Firefox 7.0.1 always defaults to manual proxy in a new session

Just updated to 7.0.1 and regardless of what I select or change in advanced/network settings, the browser always goes back to manual proxy, as the default, in a new session. I have tried every possible proxy setting combination and saved, but each time I open a new session, the default reverts back to manual, and wont open any web pages until I change the proxy settings for each page I visit! Damned annoying. How do I stop this?

  • After installing Firefox 4 Beta 9, using Manual Proxy Configuration fails to connect to the internet and also fails with corporate intranet. Has anything changed?

Initially, Firefox 4 Beta 8 is installed. Manual Proxy Configuration was used, and worked fine.
After installing Beta 9 using the built-in updater, connecting to internet and intranet fails instantly with Page Not Found error. Restarting Firefox does not fix the problem.
Clean install of Beta 9 also exhibits the same problems.

    I have this problem too...

  • Firefox 4.6 Beta cannot connect to the proxy server each time I load it.

In the advanced settings (Network) I have to manually set it to Auto Detect each time and and it works fine. However, each time I restart Firefox it automatically defaults to Manual Proxy Settings and does not work. It seems that Firefox does not save my change to Auto-Detect Proxy and each time defaults to Manual Proxy Settings when restarted.

Did you create a new profile for the 4.0 beta version?
Are you still using a Firefox 3.6.x version with that same profile?

  • My Firefox always changes Network settings to 'Use Manual Proxy' after every PC restart, even if I change the option to No Proxy/Auto detect proxy.

My Firefox 4 always changes the Network settings to '''Manual Proxy Configuration''' after every PC restart. I have to always go to connections and change this setting to '''No Proxy''' or '''Auto Detect Proxy Settings for this network'''.
I also tried to revert the values back to default values by using about:config and changing modified values back to default. But it still doesn't works out.
    Kindly help.
    Thank you.

I had this too, I tried running Firefox in safe mode (no add ons) - that didn't make any difference. I could save other preferences, just not the proxy setting. I'm 99.99% sure I didn't have a virus or other malware. This was only affecting Firefox, no other browser I has installed.
In the end I created a new profile - http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing%20profiles - that seems to have 'fixed' it for me - the new profile doesn't have the problem, but the old one still does.
    Windows 7, Firefox 4.01.

  • I have just changed to Firefox from IE. When i pull up my home page which is the BBC.co.uk I have always to reset my local region as it always defaults to London. I didn't have this problem with IE. Can you please supply a solution, thank you

I have just changed to Firefox from IE. When i pull up my home page which is the BBC.co.uk I have always to reset my local region as it always defaults to London. I didn't have this problem with IE. Can you please supply a solution.

I fixed it!!! Following advice from similar posts, I searched the hard drive for "sessionrestore.js" in my Firefox Profiles folder (you'll need to enable viewing of hidden files in Windows Explorer (Tools > Folder Options > View (then select Hidden files option) then Apply to all folders) to do this). I then shut down Firefox, deleted the file and restarted - my home page was correct and it didn't try to open my old session! Some other posts suggested deleting everything called "sessionrestore" in that folder, but I didn't need to.

  • Windows CS6 "save as" action always defaults to last save place instead of saving where action is intended to. Please help

    Hi all,
I am using CS6 64bit on a Windows 7 Enterprise machine at work. I have used Macs here for years and never had this problem but when I create an action that is designed to "save as" (because I must change the file name) a single file into a specific directory on the network Photoshop always defaults to saving into the last place I saved instead of saving into the place where the action tells it to save to. The action contains 2 saves and then a close and only the first save brings up the dialogue so we can change the name of the file. That dialogue box always contains the last save location instead of the desired location the action is intended to save to. The second save always goes to the correct place and the close works fine.
The only time this does not happen is when Photoshop is first launched. In that case when I click the action it always tries to save into the original folder on the network where I opened the file from.
I have already unchecked the box in preferences for "save as to original folder" and do not know what else to try.
Previously on Macs I have never experienced this issue at all. I have been opening files on my network and saving them to other network directories for years over many different versions of Photoshop on a Mac and not once have I had an issue. Is it a PC thing? Is there something else I can try? I need to deploy these PC's to employees and can not do so unless this action works as we process high volumes of images and do not have the time to navigate manually to each directory we must save in.

Welcome to the club! I hate that but live with it.
When I download from the camera, Photoshop Bridge generates a folder according to the date shot, say 20141212. The images then are 20141212_1 to 20141212_xxx; whatever the final count is from the download. But let's say I rename the image or perhaps have a Photomerge of several frames. Then the connection is lost and Photoshop reverts to the last folder before the current one. So one has to watch to steer that "Save As" to the one you want, in this case 20141212. However, after that occurs, subsequent Saves will go to folder, 20141212. (because it is now the last one)
The principle I follow is that if the folder with the images is new, I am careful with "Save As" if the file I am saving is not directly connected with that folder"s numbering system.

  • Firefox starts (initialize) with Manual Proxy (ever) and I need to change that to No Proxy, every time I run Firefox. What can I do??? I

Firefox starts with Options/Advanced/Network/ Settings like below:
    -Manual proxy configuration
    -HTTP Proxy ""127.0.0.1"
    - port "64202"
    - socks v5
    - No Proxy for: localhost, 127.0.0.1
So, I need to change Network Settings to "No proxy" and, manualy, refresh(reload) all the 20 tabs I keep oppened./
Moreover, some pages open without my wish (for example, adfunky)

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • How do I make Firefox default to home page when open new Tab?

