Firefox 5.0 error: Disabled incompatible add-on "avast! WebRep 20110101"

Last night, I updated Firefox to 5.0 according to Firefox's exhortations. I also updated Avast's (free) engine, program, and virus definitions. I don't recall which I did first, FF or Avast, but I got the FF error
Incompatible Add-ons Found
Some of your add-ons won't work with this
update, and will be disabled. As soon as they
are made compatible, Firefox will update and
re-enable these add-on:
avast! WebRep 20110101
Today, I went through the motions of all of the above Avast updates, though I'm not sure if there was anything new to update.
I tried to navigate to some applications panel on FF to see whether the above add-on was re-enabled. Tools->AddOns isn't it, it simply has a bunch of tabs, one of which is *Get* Add-ons.
I have the following two questions:
1. How do I view the add-ons that haven been added on to FF (I expect that some might be designated as disabled, perhaps even the one mentioned above).
2. What does this add-on do? Is it different from Web Shield, which is shown as running?

'''<u>Web Rep toolbar</u>'''<br />
The toolbar installed into Firefox by Avast (any many other security application have their own similar toolbar) and should be considered optional, but is force-installed by the 3rd-party application. I do not use the toolbar supplied with my security application as it is an extra burden on the browser and duplicates a function built-in t0 Firefox, the Safe Browsing component. I depend on the Safe Browsing component in Firefox to keep me away from known malicious sites. All other parts of your Avast application should still be working as it should, in the background, to protect you. You can post on the Avast forum and receive information and reassurance there.

'''<u>Java Console</u>'''<br />
Unless you do Java programming/development or debug Java applets on web pages, you do not need Java Console. Removing the Java Console extensions has no effect on the functioning of Java for web browsing. You can see, '''''but not remove''''', the Java Console extensions in Add-ons > Extensions. Java Console extensions can be safely removed '''''manually''''' by following the instructions in this article:
'''<u>Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant</u>'''<br />
This add-on was force-installed into Firefox a year and a half ago by a monthly Windows/Microsoft update. Microsoft .NET Framework is not even required on most (maybe 95% or even more) of Windows-based systems. It is very doubtful that you have ever encountered a web site or an application installation that requires .NET Framework. You can ignore it unless you load a website or install a program that says it is required.

  • Why didn't Firefox warn me that it would disable an incompatible add-on prior to silently updating itself?

I just restarted Firefox and a window popped up saying that it had upgraded itself and that it was checking for compatibility with my add-ons. Unfortunately, one of them, which I rely on quite extensively, apparently is not compatible with FIrefox 22.0.
So now I'm stuck. While I'm hopeful that this will resolve itself, I decided to make sure that it won't happen again. I checked my preferences and found that Firefox was set to automatically install updates and to warn me if this would disable any of my add-ons.
So, here is my question: Why didn't it warn me that this would disable an add-on?
I am running (now) Firefox 22.0 on a Mac running 10.7.5.
    --wpd

I have no idea why you did not get a warning. It may be possible to enable the add-on. Click add-ons then extensions this will display all add-ons installed on your firefox. Is there a enable option? If not consider removing add-on and reinstalling it. Hope this helps let me know if it does.

  • The urgent notice to update to Firefox 5.0 for security reasons warned that"Incompatible Add-ons Found" and won't work until made compatible but how do I make them"compatible?"

When I tried to respond to the urgent notice to update to Firefox 5.0 for security reasons I was stopped by a screen that said "Incompatible Add-ons Found" It identified two add-ons, Move Media Player 1.0.0.07103010 and Real Player Browser Record Plugin 14.0.3 that would be disabled. It said that "as soon as they are "made compatible" Firefox will update and re-enable these add-ons" It is not clear who is to make them compatile. I have no idea how to make them compatible and I don't even know what they are for. I don't want to lose any functionality as the result of an update, so what should I do?

  • Installed Firefox 5, Receiving Incompatible Add-Ons Window

I just installed FF 5 and after clicking on the shortcut I receive a window "Incompatible Add-Ons" with the following listed:
    Garmin Communicator 2.9.2
    MS NET 1.2.1
    Adobe DLM 1.5.2.35
    Adblock Plus 1.3.3
The 4 addons were automatically disabled. I then clicked on Check Now and the following updates wee found:
    Garmin Communicator 2.9.3.1
    Adblock Plus 1.3.9
I installed these 2 and received a message that FF encountered problems when updating some of your add ons. I reviewed the add ons and the Garmin Communicator 2.9.3.1 did not install. Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, how did it get resolved?

Either an add-on (or you) set an override for your Firefox version. To clear that:
    (1) Type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type '''usera''' and pause for Firefox to filter the list.
    (3) Right-click and reset any bolded lines that contain "override"
    Any luck?

  • Firefox crashes for 10 seconds when trying to download files, deleting downloads.sqlite, reinstalling firefox, disable all add-ons doesn't solve this problem. Help!

