Firefox 6 seems to produce a corrupt prefs.js file as soon as it opens, which cannot then be updated.

I have tried deleting the prefs.js file and restarting firefox, but the file seems to be corrupt at the outset and will not allow saving changes in preferences.

Thanks for the reply. I never get the option to "Restore Previous History" from History. I don't even have the box checked that asks to delete the history when Firefox closes. I don't know what's wrong, no matter what, I always lose everything. I have the box marked "Show my windows and tabs from last time" for when I open Firefox, but it never shows that, just my homepage. Also, when I check my History, it only shows the pages that I opened since I started Firefox, nothing from before. Even if I were to open up 10 pages now, close Firefox, and open it, the history would only show the homepage that opened this time, not any of the 10 pages that I opened 5 minutes ago.

I've been having a problem with sending/receiving text messages in Yahoo Messenger and I think I've narrowed it to the prefs.js file in Firefox. I'm using Firefox 3.6.25 on Windows XP sp3. The Yahoo Messenger window would not open when the appropriate mobile phone link was clicked. I uninstalled/reinstalled flash without change. I cleared cache, etc., without change. I created a new Firefox profile and I was able to get the Yahoo Messenger window to open. When I copied the prefs.js file from the old profile to the new profile, I encountered the problem again. I opened the prefs.js file with wordpad and noticed that editing should occur in about:config in the currently running Firefox browser. I briefly compared the two about:config tabs from the working profile and the non-working profile. They were significantly different. How do I make a copy of one so that I can paste it into wordpad and make the editing of the other one easier? Where can I find information about the individual parameters and their settings?

Firefox 6 has crashed, and corrupted a script file in Applications Data. The result , everytime i try and start Firefox, it says its already running, but it isnt. I have tried rebooting system, removing firefox ,reinstalling and still the problem exists.

It would appear that the corrupted script files are sessionstore.js or prefs.js.

Corrupt pbclient44 Jar file...

Hey all,
I seem to have a corrupt pbclient44.jar file, where one of the classes which is in it can not be 'found.' Other classes are accessed just fine, so I'm guessing it may have been a download problem or something.
I really dont want to re-download the entire WebLogic Server software for just one JAR file. Is there a way to just get the pbclient44.jar file??

I'd like to silently install Firefox 4 using customized prefs, but it's seems different than the 3.6.x versions.
How does it work with the new "folder architecture" used in Firefox ?
* For 3.6.x, using the -ms switch install Firefox silently, and i integrated addons & prefs by :
- copying pref.js + localstore.rdf + mimeTypes.rdf + content-prefs.sqlite + bookmarks.html to "localized\defaults\profile".
- extracting all *.xpi addons into the extensions install folder "nonlocalized\extensions".
* For FF 4 the -ms still works, and i tried to copy my addons in "core\distribution\extensions\", but all of them do not install, and I don't see any "localized" or "profile" folder for the prefs..

How do I keep the autocomplete function switched off..evry restart of Firefox seems to put it on again...

I have switched the option in Tools to 'Nothing'..it reverts to 'History..etc' after a restart.
I have gone through the suggested about:config changes..this also seems to revert after a restart from 'false' to 'true'

Windows may be hiding the .js file extension. 
You can check the file type in the properties of a file via the right-click context menu.
Did you try to remove the prefs.js file(s)?
If you can't fix it in your current Firefox Profile Folder then you can try to reset Firefox or create a new profile yourself as a quick test.

Safari is not working. Many (not all) graphics not shown, won't play video, says Flash is missing, will not respond to login or query submissions. Firefox seems OK. Help?

This seemed to happen as I was working today. Pages are not fully loading (spinning wheel on tab never stops) and most graphics don't show. Videos are not playing and game sites say I need Adobe Flash. I tried downloading Flash, but that just didn't happen either. At the same time Firefox seems fine, including loading the same games, playing video, logging in and queries.
It seems like a bug, but ProtectMac Antivirus has screened several times today with no threats found. (Also says its software is up to date as of today.)
I don't want to remove Flash if its really installed and working.
Should I uninstall and reinstall Safari?

If you want to have a/v software installed on a Mac either ClamXav or Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Edition are far more compatible with Apple native applications such as Safari and both are free.
Then try troubleshooting Flash. The plugin you have installed now may be corrupted.
Uninstall then reinstall a new Flash plugin > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed plugin first.
Now relaunch Safari. From the Safari menu bar top of your screen click Safari > Empty Cache
Now try a video and see if pages load as they should.
And go to:   HD/Library/Internet-Plug-Ins
If you have ClickToFlash installed, that can prevent Flash content from loading.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info.
If the box next to: Open in 32 bit mode is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
And check to make sure there's enough free space on the startup disk.   Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop.
Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

WinXP Notepad messes up the line formatting of prefs.js, so I use Wordpad - but you need to save the edited file in a Text-Only format (Wordpad asks about that when you go to save the edited file). Make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
If Safari still crashes, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

When trying to generate pdf file from firefox 7.0.1 , getting corrupt content error, used to work with previous versions of firefox

We have done toleration testing on firefox version 5 thru 6 and haven't got an issue with our website generating pdf files for our users. One of our users upgraded to firefox version 7.0.1 and they tried to generate a pdf report, now a screen pops up with Corrupted Content Error The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because an error in the data transmission was detected. I recreated this issue on my pc yesterday by installing firefox 7.0.1. Any hints as to what I need to look at would help. Cannot provide the url because it is a secure website for law enforcement. You can turn off compatibility checking, but more and more of the Google Toolbar will not work. Google is no longer supporting the Google Toolbar so you should use the alternatives.
