Firefox 4 won't start on Mac OS X 10.4.11.

I get an error message from Firefox 4, saying it won't run on this level of operating system.
CPU 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
I had to go back to 3.16

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • Firefox suddenly won't start. I open it on my Mac, I see the Apple icon and Firefox where a menu bar should be, but that's it. My only option is to Force Quit. Firefox windows won't open at all. Any advice?

As you can read above, that's it. The only thing I can think of is that I did a Microsoft update and then my Firefox stopped working. It won't start up. Windows and tabs won't open. It's completely unresponsive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled new and old Firefox, yet I have the same problem.

  • Downloaded firefox 5.0.1 last night, worked fine, Turned computer on today, Mozilla Firefox, it won't start. Get error message, Error: Platform version '5.0' is not compatible with minVersion =5.0.1 maxVersion =5.0.1" What do I need to do to fix it?

We downloaded firefox 5.0.1 last night, began working with it. It did fine. After about an hour, I turned off my computer. When I turned on my computer, I click on Mozilla Firefox and it won't start. I get this error message, " Error: Platform version '5.0' is not compatible with minVersion >=5.0.1 maxVersion <=5.0.1" from XUL Runner. What do I need to do to fix it?

The updater wasn't able to update all the files and some were left as older versions.<br />
    Do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Win7 install dvd won't start on mac mini

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my mid 2007 mac mini (running snow leopard) in a bootcamp partition. I created the bootcamp partition (32GB) using bootcamp assistant (no problem there) and inserted the installation dvd, but once the mini reboots to start the installer I just get a black screen (symptoms very similar to those with the late 2006 iMac).
I tried using both the 64 and 32bit version but no difference there.
The win7 install DVD (bought, not downloaded) seems ok as installation as a virtual machine using vmware works.
I'ld really much prefer running windows in a bootcamp partition than through virtualization, so any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

If it won't start past the screen with the Apple logo in the center, there's something very badly wrong with your system. Try starting in safe mode (hold down the shift key at startup, starting when you hear the startup chime and letting go when you see the Apple logo). If it starts up fine then (keeping in mind it will take longer than normal to start up in this mode, so be patient), but the problem returns when you reboot normally, you have some incompatible third-party software installed. What that might be is hard to say.
If safe mode doesn't work either, your system is probably badly corrupt. Try reinstalling. Hold down command-R at startup to enter recovery mode. Once you do that, go to Disk Utility and repair the hard drive. If problems are nonexistent or fixed, quit Disk Utility and then reinstall the system. (This will simply replace the existing system files, and should leave all your other stuff alone.) If problems cannot be fixed, report back for more instructions.

  • Ati Radeon 9800 Pro won't start up mac!

I just got this Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB AGP from ebay and installed it promptly but my mac just won't start up!
I tried placing back my existing nvidia card and it booted up fine. Am i being ripped off with a PC version or something? I noticed there's a extra piece of chip to insert from my old nvdia card but not the new ati one.
But i checked on the net and found that the ati radeon 9800 mac cards also do not have that extra chip.
    Here's a URL of the card i bought. (http://i4.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/da/aa/1988_1.JPG)
Any idea or advice guys? Thanks in advance.

    Hi-
The image is just a stock image from ATI, of a 9800 Pro- which one is impossible to tell.
Since you are calling the card a 256mb version, the card is a PC card (unless it,s blue). It was advertised as a Mac card? If so, it has been flashed. BUT, if it is an 8x AGP card, it needs pins #3 and #11 taped to work in your 4x AGP QS. See this article.
Do you have the eBay link to the card that you bought (the listing)?

  • After Effects CS5 Won't Start on Mac OSX 10.6.3

Production Premium arrived yesterday, and having tried all the software, After Effects is the only one that won't start.
I'm pretty sure my computer meets the spec needed.
I have Intel Core 2 Duo processor, at 2.66 GHz, with 4GB of RAM and loads of hard drive space. Premier Pro works fine, it's just After Effects.
    Help!

I am having similar problems to those described above. I have Master Collection CS5.5 on a Mac running OS 10.6.8. The full suite had been running fine until late October, at which point After Effects stopped loading on launch. Illustrator and Photoshop start and run without problems, but After Effects will/would not launch. It hangs while loading MediaCore. When I launch in safe mode, I get an error with the Verdana font, so I've addressed that problem as suggested above (see my notes below). I successfully launched After Effects one time last week before uninstalling the Master Collection and taking all the steps outlined below, but the software has since refused to launch at all. I have not made any major system changes in the past two months. The most recent change I've made that might be relevant is the installation of FinalCut Pro, but the two packages have coexisted without incident since summer. I regularly use VLC, Quicktime Pro 10 and Quicktime Pro 7, but I have not made any changes to these recently.
Here are the steps I have taken:
    delete user preferences
    remove VLC and Quicktime
run software updates on Mac OS; my last update was a Java patch in late October; roughly coincides with when my troubles began. There are no ATI/Radeon patches available for Mac OS 10.6 that I can find, and I believe that the system's "Software Updates" provides such updates
completely uninstall and reinstall Master Collection and install software updates using "Updates" within Photoshop (have done this sequence three times)
    remove font list ("AdobeFnt11.1.lst" and "AdobeFnt11.lst") in /Library/Applicatio support/Adobe/PDFL/9.0/fonts
use Appzapper to remove After Effects before reinstalling it
boot in safe mode and launch either from .app file or from Package Contents/MacOS/ terminal executable
remove MediaCore components completely by placing them on the desktop
Please help. I can not afford to lose production time on this machine.

