FIREFOX 4 - YAHOO 'YES OR NO' DIALOGUE BOX FAILURE

I logged on to Firefox to search for something. I got this gray pop-up dialogue box asking me to select Yahoo Tool bar functionality.
I declined on everything because I really hate Yahoo from a disastrous run in with it's instant messaging a year ago.
Firefox proceeded to load me up with the Yahoo toolbar anyway.

SOLVED - Atleast for Now....
So I think I have found the solution to this problem...
I reinstalled windows 8.1...
Then did 2 things..
1: Disabled Skydrive from Group Policy Editor and selected Always save files to local drive.
2: Disabled Bing Search from local file search (Windows Key + C-> Settings->Search and Apps->Search)
Installed Firefox..
and Now I don't have the problem...
I am going to install java, Flash and Addons ..and check again if the same problem occurs again..
Will update what happens..

  • Can't click anything in firefox after closing "printer error" dialogue box.

I'm trying to print an important document off the internet in Firefox. I can't try to restart Firefox without losing access to this document but after closing a "printer error" dialogue box I am unable to click anything in Firefox. I can't use "ctrl+p" to print or any of the other keyboard shortcuts. Right-clicking is also not working.
Running task manager doesn't show any tasks other than the one Firefox window and that shows up as "running" so I don't think it's a case of the dialogue box still being open.
I CAN right-click on Firefox on the status bar to open a new window (which works perfectly fine) or to open a new tab in the malfunctioning window (which is frozen as well).

Goto Firefox Menu - File > Exit
    Try in safe mode
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''

I am using a Apple Mac running Snow Leopard.

I'm not able to reproduce this. I wonder if it is being caused by a plugin or add-on.
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

  • Can't bookmark certain web pages. I press Ctrl-D and the "Bookmark this page" dialogue box does not appear.

For example: If I open the home page of The New York Times and press Cntrl-D, the bookmark dialogue box appears but pressing "done" has no effect, the bookmark is not saved. If I go to a page with a particular article, then the bookmark function does not even appear. At first i thought this had something to do with the web site, but that isn't the problem. I just can't bookmark anything. On some pages the dialogue box appears and on others it doesn't, but the result is the same everywhere: zilch.
And here is something really strange: when i press Cntrl-D on the Firefox start page, the bookmark dialogue box appears with "Board of Education" in the page title field. What is ''that'' all about?
I have tried all manner of fixes: deleting "places.sqlite" and "localstore.rdf" files, operating in "safe mode", disabling add-ons, re-installing Firefox, etc. etc.. Nothing seems to work. I am running the latest version of Zone Alarm Security Suite. It has an advanced browser security function that includes virtualization. I tried disabling the browser security option, but this did not solve the problem, although I still suspect that Zone Alarm could be the culprit somehow (it often is). \
Any and all ideas will be welcome as I am fresh out.

The problem with bookmarking (which I thought I had eliminated with a clean reinstall) has returned after a Firefox update.
    Checked out /questions/743526.
A scan with Malwarebytes did not detect any malware. Not in normal mode, not in safe mode.
And look at the solutions offered by st4dog and jimcou: they each deleted different registry values to get rid of XULRunner.
My problem remains as it was: I don't want to mess with my registry unless I know ''exactly'' what I am looking for (deleting). At least my PC is running, and scans with Malwarebytes, SpyBot SD, Pest Patrol and Zone Alarm AV reveal no infections. If I screw up the registry I think I'll be in a lot worse shape.
Again, until I have ''specific'' instructions on how to get rid of this thing I guess I'll just have to be content with using IE if I want to do any bookmarking.
Thanks for the reference. I do appreciate all of your - and other user's - help in trying to solve this problem.

  • I have just upgraded to OSX 10.6.8 and now I cannot open or save PDF files from the internet. I get a dialogue box saying the QuickTime plugin has failed. I have tried to download the latest plugin but this doesn't work. Can anyone help?

I have just upgraded to OSX 10.6.8 and now I cannot open or save PDF files from the internet using either Safari or Firefox. I get a dialogue box saying the QuickTime plugin has failed. Can anyone help?

Is this what you downloaded: iTunes 10.7?
When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • After opening my yahoo mail window, I keep getting a very narrow dialogue box with the words "log into Xmarks" I cannot ... and everything is frozen. How can I get rid of this thing, and what is it? I have to hit CNTRL + ALT + ESC to get rid of it.

