Firefox 5.0.1 hangs up. Is nonrsponsive requiring a force quit. No crash reporter comes up. Using Mac OS 10.6.7

Error console is an interesting read. Where do I find the crash reporter log, though I haven't seen it crash per say. Just stop reponding requiring a relaunch.

All I saw was many people with problems that yet to be resolved. The answer was to wait until the Mozilla/Firefox community think-tank comes up with an update.
Also having problems rendering sites. These are known issues told to me by support teams at Discover.com (automatically logs you out after logging in), Google Adwords (won't display the CSS driving a drop dwon menu so that I can manage my clients accounts), Google Chrome download!!!! (trying a new browser because FF 5.0 sucks right now, won't activate the download), Extensis.com (Suitcase Fusion 3, tried to purchase through their store, FF 5.0 would not correctly render the next page, kept logging me out, would not update the cart).
How can I go back and install a version of FF, 4.0+ that is more stable and also have 5.0 on standby for when the patch that fixes these problems comes out?

  • Why is Firefox preventing Windows 7 from shutting down? I must force quit.

When I try to shut down Win7 (Home Premium) , Firefox hangs and must be manually force quit. If I close Firefox before shudown, there is no issue. There are no warnings when I open or close Firefox (3.6.8).

I have the same problem. I run 3 different PCs, all with Windows 7 x64, FireFox 9 in all cases and on all systems this problem happens. When I shutdown Windows while FF is still running, FireFox will hang up and it has to be force closed. When I exit FF before shutting windows down, no problems occur.

  • When I open pages, it immediately hangs up and I have to force quit.

When I open pages from the dock,  the page comes up on my screen but immediately hangs up with the little revolving circle.  I have to force quit finally to get the page to go off my screen.  This is sporodic.  Sometimes it works and sometime it does not.

The Problem Report which I had was: "Pages quit unexpectedly while using the SFWordProcessing plugin".
I'm using iWork '09 in OSX Lion 10.7.4
Here are all the things I tried:
    Deleting preference files
    Deleting iWork Pages caches
Restoring preferences from yesterday's version in Time Machine
Finding the SFWordProcessing plugin in HD/Library/Application Support/iWork '09/Frameworks
Restoring the SFWordProcessing plugin from yesterday's version in Time Machine
Using Disk Utility to repair permissions (none needed)
Using Disk Utility to verify the HD (no problems found)
Scanning the HD for malware with ClamXav (none found)
Showing package contents of Pages and restoring items from yesterday's versions in Time Machine
Opening Pages (successfully) from another user account
The problem occurred after trying to open (convert) a 125-page MSWord document. Pages appeared to hang but was just slow. After opening the file Pages did hang. I right-clicked on the Pages icon in the dock and, seeing 'Application not responding' selected 'Force Quit. Thereafter I had the problem with Pages hanging on opening. I then moved the MSWord document to another location while I discussed with the trusted colleague who'd e-mailed it to me what to do with it.
Eventually, after trying all of the approaches above (mostly suggestions from Apple Community help pages) I somehow stumbled upon what was causing the problem and how to clear it...
In Finder pull down on the 'Go' menu
    Select 'Go to Folder'
Type in ~/Library/ which takes you to your user Library (a hidden folder)
In my user Library I found a folder called 'Autosave Information'
Delete anything in this folder associated with iWork Pages
    Voilá!

  • Firefox only opens when a I run as administrator, crash report comes up when I click on icon and does not open. Help

"when i started my computer today for the first time I clicked on the firefox icon and the crash report came up. I shut down normally last night. I clicked on start firefox multiple times and the crash report kept coming up. I restarted my computer same result. I then tried run as admininstrator and it loaded normally. Now the only way I can run firefox is if I run as administrator. I tried a new profile and that did not work. Same result.

You say click on a file but your do mean you are double clicking to open the file, right?

  • When I try to open Firefox, Mozilla Crash Reporter comes up and says "Firefox had a problem and crashed." "We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts." I've tried restarting the computer several times. It was working fine yesterday.

