Firefox 6 on Puppy Linux: Does not close properly

OS is Puppy 528 (Linux). With Firefox6, close of program is incomplete. Window disappears, but when I try to access again I get message that Firefox is already running. I kill the program from my process manager and all is well.
Box is Dell SX280 with 1 gig RAM. Presently running Firefox 3.6.13; afraid to upgrade

here is a solution for you
grep 'URL=' < file.url | sed 's/URL=//g' | xargs firefox
change file.url to the name of your shortcut, I did not come up with this, but found it with a google search, one of the first page results when I searched for open .url file in firefox linux

  • TestStatnd operatore Interface does not close properly

    Hi
I am using LabVIEW 8.2 and TestStand 3.5. I use the default Operatore Interface (full featured) provided by NI. The TestExec.exe does not close properly when I exit the application. Everytime the process is running in windows. I had to use Windows Task Manager to kill the TestExec.exe manaully.
Is there a fix for this?
    Thx
    Abdulla

    Hi,
Do you start any new executions either from within your sequences or from within a step that you are not closing properly?

  • TestStand Simple OI does not close properly

    Hi there.
We have build a test system that is running TestStand 4.2 and the code modules are created with LabVIEW 9.0. The SW is running on a PC with Windows XP.
We are currently using TestStand Simple Operator Interface (LabVIEW version) to run the tests, and it is with the Operator Interface that we are having a problem.
If we use the TestExec.exe file that came with the TestStand installation everything works fine. But we need to make some modifications to OI and if we open the project file and recompile the OI, then the OI will not close properly. It seems to shutdown the testengine and stop execution of the VI, but the window does not disappear until we move the mouse.
When I open the project file LabVIEW informs me that the project was last saved in version 7.1.1 and we are now running 9.0.
Can anyone tell me what is holding the window on the screen until there is activity on the mouse?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I was looking through TestStand 4.2 known issues, and I found this:
    ID# 148697
LabVIEW User Interface might hang when using LabVIEW events
A LabVIEW User Interface that registers ActiveX callbacks and uses an event structure might hang when the user interacts with a LabVIEW control or indicator. The hang is rare, but when it occurs, TestStand User Interface (UI) Controls remain responsive, but all LabVIEW User Interface elements appear frozen.
Workaround: Activate another application and reactive the LabVIEW User Interface.
Not exactly the same as I am experiencing but sounds similar - Does anyone know more about this issue?

  • Report window does not close properly when using openDocument

    XI R2 InfoView
    Windows 2003 server
    IIS
    IE7
We have been experimenting with the use of openDocument and have managed to achieve what we wanted but have one small problem.  When the document is retrieved it is opened in a new browser window.  When Close is selected from the drop-down Document menu the document is closed but the window shrinks to approx 8.5cm x 6 cm and remains open.
A similar thing happens when we use the Preview button to view a document in the CMC, except in that case the document does not close and closing the browser window leaves a button on the Windows taskbar.  There doesn't appear to be a related window as it cannot be restored but you have to right click and select Close to get rid of it.
Any ideas what is causing these problems and how we can get round them?

    Anne,
There are some parameters in opendocument (for ex. sWindow) that can help control certain things, have you tried employing anything like that?  What I find frustrating is the behavior of opendocument based on whether you're running Infoview or WebI -- each product, using the same exact opendocument syntax yields different results.  Based on the sample code below, what I'm seeing with Infoview is the same browser instance is used for calling the child report, however, in WebI, a new browser instance is started and the child report is rendered in Infoview.  In my case, when running within WebI and getting a new browser instance in Infoview, and then using the "Document", "close" workflow, the second instance is exiting and I'm back to the previous browser.  Staying within Infoview entirely through the process, when closing the child report I get brought back to the folder list page.  Who's to know?

  • Firefox 6 on Windows XP SP3 does not close properly after checking if plugins are up to date.

After doing Tools > Add-ons > Plugins > Check if plugins are up to date, Firefox process will not exit after closing Firefox.
I can close the window, but Firefox process does not exit. New window does open if I click Firefox icon to launch it. After reboot Firefox complains that some tabs could not be opened, as if it had crashed because of reboot.

i deleted the rdf and now the first window only (and any tabs in it) are maximised. i found this in the rdf
    <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#main-window"
    screenX="4"
    screenY="4"
    width="1008"
    height="461"
    sizemode="Normal" />
i tried changing normal to maximised; no effect. either i need also to change the numbers (to match a maximised window) or ff ignores this. i want to be able to open different sites in different windows, and not have to maximise them manually. ff never used to be broken, why break this? what possible security flaw was fixed by screwing up ff to never open maximised unless u hack it or delete certain config files?

  • Firefox does not close properly making reopening later impossible without rebooting computer.

I live in Texas and my sister lives in Georgia. We are both experiencing problems with closing Firefox. It appears to close properly but when I try to reopen later in the day, my computer tells me that it is still running in the back ground and cannot be reopened. I tried upgrading to the latest version but the problem persists. When I go into Task Manager, I can't find an entry for Firefox to close out.

Press '''CTRL+SHIFT+ESC''' to open Task Manager, go to the '''Processes '''menu, right click on '''firefox.exe''' and choose '''Kill Process'''.
When you finish a browsing session, go to '''File '''| '''Exit '''to close it if the problem persists.
Try disabling the McAfee Virtual Technician plugin via '''Tools '''| '''Add-ons''' | '''Plugins'''.