After opening my yahoo mail window, I keep getting a very short and narrow dialogue box with the words "log into Xmarks" I cannot ... when it pops up, always upper left of my laptop screen and I try to get into my yahoo mail web page, I get a DING sound and cannot enter it ... everything is frozen. I have to hit CNTRL + ALT + ESC to get rid of it - and then reload my Firefox browser to get back to my yahoo e-mail page ... fortunately for me, Firefox re-stores a previous session ... How can I get rid of this intrusive thing, and what is it? Thanks in advance ... Ted Beaudoin, Welland, ON, Canada

  • I can't print selected text in a Print dialogue box in Yahoo mail or my bank site. I used to, now I can't.

I am having this problem both in my online banking site and when using Yahoo Mail. When I click on Print on either of these sites and then close the Print dialogue box that automatically comes up, highlight just the text I want printed, then hit Ctrl+P and choose Selection, Print Preview shows me a blank page. When I try printing the selection using either of the 2 printers I have, it prints a blank page. And yet when I do the same thing in Internet Explorer, I have no trouble printing the text I want. I tried doing the prefs.js troubleshoot, deleting everything in that file that starts with print, but it made no difference. I used to be able to print this way in Firefox no problem, but now it doesn't work. Why not, and how do I get it to work again? I'm using Windows XP and Firefox 11.

A bug was introduced in the latest version of Firefox that affects printing selections that are inside a table. Because many pages use tables for general layout (without displaying the borders), this may appear to strike at random.
A fix is expected in Firefox 12. More information: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/923294 how to get print selection to work | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help]
If you expand your selection to include some content outside the table, then the feature should work, but of course it would include some unnecessary information.

  • I accidentally closed the dialogue box when Firefox asked if it was okay for a program to modify my computer. Now I can't open the program.

I have a game (Neverwinter Nights) that periodically updates itself. Yesterday, I got a dialogue box asking if it was okay for the game to modify my computer (happens every now and then). I meant to click "yes", but instead accidentally closed the box (which I believe defaulted to "no"). Now, I can't open the game. How can I fix this?

hello stmanley1970, those dialog boxes are not originating from firefox, but from your operating system windows 7. therefore please contact the support channels of the publisher of this game in order to receive help for this issue...

  • While trying to open Firefox, the dialogue box says another version is open and I'm unable to open any version

I am running Mac OSX 10.6.6. After running Firefox with no problem, it now won't open. When I attempt to open Firefox a "Close Firefox" dialogue box says " A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time".
I searched my computer, threw out all firefox related items and when I download a new Firefox App. the same dialogue box still appears. How can I find the hidden application, close it and successfully open Firefox?

Have you deleted the original files you copied? Deleting means moving to the Trash and emptying the Trash.

    Question
i keep getting a dialogue box asking me if i want to open or save a firefox document every time i click on an email in windows outlook; what can i do to fix this? thank you

Thanks for getting back to me; i was not able to get to the computer until now.
No, not thru web access; it is via the Outlook provided thru Microsoft Office.

  • I get a dialogue box asking "What should Firefox do with this file" Options open with or save file. My wife selected save file and now it only opens note pad and displays the text of the file to be saved. OK in windows Internet Explorer.

  • I don't get the run option in the downloads dialogue box in Firefox. I do get it in Explorer. Why?

I'm currently using Firefox 8, but whenever I try to download a program, like Thunderbird, I can only get Save and Cancel options in the dialogue box. I have to use Explorer to download properly. I have a Sony Vaio NW26M with Windows 7 as operating system. I don't feel clever enough to run Unix or Ubuntu, so I've never tried them.
If there's a sensible place to save Thunderbird and a way of downloading without having to use MS Explorer I'd be glad to know what it is.

Try right-clicking, to bring up a context menu. For an install "Open" would be the same as run.
Since you mention Thunderbird, the install would ask for that application to ended once the installation actually starts.

  • After trying to update Firefox, get a dialogue box everytime I try to open Firefox.

Tried to update Firefox. Now have two separate Firefox icons on my desktop. When I try to open either one, I get a dialogue box reading: "The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again." Firefox loads fine after closing box. Fix?

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    *Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
