Firefox 4 seems to be incompatible with Windowblinds skins

No matter which Windowblinds skin I use (with Windows XP), the slide to the right of Firefox 4 vanishes. When I remove Windowblinds, it reappears again, so the problem seems to be one of compatibility.

I too was experiencing a similar odd behavior with FF 4.0+ and WindowBlinds 7.2 on WinXP Pro. I initially tried the chosen solution (from jflorez) of disabling Firefox's "Use hardware acceleration when available" option, but this only seemed to work correctly for me half of the time. At this point, I began taking a closer look at WindowBlinds' options in attempts to fix the incompatibility, and fortunately, managed to find a solution.
As Firefox has it own skins (themes), WindowBlinds does not need to touch it at all; effectively, it should simply ignore the Firefox application altogether. This can be done by opening WindowBlinds and clicking the ''Settings'' button (near the top of the ''WindowBlinds 7 Configuration'' window). In the ''Settings'' window, select the ''Per application'' tab and click the ''Add...'' button. Browse to the ''X:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\'' directory and choose the ''firefox.exe'' ejecutable and click ''OK''. In the ''Per application settings'' window under ''Total exclusion'', check the "Ignore this application and do not skin it" option and click ''OK''.
Lastly, if Firefox is currently running, it will need to be restarted for the changes to take effect. In short, I sincerely hope this solution helps other Firefox users who are experiencing this problem.

  • Firefox 4.0 apparently incompatible with Comcast's email Smart Zone Regular - sinxe upgrade to 4.0 cannot access Smart Zone Regular, forced to use abbreviate "lite"!

Spent over half hour with comcast trying to get back to my regular email account/"Smart Zone Regular". None of their "solutions" work. Everything had been fine using comcast email until yesterday when I upgraded to 4.0 Firefox. the only conclusion i can reach is that somehow the newest browser version is incompatible with a major email service, comcast.

You are not alone with issues related to the e1000e (but all they concluded was that reloading the module makes it work again):
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=145564
It seems like this is more your issue:
    http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux. … devel/8932
But if none of those boot flags work for you, then there's not much you can do, and you'll have to write a script to reload the module each time after initial boot finishes I guess until the module gets fixed.
Also, power management of the PCIe interface causes the e1000e to shut off after a while as well (lots of people on CentOS noticing this):
    http://serverfault.com/questions/226319 … ie-aspm-do
So you can use that boot parameter to stop that from happening, if that becomes an issue for you as well.

  • Firefox 5 is apparently incompatible with F-Secure anti-virus; F-Secure repeatedly pops up "Changed Application" messages; How do I restore my previous version of Firefox?

I just installed Firefox 5. Unfortunately, F-Secure's "Application Control" now repeatedly pops up "Changed Application" messages in an endless string. It will not accept my attempts to "Allow" the new version of Firefox. Since Firefox 5 is not compatible with F-Secure, I must return to my previous version of Firefox. I am very disappointed that you have put me to all this trouble. How do I delete Firefox 5 and return to the previous version of Firefox?

"F-Secure repeatedly pops up Changed Application"
So how is this Firefox's fault? Shouldn't you write to F-Secure so they fix that?

  • RAW files seem to be incompatible with my Mac - why?

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro which works fine with RAW files imported from my camera. Why is it my new iMac can't seem to handle RAW files.  I have downloaded the latest software,  but still says they are incompatible.   Suggestions anyone?

It really depends on what the format the raw images the camera produces. If it isn't a .jpg right from the camera, it may require you to download Nikons Software to convert the images before Aperture can handle the Raw Images.
Not being familiar with Aperture I am not sure what this software can handle. I am pretty sure that the software should be able to handle any photo thrown it's way.

