Firefox 7.0.1 crashes repeatedly in OS X Lion

Since I have upgraded to OS X Lion Firefox 7 crashes anytime my computer is idle for longer than 5 minutes. I have tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions and nothing works. Are there any additional steps I can take to fix the problem?

Please provide a crash id or stacktrace -> https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report
What have you tried so far?

• Why is Firefox 3.6.10 crashing repeatedly when I am using hotmail to try to send emails?

I am only having difficulty with hotmail when using Firefox 3.6.10. Opening hotmail is OK, and so is reading emails. The problem starts ONLY when I try to SEND a new email, or reply to an existing email. The email composition page within hotmail opens up, but then my hard drive begins to act erratic and spins non-stop. Then, a few seconds later, it crashes altogether. I restore the session, and all my windows open up normally, but another crash is inevitable because that 'send email' hotmail window is open. Presto... another immediate crash. So, obviously, I can restore a 2nd time, this time WITHOUT restoring the hotmail window, and everything seems to work fine. I have to open up a new tab for hotmail, and that appears to work fine for seeing what new is in my inbox, and even as far as reading emails. It seems to only crash when I try to SEND emails.
I had to go through about 20 different crashes before I could isolate the hotmail window as the culprit. They ALL have the same signature: coreclr.dll@0xbae82 . Of course, "Search Mozilla Support for Help" turns up absolutely nothing on the signature.
The Crash IDs are numerous. I've only listed a few of them, in the link to the right.

Hi
coreclr.dll is an MS Silverlight dll.
Try de-installing silverlight & re-install Firefox
I seemed to have an older version of silverlight already on my computer, but that wouldn't uninstall.
My solution that worked for me is to use the Windows install cleanup utility: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.
Select Silverlight from the list, and then download Silverlight again and reinstall.
And, if all else fails:
http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/uninstall.aspx.

• Firefox 3.6.x and Firefox 5 keeps on crashing on Mac OS X Lion.

I have recently upgraded to lion (about a week ago). Since then firefox 3.6.19 has crashed maybe 1-4 times. Today I decided to test firefox 5 but only after 1 minute and no tabs opened firefox 5 crashed. Firefox 3.6 crashed about 2 times today. How can I fix this???

Along with the crashing I also get the mac spinning pinwheel that means it is unresponsive. This happens constantly...

• Contacts crashes repeated after upgrade to Lion - 2 different computers

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro and a 2011 MacAir.  I upgraded both simultaneously (separate downloads via the App Store) and both have exactly the same problem with the Contacts app crashing immediately after it opens.  I can never open it long enough to use it at all.  I crashes w/i 1 second of opening.  Everything else about the upgrades seems to have gone smoothly and the systems are very stable otherwise.
Is anyone else having this?  Is there a fix?

More on this after seeing some others are having a similar issue:
- I don't use an Exchange server or iCloud
- I do sync my contacts with Plaxo, and have realized when Plaxo is closed, the Contacts app doesn't crash.  I had to redownload Plaxo after ML upgrade and it apparently is causing the crashing.
- Before the crash, I could see all my contacts in the app, unlike others who report they have no contacts.
PLAXO SYNC APP IS THE PROBLEM......contacting Plaxo now.

• Firefox 3.6.13 crashes on various pages AND makes unauthorized downloads

For the past week or so, Firefox 3.6.13 crashes repeatedly, on different pages, often while we are entering data or performing a transaction. We always submit crash reports, but we never hear from Firefox.
In addition, something in or on Firefox makes continuous unauthorized downloads. Nothing appears in our download files, in Internet Download Manager, or in Task Manager. The only new tabs we have opened lately are NYTimes and HughrsNet news pages.
Since HughesNet limits downloads except 2-6 AM EST, this is a serious problem. We have had to curtail Firefox until this is resolved.

I had the same problem, until I did some research. I uninstalled firefox 3.6.13, and reinstalled firefox 3.6.12. When I did some research, I found that the quicktime plugin had been blocklisted. I disabled the quicktime plugin, updated to firefox 3.6.13, and the problem was gone. My add-on window doesn't freeze up anymore either.

• Mozilla Firefox crashes repeatedly in ubuntu 12.04 desktop version now what to do to solve this problem?

Mozilla Firefox 20.0 crashes repeatedly
I had tried by disabling cookies, addones uninstall & reinstall firefox completely
after that problem still exists.
at anytime it crashes. & we have to restart Firefox.

* It could be helpful if there is a diagnostic program/add-on which control all
installed add-ons.
* It could even be helpful If I can type/write more as 1500 characters in a
message, because I have to tell my story (Mozilla problems) and I want to
place the output of the 'terminal' (Sessionstore) in the same message.
* It even shall be helpful if there is a list (like in the early days of the Windows-
browser), where I can find the description and/or the solution of the Firefox- errors. My terminal give me p.e. this output : (firefox:10353): Gtk-CRITICAL
**: IA__gtk_clipboard_set_with_data: assertion `targets != NULL' failed;
Firefox: 10353 says me nothing, so..... there are errors enough, but the
crashes don't come from the browser. I have taken all steps, my last is to
re-install FF24 about:blank, vdpau.... e.s.o
* If I place a message here I can only put a picture-file, not a text or Gedit-file.

