Firefox 5.0 gave a BSOD

Firefox 5.0 gave a BSOD when I right clicked tabs bar (in classic firefox mode) . Was using adblock plus, autofill forms,download statusbar, downloadhelper, greasemonkey, noscript,java console and reload every add-on. I removed reload every just in case.

If in doubt, do the update this way:
If you have the orange Firefox button (abbreviated menus), hover your mouse over the triangle to the right of Help and choose About Firefox. Then use the Check for Updates button.
If you have the classic menu bar, Help > About Firefox. Then use the Check for Updates button.
By the way, the update is Firefox 5.0. There is no intermediate update between 4.0.1 and 5.0. (Welcome to the new world of rapidly escalating version numbers.)

  • I had firefox. Update gave me malicious software. I have uninstalled firefox. Is it now safe to re-install, details please.

    After automatic upgrade to firefox 16 my search engine went to isearch Claro and would not allow removal.
    Eventually I had to do a full restore and this seemed to cure the problem. I have uninstalled firefox as a precaution but want to know if it can now be re-installed and also whether it will support Norton tool bar?
    I need advice and reassurance, I like firefox but do not want security problems.
    Regards
    Bob

    Such Firefox problems, (if related to the download file) tend to be either false positives, (in which case full details may be useful so that the problem could be investigated) or due to downloading and using unauthorised copies of Firefox.
    Try installing from:
    * http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    Note Firefox does provide some attack and phishing protection by default
    * http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/phishing-protection/
    Utilities such as Norton Safe or whatever do sometimes fail on new Firefox versions, until the company concerned updates the software. Hopefully the core security software from Norton will continue to work. You may also not that MS Windows provides a Firewall as part of the OS & also makes available basic free security software such as MS Essentials.
    I am wondering whether part of your problem may involve some form of search hijacking. Because some of that type of software is installed by user choice; often bundled with other software, security software may not prevent installation.

  • BSOD Caused on Windows 7 64-bit while watching Netflix Instant in Firefox 4.0

    Starting with the latest version of Firefox 4 - I'm getting BSoD's in Windows 7 64-bit SP1 while watching Netflix Instant. My system will crash with a DirectX DLL file being labelled as the culprit.

    Disregard, it turns out to be an issue with the latest WHQL nVidia drivers, I rolled back to a previous version and the problem stopped. I only found this out after experiencing the same exact crash in IE9.

  • Firefox will not let me get on any websites (safe AND not safe), claiming that it "may pose a security threat to your system"; when I try to choose the "proceed unprotected" option, it won't let me.

    My computer's anti-virus software recently expired. A few days later, I went to download a new anti-virus software . . . when I opened up Firefox, I received a warning that claimed Firefox was infected with "Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen", and gave me two options: "Activate XP Security 2011 (recommended)" (this was a $60 charge and required credit card info) or "Continue unprotected (Dangerous)"
    Since I needed to install new anti-virus, I figured I would continue unprotected, download my new software quickly, and remove the virus. But when Firefox opened, it gave me a message saying: "Firefox alert. Visiting this site may pose a security threat to your system!". Gave me three options:
    1. "Get a copy of 'XP Security 2011' to safeguard your PC while surfing the web (RECOMMENDED)"
    2. "Run a spyware, virus and malware scan" (I already did this)
    3. "Continue surfing without any security measures (DANGEROUS)"
    I tried clicking on different links, but the same warning kept showing up, even on verified and safe sites. I tried to choose the third option so that I could download my anti-virus software quickly, but nothing happened when I clicked on it - the page reloads and the warning shows up again.
    My computer is still without anti-virus software because Firefox will not let me surf the internet. Please help!

    It sounds as though your PC is infected with fake antivirus software. The detailed cleanup instructions vary depending on which fake AV you have. However, as a first step, try this:
    Download the following on a different PC, copy them to a USB flash drive or CD, and then run them on the infected PC:
    Malwarebytes Anti-malware : http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
    SUPERAntiSpyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/
    Hopefully these will get you back online safely. If not, search for clean-up instructions for the specific malware.