I am having this problem for weeks now.
    What I tried:
    - Defragmentation
    - Reinstall Firefox on a different location
    - Change download location
    - Start Firefox in safe mode and try download
    - Disable all add-ons and plug-ins
    - Complete malware/spyware scan
    - Complete virus scan
    - Delete downloads.sqlite in the profile folder
    - Uninstall firefox and delete the entire mozilla folder in Roaming location
    - Disabling antivirus
Nothing helps! I'm only having this problem in Firefox. Downloading with Chrome for example doesn't give any problems.
How can I resolve this problem? I'm really desperate.
    Thank you in advance!
    Yanco

Thanks for your input but I already said that I deleted downloads.sqlite.

  • I have disable all Add-ons - I've reinstalled FireFox 6 three time and it repeatedly locks up and slide shows fail to load. I have all of the proper Flash and Shockwave type Add-ons. I just can't resolve the problem.

I have tried disabling all Add-ons.
I've reinstalled FireFox 6 three time.
Slide show pics fail to load.
I have all of the proper Flash and Shockwave type Add-ons.
I just can't resolve the problem.
Yet my browser repeatedly locks up

Sending a solution that I have already tried is of no help, but I tried them all again, reloading works sometimes, I have seen in the past that others have had this problem also, of pages not completely loading. So I don't see how you can say I am the only one. When I first started using Firefox it worked great but now it doesn't, one of the updates caused this problem. I guess it's back to IE as it works fine now.

  • Unresponsive Firefox script errors disables all computer audio

I am currently running Firefox version 31, and recently have had it crashing several times a day due to "unresponsive scripts." Whether I tell the script to stop or continue trying, afterwards NO audio on my computer whatsoever will play. Nothing on Firefox, Chrome, windows media, MP3s, etc.
I have already tried making the browser ask for permission to use Flash and other add-ons, disabling my add-ons, not using hardware acceleration, resetting Firefox, and all the other options that FF help suggests. None have fixed this issue. Once the sound has stopped, it won't work in Chrome or anything else.
The scripts commonly occur on Squarespace, which is where my website is hosted. They sometimes occur on other sites, often where (I suspect) Flash is running. I've also tried redownloading Flash as well.
    Can someone please help?

Did you check the Windows Task Manager to see if there are still plugin-container processes present in case that is the cause of this issue?
You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
*check for updates for your graphics drive drivers<br>https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • Firefox loses all charakters after disabling an add-on

Im am using Firefox 29. When I disable the add-on "antialasing tuner" [1], firefox becomes unusable, it loses all charakters. See here:

    What can I do?

  • I am attempting to disable all add-ons in Firefox 9 Mac and am not able to locate a walkthrough. Is there a walkthrough available for this?

I am having issues with firefox timing out on some secured websites. When I use safari, I have no issues. I am hoping that I can just disable the add-ons and then re-enable one by one to resolve. I need a walkthrough for the disable process however.

    Hi usbank1,
I think you are looking for [[Safe Mode]]. All you have to do is hold down the ''Option'' key while Firefox is starting.
Your on the right track for finding your issue. That is exactly the approach I would take!
    Hopefully this helps!

  • PLEASE DO NOT DISABLE MY ADD ONS. INSTEAD AMEND YOUR OWN SOFTWARE. I DO NOT WANT YOU TO DISABLE MY VIRUS SCAN SOFTWARE TREND MICRO ANY LONGER. TREND MICRO IS MORE IMPORTANT TO ME THAN FIREFOX!

I assume you're referring to the Add-On Compatibility Checker disabling your extensions when you update?
To disable Add-On Compatibility Checking you can follow the following steps:
    1) Enter "about:config" into the URL bar (no quotes)
    2) Right click and create a New Boolean
    3) Name it: extensions.checkCompatibility
    4) Set it to: False
You can now restart Firefox and it will no longer disable your addons.
Keep in mind that without the Compatibility Checker Firefox can't guarantee that your extensions will work with the latest versions.

I have tried a clean install including deleting the mozilla folder and it is still happening.

    Hi,
Please check if this happens in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode]. If the problem persists, please also try to '''Disable''' the '''Plugins''' in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Addons'''.

Safe mode disables the installed '''Extensions''', and themes ('''Appearance''') in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons'''. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is '''Tools''' > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General''' > '''Use hardware acceleration when available'''. You do not need to start Firefox to disable the Java Quick Starter, you can do that via the Java Control Panel (Control Panel > Java > Advanced)
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

  • Since upgrading to new Firefox i get Error messages in Firefox and Thunderbird whenever I open a new tab: Type Error: classes (cid) is undefined or Components (cid) is undefined. How can I fix this? It shows up constantly.

This "Type Error: classes (cid) is undefined" or this "Type Error: Components (cid) is undefined keeps popping up in a small pop up box every time I open a tab or switch from Thunderbird to Firefox to open a site,

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)