  • Oovoo won't start on Mac

    Hi,
I've got a 13" Macbook Pro. I had installed oovoo on it and it was working perfectly. But once I updated my MacBook to from Mac OS X 10.6.5 to 10.6.6, it won't start anymore. When I click on it, it goes into the dock, but suddenly it closes itself.
Does anybody know how I can get it running again?

Well, I just checked their website and that application hasn't been updated for some time; it still mentions "PowerPCs" in their system requirements.
So, just because something worked in 10.6.5, there may have been some improvements in the OS that your oovoo version can not support. You might want to try one fix I found on their website: They say their app does not support running in 64 bit mode. Highlight Safari in the Applications Folder and hit Command + I - check the "32 bit mode". Close window and restart Safari.
Other than that, you will need to contact their support.

  • C3 won't start on Mac

C3 on start up opens the registration dialog window that is blank leaving my programs useless. The only program that does work is Acrobat. Any suggestions?

  • IMac won't start in mac. Will only start in Windows, option key won't work to allow me to get to mac side. downloaded avast last week. Worried this could be the problem??

iMac was making a strange sound yesterday. I shutdown and restarted now it will only boot in windows vista.  I've tried option key that doesn't work, I've tried command R no luck.  I've left un-plugged, not sure what to do. I don't even get the white screen like it's trying to load, it goes directly to windows vista, once in windows I can't get anywhere to try and go back.  I did download avast the other week, it seemed to be running fine until yesterday. UGH

If you are running OS X "Lion" or later, boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. For Snow Leopard, start your Mac while holding the c key with its original OS X Install DVD inserted in its optical drive.
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
If you manage to boot OS X, uninstall Avast. Its effect on a Mac has progressed from complete and utter worthlessness to maliciousness.
Be sure to use its latest uninstaller, which will remove it completely.

  • Firefox just won't start, but IE starts ok ~ I have uninstalled Firefox and downloaded Firefox and reinstalled, but still won't load ~ no error messages show

I have run Firefox with no problems for years, but all of a sudden the last 2 days it just won't load. IE and email works okay. I was able to download Firefox by using IE to get on the internet, but I just can't get Firefix to work. Have rebooted a number of times.

I am running XP/Pro SP3. Last Patch Tuesday I installed the latest Microsoft updates. Yesterday I updated Firefox from 3.6.11 to 3.6.12. Since then I have been unable to start Firefox.
Using the desktop icon, using the start menu icon, double clicking firefox.exe all do nothing - a slight flurry of activity and then nothing.
There are no reports in Event Viewer relating to Firefox.
As reported by another, Internet Explorer works.
I just installed 3.6.11 over top of 3.6.12 and Firefox works again.
Since I would rather have the security updates of 3.6.12, I hope you can get to the bottom of this soon.
    Thanks
    Lloyd

  • Firefox 12 won't start after upgrade from 3.6 in Windows XP with SP3

When I start up firefox after an upgrade to 12 on my Windows XP with SP3 I see the firefox.exe process in Window's Task Manager but it never starts i.e. I never see a browser page. If I try to start it again I get an error message that it is already running.
I have rebooted and even uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox but no browser appears.
Is it possible for my to download the version I had (3.6) and I can just live with that or is there a work-around to get Firefox 12 to work on my desktop?
    Thanks

Well I was able to run the profile creator one time (firefox.exe -p) and I created a profile with it but still not able to start firefox. So I tried to start it again after rebooting. It starts a process which I can see in Task Manager but now I don't get either the Profile Manager dialog box or FF.
I also tried to start the profile manager with this command: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p.
I terminated the firefox process and tried again but get the same results.
BTW, this command: %APPDATA%\MOZILLA\FIREFOX\PROFILES shows a profile called m6woxz30.default, which is not the name I choice for my profile the one time I got the Profile Manager to run.
BTW, thanks for your help and ideas.

  • Firefox 5 won't work with Mac OS 10.4, but I can't afford to upgrade the system; how can I keep using Firefox 4?

This computer is an eMac running the Tiger operating system. Rather than upgrading the entire system, which is costly and time-consuming, is there simply a way to keep using the previous version of Firefox?

Firefox 3.6.28 is the latest version of Firefox that works on 10.4. [[Firefox no longer works with Mac OS X 10.4 or PowerPC processors]] You unfortunately have a PPC processor, so the only way you can use modern software is to purchase a new PC. Or, you can try using [http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/ http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/]. But please note that you will be using a community project that may or may not work.

Try deleting your iTunes preference files (com.apple.itunesxxx.plist, in your user's Library -> Preference folder) and see if that helps.
    Hope it does.

  • Firefox suddenly won't start and I can't open the profile manager; what else should I do?

Firefox was working. When I went to re-open it the wheel spun, stopped, and then nothing. I search online and it said to create a new profile by running firefox.exe -p. But nothing happened. The support article said that perhaps another version of Firefox was running in the background but not visible and to reboot. I did. No difference. I'm stuck. What else can I do?

I tried Safe Mode, but apparently you need Firefox to start regularly and then hit the menu button to get it to start in Safe Mode next time. Unfortunately I cannot get Firefox to start at all.
I'm going to try to save the profile and then re-install Firefox. However, the "Back up and restore" instructions on how to do this are a bit vague. For example, it tells you how to find your profile file by doing a search. But on my computer the search comes up empty (turns out on my computer the file name has the word "local" in the middle of the phrase given in the instructions.
