Firefox 4 will not let me keep my bookmarks listed on the side bar. I can open them there but once I click somewhere else they go away.
Firefox 4 will not let me keep my bookmarks listed on the side bar. I can open them there but once I click somewhere else they go away. On previous Firefox versions I could display my bookmark folders down the left side of my screen and just leave them there, accessing saved bookmarks when I needed to. Now with FF4 I can open a vertical column of my bookmark folders by clicking on bookmarks in the navigation bar but this won't stay there; if I click elsewhere they disappear. I could put a bookmark toolbar on my screen but this takes up more vertical space. I have lots of horizontal space that's unused. How can I go back to the display of bookmarks in previous versions?
You can fix that by going to View -> Sidebar and click on Bookmarks.
Or you could simply use a shortcut

Lightroom will not let me import photos from either my camera or my desktop. They show up in the preview bit of Lightroom and I select the ones i want to import, then add my metadata info etc and file handling, but then when I hit IMPORT just keeps saying they can't be read. SO FRUSTRATING.

I believe DdeGannes suggested permission on the Destination folder (not the source folder). Performing a copy requires only Read&Write permission on the destination folder, not the source folder. You need to go into your operating system and change the permissions to Read&Write on the destination folder. (If you don't know how to do that, go to your favorite search engine and type in Change Permissions Mac) -
Firefox will not let me back up bookmarks worked earlier in April but not now
My bookmarks will not save. I try backing up in downloads section for Windows 8.1 Update 1 and desktop section but nothing. just wont save. Worked back on April 24. Recently I just updated my Adobe applications and Adobe Edge Code CC took over the default file. Maybe that is causing it? I dont remember what the original file was but image was white. Is it notepad or wordpad? Those are the 2 other programs show when I hover over open with after right clicking a prior back up. Anyone know a fix or if this is widespread bug? If its one of those 2 programs and I just have to change back can someone tell me? Any help would be great.
What steps are you following to create the backup -- is it the method described in this article: [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]?
If Windows is not showing the full names of some Firefox files, for example, if it is hiding extensions such as .js and .json, please switch the Windows setting so you can identify the files as accurately as possible. These Microsoft support articles has some different approaches (you probably need to use the "Desktop" side of Windows 8.1 for this):

The address bar in firefox will not let me use down arrow in menu boxes or in the url bar. Usually if I click on the down arrow in the url bar, my most common websites pop up... now it won't show me them...

I have to tell Firefox that I am logging in from "home" every time I log into Facebook. Firefox will not let me unclick ""Send me an email" under Login Notifications in Facebook "My Account" settings. Why? (to both questions)

On Friday, it started working again - and everything was fine. But on Sunday evening I ran the History Clean in Google and when
I went to log back in, I couldn't and got the same "Sorry" message and has stayed this way since.
I ran a Norton scan of the entire computer, a Hitman scan, a CCleaner scan, ... all to no avail. Problem still exists.
I tried to run a restore program prior to the problem, but I am getting error messages like mad.
there has been two Windows Updates in this time frame and I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not - but my Restore program does not work.

My computer's anti-virus software recently expired. A few days later, I went to download a new anti-virus software . . . when I opened up Firefox, I received a warning that claimed Firefox was infected with "Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen", and gave me two options: "Activate XP Security 2011 (recommended)" (this was a $60 charge and required credit card info) or "Continue unprotected (Dangerous)"
Since I needed to install new anti-virus, I figured I would continue unprotected, download my new software quickly, and remove the virus. But when Firefox opened, it gave me a message saying: "Firefox alert. Visiting this site may pose a security threat to your system!". Gave me three options:
1. "Get a copy of 'XP Security 2011' to safeguard your PC while surfing the web (RECOMMENDED)"
2. "Run a spyware, virus and malware scan" (I already did this)
3. "Continue surfing without any security measures (DANGEROUS)"
I tried clicking on different links, but the same warning kept showing up, even on verified and safe sites. I tried to choose the third option so that I could download my anti-virus software quickly, but nothing happened when I clicked on it - the page reloads and the warning shows up again.
My computer is still without anti-virus software because Firefox will not let me surf the internet. Please help!It sounds as though your PC is infected with fake antivirus software. The detailed cleanup instructions vary depending on which fake AV you have. However, as a first step, try this:
Download the following on a different PC, copy them to a USB flash drive or CD, and then run them on the infected PC:

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -

I think Firefox engineers need to improve Firefox between now and the next up-date to make it adequate to handle all major websites. There aren't many websites used by as many people as yahoo. So why have Firefox engineers ignored this deficiency in Firefox? -

updates are stupid. The letest apple itunes update will not let you keep your old password.
Probably pertains to those of us who have kept same password for apple id since inception. New rules make you do all sorts of stupid characters instead of keeping it simple.sam it sounds like ur password has a low level of security and new update wants to to make it stronger
