Firefox 5 upgrade no longer shows up in my bookmarks sidebar.

Since upgraded to FireFox 5 my windows 7 machine no longer lets me view bookmarks in the side bar or under the all Bookmarks Tab. The only item that shows up is the Bookmarks Toolbar folder, but no bookmarks are displayed. When I use the top tool bar the bookmarks are visible and I can use them. Any suggestions. Can export the bookmarks either.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Why do recent Firefox upgrades no longer work as smoothly as they used to?

If I remember correctly, Firefox used to install or at least download upgrades automatically then prompt to ask if I want to to save or run. Then it would restart the browser to let the upgrade complete or ask if I wanted to allow it to restart.
Recently, Firefox upgrades are annoying and no longer automated. I get a prompt asking where to save the installer, e.g. Firefox Setup Stub 33.0.2.exe. It saves the installer and stops. Then we have to navigate to where the file was saved and run it manually. Next I get another prompt asking to save the installer a second time which I assume to be an error and dismiss. Finally, instead of simply prompting the user to restart to allow the upgrade to finish, we get a pop-up message warning that Firefox is already running with a less clear message: "Please close Firefox prior to launching the version you have just installed." Most people wouldn't try to open Firefox again when it's already open.
Now I'm wondering, was it my imagination that Firefox upgrades were once smoother and more automated?

Firefox on Windows never had the ability to run .exe due to security and common sense reasons.
Also who do you think people will blame when they get infected after they run a iamreallyavirus.exe before scanning it.
An update is done in Firefox itself.

Firefox is no longer showing pictures within icons

Hi,
My Firefox has stopped showing pictures within icons.
If you can imagine an webpage that is used to send and receive email. This webpage has the "Reply" button. My reply button used to have a left arrow picture within the button however now there is nothing but a faint grey box. There is nothing that denotes this box as a button (reply or otherwise) . If I hover over the box the word "reply" will appear.
All websites are like this...no "rich" web experience...just a white page ans faint grey boxes.
I am operating Windows 7 Home edition.
I uninstalled FF and reinstalled it and still no luck.

I performed both of the fixed suggested above and still no pictures within the buttons. I closed FF and restarted and no joy.
Can you PLEASE keep scratching your brain and think up something eles?
As described...when looking at my email web page there used to be in the "reply" button a left pointing arrow and the "forward" button had a right facing arrow. Now there is nothing but a very faint box around where the button is (almost cannot see it). It is the same with other web pages as well.
If I hover over the button the "Reply" cloud-ey thing pops up.
Without the pictures in the icons it makes the email page almost useless.

There are more people there that actually use Firefox Sync and occasionally one of the Mozilla Labs developers answers user questions in that forum.
I tried that extension about a year ago, and over the few months I used it I realized that I didn't like the direction that the development was headed. IMO, the features are too limited and they (Labs management and the developers) are intent on "dumbing-down" the UI to appeal to the "unwashed masses", which IMO doesn't make that service suitable for intermediate and power users. IMO they are mimicking Opera and aren't talking into account that Firefox has many more "power users" than Opera does, IMO.

Try to delete the MRU (Most Recently Used) ComDlg32 registry keys with the regedit.exe program.

"Show Bookmarks" in 6.1.2 no longer shows visual of webpages bookmarked. Can I get it back like before the update?

Show Bookmarks has changed with the last update I recently did.
I really like the visual panel of the urls and a slide bar to select a bookmark with the description of the url, and the date I bookmarked. It's all gone in 6.1.2.
I look at my old MacBook with Safari 5.0.6 and it so much better.
I hate doing updates on my devices. Everything is for security, and then the beauty and utility of what I'm used to and love is gone.
I won't update my iPad 2 to iOS 7 because the flat and neon colors is ugly.
I don't want to go to Mavericks from 10.8.5 because I don't see what changes are better.
I want the prior Safari version. "Seeing" is how my brain works fast.
Can I get the prior version for Show Bookmarks?

It is sad that Apple's visual user interface is being eliminated, reduced and made common.
Jonny Ive changed things on the iOS and OS for the worse by these sorts of design and user changes. He may be all-genius of thin and aesthetic, but the direction he is taking the software is very retrograde. Like Steve Ballmer would think.

That should work the same way. However, you might want to check "Unsorted Bookmarks" to see whether they are in there. This can be found at the bottom of the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+b to open).

Nope, they don't - and we are up to version 7.1 now. I have done a good bit of searching on this subject, and it is a frequently asked question. I don't understand why Apple don't implement it. It is the only reason I am currently using Chrome instead of Safari. I have too many bookmarks on my toolbar for them all to have names, using the icons allows me to pack them in tight and have instant access to lots of sites I use frequently.

THE TOOLS MENU NO LONGER SHOWS "OPTIONS" AFTER I UPGRADED TO FIREFOX 5

When I click on the Tools menu, the drop down menu has blanks after "Web Search", "Set Up Sync", and "Page Info". "Options" used to be in one of those spots, and Options no longer shows. Firefox 14.0.1 is NO longer showing the Norton SAfe Web icon in seacch results. The toolbar is there but NOT the safe web icon next to the URL in search results

After updating to Firefox 14.0.1 my search results NO longer show the Norton WEB Safe Icon next to each result. It worked fine before the upgrade. The Norton tool bar is there and when you click on the site the safe web report is there but NOT the icon in the search results.

Norton released updates for Firefox 14 early the same morning as the release of Firefox 14. Norton usually releases updates on the same morning as new Firefox versions. Have you updated Norton through their LiveUpdate?

I completely uninstalled everything associated with firefox in synaptic package manager, then reinstalled the latest version of firefox again.
Evidently one of the add-ons was preventing firefox from opening, not sure which one though. I hope this will help someone else. Firefox is working now.

I know you can't help with my Yahoo problem, however, apparently at some time in the past I have went to the Sync and tried to figure it out on both my laptop and my desktop, because I have the long snyc key information. However, when I go to try to sync both computers I never get the box to enter that key on either one. That is my problem. So should I try and get a new sync key and see if that works.