  • Hi I have installed Firefox 4.0 i got information that Firefox 4.0 don´t support my firewall Zone Alarm seco

    Firefox 4.o gave me the information that it doesn´t support this files and further more it doesn´t suppurt microsoft.net framwork assistent 1.2.1 either.
    I have XP service package 3 as my plattform.
    Now i have removed Firefox 4.0 from my computer, could and should i reinstall Firefox 3.6.16.1 to get firefox at all?
    With warm regards
    Carl-Rune

    Until Zone Alarm updates it won't be compatible. You do have an old version of Microsoft.net Framework. The most current is for 3.5, you can update your Firefox Add-on here: [http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=cecc62dc-96a7-4657-af91-6383ba034eab&displaylang=en Update to .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 for the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 for Firefox ]
    You can actually have both 4.0 and 3.6 on your computer at the same time (unlike Internet Explorer). If you want to keep 4.0 until Zone Alarm is supported, just go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Firefox 3.6], download and run the installer. Click Next on the first screen the select the Custom radio button, Next. In the Destination Folder box just rename "Mozilla Firefox" to "Mozilla Firefox 3.6", Next. The next screen is for where you want the icons, deselect where you don't want the shortcut to appear, Next. The next screen is where it'll add it to your Start Menu, just click Next, then you can click Install if you want 3.6 to be your default browser (just deselect the box if you don't). That's it! If you want to remove 4.0, just go to Add/Remove in your Control Panel and uninstall it but keep your personal files.

  • How to register a protocol to firefox 6.0.2?

    I updated firefox from version 3.5.15-12 to firefox 6.0.2. I am using fedora 12 and I used to have a script to open links such as for instance "sip://12345". But this seems to be not possible in the 6.0.2 version of firefox. I tried editing "about:config" but doesn't work. When I input "sip://12345" in the navigator bar firefox gives me a message telling me that there is not an application associated to the protocol sip and I would like to know how to add it as I did in the old version.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi and first thank you. I have read that page some days ago and probed everything but didn't work. I mean I probed: "All Firefox versions", "Firefox 3.5 and above" and "Firefox versions up to 3.0" ways. But didn't work.
    The "All firefox versions way" gave me an error about permissions telling me that something was for read-only. So to solve that I typed the following commands:
    1) sudo gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory --type bool --set /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/enabled true
    2) sudo gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory --type string --set /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/command '/usr/local/bin/program_to_open_sip.sh %s'
    Where 'sip' is the protocol I want firefox to open.
    Then I travelled through gconf-editor and found that the two keys I had created with the two commands above didn't have a schema. So I tried to add a schema to them editing the file /etc/gconf/schemas/desktop_gnome_url_handlers.schemas and adding the following content:
    <schema>
    <key>/schemas/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/enabled</key>
    <applyto>/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/enabled</applyto>
    <owner>gnome</owner>
    <type>bool</type>
    <default>true</default>
    <gettext_domain>gnome-vfs-2.0</gettext_domain>
    <locale name="C">
    <short>Whether the specified command should handle "sip" URLs</short>
    <long>True if the command specified in the "command" key should handle "sip" URLs.</long>
    </locale>
    </schema>
    <schema>
    <key>/schemas/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/command</key>
    <applyto>/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/command</applyto>
    <owner>gnome</owner>
    <type>string</type>
    <default>/usr/local/bin/program_to_open_sip.sh %s</default>
    <gettext_domain>gnome-vfs-2.0</gettext_domain>
    <locale name="C">
    <short>The handler for "sip" URLs</short>
    <long>The command used to handle "sip" URLs, if enabled.</long>
    </locale>
    </schema>
    <schema>
    <key>/schemas/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/needs_terminal</key>
    <applyto>/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/needs_terminal</applyto>
    <owner>gnome</owner>
    <type>bool</type>
    <default>false</default>
    <gettext_domain>gnome-vfs-2.0</gettext_domain>
    <locale name="C">
    <short>Run the command in a terminal</short>
    <long>True if the command used to handle this type of URL should be run in a terminal.</long>
    </locale>
    </schema>
    After that I loaded the schema with:
    gconftool-2 --install-schema-file=/etc/gconf/schemas/desktop_gnome_url_handlers.schemas
    And applied it with the following:
    gconftool-2 --apply-schema /schemas/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/command
    gconftool-2 --apply-schema /schemas/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/enabled
    gconftool-2 --apply-schema /schemas/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/sip/needs_terminal
    I restarted the session and also the PC, then I opened firefox and typed in the navigator bar "sip://something" and firefox told me that it didn't know how to open that kind of things. Also when I go to Edit->preferences->Applications I see evertyhing but not sip. It's like I am not doing anything.
    In addition I tried editing about:config keys as I mentioned in my first message but nothing happens...
    I am a bit lost in this, the old version always asked me something like "What program do you want to use to open things like 'sip://123123'" and then it saved that configuration, but this version has something hidden.
    Thank you again