Before it started with the crash report it was telling me that Firefox couldn't find the server at www.yahoo.com. That's my homepage. I'm writing this on my friends computer and will also be checking my e-mail on it. I don't have any way to get a Crash ID. Thank you very much in advance- Jason

  • ITunes hangs up on certain CDs, requiring a force quit...faulty CD player??

Hello – This may be a question for the hardware forum, but thought I would start here anyway. Some of my CDs are a little scratched. When played on the home CD player or in the car, they play and sound just fine. When I import the CD into iTunes, they often get “hung up” on particular songs in which case I get the spinning beach ball from Hades, ultimately having to force quite iTunes. Sometimes iTunes never even accepts the CD and just ejects it. My question is this: Why does this happen? Is the CD player in my car and at home that much better, or is the one in my computer just over sensitive to corrupt data? Could the CD player in my computer be going bad? Thanks for your thoughts…

iTunes simply doesn't "know" how to quit gracefully when it runs into unrecoverable errors when ripping audio CDs. You might consider repairing your CDs yourself using Brasso and searching the net for detailed instructions as to how to do this the right way, or find a service for resurfacing scratched discs. Then you ought to be able to rip them more easily in iTunes. Otherwise you could try using Max to rip your audio CDs, taking care to select and configure the paranoia ripper properly. This should virtually guarantee cleaner digital audio extraction than you can get from iTunes on any CD, and although it can take a long time to rip a scratched CD, you can almost always complete the process and get very good results. You can quit Max gracefully without hanging your computer; at least that's been my experience.
If you have a lot of CDs to rip and they're not in such great shape, by far the best solution for a Mac user would be to buy a Plextor PX-230A CD-RW drive, an external optical drive enclosure, and use Max. The Plextor drive in question is so good at accurately reading audio CDs that it rarely even has to slow down in the extraction process to re-read damaged portions of the discs.

  • Mail (OS 10.8.2) hangs and spins continually. have to force quit and restart.

I stopped using Outlook (Office for Mac) on my MacAir because it would hang and spin.  But Mail is doing it too.  I used to have four accounts attached (icloud, entourage, outlook, gmail) but took off gmail and outlook and now have only entourage and icloud.  Hasn't made any difference.
    Suggestions?

Please follow these instructions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
    Quit Mail.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar. Paste (command-V) into the box that opens, then press return. A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected  folder — not just its contents — to the Trash.
    Relaunch Mail and test.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • Firefox freezes upon opening up the program. Have to force quit (mac) every time. I've reinstalled 5 times.

I have no idea what's causing this. I used Firefox exclusively for years and one day it just froze. I tried rebooting my computer, and eventually deleting and reinstalling Firefox multiple times. Nothing has helped. It was several months ago that the problem began, so I don't recall exactly what I was doing when it first happened. I've searched my hard drive for leftover remnants of an old Firefox program that might be causing problems, but I've found nothing. I've used Safari ever since and that works fine. I just prefer Firefox so I'd like to be able to use it again. My mac is about 6 years old, using OSX 10.8.5.
    Thanks!

Unfortunately my music software is not compatible with the new Mac OSX update (it may be in the coming months), so I have to stick with this one for now. Do you think Firefox would really just shut me down like that, just because I'm on a previous operating system?
I guess I'll just stick with Safari until my Native Instruments Maschine II allows for the Yosemite update.
Thanks for trying to help out!

  • Export hangs up at last minute, MUST force quit

as of late, the last few weeks my iMovie hd6 doesn't work correct
1 - i had to force quit a few times in order to cut clips at the playhead
2 - (more important to me) i can not export a movie without the spinning beach ball and force quiting at the end
i get to "less then one minute remaining" and then i get the beach ball
if i alt/apple/esc the pop up tells me iMovie is not responding and i have to force quit to do anything else
    does anyone have any ideas?
    thanks

How long are you waiting before force quitting? Try letting it sit for about 5 minutes when this happens. It may fix itself. And don't touch the iMovie window, either, for this will mess it up.