  • IPhoto '09 seems to be incompatible with Mountain Lion

    Hi
I am a long-standing major fan of Apple computers. This is because they allow me to work easily with images. I am an art historian and museum curator. My professional life is entirely about images ... or rather about images attached to data.
For years I have been accumulating and categorising images using iPhoto. It has been the most wonderful tool. A clear, simple interface. The capacity to attach searchable free-text metadata. Wow, that simple feature makes this the most powerful application of any I have ever used.
The problems started for me when iPhoto '11 first came out. This removed the capacity to compare photos side by side in full screen mode, a brilliant, simple and obviously powerful feature. As a consequence I did not upgrade, but stuck with iPhoto '09 (8.1.2).
Now I discover that there seems to be a bug which means iPhoto '09 is not compatible with Mountain Lion. Whenever you go into Preferences the computer seizes up and has to be hard-booted. An Apple genius was unable to fix this for me. I've reinstalled the entire operating system to try and fix the problem, but it remains. I gathered from a discussion thread that it was simply an incompatibility with Mountain Lion.
As a consequence I have purchased iPhoto '11 (9.4.1) and Aperture, which I was advised by the Apple Genius would be much better than iPhoto. I have converted my several iPhoto libraries. But I just cannot get anything resembling the clean functionality of iPhoto '09. Everywhere I am cluttered up with gadgetry which I cannot remove. It just is no longer possible to view photos with their basic metadata in a clear and simple way.
The only way I can see forward is to downgrade to Lion, reinstall iPhoto '09, and live the rest of my life without ever upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Forgive the long rant. I am sure people will be irritated and say I should not be using an application designed for holiday snaps for professional purposes. But that is not how I see it. iPhoto is part of the fundamental suite of utilities which makes an Apple computer what it is. That means it ought not to be designed with a single purpose in mind. We are creative people. We use our machines as it suits us to use them. Apple became what it is because it understood that.
If anyone can point me in the direction of a image organiser which allows me to store photos with associated searchable free-text metadata, add dates of my own choosing to the images and to do this in a way which integrates with other applications as well as iPhoto, I'd be so very grateful.
Otherwise I think it's going to have to be the downgrade.
Or could this even be the moment come to abandon Apple? I'm due for a new machine. For the first time in 25 years and six Apple computers I'm going to be considering the competition. Any helpful suggestions would be very gratefully received.
    Thanks.

Yes, that's it! You're brilliant. Thank you so, so much.
Just in case anyone else reads this having had the same problem, the answer is (as Terence says) to delete anything which might cause the computer to try to link to a MobileMe account. My iPhoto libraries had old MobileMe photo galleries which I hadn't bothered about in years. It seems these caused the iPhoto Preference pane to attempt to access MobileMe whenever I opened it. This of course it could not do because the service is defunct and so the computer simply beachballed. In order to remove the MobileMe galleries I found I could only do it if I first disconnected my wireless network. All MobileMe references are gone now (I hope) and everything seems to be working well.
    Hugely grateful.

  • Safari and Firefox seem to have issues with Flash?

Hi - in the past few days every time I try to view a website with video, both Safari and Firefox hang with the beachball and I have to force-quit. I tested to see if it was just taking a long time to load, and it was still the same after an hour. I've read on this forum that Snow Leopard and Flash have some issues, and I've done everything suggested: un-installed Flash then re-installed the latest version, cleared out Safari cache and reset Safari, repaired disk permissions...I am at a loss. Any ideas are appreciated!

    Hi,
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
Make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
If Safari still crashes, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • Firefox seems to mess around with URLs containing certain non-alphanumeric characters.

When I try to access the URL http://www.the-dma.org/consumers/ [followed by anything - or nothing], I get a screen that says "Firefox can't find the server at www.dmaconsumers.org." - but, as you can see, that isn't the URL I was asking for. If I leave off everything after "the-dma.org", it works.
[Incidentally, in this block of this form, when I highlight text and click on either the '''Bold''' or ''italic'' buttons, it is put in quotes instead.]

Yes, as far as I can tell.

  • ADE seems to be incompatible with Apple devices such as iPads and iPhones. Am I right?