  • BSOD in Windows 7 on 5 MacMini's

    I have been trying to determin what the cause is of this for over a week now but I am getting really frustrated with constant failures and could use a little direction.
    I have 5 Macmini's that I am setting up for work with Windows 7 x64. This is a VLK version not retail. Four of the Mini's are late 2012 Models, one is a mid 2010 version. The 2012 Mini's are running Bootcamp 4.1 software and the 2010 Mini is running Bootcamp 3.3 software. They all seem to function correctly except for the random shutdown after a BSOD. Most of the time it happens after work hours or maybe once or twice during the day when I am not around to see it. Below is an image  with some information about the crash:
    I thought at first it was a bad copy of the OS so I burned a new disk from the VLK image we have on a server, and also tried an official Retail Disk that I had as well but both still gave the BSOD. So I thought maybe an update is problematic so I installed it with only Bootcamp drivers and Kaspersky but it is still giving the BSOD. The image above is from this last minimal attempt. It is always the same BSOD error though Paramiter 2, 3, and 4 are slightly different. I don't really have much exp reading and understanding dump files so not sure what to do next. I will post a link to the dump file once I get it uploaded.

    The drivers are fine? the systems are at least running something to report temps? there is almost zero support for the fans in Windows to respond to thermal sensors.
    Windows is good in one respect, it will react more often to marginal and bad RAM that is not picked up with AHT or OS X and there is Windows own single user memory test utility.
    Same pretty much true for weak and bad disk sectors.
    So ruling out the OS and trying to rule out drivers. Apple drivers for accessing HFSX volumes is a bit weak (and if you did have an Apple software RAID online it would crash but usually that is on startup when it tries to access and mount all volumes‚.

  • Error message when firefox opens

    I was unable to load firefox. It gave a message that firefox was running and that i needed to restart my computer. I did that several times and it still did not work. When I restarted the computer it recommended I restore due to issues, I did so and then Firefox would not loaded. So then I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it. After uninstalling, I get the message above, but after i click ok, it does allow me to use firefox, but i have concerns.
    error message: Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

    Make sure that you allow the loopback connection that Firefox uses to communicate with the software security device in the firewall.
    See [[Firefox makes unrequested connections]]
    Rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] in case there is a problem with the file.<br />
    You may have to rename cert8.db (cert8.db.old) as well.<br />
    Firefox will create new files.
    The file cert8.db stores user certificates and intermediate certificates send by websites, so if you have certificates that you want to keep then you may want to export them now and import them after having removed cert8.db.
    See Tools > Options > Advanced > Encryption: Certificates: View Certificates
    If that works then you can delete the renamed files or undo the changes if you want to revert the process.