If the problem persists in spite of the above steps, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

  • Firefox 29 does not close properly

Since upgrading to Firefox 29, Firefox no longer closes properly. Error message says something like "process is running, close process or restart system". This began immediately after upgrading to Firefox 29. Running Windows 7 Professional (SP1). Firefox 28 worked fine. No changes other than to upgrade Firefox. Cannot keep restarting my system to use this browser. Will have to switch to an alternative if this bug isn't fixed. Have used Firefox from the beginning but this is a deal breaker. Hope you can fix it. No time for workarounds and inspecting plug-ins. The problem clearly lies with this version of Firefox.

hello, unfortunately this is currently a bug in the current firefox version when you have set your history to be cleared at firefox shutdown (under options > privacy) - that is investigated and in the process of getting fixed by mozilla's developers with a high priority.

  • Elements 10.0 does not close properly

New install of PSE 10.0. Istalled on an i7-920 with Win7 x64. When I exit out of the program, the process, Photoshop Elements 10.0.exe *32 remains running. It does not matter how I try to exit PSE, the Red X, File Close, File Exit, all options leave that process running in the task manager.
PSE will not re-start until I end the still running process in Task Manager.
I must say, that this problem along with PSE crashing periodically, does not leave a good taste.
Any idesa how to get PSE to Close?

    I have the same problem:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/943658?tstart=0
I tryied the direct link, the first time it was no change (but I hadn't done a restart of the computer, after a restart it stated that some files were missing when trying to start directly with the Editor.exe application.
I saw in my folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10 that I had to VLC files in that folder, is that the same in your folder HighDriveVideo? if that application could be in conflict with PSE?

  • Firefox 4.0.1 does not install properly. It keeps asking to reboot to finish. i can't uninstall it via Control Panel.

I had Mozilla Firefox 4.0 on Windows 7. I saved the bookmarks and uninstalled it. Downloaded 4.01 and did the typical standadrd install. It asked for a reboot to finish as expected. I rebotted and it did not finish installation. Then I tried to unistall it using control panel. So that removed it (or so it seemed). So i went to reinstall. Mozilla says reboot to finish install immediately. That of course does not work, can't uninstall as control panel does not see itand cant install. Anyone know how to completey get rid of this thing. No I cant delete it from the C:\Program files <x86> directory either. It's a hung mess.

You gone about it the wrong way I'm afraid. For future reference; to update version 4.0 to 4.0.1 and for future editions, go to '''Help '''| '''About Firefox''' and then click the '''Check For Updates''' button.
I think what you'll have to do now is follow instructions in this article to uninstall it: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_firefox
Once you've achieved that goal, go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0.1] and download a fresh installation file to the desktop using either IE8 or 9. Save the file to your desktop when you see the prompt and then reinstall it from there.

  • Satellite L300D-13S - CD/DVD drive does not close properly

    Hi,
I have the L300D-13S about one week.
Today and for a short while last Sunday the DVD drawer will not stay closed.
I have restarted a few times and tried putting discs in but it still ejects and doesn't read the discs.
I installed Norton 360 Version 2.0 the day I got it, I really don't know a lot about computers and I am hoping it's simple enough.
I have checked the control panel and checked all the settings and they all seem fine.
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks.

    Hi
In my opinion its a mechanical CD/DVD drive problem and you should contact the ASP in your country for a check.
I mean your warranty must be valid because this notebook does not seem to be old.
So ask the ASP and maybe the CD/DVD drive must be replaced.
    Bye

    Hi Pelle,
Why did you delete your profile? Also how? Did you use the profile manager or did you delete from the windows file structure?
It sounds like something during the profile delete has stopped Firefox from starting up. Please see the this article and follow the steps:

  • Firefox page starts but does not load properly, cannot access toolbars or open web pages

I recently installed the toolbar for MegaUpload. I had issues uploading a file with the program and uninstalled the toolbar. Since then, I cannot use my firefox. Firefox opens to a blank page displaying the menu bar only but I cannot use any of the menu options. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox twice. I have reset my Norton security as well. I'm using the Google chrome right now but want my Firefox back! Help!!

SAME PROBLEM HERE. I couldn't find others with this issue so this is a good surprise. I thought about finding a 9 version, looks like I'll be doing that. There is no setting I can change to fix this issue. No add-on to uninstall, I even tried reinstalling the whole app. I load the start screen, but upon going anywhere with the web, it simply doesn't load and remains blank with my URL in the awesome bar.

  • PSE 12 does not close properly

Hi, I just upgraded to PSE 12. When I run editor, after I exit the program, I cannot restart it again until I use windows task manager to end process of photoshopelementseditor.exe file. This seems to be a known problem. Any fixes out there?
    Windows 7 pro (64 bit)

I only copied the Import-Export folder.
The problem is still not completely solved. But, I now understand the plugins usage more clearly.
The plug-ins only apply to the Editor. They do not apply to the Organizer.
In the pse 11 Organizer, I could scan with twain software. I still can't do that in the pse 12 Organizer.
I now have access to the scanner, in a clumsy way, through the Editor. It is still missing in the Organizer.
It is much easier and better to have access to the scanner inside the Organizer. More options and easier to use.
In the Organizer you can specify in Options, scanner interface software, file type (tiff vs jpeg) and the destination folder. There was a short  cut key (ctrl-u) that opened the scanner interface.
None of thatt exists when scanning into the Editor.
It looks like the workflow is to open the scanner, scan ten pictures, get them in the Editor and then save them one by one as tiff or psg into a folder.
It is different. Maybe not as clumsy as it sounds once you get used to it.
I had never copied the twain plugin when I was using pse 11. I just checked and found that the twain scanner software was not available in the Editior in pse 11 until I copied the optonal Import-Export folder.
I had always used the scanner from inside the Organizer and did not realize that it was missing in the Editor.