I've just signed up to my local library in London, UK, which operates an e-book "lending" service.
Unfortunately they have chosen as their partner Adobe Digital Editions, which appears not to work with most of the popular systems, e.g. Kindle, iBooks etc.
Should I waste more time trying to transfer the books I've managed to download to my Macbook across to my iPad (the sign-up process alone was a massive faff !), or just give up?

Thank you, Toniste, for that suggestion, which I will try. Certainly, trying to import the books into Apple's iBooks produced, for each one, the error message: "This file is corrupted."
    I'll report back !

  • MacBook incompatible with Mountain Lion

My 2008 MacBook seems to be incompatible with Mountain Lion. Is there anything I can do?

Not on that Mac model; to double-check, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and compare its model identifier with MacBook5,1.

If I must replace it where do I get an older version?
    Thanks

Firefox '''4 '''versions '''and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac''' and require at least OS X 10.5 and an '''Intel Mac'''.
The latest''' supported''' version for your os is '''3.6.26''' , your are fully updated.

  • Gmail account manager seems incompatible with firefox

if I use IE then the Gmail account manager always remembers and displays both of my Gmail accounts so I can choose which to sign into.
But firefox never remembers the Gmail addresses from one day to the next , which is very frustrating as is prefer using Firefox for web browsing and also need to dip in and out of each Gmail numerous times a day.
Surely I am not the only firefox user with 2 gmails so someone must have overcome this issue already ?

I couldn't find a method of replying at the time , still trying to figure out how firefox can work for me with 2 gmails.
currently using IE for the gmails and FF for browsing etc - and its clear my pc doesn't like this !

  • My AT&T/Yahoo toolbar is incompatible with Firefox 4. What can I do to get it back?

I upgraded to Firefox 4 on Friday, May 6, 2011. After I finished that upgrade, I got a message that the yahoo toolbar add-on was incompatible with Firefox 4. I downloaded what I hoped was a new version on the AT&T toolbar and it seemed to work for a while, but on Saturday and Sunday my computer crashed several times. I used System Restore and then reinstalled Firefox 4. After a few crashes I decided not to enable the toolbar again. Will there be a version of the AT&T Toolbar that is compatible with Firefox 4? I use that toolbar to access my T&T mail, bookmarks and nearly all my internet browsing.

yes and I tryed going back to my home screen by pressing my home screen button

  • Your latest upgrade states that it is incompatible with my Avast Virus protection and others who have McAfee have the same problem. Does this mean if we update Firefox it will interfere with our virus software?

Your new recommended update appears incompatible with my and other's virus protection. How can we be sure we can safely navigate if your security on the older versions of firefox are lifted? It seems that many people are having this problem and have said they will return to Internet Explorer. Please advise as I prefer Firefox but cannot take the chance of malware and other infections. I would appreciate a hasty response.

No, it doesn't affect your anti-virus program, only the silly little extensions that some anti-virus applications install into Firefox that duplicate features which are built into Firefox = anti-phishing & web forgery protection.

  • Is Kaspersky Safe Money add-on incompatible with Firefox 15?

When Firefox updated to FF 15, it did not show Kaspersky Safe Money extension as being incompatible. However, I cannot get it to work in FF 15 and when I try, it generates 'an unknown software exception 0xc0000417..' error message. Kaspersky itself, lists Safe Money as being fine up to FF 12.x and sure enough when I rolled FF 15 back to FF 12, it did work. It also works fine in IE 8. I have emailed Kaspersky Customer Support to confirm if it is in fact incompatible and if it is, will it soon be made compatible with higher versions of Firefox. Anyone else have this problem? At the rate Firefox seems to update, it is a wonder that any add-ons are able to keep up!

Kaspersky 2012 and 2013 is fully compatible with Firefox 15, if you still facing any issue, please contact kaspersky support about it so that they will fix it via patvh through database update.:)
    good luck