  • BSOD with SP1 :-(

    Hey folks,
    I'm building my new machine right now, and I'm having a heck of a time trying to get this thing to run on WinXP with SP1 installed.  Here's the setup
    MB MSI|VIA K8T800 K8T NEO-FIS2R
    CPU AMD 64 |3200+ ATHLON 64
    DDRAM1GB|PC3500 991091 MUSHKIN RT
    Antec 480w PSU
    Audigy 2
    Firewire card (2 new ports)
    When installing WinXP retail, the machine seemed to run fine.  The minute I tried to install SP1 and reboot, I received an "error loading operating system".  No dice...so I slipstreamed SP1 onto winxp and tried to reinstall.  I'd delete the partition, format the disk, and install xp.  After the XP loading screen (when you're loaded in to install win xp), I'll get a BSOD almost every time.
    This seems to me like a software issue, but I don't know what to do about it.  Anyone have any ideas?  I'm running v1.6 BIOS (that's what was on the mobo when I received it).
    Right now I'm trying to adjust the RAM to DDR333 in the bios and reinstall everything.  I won't know till later if this works.  Anyone have any other ideas?  :-(
    Thanks!
    adam

    In this situation I would use restore to go back to a date when everything was working right.
    To do this boot up hold down F8.  Then choose safe mode in the startup screen.
    When windows loads it will ask you "do you wanto continue in safe mode Yes or No or hit No to restore"  Hit "NO" to go into restore then it gives you a calendar and you pick a date (like a day or two ago) when your machine was running right and it rolls back settings and drivers to that date.
    This has worked for me in the past when I installed drivers that gave me bsod on bootup.  I have never had to use it for sp1 so I'm not 100% sure if it will work for you good luck.
    UPDATE:  I reread your post and I think I misunderstood.  OK so you already deleted the partition, so what I mentioned above will probably not work but mabe it will help someone else.

    If you have made changes to Advanced font settings like increasing the minimum/default font size then try the default minimum setting "none" and the default font size 16 in case the current setting is causing problems.
    *Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
    Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.
    *Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
    It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but to use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with text not being displayed properly.

  • Graphics Drivers BSOD Brightness

    I recently purchased HP 15-ac027tx having intel 5th gen i5 processor with amd raedon R5 M330...........i just wondered for a week for the drivers to download. HP drivers page for my product consists of all drivers out of which the graphics one for AMD HD Graphics Driver (sp71335.exe) says "Cannot be unpacked Check integrity and blah blah" i again searched HP and found another one called sp71334.exe which was a reply for help to someone. Tried Installing this sp71334.exe which clearly states supporting my graphics card AMD Raedon R5 M330 but the results are horrible. No switching of GPU or either i could see screen going blank and BSOD saying atikmpag_sys dumping process. Brightness Could not be controlled keyboard buttons...rest all volume and all are working. After restart it detects the Graphics device and both intel and amd had an exclamatory mark then after plugging the charging cable gave me BSOD. I have tried all the drivers from the intel amd latest ones with HP which i tried the first. Please help me. I am having Nightmares. Please do the needful as soon as possible. I hope you will ask for the device ID's so here are they.   video

  • FireFox freezes on startup even in SafeMode and after Reset

    So I tried to clear my history the other day but firefox froze and gave me the spinning beach ball routine. So I killed the application. Upon restarting firefox it would go into session manager and then just hang. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox. This time I was given the option to Rest or for SafeMode. I chose SafeMode and again FireFox froze. After killing the app and trying again I was given the same option except this time I chose Reset. Again, the program is unresponsive. I'm to sure what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    hello, some users could reportedly solve those crashes when they uninstalled "Asus Gamer OSD".

  • How can I revert from Firefox 4.0 to the previous version? 4.0 will not load TextAloud.

    Firefox 4.0 gave me a message that it would not install TextAloud.

    Thanks for the information. I am reverting back, because I use delicious bookmarks and Firefox 4 does not have the add-on.