When I open a new tab/window its blank. I have Firefox open to my home page Google, and I want the new tab/window to default open to that if I haven't chosen a web site to go to in the new Tab/window.
Is there a way to make Firefox default to the Google page when I open a new Tab/window and dont specify a web site to open to ?
I am using XP PRO x64 with firefox 4.0 and everything else works fine... my default home page is the Google search page.

    Install this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/newtaburl/
After install and re-starting Firefox, go to Add-ons > Extensions, click Options next to New TabURL, set the options and/or enter the URL you want when you open a new tab, click Save.

Does not relate to your question, but...
You have multiple old Java Console extensions that Java did not clean-up during updates. You need Java Console only if you do Java programming/development or debug Java applets on web pages. You can see them in Add-ons > Extensions, '''''but you can not remove them from there'''''. Removing them will not affect the functioning of Java on websites. You can '''''manually''''' remove them, '''''if you do not do Java development work''''' to avoid future, possible problems/conflicts:

  • When changing the default printer in windows vista why doesn't the default printer change in firefox (firefox was running when the default printer was changed)?

I am not sure whether or not this is a bug or a feature, but I was running firefox on my laptop. I then went to add a new printer and set it as a default printer. When I went back to firefox to print, it did not automatically choose that new default printer as the printer of choice. I then had to choose the new printer manually to print to. This is merely a convenience issue but thought I would bring it to the attention of Mozilla in case.

    Hello bradleesargent
as i can see the note in the kb article ([https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-print-websites#w_print-window-settings Print window settings]) ''The default printer is the Windows one. When a web page is printed with the selected printer, it becomes the new default printer.''
do you have your previous printer also, or you uninstall the previous printer and then install the new one and make it default ?
I think firefox must be closed when you set up a new printer. Do you have it open when set up the new printer ?
    thank you

  • Why my Firefox v6.02 browser always open *.csv (comma delimited) file in another tab rather than downloading a file? I do not have right click option to save this file.

My Firefox v6.02 browser always open *.csv (comma delimited) file in another tab rather than downloading a file? I do not have right click option to save this file. My OP is windows XP sp2.

    Hi mha007,
    Go to this site "http://www.nseindia.com/content/indices/ind_histvalues.htm"
Select any Index type and from dates select just one day or any number of days. Click "Get Details" button. This will open tabular data on loaded page (with link CSV file link at bottom).
When I click this link, it opens CSV file in new tab (in Firefox browser) and does not open download window (just as in case of other file formats like *.zip, *.rar or *.xls).
Right-click of link does not give "save as" or "save file" option.
Firefox is my preferred and default browser.
    ========
surprisingly, When I do same thing in IE6 browser, data-table page shows 2 options below table, i.e. (1) download file (2) open file.

  • If Firefox is set as the default browser, and any application attempts to open a new window, this fails and I get the error "Firefox is already running..."

Here is what I am running:
Microsoft Windows 7, Service Pack 1, Fully updated to 4/10/2012
Fresh Install of Firefox 11. No add-ons enabled as a result of troubleshooting.
I am a user with administrator rights
    UAS is disabled.
To begin, this has been going on Since Firefox 10 or so. A few months now.
I am able to open Firefox. My add-ons worked (ABP, Flashblock, ABP Element Hiding Helper, IETAB2, Downthemall, Greasemonkey, 4chan extension) had no problems. Firefox is set and has been set for the last two years as my default web browser.
However Since approximately Firefox 10 or so, maybe before that, If I have a Firefox session open, and any other application attempts to open a session in a new window, I get the Firefox is already running, but not responding error."
I attempted to follow troubleshooting advice already posted (look for parent.lock files left behind [none present], multiple sessionstore.js files [none present], create a new user profile, attempted to clear out the "read-only" permission in windows 7, however as soon as it is cleared, the read only permission returns.)
As a last resort, I deleted the Firefox folder, the %APPDATA%/Mozilla directory in its entirety, then utilized CCleaner to remove any and all references to Firefox in the windows registry, then did a full re-install, no extensions installed right now.
I checked preferences and have the option "open new windows in a new tab" checked off. The problem persists regardless if this option is checked on or off. This problem persists in or out of safe mode, even with the brand new install.
    Test Cases:
    All cases:
Firefox is selected as the default browser for windows 7
Case 1: Open a firefox session. Utilize any other program that attempts to open a link to their website in a new browser window or new browser session. Experience "Firefox is already running" error
Case 2: Open a firefox session. Right click on Firefox on the task bar. Select "open in new window". Experience "Firefox is already running" error
Case 3: Open a firefox session. Select the Firefox Menu > New tab > New Window. A new window will actually open.
This is the only method of opening a new window in the same browser session or profile that actually works on my system. Attempting to open a browser session from the task bar "open new window dialog" or opening a new window while a current window/session is running will not open firefox in a new window or a new tab in the current session. The "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" error will occur every time.

Cor-el's suggestion resolved my problem. Apparently the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable was set to 1 on my system variables. I never made it, and really have no idea how it got there, but deleting this variable and restarting firefox has resolved the issue. Thanks Cor-el!
    Marking case: Solved
Solution: Verify the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable is NOT set to 1. This can be achieved by simply deleting this variable.
