro. Lately applications have started "not responding" more and more often. That's always been a problem, but it's never been so frequent before. Additionally, the entire screen has started freezing intermittently, though audio will continue playing. The only way around this problem, as far as I can tell, is restarting. How can I solve these problems?
I'm still covered under apple care.

  • Not responding when opening FireFox 4.0b7

    Hi there,
When opening FireFox 4.0b7 the browser hangs for about a minute and I get (Not Responding). If I use FireFox 3.6.13 I have no problems at all or if I use any of the other browsers, link IE9 Beta. What is going on?
The opening webpage we use is: www.tlc-online.co.uk/ I have changed the opening homepage to www.bbc.co.uk/ and the same thing happens.
Thanks for reading and any help you can give.

This will most likely due to hardware acceleration. There are a number of bug reports that are still being worked on to improve startup times with hardware acceleration turned on.
You can turn off hardware acceleration to improve startup times. To do that in the Tools menu select Options to open the options dialog. Select the Advanced panel, and then the General tab. Uncheck the setting "Use hardware acceleration when available".