• Firefox has started crashing repeatedly; I suspect Safe Eyes, the net filter I installed a few weeks before this started.

Firefox 3.6.6 Crash Report [@ ICF.dll@0x239b6 ] re repeated browser crashes. there's no pattern to the crashes, only clue is presence of safe eyes, which i usually run disable at work. recent add ons: Colt 2.4.7, firebug 1.4.5, java console 6.0.16
== This happened ==
A few times a week
== about a month ago, about a month after installing Safe Eyes

There's nothing Firefox can do (presently) about a buggy LSP filter such as the one that is crashing you, ICF.dll. Presumably this is the "Safe Eyes" you mentioned. This is a third-party DLL and does not ship with Firefox.
You can contact the vendor of this DLL or uninstall it.
Future versions of Firefox will hopefully disable these crashy LSPs. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=523410

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Alright, well what I recommend doing is a fresh install of Firefox.
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

• Firefox crashing repeatedly out of the blue, please help

Yesterday my FF started crashing repeatedly after cleaning my flash cache. It now is crashing on any site I visit, whether there is flash on there or not. My IE8 is also having to recover webpages but not as often as FF. I have well over 30 crashes since yesterday, I will list some of them here:
XPCJSStackFrame::ToString(char**)
nsCycleCollector::MarkRoots(GCGraphBuilder&)
JSCompiler::~JSCompiler()
js_GetGCThingTraceKind
TraceRecorder::import(TreeInfo*, nanojit::LIns*, unsigned int, unsigned int, unsigned int, JSTraceType_*)
These are just some of the signatures reported for my crashes, hopefully someone can help soon. I have never had a problem with FF until yesterday, hopefully this is an easy fix, and I am unsure why my IE8 is also crashing, but not as bad as FF.

• Why, after a Microsoft update (about removing malicious software) does Fire fox crash repeatedly.

I ran this update from Microsoft, and Immediately, Firefox crashed, repeatedly,( 5-6x) each time sending a crash report. I did the "reset Firefox" option, but this did nothing. I don't know anything about safemode, so I didn't try that.
I thought it a good idea to get the latest version of Firefox, so I googled it, and the first two links I tried, from your page, were stopped first by something in the browser, (I had opened Safari to get on the internet, even IE wouldn't open) then by my Vipre anti Virus. The third link worked, but today it is happening again, primarily when I tried to open another tab to YouTube, to share a link on Facebook. Each subsequent attempt crashed as long as the tab to YouTube was there. It was only after I stopped that tab from being recovered, did I get Firefox back up and running.
Since there was an issue with both IE and my anti Virus, I am wondering if the real root of this problem is the MS update, but I do not know. I do know everything was fine before this update.

Alright, I did all that. I created a new profile : default, and stored it in "Profiles" and clicked "start Firefox". It opened to a new Firefox, one where FB is NOT my home page, where I had to log in to FB. I see nothing that I can share with you.
Now what?

• Firefox 23 Beta has crashed 5 times in the last hour since updating, twice with a BSOD failure of the video driver. I can't figure out another way to post this.

FF was running fast and stable until the Beta update tonight. Afterward it crashed repeatedly, sometimes with a total system lockup, other times with an unresponsive system, occasionally with a Video Driver failure leading to a BSOD.
I had to DL 22 release and roll back. I'm now on the release channel, not the beta channel.
System config: Dell Latitude 6410, Win 7 x64, 128 GB SSD, 4GB RAM, Intel video hardware. Everything is up to date.
Trying to get this out before it crashes again then switching to 22.
Java plugin is usually disabled.
Toolbars are ABP, download status bar and Disconnect.

If you are still getting blue screen crashes, make sure you've disabled Firefox's use of hardware graphics acceleration. With that feature off, it would be rare that Firefox would touch any privileged parts of Windows.
You might test in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)
Any difference?
Oddly, that last crash report shows the Flash plugin still loading, even though you disabled it.
This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with the Flash player. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
(1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.
(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
(A) As described above... In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
(B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
(3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista/7/8)
See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

• Custom plugin crashes repeatedly when closing tabs

Hello,
Our company has a custom plugin which we install onto firefox in order to connect to its API.
lately a customer complained that our plugin is crashing repeatedly. all i have to go on is this crash report for now:
https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/ff38c405-4289-4b72-a82d-fd67a2141208#rawdump
can anyone help with this?

The first crash reported seems to be crashing in visual studio. If you are using this to create a website, try a new profile to see it has to do with the interaction with your plugins. Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles though if they are needed, this might not work. Disable the plugin [plugin PageHook Version:6.0.0.0 Filename:nppagehook.dll ] as this was reported as the culprit of the crash.
A bug has just been filed for this the second crash and will need further investigation. However it does look like it is crashing in the plugin operation. It is it possible, can you please try to disable you plugins to see if it crashes again.
Since this also happens when closing tabs and the first crash is hanging please see these steps to prevent hangs: Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix
