Firefox 5 - odd bookmarks toolbar intermittent problem

Since upgrading to Firefox 5, I've run into an intermittent problem with the bookmarks toolbar. I have a fairly wide/deep bookmarks structure. Intermittently, when I click on an item in the toolbar, nothing happens. No dropdown list of sub-bookmarks occurs. Sometimes, if I move the cursor back & forth along the toolbar, then go back to the item I want, it will work.
Usually, when this happens, none of the entries on the toolbar will "work" but sometimes, the only one that won't work is the >> for the bookmarks that can't fit on the toolbar.
Eventually, all the items on the toolbar become active again - either because I've repeatedly moved the cursor along the toolbar or have opened a new firefox window or some other random event happens.
I can't test this in safe mode because it is an intermittent problem - happens at least once a day but depends on how many hours I'm online - and when I'm on the web, I'm working - so I need all the addons I have installed. In other words, I can't do my job if I use safemode w/ just the bookmarks toolbar & no addons.
Nor can I enable/disable addons to see if one of them is responsible because the problem doesn't occur on any schedule & I only have addons that I use daily.
I'm posting this question primarily to alert others in the event that somebody else has noticed the same problem. It is an extremely irritating but not fatal problem.

All of a sudden an additional "Search Web" box has appeared on my firefox below the bookmarks toolbar and above the tabs bar. I am not able to remove it through customizing the toolbars like you do with all other icons, etc. Could somebody help me?

This new "Search Web" box/bar has a magnifying glass on the left side and on the right, just outside of the box, there is "-or-". I am unable to remove it or even just move it around the toolbars, and it is unresponsive to any left or right clicks. Installed a newer version of firefox, now all bookmarks, toolbars etc gone - cannot restart firefox - help!

not sure what details you want here - seems that Firefox is running in safe mode and I can find noway to restart it. viewed some restart download shortcuts and says they are not applicable to the new version.

You should have done a backup of your bookmarks, first.
Depending upon how old a version of Firefox you were using before, you should search your hard drive for a file named '''places.sqlite''' which is the file where Firefox stores bookmarks in modern versions - Firefox 3.0 and later.

Mozilla shows snippets on the about:home page to run different campaigns and that changes regularly.
If you prefer not to see snippets on the about:home page or if there are problems with a snippet then you can set the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref to an empty string on the about:config page.
Delete the storage\persistent\moz-safe-about+home folder in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed ("3-bar" Firefox menu button > Exit/Quit) to remove snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox use a default snippet set.
You can reset the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref via the right-click context menu to the default value to re-enable the snippets and make Firefox recreate the moz-safe-about+home folder.
Close and restart Firefox after changing the value of the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref.

How can i use text only instead of text plus the folder icon in the bookmarks toolbar; older firefox allowed this.

I prefer using text only instead of text plus a folder icon in the bookmarks toolbar because it used less space and I can display more bookmark folders in that toolbar. You can see your bookmark toolbar by right click on the top of firefox and select "bookmark toolbar". The toolbar will shown when you open firefox

How do I set my bookmark toolbar to text and all other toolbars to icons?

It seems I can change all toolbars to either be text or icons. I want the look of Firefox 3. In Firefox 3 the bookmarks toolbar was text only wile the navigation toolbar was icons. I can't figure out how to have my Back/Forward/Home buttons be icons with my Bookmarks in the toolbar be text only.

How to get rid of text in bookmark toolbar? the default reset will not work

my bookmark toolbar has changed. I clicked on default reset so just icons show but it will not work. can not get rid of text.

The Bookmarks Toolbar, by default, shows both icons and text. Here is an Add-on that will allow you to show only the icons.

I can't put websites on my bookmarks toolbar

I have a work laptop and every year they clear the memory. When I went to set up Firefox with my bookmarks toolbar, it doesn't work. I have the toolbar, but when I try to drag the website icon to the toolbar, a circle with a slash through it appears - Firefox won't let me. What can I do??

With upgrade to 4.0, my bookmarks toolbar expanded; I want the condensed look back.

In previous Firefox version, my Bookmarks Toolbar was just the small icon, like the W for Wikipedia, or the ebay's logo. With the upgrade, the icon has expanded to include text. This is not the same problem as the icons/texts of the search bar with the home button. How can I get it to display only the picture reference in the bookmarks toolbar?

On Firefox I don't have the toolbar that has tabs for 'new folder' etc, in fact I can only create new folders when I am bookmarking a new page.

My Firefox 6.02 bookmarks toolbar shows the same two bookmarks repeatedly (3 times and two times) so there is no space for the favourite bookmarks I had originally.