I recently coverted to Lion. When I tried to use Word, the document I loaded hung up andI had to force Quit Word.  Each time I try to open Word now, the same document comes up and I have to force quit. Any ideas?

  • Why does my Firefox crash reporter hang?

Please help as Firefox is my preferred browser followed by Opera and Chrome in that order
Frequent Firefox crashes are disruptive of my workflow which is very web-dependent
    STEPWISE:
    1. I have frequent crashes
    2. The Crash Reporter comes up
    3. Submit report is enabled
    4. I select QUIT or RESTART - a rotating symbol shows the reporter is trying to do something BUT NOTHING HAPPENS
    5. I close the Reporter window
    6. I try to run Firefox again: That brings up the reporter panel again.
    7. THE ONLY WAY I CAN OPEN FIREFOX AGAIN IS TO REBOOT MY COMPUTER.
    8. I switch to OPERA browser to access Mozilla support
    9. I follow instructioins:
If you can't open Firefox because it crashes at startup even in Safe Mode:
    Go to ~/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/submitted.
    10. That brings up a long list of "Reports submitted" all with the following format and all sized 50B containing ZERO INFORMATION
    bp-06def14b-da8b-450e-8157-7ae252141029.txt plain text document 50 B 29/10/2014 21:33:34
    11. Before posting this question I tried to "Automatically add" troubleshooting information - which only brought up the dysfunctioning trouble shooter again!
    12. The link to "try these manual steps" brought up a fresh "Ask a Question" window - presumably because it attempted to open in Firefox instead of OPERA which I'm using to log this this report since I'll have to reboot before being able to use Firefox again.
    SYSTEM INFO:
OS: Ubuntu 14.04 - fully updated
Mozilla Firefox 33.0 (Info via Terminal since Firefox is stalled)
Plugins: Zotero, AdBlock Plus, Print edit, Download Helper (from memory since FF is stalled)
I use Thunderbird 31.2.0 for email - Firefox DOES NOT bring Thunderbird down with it when both are running
BUT Thunderbird also crashes unexpectedly but not nearly as often as Firefox

Is it possible to start Firefox in Safe Mode, I do understand that the frequent crashes are disrupting and after a crash that Firefox will not open, you need to restart the computer.
In about:config are there any changed about:config entries related to the crash report: browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash
However in the meantime I will see what I can find.

  • When Firefox crashes and I restart my Mac, it automatically restores the pages I had open before the crash. I don't want it to restore sessions. How can I disable that?

When Firefox gets hung up, I do a force quit. Then when I restart my Mac, it tries to restore all the sessions I had open before the crash. It doesn't crash often but every time it crashes, it does the automatic session restoration. The crash happens when I haven't shut down my computer for a day or two; it's like Firefox just gets tired and needs to be refreshed. It doesn't seem to matter what windows I had open. I have a MacBook Pro 10.6.8.

We close all applications before we power down the system.  There is nothing open before we turn it off yet the same boxes open when we turn it back on.

  • My firefox installation keeps crashing when I start it up in anything other than safe mode, how can I see the details of the crash report?

I've had Firefox installed on this computer for a couple of years, but only really started using this computer in the last 6 months. Originally Firefox 14, then Firefox 17.0.01, then finally 19.0
It crashed yesterday on starting, I uninstalled and reinstalled and same issue. I regressed back through version 17.0.0.1 and Firefox 14. I updated Shockwave, Flash, Java. I also uninstalled Divx, AC3 and Adobe Reader (recent installs/updates)
Updated MIcrosoft security essentials and ran a scan, no issues discovered. Updated and ran Superantispyware and found 1 Trojan which I removed.
Crash reporter comes up as soon as the firefox link is actioned. Can start firefox in Safemode.

please start firefox in safemode (by pressing the shift-key while it is launching) & go to ''firefox > options > advanced > general'' & disable hardware acceleration.
for some background on that issue you can also refer to [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=812683 bug #812683]
